Thanks Joshua, I have been stuck between a rock and a hard place these past few days. After a crazy lot of research this review is my final piece of information. I am new getting into the hobby with a friend who has the older Taranis X9D Plus Transmitter, and the desicion of buying the right transmitter has been tough for me personally. But your review on the Jumper T16 made it alot easier. My friend and I value your opinion and knowledge in this field very highly. What are your thoughts on the new arrival of the Jumper T18? I am finalizing my decision to buy this Transmitter.
Got mine at heli nation as a Birthday present to myself, now to get my spektrum planes working well with it too, binding is easy but channel output programming is taking some time. Keep up the videos on this radio as you set it up, I would love tips and tricks, maybe a better battery life technique as well. 👍
Same. I recently switched to Crossfire and I am glad I did. I didn't really "need" Crossfire per se, but I simply didn't want to support FrSky every again. For now I am sticking with my 9XD, but once it fails, I will not repair it.
I got mine from aliexpress, the name of the store is "JumperTechnology Store", they sell PRO/Plus versions already. Kinda wish I would have waited for the PRO with internal module, but I don't do crossfire, so not a big deal (:
I have had a terrible experience trying to get a Jumper T16. I bought one that came in with a faulty card reader that corrupt the sd cards. The replacement for that radio had a faulty scroll wheel. Every 3rd or 4th rotation it would basically hit enter making it impossible to do anything with. The 3rd one now has a faulty enter button under the scroll wheel. Both that button and the return button seem to be mapped to the return key and I can not move forward in any menu as I don't have an enter button. I am giving this one last chance. Am I the only one having trouble with QC?
Thanks for fighting against this proprietary way of doing things. I love the fact that more & more Open Source Software is finding it's way to the RC Hobby! My Computer OS is Open Source and all the Applications I use are Open Source. When it's time to replace my existing Transmitter I had already decided that a Jumper TX was the way to go. See you in the Air!
My first radio the T12, originally upon purchase didn't bind with most of my quads. Before years end Bugs 3, JXD 506G, Bayang X16 and the AirHogs USS Enterprise. Plays Tetris and runs the LUA scripts that even my Jumper T16 doesn't. I have JST, Jumper 4 in 1 and R9M modules which lets me switch between the smaller T12 and T16 without re binding. Point being there is a lot of effort going on to support this radio. Jumper radios have the most capability, diversity and are very exciting to own. Also thx to the Deviation team too.
Joshua, you should try to partner with Jumper and release the "JB T16", it would be completely innovative as I have never seen a radio with a pilots name on it (there are a lot quad parts though, that's common now). People are looking for new radios and maybe they don't want to support Frsky because of the polemic happening right now or they don't want to have to jump the hoops to get CRSF or get a module to get D8, or they are looking for something reliable that doesn't failsafe like Spektrum or they want to support the cool guys. You could also put a sweet decal on it and have your signature, plus you are the knowitall tech guy, and having a signature radio would drive people crazy.
I really do like that idea. Premium case design, internal multiprotocol & hall effect gimbals, external charging port (even if it's just a goggle barrel adapter pass-through), maybe have them add a small external switch to turn off the screen when not in use, and that's a product I'd throw $200 at in a heartbeat. That radio, plus your multimedia documentation on how to configure it (for ANY receiver, plus CRSF add-on) would be the standard-bearer.
OK great radio, but I fly fixed wing aircraft - what kind of range do the various receivers have with this radio? No one is talking about receiver range....
Can anyone tell me the difference between the pro and plus versions? I see them both for the same price and they have very similar product listings. Is there a difference?
I bought a Jumper t16 about 2 moths ago and it was working fine. one evening I was walking by the transmitter and heard a weird noise. I picked it up and it was making a whining noise so I unplugged the battery and plugged it back in, and it stared making the noise again so I turned it on and it seemed fine, until I shut it off. I goes in to emergency mode every time I shut it off. I have to keep the battery unplugged when not in use. also the sh switch turned in to a power off button without me doing anything. It came out of nowhere. It was working just fine, then BAM the whining and emergency mode.
I’m using a lot of DJI FPV setups now seeing its HD and I’m also using the DJI radio...wondering if I should stick to the DJI radio or use the Jumper....what the upside to using the Jumper or downside to using the DJI radio ?
So I started in this hobby earlier this year. I took a plunge and forked out to buy an X9D plus se after watching reviews and wanted a future proof radio not knowing what was coming with access firmware and the refresh line since I was new. Not only is my new radio now technically an old model but it also means the whole reason I bought it for future proofing is now questionable. So I did it. I bought a Jumper T16 pro a few moments ago and will be selling the X9D to fund a crossfire module and receivers for my quads. @#$% you Frsky.
I don't understand... If you intend to use a crossfire system of Rx/Tx and have no interest in the ACCESS series of Rx, what's wrong with the X9D? Sure, now you have a colour screen, but besides that, couldn't you have spent the 160$ you spent on the T16 on a Crossfire system?
It's awesome! I ditched my DX9, a supposedly better built radio, but the old school walled garden approach of Spektrum was driving me mad. I'm fairly sure you'll like the T16 a lot!
@@jacquesmaries2324 to be fair, T16 supports a lot more stuff for crossfire, such as Lua script telemetry screens that look way better on the jumper color screen, and for less $¥£.
@@jacquesmaries2324 Well I don't really want to support Frsky. I was just happy using xm+ on my quads till access rolled up now I'm not so sure I want to build my fleet with frsky receivers in them. I wasn't expecting to invest in crossfire because I don't really need it but if frsky want to close doors I'll just have to jump out
@@khylvans8459 I am not married to Frsky, and may get a Jumper when my x9d dies, but not until they have a proven track record. I don't mind loosing a quad to a defective radio, but I also fly big gas planes, and I won't risk those! So I'll let you guys be the guinea pigs and will wait until more data is available :) . Regarding "closing the door" not sure what you mean : that ACCESS is not open source? Well, neither is Crossfire, or KISS or FlightOne.
I am just getting started and I appreciate everything JB does here. I have learned so much. Sadly, Grayson Hobby is back ordered and I need a radio now! I am coming from RC cars/trucks. I am learning to do all the correct steps and I believe a quality radio is the best starting point.
Well... It's good enough for me! 😊 I can make a 2 cell charger for 18650s with 2 TP4056, no problems. (Actually, I think I'm going to!) To be honest, I have my X9D Plus SE and I'm pretty happy with it and I'm not going to change. But I need to buy a second radio for my father soon enough. And I totally agree, Joshua, I don't feel well buying a FrSky radio right now. So I guess I'm going to choose the T16. 😊 Oh, and FANTASTIC news about OpenTX! 😃
hi Joshua let me tell you that I learned to fly my drocon bugs 3 thanks to your tutorials but my drocon bugs 3 came with problems the transmitter only have signal till 30 meters if I fly beyond that distance the signal just loss and the bugs 3 fell down I would like to ask you if the jumper transmitter can bind the bugs 3 without problems and how to. thanks again from venezuela
hey , i have a question , i have the jumper t16 and i want to use it with frsky xm+ , question is can i use the jumper radio to flash the xm+ firmware knowing that i don't have an frsky radio , i tried the regular way it doesn't seem to work
Some people love to fly in different type of environments with probably require different type of receivers-transmitter, that's why i love your statement that this hobby is about openness.. good job Joshua
Just received my Jumper T16 Pro through Ali Express which was the model with the Hall Gimbals. Arrived here in NZ within a week which was very good but when I opened the box I noticed that the writing on the front was Red and not Silver. The module was installed internally as the Pro versions are but the Gimbals didn't feel right. So on inspection and confirmed by the Jumper Sales the Gimbals are not Hall Gimbals but just the standard gimbals. Kind of disappointed since I was very much looking forward to also ditching FrSky. Right now waiting and waiting for something to be done about this by TrustWorthy INT'L Holding Group the company that supplied the radio through AliExpress. Also, have one of the sliders not working well working but only travelling halfway. Also anyone know how to get the RSSI from a D8R-II Plus showing on the telemetry on the T16?
Hi, I recently purchased a Jumper T16 Pro. It came with firmware vers 2.3.4. My scroll wheel will only scroll up and will not scroll down. If you have any idea how to fix this issue please let me know. Thanks.
@@JoshuaBardwell thanks for quick reply I will try that 1st.. Also I read a post that firmware vs 2.3.4 might be responsible not sure but could it possibly be the culprit
XT-Xinte also carries the T16 Plus. Right now you can get it for $133 shipped (gotta add it to cart for price to change) I just bought one, should show up next week.
I love the X10S but I love the TBS Crossfire more. Too bad I can't use both together. I modified my old Spektrum DX9 for crossfire and use the X10S for FRSKY. Funny how Frsky crippled their flagship and shipped a royal piece of %$#@ 900Mhz R9 transmitter for free with it. Bought 2 R9 slim receivers and crashed several times before I realized it wasn't the FC but the Frsky. Using the crossfire on the same FC and flawless over 100 flights.
Hlo sir i am from Nepal i bought jumpert16 pro but the proble with Frsky x8r is its range is just too low its just 300 to 400 metres i am just confused what to do
out of all the videos about how to set up the t16 none of them start where everyone starts when they FIRST TURN THE FREAKING THING ON. not yelling lol "expressing" so after being stuck on the opening screen that says "failsafe not set" pressing and holding every button individually nothing happened... plugged it in to my pc and still nothing pops up. I'm lost I'm frustrated I'm done lol
Failsafe not set means you need to go to Model Setup, just below where you bind, and set the failsafe to No Pulses. I show this in my video, "t16 bind and set up new model".
Jumper is raising fast. I've got my T12 plus (basically due to backpack / form factor reasons) less than one year ago, I've struggled a bit to make my R9M module compatible but what I have now is a cheap, well done and reliable TX system. I'm absolutely satisfied about this brand.
While looking if the 2019 x9d would carry on excluding crossfire, i saw UAVFutures' video on the T16 Pro, and he said it was good, new king, but didn't mention anything about the issues w/ FCC , openTX , which really should be the ONLY topics in a T16 update video !? Hearing the real issues seem to be worked out is such a relief, Thank you JB ! Looks like i might be getting my first real radio soon !
That is a bold move Joshua! I think you are soo right with the open sourceness etc. I am with you. Thanx for solving 2 out of 3... I am considering this as my next radio!
Got my T16 this week after my trusty X9D died. T16 is nice so far - but I learnt the hard way about copying over models using the OpenTX Companion - when you copy them make sure you edit each model to switch the internal and external module to "OFF" before you write them to the radio !!! Else the radio freaks and no models are written and emergency mode entered. Do the edit and write them - then once on the radio just go in and switch internal or external module on again for each model - remember to do this every time you want to use companion to edit the models ! Hopefully it will soon be ok to use companion in the normal way when the T16 is supported by OpenTX.
Joshua! I am a nurse working in a NYC area hospital. To decompress from all of this Corona stress, I watch your videos. QUESTION... how to bind an Eachine E013 to the new JumperT16Pro?
I still use a Taranis X9D, the jumper T16 looks good, but what is the screen like in bright sunlight, colour screens on radios don’t make much sense to me.
I got a Jumper T16 and lost a quad 50 feet away do to (at the time) unknown failsafe issue. Still I took the T16 apart and found shoddy soldier connections. I also dont like the small battery bay only fitting small 2 cell lipos that drain way to fast. I went back to my old Taranis
Joshua, I was thinking about something... Do you think it's possible to fit a 2s BMS (that is a thin board) and a barrel plug? If so you could charge the batteries inside easily. All you would need is a 8.4v power supply. If and when I get a T16 I'm going to try it out! 😊
It was working great for me. Stopped using it for roughly a month when I took a break from FPV. Came back, and the goddam "Enter" button on the scroll wheel now only acts as a "Return" button and none of the other three buttons work. Apparently, I have to reseat the ribbon cables, but that's a serious pain in the ass.
Everywhere you can read how good the T16 is, so I sold my Spektrum DX9 and Futaba T14SG to replace with one radio... Forgot that I bought a Beta85X HD BNF Futaba in Aug 2019. Will the T16 Pro work with a BNF Futaba drone?
As far as I can see OpenTX 2.3.1 (released yesterday) does NOT yet contain Jumper T16 support. It seems though that this support was merged into the branch 2.3 on GitHub about 11 days ago. I really hope that they publish an official version containing support for the T16 soon.
I've watched a few of your videos, but this one made me realize I need to subscribe. What a cool radio, maybe FrSky should take tips instead of hating.
Thank you Joshua , I was thinking about the freesky radio, now I know I am not going to go after it! I will try the Jumper t16, thank you sir, as always I learned some thing watching your vid's! :) once Again Thank you !
I'm really glad I got T16+ when it was released, it was much more than worth the price even with those few cons and now literally all of them are resolved. I was disappointed with lack of internal module and almost didn't buy it, but the amount of people buying the it is probably what let them finally fulfil their plans. BTW UnmannedTechShop sells it (as well as the new internal board) in UK and FPV24 sells it in Germany if you're from EU. They both still manage to sell FrSky products somehow.
I really like my JumperT16. It works Great for my Bayang tiny whoops and my EMAX Tinyhawk Freestyle with FrSky compatible receiver. For me it works fine just the way it is. When I get to long range, Crossfire will be my choice and I don't mind changing the module (for now). In the future I will likely upgrade the gimbals and maybe even put in the internal module kit. I am also glad to hear that the Open Source crew has realized that, by design, open source should run on ANY compatible radio. Thanks Joshua.
Hello my friends, Just got my T16, and I started with updating the firmware to T16-2.3.0. But got a SD warning at startup. After updating the SD card with T16-SD2.3V0020, I still get the SD warning, expecting just that SD card version. I tried to go back to SD card version T16-SD2.2V0018 and flash the firmware with T16-2.2.3, but also now I get a SD card warning at startup! So no matter what I do, I get a SD card warning at startup, expecting SD card version witch is already there!? I have checked the SD card for hidden files, I also format the SD card before installing the folders. Can not find a text file in the SD folders either, telling me what version of SD content that is on the card. What am i doing wrong here?
@@JoshuaBardwell Hello JB! Love your videos on YT, been very helpful to me as I am a beginner in this hobby and a grandpa, not so good with computers... ;-) The problem is solved as I got an e-mail from Jumper!! I must say their service is good! They told me to open the hidden files in the SD version downloaded. A text file containing the version number. And make shure that this text file was copied over to the SD card. And ka-ching...now I can sleep tonight! Keep up your good work my friend!
I bought my T16:Hall from rclife.co.uk it's an excellent radio. What makes this a no brainer is the unmatched price, colour screen, included multi mode module, internal and external software selectable module bays, build quality, hall effect gimbals and now open tx support! Even the battery choices is not an issue because 18650s and their chargers are commonly used for vaping, so they can be purchased at any vaping store. Any 2s battery that fits can also be used. You could go for an x9d and have a mono very low res screen but pay a lot more for a less flexible radio.
It would appear that Frsky bullied Get FPV out of selling the T16. This is where I bought mine but I don't see them listed anymore. So who do I go to now if I need warranty repairs?
So this t16 have 3 version then ? So v1 is the basic gimbal and, v2 the hall is have hall sensor and, v3 the pro hall have built in TBS CRSF support and can use jp4in1 and crsf at same time ?
Well that's you blacklisted by frsky 😂😂. Strange how you have made this video now as I have been thinking of moving over to jumper for the past couple of weeks. You just reassured me it's a good move. Thank you.
I literally was only waiting to find out why it wasn't JBs daily radio. He said it would be if... Then, if happened. So, I wondered what the hold up was. I'm in.
Hi Josh, I have a very important question Ever since I got my Jumper T16 yesterday , I really can't tighten the throttle down to a significant tightness , it still seems to be too loose for me even with the screw fully tightened down for the notchless throttle bar. Any help or ideas to somehow make them tighter without moving to the notched bar of the throttle gimbal?
Hi i want to tu for your vids on the jumper t16 i have a ? I have tamiya semi truck and i need a new radio that will work do u know if the jumper t16 will work for Serfice use
kinda brave to go full jumper publicly, i hope theres no repercussions and you still get to support everybody trying to pfaff their way through frsky nd opentx etc.
What the T16 is missing for me is a headphone jack. This is great to have when flying at an event where there's lots of noise around you. Hearing your speaker is not easy and I also wouldn't want to hear other people's battery level all the time too. Other than that, a great radio. With the headphone jack built in from the factory I guess I would buy the T16 as well.
Ok I’m almost over the line on moving to a t16 from my old aurora9. The sticking point is if it will bind with my hitec optima receivers. I’ve done some searches and asked a retailer and am getting conflicting info. So as you actually use the radio and have experience with it,probably not with hitec though, you may be able to shed some informed light on the situation.
I know I'm late to this video...was looking at the T16 and it lead me here... What was said in the video makes a lot of sense. If what was said is true, I am surprised how much power FrSky has in the market...and I would be less inclined to buy FrSky in the future. The jumper T16 seems like what a radio offering SHOULD be...having options. Making the hobby less about getting roped into a proprietary eco system and more about buying cool models to fly.
Nice! I bought a T16 Hall when it first came available, but haven't used waiting for clean OpenTX/Companion support. (I have plenty of other OTX radios to use in the meantime)

The receiver range with FrSky receivers is similar to my X9D internal module. I haven't range-tested FlySky or Spektrum.
I received my t16 this week and am changing over.
Can anyone tell me the difference between the pro and plus versions? I see them both for the same price and they have very similar product listings. Is there a difference?
pro has the internal TX which leaves the outer JR bay open for another TX. Both have HALL gimbals
Check all the ribbon cables are seated properly
Awesome review! Really like the path Jumper is taking!
I’m using a lot of DJI FPV setups now seeing its HD and I’m also using the DJI radio...wondering if I should stick to the DJI radio or use the Jumper....what the upside to using the Jumper or downside to using the DJI radio ?
Is that radio legal in the eu/germany?
Bc I ve read that it does not have a CE label... which is important to run amy electrical device in GER
Mini GS Reiter danke dir! Woher kommst du, vllt kann man sich mal treffen und zam fliegen?
Mini GS Reiter wie cool... ich bin jedoch etwas weiter weg... coburg/nürnberg... ich will auch basteln... hab nur kein geld für:(
So I started in this hobby earlier this year.
I can make a 2 cell charger for 18650s with 2 TP4056, no problems. (Actually, I think I'm going to!)
To be honest, I have my X9D Plus SE and I'm pretty happy with it and I'm not going to change. But I need to buy a second radio for my father soon enough. And I totally agree, Joshua, I don't feel well buying a FrSky radio right now. So I guess I'm going to choose the T16. 😊
Oh, and FANTASTIC news about OpenTX! 😃
hi Joshua let me tell you that I learned to fly my drocon bugs 3 thanks to your tutorials but my drocon bugs 3 came with problems the transmitter only have signal till 30 meters if I fly beyond that distance the signal just loss and the bugs 3 fell down I would like to ask you if the jumper transmitter can bind the bugs 3 without problems and how to. thanks again from venezuela
Just ordered one! Thanks for the review!
My concern is frysky can force users to use access by only supporting access for their new receivers.
Am getting a throttle not idle error even after updating to Opentx 2.3.4 and doing re calibration.
No doubt! My next radio is Jumper T16
hey , i have a question , i have the jumper t16 and i want to use it with frsky xm+ , question is can i use the jumper radio to flash the xm+ firmware knowing that i don't have an frsky radio , i tried the regular way it doesn't seem to work
Some people love to fly in different type of environments with probably require different type of receivers-transmitter, that's why i love your statement that this hobby is about openness.. good job Joshua
cancelled my x9d+2019 order in banggood and ordered jumper t16 from aliexpress just now, Joshua you are a true messiah to us 👌🏻
Thinking about getting one of these. Does it support FrSky ACCESS?
No. Only FrSky radios can support ACCESS. That's kind of the whole point of ACCESS.
Lol. Thanks. I’m new so I’m still figuring all this out. Your channel is awesome for learning and I appreciate the content.
Just been informed that the dealer is sending me s new set of Hall Gimbals and a slider. Faith being restored.
Joshua Bardwell could you show a spectrum bandwith analysis of the T16's signal. many thanks
I haven't got a spectrum analyzer.
@@JoshuaBardwell I didn't know that, I'll shut up haha thanks
I’ve had this controller for 3 months now. Awesome josh. I’m hooked to it. Thanks for this video josh
Hi, I recently purchased a Jumper T16 Pro. It came with firmware vers 2.3.4. My scroll wheel will only scroll up and will not scroll down. If you have any idea how to fix this issue please let me know. Thanks.
Open the radio and re-seat the ribbon cable going to the scroll wheel. Or ask the vendor you purchased it from to warranty it.
@@JoshuaBardwell thanks for quick reply I will try that 1st.. Also I read a post that firmware vs 2.3.4 might be responsible not sure but could it possibly be the culprit
XT-Xinte also carries the T16 Plus. Right now you can get it for $133 shipped (gotta add it to cart for price to change)
I just bought one, should show up next week.
It looks as though they only have mode 1 t16 plus?
How do I change the language text on my jumper t16 right now everything looks to be in Spanish
I still love my X10S....the one you convinced me to buy when you made that one your main squeeze.
You can modify the X10S to work with Crossfire. The inverter mod works
Hlo sir i am from Nepal i bought jumpert16 pro but the proble with Frsky x8r is its range is just too low its just 300 to 400 metres i am just confused what to do
Make sure to Frequency Fine-Tune.
www.graysonhobbyshop.com/jumper-t16-pro-frequency-receiver-tuning/
out of all the videos about how to set up the t16 none of them start where everyone starts when they FIRST TURN THE FREAKING THING ON. not yelling lol "expressing" so after being stuck on the opening screen that says "failsafe not set" pressing and holding every button individually nothing happened... plugged it in to my pc and still nothing pops up.
I have been selling these the last few months and I have not used the Taranis since. Great radio.
I still use a Taranis X9D, the jumper T16 looks good, but what is the screen like in bright sunlight, colour screens on radios don’t make much sense to me.
Yes sir I'm going to get my T16 definitely thank u for the video JB.
Sent back a X9 Lite and X9d plus and got a T16. Binds instantly to anything!
Just ordered one. Just bought a dx6e 6 months ago. Got into drones shortly after. Hope I like it. Been a Spektrum guy since they came out.
T16 does not support Futaba protocol sorry.
@@JoshuaBardwell So FHSS is not the same for Futaba and Jumper? :(
As far as I can see OpenTX 2.3.1 (released yesterday) does NOT yet contain Jumper T16 support. It seems though that this support was merged into the branch 2.3 on GitHub about 11 days ago.
I really hope that they publish an official version containing support for the T16 soon.
Bardwell what about the jumper t18 please make a video
I've watched a few of your videos, but this one made me realize I need to subscribe. What a cool radio, maybe FrSky should take tips instead of hating.
Thank you Joshua , I was thinking about the freesky radio, now I know I am not going to go after it! I will try the Jumper t16, thank you sir, as always I learned some thing watching your vid's! :) once Again Thank you !
Ordered after watching this my t16 , lokking for a good rc that is also not too expensive. Thumbs up👍👍
I'm really glad I got T16+ when it was released, it was much more than worth the price even with those few cons and now literally all of them are resolved.
Hello my friends,
Just got my T16, and I started with updating the firmware to T16-2.3.0.
What version is the SD card warning asking for? That is what needs to be installed on the card. Empty the card and copy the new contents.
@@JoshuaBardwell Hello JB! Love your videos on YT, been very helpful to me as I am a beginner in this hobby and a grandpa, not so good with computers... ;-)
The problem is solved as I got an e-mail from Jumper!! I must say their service is good! They told me to open the hidden files in the SD version downloaded. A text file containing the version number. And make shure that this text file was copied over to the SD card. And ka-ching...now I can sleep tonight! Keep up your good work my friend!
I have no idea why that file would be marked as hidden! Glad you got it figured out :-)
@joshuabradwell...do you think future models will come with module inside already?
You would need to contact Jumper directly.
Will it work with the Futaba receivers that don't have telemetry gear, IE 617 receivers ?.
I'm in.
There was an internal charging mod kit for the Q X7. Would it not work on this radio? Just a thought.
Where do I get the internal module ??
Hi Josh, I have a very important question
Ever since I got my Jumper T16 yesterday , I really can't tighten the throttle down to a significant tightness , it still seems to be too loose for me even with the screw fully tightened down for the notchless throttle bar.
You jumped ship?
There’s a guy on RCGroups that is selling a charger kit for the T16 including genuine LG 18650’s. For uUS sales there’s also DefienceRC
Nice! I bought a T16 Hall when it first came available, but haven't used waiting for clean OpenTX/Companion support. (I have plenty of other OTX radios to use in the meantime)
Aaaaaaand you convinced me to go for a T161, nice review and i like your open source philosophy.
Can we use any transmitter to a racing drone plz tell
Im about to bite the bullet but I think the heli nation is the only one that have the upgraded one, the other one are the old version.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
