Is 250 mW ELRS enough for you, or do you need more? The Zorro's ELRS radio has maximum 250 mW output power. Jumper has announced they are going to release a version of the T-Pro with 1 watt ERLS inside! My opinion is 250 mW is more than enough for most people, but obviously more is better especially if you're using EP2 receviers with ceramic antennas.
Plenty for me, I’m not a fly miles out kind of guy though. I’m either flying around my house or in a couple acre park. Biggest thing for me is overall feeling/responsiveness. That would be the deciding factor for me to switch over to ELRS from Crossfire…
@@RCRitterFPV Ceramic antenna has roughly half the range of the UFL antenna. I say "roughly" because it depends heavily on how it's mounted in the frame.
I went with T-Pro 1w when it popped up at RDQ the other day. I hated removing and installing two modules on my TX16S so now I can just leave crossfire installed all the time and have The TPro as dedicated ELRS radio . I hope I don't end up regretting the T-Pro too badly because the Zorro looks really nice. Time will tell. Thanks for all the great content on these RCs.

i get my hands into drone every other year. its not by accident that i come back to Bardwell's channel. dude is honest, no agenda, and does a helluva good job. i just got the DJI FPV drone. now that i have some goggles, i am looking into building a drone using the DJI O3 system, but need a radio. i like both of these, leaning towards the T-PRo thanks Josh

I agree with this. There are a greater number of different external ELRS modules currently available, and there will be more to come. Locking yourself in to an internal ELRS module doesn't make sense, especially considering you can't put a different antenna on it. An external module gives you much more freedom and configurability. Yes, I understand that 250mw is all you might need, but what if you "want" something more powerful in the future? You'll end up buying an external ELRS module anyway. So if giving yourself the widest range of options is important to you, then yes the 4-in-1 version is the most sensible option. That way you can put anything you want on the back of the radio. If however you already have a bunch of aircraft, with a specific flavour of control receiver installed, then pick whatever version has the internal module that works with those receivers. If none of the internal module options works with your current gear (in my case Crossfire) then the best solution is to buy the cheapest CC2500 version, and get a crossfire (or whatever control link you have, tracer/ghost etc) module for the back.
100% agreed! Not only there are many B&F whoops that don't need the crazy range, but also there more to RC than drones only and a dual system will allow to use the same radio for fixed wings as well.
That's exactly why I just said screw it & went all in on a TX16S Max. More options makes it easier to fly multiple protocols and ELRS combo packs aren't crazy spendy.
The Zorro with 4-in-1 module has me seriously reconsidering if I need a full-size radio like an x9d+ for TX16S. I fly DIY foamboard fixed wings, RTF/BNF parkfliers, tiny whoops, 2" quad, 5" quad.... it would save a lot of room in the backpack!!!

20:30 SOoooo true!!! I got in the hobby with R-XSR receivers and OMG what a learning curve it was, finding compatible RX and TX firmwares to be able to establish connection! Converting to ExpressLRS, yes, you have many options to choose from in the configurator but it works even with the defaults and you only need to set your "binding frase" and you are good to go!
I really love your videos... and I think you shoud not taake the little pauses from the videos when you edit them... I think the pauses are important for many reasons, such as give people a little time to think about what you've just said. Thank you very much for your work... 😘

My question is how many " Reveiwers " knew the Zorro was just around the corner " when they were praising the T-Pro ? ....For someone new , THIS has helped me distinquish between the TEACHERS and the sellers !!!
We all knew the Zorro was coming. You can't hold a review of a new product for a month or more on the potential that a later product might be better, especially these days when a promised product might be delayed by months.
I have little interest in buying either of these controllers, but I just enjoy watching you review products. It's nice to see you bring up little problems and I feel there is plenty of sincerity and honesty in each review. Keep it up , keep evolving...err but not too much ;o)
I'm still using my Frsky Taranis X9 Plus ACCST and XM Plus RX's. Not flashing in long time. P.S. The Express LRS in the Zorro is not the 1 watt version. I think it's the 250mw. You should get the Zorro 4 in 1 and add a Express LRS 1 watt module. This gives you option down the road.

The 4-in-1 seems like the best choice to me. But I'm going in knowing, I'm going to be buying a module for ELRS. Having that 4 in 1 can just be so versatile with whoops. Just saying you might want to try RedPine. And 250 is probably more than most people need. But it's nice to know that if you outgrow the 250. the extra power is there. I think a $150 to $160 ish a great price to have the best of everything
Naming conventions madness, the Crossfire "Lite" module is actually the one that goes intro the JR module bay (the box-style hole), whereas the Crossfire "Nano" is the one that goes into the "Lite" module bay (sliding into the pins)
I watched Bruce's video and then came over here for the affiliate link... But the shipping is so slow OR expensive. There are other options, that I know you have talked about before (most innovative, if not risky neckstrap). That are fast and cheap. Obviously the real problem is me waiting to the last minute to purchase and needing it NOW! ;). But it would be nice if you had that affiliate link too.
Once again I learnt something today, thatnks again Joshua. I have the radiomaster t16s and love it, took a bit of time to learn after having a spektrum m but once I got used to it I absolutely love it. The only thing I’m not that fond of is how big it is, takes a bit of getting used to as far as finger and hand placement ,so a smaller game controller type would be great. Definitely thinking about that smaller radiomaster as I like the size and the bigger screen, most likely with the crossfire, although that express lrs unit looks very tempting.
Albert Kim, I think it was him I've been watching so many reviews on this today, noted that the menu scroll wheel was a true cylinder rather than the conical shaped ones of the Tango 2 & Jumper T Pro - that in itself is a reason for me to go for the Zorro, my order is being placed tonight :)
@@sadboybushido With a conical shaped dial it's variable how much you have to roll your thumb over it to get to the next notch, with a cylinder shape it doesn't matter where you place your thumb, it always moves the same distance for each notch, which is easier to get used to.
My user experience with Crossfire has NOT been pleasant. I think binding worked like it's supposed to maybe 2 times (out of like 15). Every other time, something has gone wrong and it has been a major headache. Of course, everyone will say "you're doing something wrong" and maybe I am, but I'm not a noob and I'm still having problems. Also, flashing the tango has been an absolute NIGHTMARE every single time I've done it. I've gotten to the point where I just will not flash the tango ever again. I'm boarding the ExpressLRS train as we speak! But anyway, great review Joshua! Lots of useful information!
Did you have a problem with frsky? If you struggled with frsky, then crossfire will usually be a breeze. I haven't had any issues with crossfire, they always bind right away. I do sometimes forget how to re-bind an old xr and I'll have to watch the vid for the button sequence but for the most part my experience has been pleasant.
From a guy who glazed over at the ELRS videos,... When I actually did the flashing and set up, it was pretty easy and once you do it once, setting up future devices is easier than anything!!
After all of my research...I would get the 4in1 version + Happymodel ES24Tx Slim Pro ELRS module + Vapcell F14 1400mah batteries. That is the best I would guess ~4hrs battery on ELRS with this setup (internal ELRS has power issues on Zorro). Up to 1w if needed, and the most battery life without modifications. If you want more battery life, then go 18500 batteries 2000mah and modify the Zorro to fit them. Or 18650 but then you might have to modify the gimbles slighty to fit them. Or external battery pack if you want even more. 4in1 gives you capability to fly all kinds of models in the future if you ever buy them.
I absolutely love my Zorro, such a great radio. The only issue I ever had was the random "telemetry lost" "telemetry recovered" during flight (even while fully retaining control link still), but after updating EdgeTX that issue was completely gone. The battery life has not been an issue for me, even once I run through all my packs it still has plenty of battery life left. I found turning off the screen backlight and setting the transmission power to dynamic 250mW improves it quite a lot.
I'm new to drones. I've been using HPI cars back in the days, but I want to get into Cinematic FPV drones. However, I need to get started somewhere and found out that I do need to learn how to fly first. And therefore I've been looking at controllers. Everything drone related seems to be really expensive, so I need to do some climbing. However, a good controller is needed in any case and I first looked at the FrSky ones. After seeing your video about FrSky taking an Apple turn, I figured I didn't want any of that. So, here I am, looking at the RadioMaster Zorro Radio ELRS Starter Set 16ch instead. And it looks very good. I have no issues with messing around with firmware and such, so that's no hinder for me at least. And since the RM Zorro supports use for simulators, that's probably the one I'm going for. I can't be crashing all the new drones, so the simulator is a really good alternative. So, thank you very much for this video that made me make up my mind. Still can't afford the thing, but hopefully, one day, I will, and I can open the door to go and explore the birds view of the world.
While people praise the informative overlays, I have to admit I really enjoy the handwritten notes on your little notebook. It could be a nice touch to present the now overlaid information in a hand written form. :) Would suit your authentic style!
I was THAT GUY that started off with a Frsky xlite and RXSR it was an absolute nightmare of a struggle to get it to work as a newbie and almost made me rage quit the hobby. New folks to the hobby please please please listen to Joshua and start out with a Radiomaster using ELRS, Crossfire, or Tracer. My frsky setup took weeks of headaches and a huge learning curve to get working. Once I ordered a Radiomaster tx16s and a Crossfire starter kit it took 10min to setup 2 drones and and worked flawlessly, handsdown the best decision I've ever made in the hobby.
Great video JB. I really like how you broke down the difference between each "Zorro package" Both the Zorro and Jumper TPro have good and bad. I think of anyone is looking at either, and hasn't decided should wait for the Commando 8 review. However, I truly believe it'll be between these 2 radios. I think iflight will end up pricing themselves out of the game. Just my humble opinion. All the newbies, definitely listen. Get the Elrs version or the crossfire version. You won't be disappointed by skipping over FrSky. I know this first hand...alot of us do. 😁
Jumper has put themselves out of the running because of low quality! I won't ever buy another Jumper product - it's the lowest end product with Eachine, in the FPV hobby! J U N K ! ;)
@@KOrnhOliO1 I can't disagree with you on that. I owned a Jumper T18 before my tx16s. Though they are the same "style" radio, I was very unhappy with the quality of the Jumper. I sold it a few weeks after buying and bought the tx16s and haven't looked back since. If I finally decide to go with elrs, (currently use crossfire), I will most likely keep my tx16s as is and go with a Zorro. I like the button layout so much better than the Jumper and frankly, personally, don't trust buying another Jumper radio product. The T pro may be an excellent radio for someone, not me personally...lol...or you. Hahaha. But someone getting into this hobby may like features that the t pro offers...that is if it works properly. Lol
@@ericboff7273 I picked up a Jumper T18 Pro V2, they replaced the 5in1 with a 4in1 and made the touch work but when I had some issues I visited their website just to find Jumper hasn't finished building the website nor do they provide any support or spare parts, reply to support emails doesn't happen. My advice to reviewers is to check on the manufactures service and support then talk about it, a product without support is a pet rock waiting to collect dust!
Reasonable review. I do however feel the section covering Zorro's protocol options was poorly done. (from 15:25) An important differentiator between protocols and Rx's is the ability to provide telemetry. This can be very useful for keeping a running GPS flight log, should your quad go down and need rescuing. (as well as providing a recording of other data) The crossfire option was compared as if it was just another 2.4 GHz spectrum option. It's a 900 MHz option. Also ELRS internal module is a 2.4 GHz option with 250mW power. External modules offer up to 1 W, and there are also 900 MHz options for ELRS. The comparisons made between Crossfire and ELRS amounted to Rx pricing. Not really focused on the Radiomaster product itself. Bother ELRS and Crossfire offer telemetry. There could be good justification in having both. ELRS on 2.4 GHz and Crossfire on 900 MHz. Much really depends on if a potential Radiomaster Zorro customer is new to the hobby, or has existing equipment. This would make for a good follow-on video, or livestream discussion. Example: Expect even a 900 MHz R9M-lite external module could be used. (which could be refreshed with ELRS). So many possibilities and options. A truly open protocol and open software offering. :) I do agree with you, JB (@ 20:00) that new pilots should consider ELRS (2.4 GHz) as their first protocol and Tx/Rx setup. More that many suppliers of BNF quads are now offering ELRS options. This wasn't the case 12-18 months ago. As a beginner having telemetry to radio to verify quad operation on plugging in the battery can be very useful. Less complicated the checking OSD in goggles. (battery voltage, etc). For those needing 4-in-1 support in future, there are reasonable priced modules readily available. Decision what option to purchase becomes when vs either/or.
It's always a challenge to put in enough information to be useful, but not too much that isn't directly relevant to the video. I have a whole 20+ minute video about choosing between control protocols, so the topic could have gone on forever and then most people wouldn't watch it. All of the available modules support telemetry. So it's not a differentiator between these radios and doesn't need to be mentioned when making a buying decision. Likewise 900 vs 2.4: both give far more range than 99% of pilots will ever need, so for a beginner just starting out its not the primary differentiator.
Looks like I'll be selling a T16+Crossfire module sometime this year, my Zorro order is in :) Had to order it from Banggood because it was sold out in the UK, not in any particular hurry so no worries. Went for the 4in1 + Crossfire version, I may buy an ELRS module in the future.
I guess I’ll have to see how it feels in my hands compared to my Tango 2, may not make much sense to switch otherwise. I’m fine with using a module for ELRS.

Great, well structured and informative video. What would have been useful would be to explain which modes of use this radio is certified for FCC or CE use. I think think at the time of writing this is a small subset of the functionality you have covered. For example. ELRS is illegal above 10mW in the EU.
Metal gimbals for the Zorro would be amazing. I find full size radios to be too large in my hands, but the gimbals available on the smaller radios leave a lot to be desired.
@@divingfalconfpv4602 My experience is the same on a QX7S. If you thumb it might be worth trying out the 'Grand Lotus' stick ends from FrSky, or one of the other variants they sell. The increased size of the thumb grip area gave me a bit more reach. Not much you can do if you're pinching though.
It's so cool that you can buy a tlite, a t pro, a zorro, and a tx12 , for less than the cost of like a dx9 10 years ago... radios have gotten so inexpensive.. yet they are better.. that don't happen often for us consumers
Not really sure why the screen sticks out so much over the top. Its missing the point of a gamestyle controller when its larger than some box radios. Seems like it would be more compact in between the gimbals or grips. other than that, seems like a solid transmitter.
What box radio is this Zorro bigger than? Come on! LOL heehee! That bigger screen is soooo nice! Plus, the look and quality looks so much better and more "high end" than the cheap looking Jumper radios. I know the quality is better than Jumper, that's for sure!
I'm a beginner and I'm already your fan. I wanted to know your opinion on the Zorro cause I'm looking for a gamepad style controller and wow, I don't know if you can say the T-pro is the first because it's a total ripoff of DJI's FPV controller.

Nice to hear that Radiomaster is putting out ELRS receivers, hope they are better than the Jhemcu junk I wasted money on. Is Radiomaster going to be making a micro size ELRS external module? In order for ELRS to move forward there is going to have to be quality hardware availiable, it's not cheaper is the stuff dosn.t work!
I'm gonna buy the Zorro, it's the best for what I need I just hope the ergonomics fit me well as a thumb flyer. Now that cnc gimbals are available for it theres no other tx that compares. just wish it was more expensive, i could deal with a higher price for better build quality
The t-pro has all the momentary buttons accross the top . After radiomaster attached it to the tv set on top sticking out they had to stick those buttons all over the back and in different places and left out the leds to save battery for a second weak flight . Thats a good save .

Got a Jumper T16 Pro (with the integrated 4-in-1). Love it. It has developed the ribbon cable plague. I was able to repair everything but the right finger slider, whose connector broke internally. I don't use the finger sliders though. Been considering a small gamepad style radio for throwing in the bag alongside a little sub250g quad. Debating between whether I want to get the Zorro in 4-in-1 built in, and upgrade with modules (Crossfire or ELRS), or get the Zorro in ELRS, then buy a 4-in-1 module (TBS MPM?). Or go all in on ELRS going forwards with the Zorro and just use the Jumper for 4-in-1 needs. Not entirely sure yet. The 4-in-1 would be least expensive now, as I don't have to buy either receivers or a module, and give me options for upgrading. ELRS would be more convenient if/when I eventually migrate to full ELRS, no module required. I do have a bunch of old little cheap toy drones and a Walkera that were a big factor in me choosing the Jumper and its 4-in-1 originally, so maintaining 4-in-1 support, whether by module or integrated, is still desired. Even if I'm preparing to replace the Walkera because it still runs freaking Cleanflight and I've smashed it into the ground more times than I can count anymore.
I think the JP4IN1 and adding an external long range module would be the most versatile option. I wouldn’t want a one trick pony. If you only do ELRS or Crossfire then your choice is obvious. I was wondering what CC2500 was. Does the JP4IN1 do CC2500?
CC2500 covers FrSky which is far more popular than FlySky and Spektrum, and lowers cost. The $20 between the 4-in-1 and the CC2500 radio is basically all eat up by the extra RF chips.
With the 4 in 1 your controller works with a wide range of ground vehicles, planes, helis, boats, and other hobby vehicles. If you even think you might get into anything other than FPV quads, I wouldn't stick yourself with a cc2500 only to regret it later.
Looking forward to the Commando video. The dual band ELRS model is interesting, but they need to sort out their advertising on what power will actually be available.
just bought a Jumper T-Pro ELRS version. it came with a 2 position switch on the bottom right instead of 2 sliders. cant find any information on it. looks and feels good.
I have XL hands and same issue thumbing the TBS Tango 2 as what Joshua shows here around 5 minutes in. Bummer it's the same situation w/ this tx as I've been anxious to dump the Tango but still have a small backup tx to the TX16S.
I have no intention of using any of the internal radio options because I already fly crossfire using a V2 module in my Radiomaster TX16S. So I've bought the cheapest CC2500 version, as well as a retrofit kit you can buy (for only $10) to transfer the internal electronics from the bigger JR bay module, into a "lite" or what TBS call the Nano TX module casing.
Just curious ... You already have THE BEST radio - The TX16S - so why would you need another? I don't get why people own multiple radios. I've had a QX7 with upgraded Hall gimbals since I started in this hobby in 2016, and it's been awesome! Thanks!
@@KOrnhOliO1 My TX16S is indeed the best radio I've ever owned. It's perfect for flying sessions when I have the ability to take my bigger bag with all my gear in. I intend to use this Zorro radio for when I don't have enough space for my big bag in my car, or if we're going on a family trip to the country and I want something more compact to fit in a smaller backpack, along with supplies, but still want to do some FPV.
Reduce the display size a lot so that it doesn't take so much space, replace switches with push buttons, then it'd be perfect (for me personally). Out of all the 3 new radios the iFlight looks the one that might fit the bill. Basically really just want Tango 2 form factor ish (not much larger like the RadioMaster due to the display sticking out and taking more space), with similar (push) buttons, ELRS builtin...
Im flying the Zorro exclusively now. My biggest gripes are short battery life and the fact that they have separate usb ports for charging and pc sims. Because with the Tango 2 its the same port and this was great because at night if I wanted to fly a sim for a few hours, it would also be charging the radio so I would be ready to go the next day. Now I have to make sure I either charge EVERY night or have a spare 2s battery on me. Really bad choice there. Otherwise its great, especially with the new AG01 all metal gimbals.
Yo I'm new to fpv. Havnt even flown yet, still waiting on parts in the mail. So flight time seems to be really short with these thing, is it possible to wire multiple batteries to your drone to increase flight time? I know this will make it substantially heavier and change how it flies... but like I said I'm new, I won't be doing anything crazy.. I just want to learn to fly in more than just 15minute intervals lol Maybe you suggest I don't do this tho becuase i will be getting accustomed to flying wrong and how am I supposed to really use the range this thing supposedly has, if my battery dies before I ever get there?

Dear Joshua, thank you very much for this video, it's very good. I want to buy a Radiomaster Zorro 4in1 and most of them are offered as FCC, but I need to have EU LBT. I've downloaded the latest firmwares for FCC and EU LBT directly from Radiomaster's homepage , but how can I flash different firmwares FCC or EU LBT or change from one firmware to another? The firmware folders from Radiomaster's homepage also contain a folder named SD card, do I have to flash that folder too and if so, what to flash first , firmware or SD card? And there's also multi-protocol, which obviously contains both FCC and EU LBT and even a LUA-folder. And there's also EdgeTX companion and an SD card update function. I'm completely confused now. If I understand it right, then EdgeTX is the operating system and is independent from FCC, EU LBT or multi-protocol. But what to flash in which order? Thank you very much and have a nice day. Great review! I think the 4 in 1 is the best option, because you can then add an external 500mw to 1 watt ELRS. The internal version is only 250mw. Sure, 250mw can go 30km in the desert, but in my residential neighborhood, i can only go 15 houses down the street before failsafe with 1 watt of crossfire, in direct line of sight. 2.4ghz would be even less. Modern neighborhoods are an RF interference nightmare.
That depends. I'm new in fpv. I've ordered cc2500. It's cheaper but I know my first drone will be FrSky one. Next I'll' buy nano ELRS. I don't need so many protocols like in 4in1

i get my hands into drone every other year. its not by accident that i come back to Bardwell's channel. dude is honest, no agenda, and does a helluva good job. i just got the DJI FPV drone. now that i have some goggles, i am looking into building a drone using the DJI O3 system, but need a radio. i like both of these, leaning towards the T-PRo

Bind and flys are a big consideration too. A JP4in1 internal with ELRS external, or visa-versa will provide a wider range of options for a beginner.
I agree with this. There are a greater number of different external ELRS modules currently available, and there will be more to come. Locking yourself in to an internal ELRS module doesn't make sense, especially considering you can't put a different antenna on it. An external module gives you much more freedom and configurability. Yes, I understand that 250mw is all you might need, but what if you "want" something more powerful in the future? You'll end up buying an external ELRS module anyway.
So if giving yourself the widest range of options is important to you, then yes the 4-in-1 version is the most sensible option. That way you can put anything you want on the back of the radio.
If however you already have a bunch of aircraft, with a specific flavour of control receiver installed, then pick whatever version has the internal module that works with those receivers. If none of the internal module options works with your current gear (in my case Crossfire) then the best solution is to buy the cheapest CC2500 version, and get a crossfire (or whatever control link you have, tracer/ghost etc) module for the back.

100% agreed! Not only there are many B&F whoops that don't need the crazy range, but also there more to RC than drones only and a dual system will allow to use the same radio for fixed wings as well.
That's exactly why I just said screw it & went all in on a TX16S Max. More options makes it easier to fly multiple protocols and ELRS combo packs aren't crazy spendy.
The Zorro with 4-in-1 module has me seriously reconsidering if I need a full-size radio like an x9d+ for TX16S. I fly DIY foamboard fixed wings, RTF/BNF parkfliers, tiny whoops, 2" quad, 5" quad.... it would save a lot of room in the backpack!!!
No, Zorro doesn't, it is almost so thick and tall than a qx7. Jumper t-pro is the one save space and weight

I got in the hobby with R-XSR receivers and OMG what a learning curve it was, finding compatible RX and TX firmwares to be able to establish connection!
Converting to ExpressLRS, yes, you have many options to choose from in the configurator but it works even with the defaults and you only need to set your "binding frase" and you are good to go!
You didn't mention the $20 adapters you had to purchase to talk to the receivers!

We all knew the Zorro was coming. You can't hold a review of a new product for a month or more on the potential that a later product might be better, especially these days when a promised product might be delayed by months.
I have little interest in buying either of these controllers, but I just enjoy watching you review products. It's nice to see you bring up little problems and I feel there is plenty of sincerity and honesty in each review. Keep it up , keep evolving...err but not too much ;o)
I'm still using my Frsky Taranis X9 Plus ACCST and XM Plus RX's. Not flashing in long time.
P.S. The Express LRS in the Zorro is not the 1 watt version. I think it's the 250mw. You should get the Zorro 4 in 1 and add a Express LRS 1 watt module. This gives you option down the road.

The 4-in-1 seems like the best choice to me. But I'm going in knowing, I'm going to be buying a module for ELRS. Having that 4 in 1 can just be so versatile with whoops. Just saying you might want to try RedPine. And 250 is probably more than most people need. But it's nice to know that if you outgrow the 250. the extra power is there. I think a $150 to $160 ish a great price to have the best of everything

Naming conventions madness, the Crossfire "Lite" module is actually the one that goes intro the JR module bay (the box-style hole), whereas the Crossfire "Nano" is the one that goes into the "Lite" module bay (sliding into the pins)

I watched Bruce's video and then came over here for the affiliate link... But the shipping is so slow OR expensive. There are other options, that I know you have talked about before (most innovative, if not risky neckstrap). That are fast and cheap. Obviously the real problem is me waiting to the last minute to purchase and needing it NOW! ;). But it would be nice if you had that affiliate link too.
Once again I learnt something today, thatnks again Joshua. I have the radiomaster t16s and love it, took a bit of time to learn after having a spektrum m but once I got used to it I absolutely love it. The only thing I’m not that fond of is how big it is, takes a bit of getting used to as far as finger and hand placement ,so a smaller game controller type would be great. Definitely thinking about that smaller radiomaster as I like the size and the bigger screen, most likely with the crossfire, although that express lrs unit looks very tempting.

Albert Kim, I think it was him I've been watching so many reviews on this today, noted that the menu scroll wheel was a true cylinder rather than the conical shaped ones of the Tango 2 & Jumper T Pro - that in itself is a reason for me to go for the Zorro, my order is being placed tonight :)

@@sadboybushido With a conical shaped dial it's variable how much you have to roll your thumb over it to get to the next notch, with a cylinder shape it doesn't matter where you place your thumb, it always moves the same distance for each notch, which is easier to get used to.
My user experience with Crossfire has NOT been pleasant. I think binding worked like it's supposed to maybe 2 times (out of like 15). Every other time, something has gone wrong and it has been a major headache. Of course, everyone will say "you're doing something wrong" and maybe I am, but I'm not a noob and I'm still having problems. Also, flashing the tango has been an absolute NIGHTMARE every single time I've done it. I've gotten to the point where I just will not flash the tango ever again. I'm boarding the ExpressLRS train as we speak! But anyway, great review Joshua! Lots of useful information!
Did you have a problem with frsky? If you struggled with frsky, then crossfire will usually be a breeze. I haven't had any issues with crossfire, they always bind right away. I do sometimes forget how to re-bind an old xr and I'll have to watch the vid for the button sequence but for the most part my experience has been pleasant.
From a guy who glazed over at the ELRS videos,... When I actually did the flashing and set up, it was pretty easy and once you do it once, setting up future devices is easier than anything!!

After all of my research...I would get the 4in1 version + Happymodel ES24Tx Slim Pro ELRS module + Vapcell F14 1400mah batteries. That is the best I would guess ~4hrs battery on ELRS with this setup (internal ELRS has power issues on Zorro). Up to 1w if needed, and the most battery life without modifications. If you want more battery life, then go 18500 batteries 2000mah and modify the Zorro to fit them. Or 18650 but then you might have to modify the gimbles slighty to fit them. Or external battery pack if you want even more. 4in1 gives you capability to fly all kinds of models in the future if you ever buy them.
I absolutely love my Zorro, such a great radio. The only issue I ever had was the random "telemetry lost" "telemetry recovered" during flight (even while fully retaining control link still), but after updating EdgeTX that issue was completely gone. The battery life has not been an issue for me, even once I run through all my packs it still has plenty of battery life left. I found turning off the screen backlight and setting the transmission power to dynamic 250mW improves it quite a lot.
I'm new to drones. I've been using HPI cars back in the days, but I want to get into Cinematic FPV drones. However, I need to get started somewhere and found out that I do need to learn how to fly first. And therefore I've been looking at controllers. Everything drone related seems to be really expensive, so I need to do some climbing. However, a good controller is needed in any case and I first looked at the FrSky ones. After seeing your video about FrSky taking an Apple turn, I figured I didn't want any of that. So, here I am, looking at the RadioMaster Zorro Radio ELRS Starter Set 16ch instead. And it looks very good. I have no issues with messing around with firmware and such, so that's no hinder for me at least. And since the RM Zorro supports use for simulators, that's probably the one I'm going for. I can't be crashing all the new drones, so the simulator is a really good alternative.
So, thank you very much for this video that made me make up my mind.
Still can't afford the thing, but hopefully, one day, I will, and I can open the door to go and explore the birds view of the world.
While people praise the informative overlays, I have to admit I really enjoy the handwritten notes on your little notebook.
It could be a nice touch to present the now overlaid information in a hand written form. :)

I was THAT GUY that started off with a Frsky xlite and RXSR it was an absolute nightmare of a struggle to get it to work as a newbie and almost made me rage quit the hobby. New folks to the hobby please please please listen to Joshua and start out with a Radiomaster using ELRS, Crossfire, or Tracer. My frsky setup took weeks of headaches and a huge learning curve to get working. Once I ordered a Radiomaster tx16s and a Crossfire starter kit it took 10min to setup 2 drones and and worked flawlessly, handsdown the best decision I've ever made in the hobby.
Great video JB. I really like how you broke down the difference between each "Zorro package" Both the Zorro and Jumper TPro have good and bad. I think of anyone is looking at either, and hasn't decided should wait for the Commando 8 review. However, I truly believe it'll be between these 2 radios. I think iflight will end up pricing themselves out of the game. Just my humble opinion. All the newbies, definitely listen. Get the Elrs version or the crossfire version. You won't be disappointed by skipping over FrSky. I know this first hand...alot of us do. 😁
Jumper has put themselves out of the running because of low quality! I won't ever buy another Jumper product - it's the lowest end product with Eachine, in the FPV hobby! J U N K ! ;)
@@KOrnhOliO1 I can't disagree with you on that. I owned a Jumper T18 before my tx16s. Though they are the same "style" radio, I was very unhappy with the quality of the Jumper. I sold it a few weeks after buying and bought the tx16s and haven't looked back since. If I finally decide to go with elrs, (currently use crossfire), I will most likely keep my tx16s as is and go with a Zorro. I like the button layout so much better than the Jumper and frankly, personally, don't trust buying another Jumper radio product. The T pro may be an excellent radio for someone, not me personally...lol...or you. Hahaha. But someone getting into this hobby may like features that the t pro offers...that is if it works properly. Lol
@@ericboff7273 I picked up a Jumper T18 Pro V2, they replaced the 5in1 with a 4in1 and made the touch work but when I had some issues I visited their website just to find Jumper hasn't finished building the website nor do they provide any support or spare parts, reply to support emails doesn't happen. My advice to reviewers is to check on the manufactures service and support then talk about it, a product without support is a pet rock waiting to collect dust!

Reasonable review. I do however feel the section covering Zorro's protocol options was poorly done. (from 15:25)
An important differentiator between protocols and Rx's is the ability to provide telemetry. This can be very useful for keeping a running GPS flight log, should your quad go down and need rescuing. (as well as providing a recording of other data)
The crossfire option was compared as if it was just another 2.4 GHz spectrum option. It's a 900 MHz option.
Also ELRS internal module is a 2.4 GHz option with 250mW power. External modules offer up to 1 W, and there are also 900 MHz options for ELRS.
The comparisons made between Crossfire and ELRS amounted to Rx pricing. Not really focused on the Radiomaster product itself. Bother ELRS and Crossfire offer telemetry. There could be good justification in having both. ELRS on 2.4 GHz and Crossfire on 900 MHz.
Much really depends on if a potential Radiomaster Zorro customer is new to the hobby, or has existing equipment.
This would make for a good follow-on video, or livestream discussion.
Example: Expect even a 900 MHz R9M-lite external module could be used. (which could be refreshed with ELRS).
So many possibilities and options. A truly open protocol and open software offering. :)
I do agree with you, JB (@ 20:00) that new pilots should consider ELRS (2.4 GHz) as their first protocol and Tx/Rx setup. More that many suppliers of BNF quads are now offering ELRS options. This wasn't the case 12-18 months ago. As a beginner having telemetry to radio to verify quad operation on plugging in the battery can be very useful. Less complicated the checking OSD in goggles. (battery voltage, etc). For those needing 4-in-1 support in future, there are reasonable priced modules readily available. Decision what option to purchase becomes when vs either/or.
It's always a challenge to put in enough information to be useful, but not too much that isn't directly relevant to the video. I have a whole 20+ minute video about choosing between control protocols, so the topic could have gone on forever and then most people wouldn't watch it.
All of the available modules support telemetry. So it's not a differentiator between these radios and doesn't need to be mentioned when making a buying decision. Likewise 900 vs 2.4: both give far more range than 99% of pilots will ever need, so for a beginner just starting out its not the primary differentiator.

Great, well structured and informative video. What would have been useful would be to explain which modes of use this radio is certified for FCC or CE use. I think think at the time of writing this is a small subset of the functionality you have covered. For example. ELRS is illegal above 10mW in the EU.

Metal gimbals for the Zorro would be amazing. I find full size radios to be too large in my hands, but the gimbals available on the smaller radios leave a lot to be desired.
Yea. I picked up t18 pro it's bigger that the x9 lite s I had even. Harder for me to reach fully in on sticks.. I have to hold it lower in my hands.
@@divingfalconfpv4602 My experience is the same on a QX7S. If you thumb it might be worth trying out the 'Grand Lotus' stick ends from FrSky, or one of the other variants they sell. The increased size of the thumb grip area gave me a bit more reach. Not much you can do if you're pinching though.

It's so cool that you can buy a tlite, a t pro, a zorro, and a tx12 , for less than the cost of like a dx9 10 years ago... radios have gotten so inexpensive.. yet they are better.. that don't happen often for us consumers
Not really sure why the screen sticks out so much over the top. Its missing the point of a gamestyle controller when its larger than some box radios. Seems like it would be more compact in between the gimbals or grips. other than that, seems like a solid transmitter.
What box radio is this Zorro bigger than? Come on! LOL heehee! That bigger screen is soooo nice! Plus, the look and quality looks so much better and more "high end" than the cheap looking Jumper radios. I know the quality is better than Jumper, that's for sure!

I'm gonna buy the Zorro, it's the best for what I need I just hope the ergonomics fit me well as a thumb flyer. Now that cnc gimbals are available for it theres no other tx that compares. just wish it was more expensive, i could deal with a higher price for better build quality
The t-pro has all the momentary buttons accross the top . After radiomaster attached it to the tv set on top sticking out they had to stick those buttons all over the back and in different places and left out the leds to save battery for a second weak flight . Thats a good save .
I still rock my T16, haven't found a reason to upgrade.

Hey Josh, when can we expect a review of the iflight commando 8? I like that it's got a 4 in 1 and ELRS internal receiver built in but if the Zorro is a better controller I'll happily get that instead.
Got a Jumper T16 Pro (with the integrated 4-in-1). Love it. It has developed the ribbon cable plague. I was able to repair everything but the right finger slider, whose connector broke internally.
I don't use the finger sliders though. Been considering a small gamepad style radio for throwing in the bag alongside a little sub250g quad.
Debating between whether I want to get the Zorro in 4-in-1 built in, and upgrade with modules (Crossfire or ELRS), or get the Zorro in ELRS, then buy a 4-in-1 module (TBS MPM?).
Or go all in on ELRS going forwards with the Zorro and just use the Jumper for 4-in-1 needs. Not entirely sure yet.
The 4-in-1 would be least expensive now, as I don't have to buy either receivers or a module, and give me options for upgrading. ELRS would be more convenient if/when I eventually migrate to full ELRS, no module required.
I do have a bunch of old little cheap toy drones and a Walkera that were a big factor in me choosing the Jumper and its 4-in-1 originally, so maintaining 4-in-1 support, whether by module or integrated, is still desired. Even if I'm preparing to replace the Walkera because it still runs freaking Cleanflight and I've smashed it into the ground more times than I can count anymore.
I think the JP4IN1 and adding an external long range module would be the most versatile option. I wouldn’t want a one trick pony. If you only do ELRS or Crossfire then your choice is obvious. I was wondering what CC2500 was. Does the JP4IN1 do CC2500?
Yes, CC2500 is just one of the four radio chips of the 4in1

CC2500 covers FrSky which is far more popular than FlySky and Spektrum, and lowers cost. The $20 between the 4-in-1 and the CC2500 radio is basically all eat up by the extra RF chips.

With the 4 in 1 your controller works with a wide range of ground vehicles, planes, helis, boats, and other hobby vehicles. If you even think you might get into anything other than FPV quads, I wouldn't stick yourself with a cc2500 only to regret it later.

Side by side with Tango and X-Lite would be cool. The shape and size looks very similar to the X-Lite.
I was also surprised he did not mention it. X-Lite is probably superior to both.
Watch Nick Burns Zorro review. He does a bit of a comparison with the X-Lite which was his go-to radio for a long time.

Same here. The switches (if the T-Lite didn't have momentary....) and smaller form factor is the things that make the T-Lite and Zorro not a good fit.
just bought a Jumper T-Pro ELRS version. it came with a 2 position switch on the bottom right instead of 2 sliders. cant find any information on it. looks and feels good.

I have XL hands and same issue thumbing the TBS Tango 2 as what Joshua shows here around 5 minutes in. Bummer it's the same situation w/ this tx as I've been anxious to dump the Tango but still have a small backup tx to the TX16S.

I have no intention of using any of the internal radio options because I already fly crossfire using a V2 module in my Radiomaster TX16S. So I've bought the cheapest CC2500 version, as well as a retrofit kit you can buy (for only $10) to transfer the internal electronics from the bigger JR bay module, into a "lite" or what TBS call the Nano TX module casing.
Just curious ... You already have THE BEST radio - The TX16S - so why would you need another? I don't get why people own multiple radios. I've had a QX7 with upgraded Hall gimbals since I started in this hobby in 2016, and it's been awesome! Thanks!
@@KOrnhOliO1 My TX16S is indeed the best radio I've ever owned. It's perfect for flying sessions when I have the ability to take my bigger bag with all my gear in. I intend to use this Zorro radio for when I don't have enough space for my big bag in my car, or if we're going on a family trip to the country and I want something more compact to fit in a smaller backpack, along with supplies, but still want to do some FPV.
Reduce the display size a lot so that it doesn't take so much space, replace switches with push buttons, then it'd be perfect (for me personally). Out of all the 3 new radios the iFlight looks the one that might fit the bill. Basically really just want Tango 2 form factor ish (not much larger like the RadioMaster due to the display sticking out and taking more space), with similar (push) buttons, ELRS builtin...

Analytics! Another quandary to resolve, have a X Lite, but haven’t resolved the reverse flashing to get back to the pre 2.0 “bug”. Winter dilemma.
Im flying the Zorro exclusively now. My biggest gripes are short battery life and the fact that they have separate usb ports for charging and pc sims. Because with the Tango 2 its the same port and this was great because at night if I wanted to fly a sim for a few hours, it would also be charging the radio so I would be ready to go the next day. Now I have to make sure I either charge EVERY night or have a spare 2s battery on me. Really bad choice there. Otherwise its great, especially with the new AG01 all metal gimbals.
Yo I'm new to fpv. Havnt even flown yet, still waiting on parts in the mail.
So flight time seems to be really short with these thing, is it possible to wire multiple batteries to your drone to increase flight time?
I know this will make it substantially heavier and change how it flies... but like I said I'm new, I won't be doing anything crazy.. I just want to learn to fly in more than just 15minute intervals lol
Maybe you suggest I don't do this tho becuase i will be getting accustomed to flying wrong
and how am I supposed to really use the range this thing supposedly has, if my battery dies before I ever get there?
Hey love the canal and all the infogain i get from it. am complity ny to FPV and is looking into getting started and the RadioMaster Zorro 4-in-1 is in a starter pack.
Can it handle som fing lika a FT Mighty Mini Arrow Wing WR (737mm)
or do i need to go for the TX16S for it to have the needed functions? Thx you
Dear Joshua, thank you very much for this video, it's very good. I want to buy a Radiomaster Zorro 4in1 and most of them are offered as FCC, but I need to have EU LBT. I've downloaded the latest firmwares for FCC and EU LBT directly from Radiomaster's homepage , but how can I flash different firmwares FCC or EU LBT or change from one firmware to another? The firmware folders from Radiomaster's homepage also contain a folder named SD card, do I have to flash that folder too and if so, what to flash first , firmware or SD card? And there's also multi-protocol, which obviously contains both FCC and EU LBT and even a LUA-folder. And there's also EdgeTX companion and an SD card update function. I'm completely confused now. If I understand it right, then EdgeTX is the operating system and is independent from FCC, EU LBT or multi-protocol. But what to flash in which order? Thank you very much and have a nice day. Great review! I think the 4 in 1 is the best option, because you can then add an external 500mw to 1 watt ELRS. The internal version is only 250mw. Sure, 250mw can go 30km in the desert, but in my residential neighborhood, i can only go 15 houses down the street before failsafe with 1 watt of crossfire, in direct line of sight. 2.4ghz would be even less. Modern neighborhoods are an RF interference nightmare.
That depends. I'm new in fpv. I've ordered cc2500. It's cheaper but I know my first drone will be FrSky one. Next I'll' buy nano ELRS. I don't need so many protocols like in 4in1

In my opinion Crossfire is worth the money hands down. Ease of use, range, latency and quality.
