If you ever do an SSD upgrade video, here's a couple additional things for the Cloud Recovery to bring up:
    1. After installing a new SSD it resets the BIOS date and clock for some reason. After booting into BIOS, BEFORE you go into advanced mode, you MUST set the time/date to the current one. Otherwise Cloud Recovery will halt without error message on the "Cloud Recovery" screen with the little "checking" popup with the rotating loading circle, you can see the one I'm talking about right after the black screen with the white "Loading..." text at 3:14.
    2. If a user has a micro sd card in their Ally, that NEEDS TO BE REMOVED, otherwise Cloud Recovery will halt on a blue screen. The blue screen I'm talking about can be seen for 14 frames around 4:37 after the "Loading files ..." progress bar, right before the "Preparing Deploy HDI" popup. If someone gets stuck there, just removing the micro sd card and waiting for a couple seconds will progress the recovery just fine, but it's probably easier to just straight up tell people to get rid of their micro sd for the duration of the Cloud Recovery and plop it back in once everything is setup and running again.
ASUS did a great job overall but I really wish they would have implemented error messages for these... obscure road bumps, so users knew how to fix them without having to search forums on the net like I just did.
    ----
Another thing worth mentioning, Cloud Recovery doesn't install the latest software, it's based on an older snapshot that's probably a couple months out of date.
This means users have to update Armory Crate, the "My ASUS" components and Windows itself manually after the finished Cloud Recovery to be fully up to speed on all software and security updates.
    ---
Bonus tip: If you have a USB-C hub with an ethernet port you can skip the wifi setup completely, Cloud Recovery will simply use the hardwired internet on the hub without even prompting for wifi.
I'd make my own video about it but you've got the bigger reach and I just want this information to get to as many people as possible, so I hope you'll take it into consideration, thank you.
    Have a great day. ✌

Thank you so much for this! I had the exact issue with the "checking" screen and still had a SD card in the Ally 😂 Edit: I don't know if it's normal but the deploy SWPackage takes really long to load should I start again? And the screen with the message ftpm/psp corrupted or structure changed is always booting up and you can choose between two options😢😢

And what do you do when this makes your 3rd time having to run cloud recovery? Each time it installs and I shutdown my ally next boot up it doesn't find the boot. Now I get to recover again and do it all over again.

Also one important thing... it's a pain but it's better. Once you get the new ally, run the 512gb first, and install the bios updates. Like with the new updates the on screen keyboard works! and so much more it's smooth :). some people change it right away... but have major problems during the process, because the Bios it's not up to date.

Tried it on brand new ally, had bitlocker issue, luckily did not want to save any files, that was the whole point, wanted completely clean restore. It has been 80 minutes now, so slow, it downloaded it fast but the amount of reboots and install procedure is a nightmare for this cloud recovery. I now wish I just did the normal recovery from the built in recovery partition and just chose a clean install. Silly me.

    • @filt3rless
      @filt3rless  ปีที่แล้ว +1

It is a real pain to use the ASUS Bios. I prefer using a USB stick to re-install windows, but the wifi driver has to be loaded and isn't present upon the initial boot. So a dock with ethernet needs to be used, or a special command prompt line.

    • @filt3rless

    • @filt3rless

The dock I have with the official charger only shows 25W in Turbo. However, it does draw 30W APU power non-stop. But it won't switch power profiles automatically which is a bummer. I'm thinking I just need to buy a 100W charger and test that out, so I'm looking into that now. However, I run manual mode 25W when plugged in anyway as the Turbo mode boost to 43W causing the system to get way too hot IMO.
