As a woman I agree, my friends and I find men much more attractive when they're being themselves. All through highschool, there was this one group of boys who would always get in trouble, always vape and overall they just weren't being who they truly are. That group of boys always hated women and called them weak and pathetic. Needless to say, only one of the twelve guys ever got a girlfriend in high school. Even then, the girl that he dated was depressed and addicted, she probably just dated him because she had a deep void in her life and she probably believed the only way to fill it was to get with a guy, any guy. For the other guys, the ones who were genuine and true to themselves, they were the ones who got the girls.

yes it really just boils down to being honest for me. if they are honest with themselves and can live in it and still show growth, then i feel i can do the same around them. if someone puts up an act, its gonna start a mindgame that leads to feeling judged or malplaced. if someone is supposed to be a potential love interest, they need to be able to make you feel relaxed and grounded, not play mindgames with you. i wouldnt say its necessarily about confidence versus insecurity. im not super confident myself. if someone is insecure, it can still be attractive if they are open about it and express it. honesty is the real thing

EDIT: i think this is my first time having more than 1000 likes.. thanks guys.
EDIT 2: guys if you get offered a vape, even if it's tempting, don't take a hit because it won't be worth the addiction (although you may not gain an addiction from just one, its just not worth it). If you ever see someone vaping, don't tell on them because if they find out it was you that told on them they won't be very happy about that. So instead, let them do it, There choice.

I almost see myself in the position you talked abt, in year 7 i started to notice how ppl in my friend group started acting like gangster, they were hitting vapes, hitting on girls and started not caring about school. I wanted to have friends so badly and forced myself to become like them. But instead of them liking me, they started hating me. I was pushed around, been seen differently and they were talking shit about me. So i try to find a new friend, and it was a girl, i trusted her so much and actually thought she did aswell. But she did not, she chose to go to the friend group and spread lies about me, and then no one even wanted to talk to me. For 6 months i cried myself to sleep, anxiety all the time and became insecure and silent. When the school year was finished i went to my mom, told her everything and we changed school. Ever since then ive meet great ppl i can be myself around, but ever since year 7 i couldnt stop being insecure and silent, it really impacted my life but fortunately i got a happy ending which many don’t and to this day i am grateful for that.

Coming from a girl: if she doesn't like you for your true self, she isn't worth it. Personally, my past crushes have been people who are friendly and look like they take care of themselves; meaning you don't have to be insanely good-looking for a girl to like you. So to guys trying to pull a girl, just be nice and take care of yourself.

Healthy, clean hair in a style that suits you does wonders as well (and you don't need to buy a bunch of hair products, either).
Also, taking care of your body by eating (mostly) healthy, and taking care of yourself mentally is important because it will reflect in your confidence and social skills.

Someone who loves you for your genuine self or someone who loves the version of you you’ve put up to hide your insecurities and true self? I went through the exact same situation as a middle schooler. I absolutely envied the popular kids, wanted to be in their group so that I could feel included. I even knew the group leader from a previous school in around 1st or 2nd grade, before he was transfered to the catholic school I later also attended. I tried to fit in with them, and wanted to be like them, but I was always excluded. Not by being told no, but more or less they'd just look at me with a plain face, then simply ignore me, like I was being shunned. It was phychological tortue. I'm lucky I didn't end up with any sort of depression or mental issue by the time I graduated. What that whole experience, from the moment I stepped foot in that school to the moment I left, was that no matter how poorly you're treated by your peers in such a desparate community, you should always stand your ground and push through. School is a horrific mental battlefield of social heirarchy and soured mentalities, only defeated by those who see through nonsensical claims that "if you aren't part of a group, you're no one".

I'm one of these "eshays" here there is a lil secret: even tho their talking to a lot of people it's hard to make very close relationships, not impossible but hard.
I do have very close friends but it was difficult doing that.
The advantage is that there is a friend for everything, whenever I need to just chill & laugh I have a group of boys I train with, whenever I need emotional suppot I have like 3-8 females I can talk to.
Whenever I need to gossip about boys I have a different group of females...

You are absolutely one of the best people I have seen videos of. You are the best motivational person ever. The deep trench I was falling into with the popular friend group seemed like something decent to do, but then i switched groups and realized that this mob mentality that these people were getting was going to be really bad. I still sometimes go into t he friend group, but I won’t be a full member and do anything they tell me to do for respect, I would just be an ally and a friend with the group form now on, thanks to this video. It looks like I dodged a whole bomb here. I realized that I was putting a mental mask on and hiding my true self for respect and attention. It was stupid and I’m glad I saved myself. Jak I know you may never see this, but today I was at school with that one group of "gangster" kids in my class (Im year 8, going to secondary because I got accepted sooner) and I never noticed this one thing before this video: this whole year I was trying to be like them. All year have I spent analyzing their behavioral patterns and getting to know how they joke and etc. Today I spent my first day talking to them, they laughed at my dirty jokes, they started listening to me, I swore and much more. I let down my one real friend that I made fun of today. They laughed at my jokes about him and I felt somewhat comfort but deep down I knew something was wrong. I hope I didn't break our bond. I will try to act on your advice and be a better person through improvement. I have no idea how this video got to me (propably chinese spies) but I am truly greateful that it did. Thx

I'm 18 doing my last exams and leaving lower school forever :)
being autistic, I've always felt any interaction that I've had with others at my school has never felt right; I don't really have a real self and even others have commented that I don't really have that much of a personality. In some ways this can be seen as positive, I've never been able to fake myself to make other people like me like in this video, but I've never really felt like my true self either. To improve myself I would probably have to get over my fear of people but that is hard and it won't make me normal. I'm hoping that university goes better for me but I do not have high expectations, it's hard to stay optimistic when you have to physically write down points sometimes for it to get across to other people the way you want it to with no misunderstanding. At least I get to study something that I enjoy (forensic science) and maybe I'll learn how to interact properly around others.

I'm 20 now, and when I think back to my younger years, this definitely resonates with me on a deep level. I've been that fake, arrogant person. I've tried being at the center of attention, and I seemed to come alive in it.. yet it was all fake. People flocked to me, and yet I was pure controversy, you either loved me or hated me, and if you hated me, I had given you every reason to do so, and if you loved me, I had given you every reason to love me, yet for most everyone, it was fake. At heart, I wasn't who I was pretending to be, and when I realized that, it changed me... This wasn't as instant a process as I make it sound here, but overtime a new found peace and calmness came around me, because... I didn't have to try to fake who I was. It was okay to be the quiet kid, the one who didn't get all the attention. though it was hard to exit the relative popularity, I've come to a point where I don't miss it. I've found who I am, and I can bask in a confidence I never before knew because of that, because of the fact that I love myself, and I'm comfortable in my own skin, if you will. I only wish I had heard your advice before I had begun to wear that fake persona... only that I don't know that it would have done me any good, because before having experienced it, I might not have understood it as I do now. Thanks Jak, as always, a wonderful video. I absolutely love your content, I know your just a kid,as am I but you're a very wise one, beyond your years. I believe everyone has a purpose, given to them by God. At any one time, our purposes are always changing, and we may or may not know what are purpose is.. however, if anyone has ever had a purpose, I believe you've found one of yours, because this kind of content definitely helps a lot of people. Well, I know I've rambled on far too long, so please, forgive me for that... much respect, best wishes and God bless you.

I can relate to this pretty deeply, i've had identity issues for as long as i can remember. I didn't hold any of the "friendships" i had from school, can't really call them friendships looking back to it. But it has been bothering me, that if i even put in enough effort to be considered as a friend, and now that i'm in my 20's i don't really know how to socialize anymore. And to add on top of that, i've gotten really paranoid about other peoples intentions and constantly think that are they just using me for something they want. Now i'm just trying to achieve my own goals i guess, it is lonely and all, but at least i have a chance of being truly okay with myself. I don't want to depend on outside validation anymore.

I had a very similar story to yours Jak.
My mid years of elementary school (K-5) I made friends with a group I wanted to be a lot like, i never had a lot of friends growing up so I changed my entire identity and started seeking for attention to hopefully attract some girls and potentially make some friends for once in my life. I did this from 3rd grade up until the beginning of 7th grade where they dumped me completely on the first day of school. Since it was lunch time, they found a group of friends over the summer and I stopped hanging out with those kids, I tried to make friends with the kids but I just got bullied by them. I genuinely had 0 friends.
I decided to try and fit in with the popular kids over the course of the year but that never really worked out since the popular kids in my school was a big group of kid and they were all super close, I felt completely left out. I forgot to mention that i was a big kid in 7th grade (5’7, 180 pounds) so I was picked on a lot and I disapeared over the summer. I tried it again next year by joining football just to get harassed by the other kids into suicidal thoughts. I was extremely weak and didn’t know how to handle social pressure.
Thankfully, I got talked out of suicide and started to make a change for the better. I started working out, changing my personality, and genuinely being myself. By my 9th grade year, I walked in with no friends and came out with a huge group of friends from the popular group all because of a simple change in my mindset.

hey man, I've been struggling a lot with my personality, I was told that I didn't have one. I'd always just talk like my friends copy them be like them because I thought they were cool. Not because they bullied me into it or anything I just thought that's how I would interact with them. It got to a point where I couldn't be myself even if I tried and it got anyone to them so they cut me off. I stopped talking to them for 6 months and found another friend to start talking to, eventually I got caught back in the loop of just accidentally acting like them and not trying to say what I wanna say and instead just started agreeing with him on everything. I tried to stop but at that point I don't know that I could find where or who I was, I was so disassociated with my self that the only thing I knew how to do was copy what they did. Fast forward to now and not much has changed, The old group of friends came back to talk because at that point I hadn't seen them in a year and a half. They apologized for blocking me and whatever but that's not the point. My question to you is, how do I break this cycle? How do I become someone that is a someone? How do I stop and think about what I've done and turn that into how I talk how I walk and how I think?

Ty jak for this video, I am a gay guy in high-school and when I wear clothing that makes me seem to be gay, the guys in my school make fun of me, legit if I just wore the plainest pink shirt on the planet they would alr think I am gay, but honestly it never really stopped me from wearing more pink clothes to school, and I just kept being myself and even if I never end up getting a boy-friend in high-school or just in life, I can at least say I am showing my true self and I am never going to start changing myself for others to just not bully me anymore. And what you said about girls is very true, a lot of my friends who are females have the twinkle in their eye when they are talking to me(and by that I mean they are not talking to me because I am their friend, but because they are attracted to me even though I know that sounds arrogant in a way lol), so to all the boys and girls even that are watching this video...just know to never change who you really are just to get some fame that is only going to last you for 4 years of high-school(if you go to high-school and live in America that is). I want to improve my body image because it would really help me feel more confident even when wearing "gay" clothing. Please share more videos like this jak

I used to change myself every day, trying to figure out how to get people to like me just so that i could have friends, after many years of doing this i felt like i was so busy trying to be who i wasn't that i forgot who i actually was. Thats when i gave up completely, i thought friendship and let alone relationships weren't meant for me. So i was mindblown, and still am of the people i met after, i had given completely up but then i went to a new school where almost everyone had the same intrests as me and for the first time they wanted to be friends with me. We became friends and 4 years later at the end of our school we still are. Some of my friends have struggled with stuff like this aswell and i remember saying to one of them, don't ever change who you are just try to find the people with the same intrests as you and who care about you for who you are, if you feel the need to change who you are for them then i hate to break it to you but they are not your real friends, don't waste your energy on them, don't make the mistake i made. I sometimes still have that tendency to impress or 'be part of it' and i am trying to teach myself to stop doing that but it's not easy and sometimes i feel like i still messed up but that's part of learning to be myself again. Please don't be someone you're not, learning and developing is great but don't forget to love yourself in the process.

I was bullied badly in my school(even got beaten up so many times for defending myself)..but things became better for me after that lockdown period(2020-2021)..when I gained some confidence by the means of self introspection.

What kind of morons need to bully another kid? What are they missing that they indulge in that behaviour? Introspection and knowing myself on a deeper level helped me feel more confident. Glad you found something similar!

whenever I have asked them ,why did they do these kinds of behaviour..their only answer is "bro , it was just a joke,, we were having fun and blah blah blah"..ig the reality is they love to target inconfident weak individuals for fun..but what they don't really understand is..that individual might get the trauma for his lifetime.

putting up a mask to fit in with a group that doesn't actually respect you is something i resonate with a lot. when i was in high school, the pandemic was still prevalent and i had distanced myself from most people because of it and other reasons too. long story short, by grade 11 i wanted to change and i started trying to go out and make connections with people. there was a cool kid clique that i really wanted to be a part of because i thought of it as a way to prove that i had improved my social life (also my crush was in it). i soon changed my attitude, language, and even music tastes to try and fit in with them. after over half a year's efforts, i was in the group but only as a side character. no one really ever wanted to talk to me one-and-one and whenever i tried to talk to people they would either ignore me or try and wrap up the conversation quickly. only after being fed up with it and taking off my mask did i find a true friend group that cared about me. and the funny thing is they were in contact with me all along but i ended up sidelining them in favour of people who didnt give a shit about me...

I feel like i’m being my true self and I’m confident in it. And I honestly would say that i look pretty good. But I don’t think that any girl is that attracted to me, do I just need to wait? And btw, I can’t tell how many times you have saved my day from just being a lay-in-bed-all-day-and-scroll-on-tiktok-day Jak. You give me motivation like crazy for actually doing something with my life and every time I get stuck scrolling, your videos, no matter the purpose, always makes me do what I’m supposed to do. I am happy that I wasn't at that stage of my High School years where I was very desperate to become friends with the popular kids in our batch because I couldn't see myself as a kid who can handle and manage 10-20 people as friends, I couldn't see myself being left out from a conversation that we just had about something else because 5 other people suddenly are talking at once at each other about their girlfriends...
I also couldn't handle how I used to act to the cool kids when I was in my first 2 years of High School. I was a pretty sensitive kid who couldn't handle jokes made about me let alone someone verbally bully me and I think that it wasn't because of any prior insecurities that I had but because it was the biggest negative trait of who I really am which is being generally over-sensitive in multiple aspects as a person.
I do believe that becoming your true self is pretty nice but when it comes to the stuff that could majorly affect you as a person in a negative way... I believe that there should be a way to not remove but limit that natural trait. I then incorporated that throughout the last 2 years of high school and I was definitely having better conversations with other people in my school.
Feel free to suggest what I could have probably done differently in the replies :)

Rejecting vape was really very smart, like distancing yourself from that group. I wish I had done it too. A hit of vape, 2, 5, 10, eventually becomes constant a few days a week, then it becomes every day, then it becomes cigarettes and if with bad company even drugs... It's really easy to lose sight of this type of addictions, you don't even realize it. Great video man and great decisions I respect you

I went through pretty much the same thing, but a bit more extreme in terms of where I ended up. I found myself in that area where my old friends lost respect for me (rightfully so) or so it seemed because of the people I'd hangout with and how I'd act around them and of course the "bad influence" group I hung out with I was longer cool with because it was more than I bargained for. I didn't really know who I really was anymore and lost my sense of what my own interests and goals were. I fell out of pretty much every friend group I was a part of because none of them really got along with one another. I tried to be the person to bring everyone together and get along with everyone, but I learned that some people just can't get along. I'm still kind of stuck in the "idk what to do now" phase, but at least I'm not doing shit I don't want to do I guess?
