Been watching all your videos on the Versys to get ideas for mods for mine, and ive got these grips and a booster plug coming in the mail now! I find your content delightful and greatly appreciate your thorough filming of these processes!
Oh boy, never thought I'd say it, but that looks like a great idea! When swapping grips before I'd use hairspray, lubricates for pushing them on, then as it drys it essentially glues them in place, but still easier to break free if needed. Nicely done B-)
I've relied on the hairspray before but find that here in northern Europe, where its always wetter than the front row at a Justin Bieber signing, the moisture gets in and makes the grips slippy again. I've never had too much issue with breaking the bond with super glue luckily. Thankfully superglue is actually a bit crap at sticking rubber to metal! :D

I did try hairspray a while ago, and the first time it rained i ended up with a slippery mess between the bars and the grips. The superglue is extreme, but it’s always been the best solution for me. No budging grips after over 2 years of use and then no real hardship with removing the grips and putting them on another bike. But different horses for different courses i suppose!

@@AndyManCam Yeah, my natural tendency is to bind wires tight. I gave it plenty of slack and it works perfectly. Great grips on my 2005 Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe. They get HOT!
@@AndyManCam The max setting is too hot to hold with bare hands. (I know the instructions say don't use bare handed and I always wear proper gloves) I've had to make too many stops to warm my hands, no matter what gloves I use. It's also a safety consideration IMO. Numb hands just don't react as fast.
I have two complaints about the grips which have stopped me from buying them so far. The ugly stuck out cable connections on the grips, and the rubber doesn't look as soft as on the grips I currently use.
I'm with you on the sticky out cable. I find it a bit obtrusive. With the softness, I'va had no problems and never felt that the grips were hard, but then that is entirely personal taste. Though I would argue that if the grips were any softer, they would wear out much faster and I'm not sure how easy it might be to change the grip rubber alone. Could mean entirely new grips, which would be annoying. I guess Oxford had to strike a balance between comfort and durability.

hey man, thanks for this video. I got a versys 2008 and I was wondering what to get for winter. question, is that a universal handguard or is it for this type of bikes?
+Victor Gil Thanks for watching Victor. The grips are still warming for the second season. The hands guards are just cheap universal ones from ebay. They wobble about a bit, but they keep the wind off just fine.
You would think just a simple built in switch on the actual grip would be simpler better looking and cheaper to produce, they may be good but I wouldn't buy them just because of the looks...
+Jonathan Meehan I agree. The setup is less than ideal. But it's all about the cost saving of modular manufacture. Every model, from cheap to expensive can have the same switch. Much cheaper than making individual assemblies for every type.
But surely a switch on the grip would do away with the control box? Maybe I'm missing something... Anyway I live in Thailand just now so heated grips are not top of my list. But love the versys...
+Jonathan Meehan It would do at with a control box, but instead of assembling 400 control boxes in the same way, with the same tooling for 4 different models if grip; You would have to make 4 different control box assembly lines, 4 different tooling variations and likely have slightly different parts. Cost would go up exponentially. Not to mention when something goes wrong with the control box, oxford give you a new control box. Cost : 5€. If it's integrated, they Replace the whole thing. Cost 50€. They could do it, and make it look and work lovely. But we wouldn't be able to afford to buy it!
Johnathan Meehan totally agree .Keis/AME and Koso do exactly that- have built-in switches, but are quite expensive and not that available here in the UK. So I too have bought these grips for my vstrom. Also, Andy Man Cam is right (IMHO) about the cables coming out of the grips that they should be reversed.-i.e coming out of the bottom.
That's what you would say! Though they probably wouldn't have been changed if there was BS in there. Sticks like hot nutella to a deep pile carpet, so I've heard.
Don’t be fooled by this. I tried putting these on a Honda cmx500 and the throttle side didn’t fit. Unless you have EXACTLY the correct size it will not fit. The grip has ZERO flexibility.
I think that’s more of an issue with the bars than the grips. I’ve fitted them on to 6 different sets of bars from six different brands and never had an issue. If the bars are painted or have any kind of coating, then they might be minutely too thick. You can either sand the coating off a bit to reduce the diameter, or maybe try turning on the Grip at maximum so that it heats up and expands.
@@diegeeleel No, obviously not. I’m saying that the grips fit the majority of bars so having some of the minority that are a tiny bit too big doesn’t mean that the grips are entirely at fault. Did you even try heating up the grips first? Or maybe using a little hairspray to lubricate the bars? Personally i would much rather have grips that are a tight fit and need a bit of effort to get on, than grips that will be forever prone to slipping about on the bars.

Cheers mate. Happy fitting, and enjoy your toasty fingers!
As the cheerleader said to her prom date pop the seal but try not to get sticky stuff everywhere 🤣
I have no idea where it comes from!
No badger shit?? I promise I didn't shit on your bars!
That's what you would say! Though they probably wouldn't have been changed if there was BS in there. Sticks like hot nutella to a deep pile carpet, so I've heard.
Mir ist schwindelig vom Zusehen....
Tut mir leid. Ich war schwer betrunken...
@@AndyManCam so what are you suggesting? We need to replace the handlebars to suit the grips??
@@diegeeleel No, obviously not. I’m saying that the grips fit the majority of bars so having some of the minority that are a tiny bit too big doesn’t mean that the grips are entirely at fault. Did you even try heating up the grips first? Or maybe using a little hairspray to lubricate the bars? Personally i would much rather have grips that are a tight fit and need a bit of effort to get on, than grips that will be forever prone to slipping about on the bars.
@@AndyManCam what are you talking about?
@@diegeeleel Don’t worry about it. Bars good, grips baaaad.
Nice nose
Thanks. I've been working out.
wow, totally wrong lol
Why exactly? You don’t get away with just saying ‚wrong‘ without backing up your opinion.
