    I've decided to tackle maintaining my Versys myself, as I'm tired of the inflated dealership costs to do routine maintenance. I'm mechanically stupid, but your videos make it took relatively easy. Let's hope I catch on quickly! Thanks for the videos!

      +sgtmac11 Thanks! I think the secret is that it normally IS relatively easy! Just the confidence to pull your pride and joy apart and a little common sense! I get great joy from knowing that i saw it all happen too! Good luck with yours.

    I've been spending several weekends toggling between my service manual, a Kaw parts supplier catalog and your great series of vids about the V; getting this rank amateur through the hoops... and I am eternally grateful. ONLY problem is: got into a scramble syphoning gas out of my tank because of some stateside EVAP equipment and additional lines not accounted for in your UK bike. Comedy ensues; not only did I learn about my coils, plugs, filter and removal of my tank and air box, but also learned the finer points of Faceful of Gas Fumes, Running Around Like Idiot Searching For Improv Gerry Cans, and Trying Not to Worry Your Nosy Neighbors and Look Like You Know What You're Doing Working With Combustible Materials.
    "No worries, Mrs Finkelton; yes, this IS a gas tank and NO, I am not trying to look worried or in a panicked scramble. That's just my... working style. Nope, all perfectly under control. That puddle over there? Neighbor's dog, dreadful, dreadful. Have a nice day, Mrs Finkelton."
    Again, heaps of praise for this endlessly informative and entertaining series. Should be getting paid for this, mate.

    Since, I bought my used Versys, 09 with 12000 and gave it a tune up, it rides a hundred percent better! Thanks, your videos helped alot. I'll probably, put another air filter in. The one I just put in had to much oil applied, didn't ring it out enough and didn't let it dry. Some oil was leaking out the bottom,frome somewhere after I just installed it. I bought a new High Flow filter and applied the oil correctly and let it dry. Now, I've seen about 3 mechanics saying, I don't need to put another air filter in...not to worry about it...bike runs and sounds good, etc. From what I've researched, an over oiled air filter can cause some problems. I most, likely will replace it with the new air filter that I correctly oiled. P.S. Also, had the suspension professionally adjusted. Handles so much, better! Good thing because I just road too Lake Elsinore, via Ortega Hwy. Roads like a roller coaster! Really, too much for my current ability.

      +Jeff M Very happy to have been of assistance!! Probably no harm in swapping the filters. Then prep the 'wet' one properly for the next service. Then you can just swap them over Quickly. That's what i used to do.

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andres. Thanks very much! You can wash the filter in ordinary dish soap. Afterwards you can oil it with specific air filter oil. Maybe check your manual for the exact stuff that Kawasaki recommends.

  • @islmhh
    @islmhh 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Whatever you do, don't forget to push the fuel line ALL the way onto the pump. I pushed it on and clicked the red fitting, but I failed to notice the line has to be pushed all the way over a little hump on the pump fitting, and then click the red fitting in place. I made it about 5 miles and then the bike quit running. I got it off the road and dismounted as the smell of gasoline started overwhelming my senses...and a large pool of gas was forming under the bike. Once turned off no more gas pumped out, but it was a mess. I had to take everything apart and lift the tank up. Sure enough the fuel line had come off. Pushed it on-ALL THE WAY ON-and clicked the little red fitting into place. No more problems.

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is an unfortunate tale. Sorry to hear it. Glad it didn't end in much worse disaster with fuel pouring over a hot engine! Good for folks to know the perils of not getting that connector all the way on!! Also annoying that you can ride just far enough away from home that it's a problem before it conks out!!

    Thanks for the video. I just got a 650 Versys with 6400 miles on it. What would be a general interval to replace the air filter assuming city driving conditions?

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a pretty shiny new versys! Mine had almost 10 times as many miles when i got it. Congrats on the splendiferous bike. Seeing as how the filter is a washable foam affair, i bought a spare and plan to wash and swap the filters yearly. For city riding I'd say that's plenty often enough.

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Of course you could just as easily just wash the one you have and replace it. Saves you money as you never need a new one. But with 2 there's no need to wait for it to dry before re-oiling and replacing.

    Hi Andy, good vid. Still haven't worked out what you do yet, despite your "subtle clues", obviously too cryptic for me !
    Must admire the "fresh air" mechanics though, you must be pretty handy with a spanner ? personally without a well illuminated heated garage it wouldn't be for me, a bit like outdoor sex, you have to be either very confident, or don't give a shit, I know what category I'd choose.
    How many nuts and bolts have gone astray in the long grass ?

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pre-oiled means it’s had oil applied before packing. It won’t be dripping wet, just a very light covering. You should be able to see a tiny bit of oil inside the plastic wrapper when you open it. If it’s not oiled, you can get some air filter oil or a K&N filter care kit and oil it yourself. Without oil, it won’t work quite as well.

    Sad face about the infill panel. I have to replace my infill panel on the Mistress as some nobbo painted it off-white.

      I echo your sad face. Very unhappy with myself about that. Ever considered vinyl wrapping your infill panel? I did it to the Fazer because of the horrible faded paintwork. Considering a little bit on the Versys.

      I bought new ones, they're only 4cmx3cm on the Street Triple so not an expensive mistake by the pillock who owned it before me.

      That's not so bad then. And you can experiment with the old ones. Maybe get them hydro - dipped in plaid or paisley?

      I'll tell the missus to pick up some tartan paint.

    Great, now I feel the urge to take my bike apart and clean every unnecessary part of it... Well at least it will probably only stay an urge since I already get frustrated lubing my chain... ;) (but too be fair, it would need it. I'm just lazy.)

      There ARE no unnecessary parts! ;P Have to admit though, I'd rather do this crap than lube my chain! Sorry for making you want to clean though. These vids made me wish I'd at least wiped a cloth over the cylinder heads while I was in there. They're so grotty and now I lie awake at night thinking about it !

      Andy Man Cam Scary! Guess I'll *never* (ever...ver...er..) take my bike apart to clean it! You can't see a ghost if you got your blanket over you head, right? ...Right?

      Kayne the Twat Bat Right! How do you think I've survived this long. It's not called a safety blanket for nothing!

    BEST ADVICE ; Spend more money and use a Kawasaki Air Filter, ONLY !
    (NOT Hi-Flo Brand),...
    and use K&N Oil Filters.
    (NOT Kawasaki Brand)

      I found the hiflo filter just fine. I have used a few k&n oil filters though.

      Throwing the Tools on the ground has become somewhat of a ritual!! 😂.

    Wow, what a fiasco! An air filter should be trivial to replace, in 5-10 minutes. Else, people don't do it as necessary. This is a bad design by engineers. Ps: that's what our lungs look like.
