      So how the hell do we get Asus to register our device to our account? I bought mine used from bestbuy and it was already registered, so cloud recovery is not an option and I can't justify wasting money on a cloning enclosure Im only ever going to use once.

    just picked up my Asus rig ally today with a 2TB SSD. this process went flawless for me, super appreciate this video! only thing that scared me was after I switched out the SSD, I put the back on and put in all the screws and it still wouldn't power on. I had to plug it in and then power on. So, if anyone else hit that issue, try plugging it in with the power cord. Awesome video!

      I wish I would have watched this first. All other videos don't say anything about updating beforehand. I kept getting an error. It also says you "can't connect to network." Would you like to connect to a China server?" I finally have it downloading the files, but we'll see if it works. I will be following this guide if it doesn't work!! Great video. I wish everyone was as thorough. I also changed the date and time in bios as recommended by a reddit chat, but that didn't work.. I really hope everything comes out correctly...I really hope I'm not a Chinese spy now also! 😅😅 I'm subscribed and liked your video🎉 Thanks again. Well see what happens...namaste

    Great Video....... I could understand this process 2-3 months ago but for my 3hr research I found it better to get a 4tb Crucial P3 Plus 4TB PCIe Gen4 3D NAND NVMe M.2 2280 SSD [$205us]. Use M.2 NVMe heatsink, 2280 SSD Heat Sink Support Single Double Sided with Thermal Silicone Pads for PC for the SSD [$10us]. Use PCIE4.0 Transfer Board for Rog Ally Handheld SSD Adapter 90 Degrees [this will make the installation horizontal instead of vertical] $10us. so no need to cut any plastic or need to move antenna. Yes it's expensive but easier to install & you get close to 4tb, the 2tb M.2 2230 SSD is $200us [standard replacement].

    There is a sensor inside that when you remove the back cover you can not turn the Ally on so its not necessary to remove the battery cable. Yes Asus thought to add this feature because people will upgrade their Ally and they don't want you to accidently turn it on while removing the SSD.
    After you put the cover back on you cant actually turn it on until you plug the power adaptor in.

    • @okestgamer
      @okestgamer  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Me and that sensor got very well acquainted. I didn’t know about it and thought I bricked the damn thing for like 3 hours lol. I gave up and closed it back up only to see it rise from the dead lol.

      @austintse5719 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@okestgamer yeah I probably would have thought I bricked mine too if I didn't know about the sensor. I know this from watching the official Rog Ally teardown video. I don't know why they don't make people aware of this sensor feature so people don't get a fright when they go to upgrade their SSD.

      I wouldn't trust not removing battery cable. With the SD card bug issue I wouldn't trust ASUS and take a chance to lose $800+

      While it makes sense , better safe than sorry:)

    Decided to swap my steam deck 2tb WD SN70 SSD to my Ally, which pretty easy. Hardest problem I had was removing the Ally SSD because my fat fingers made it hard to get good grab to pull out. Asus Cloud recovery was very helpful. Decided to add copper heat shield to my SDD but probably useless, but had an extra ssd heatsheild so decided to use it before it get misplaced. Will probably put the original rog ally 512gb ssd into steam deck, and will probably use 1tb micro SD card on steam deck. Don't trust using my SD card on the ally. Compared to all my handhelds this was by far the easiest to install new hard drive so much i didn't even need to watch this video im just here for the sub and like😅. One thing i love about my rog is how user friendly asus make the device with armory crate it's not quite there yet but it's still great. The one thing is the battery if i want to play a aaa game like Diablo 4 or street fighter 6 i barely get a hour and that's horrible but to be honest I'm usually on the couch watching Netflix gaming usually plugged in so it's not a deal breaker. I'm so excited for my aok a1 pro shipping soon I'm hopeful it's better😊. I really wish they used a normal m.2 drive instead of the 2230 the highest I've seen them go is 2 tb

    • @okestgamer
      @okestgamer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it still needs a little more polish haha. Are you playing in turbo mode while plugged in? Try to enable the performance overlay to see what TDP it’s pulling and what the temps are. I find they really prioritized the fans being quiet, but the temps are pretty high as a result. I adjusted my fan curve and dropped temps by like 25-30c
