    My four-
    Victorinox Swisstool Spirit X
    Leatherman Wave
    Leatherman Wingman (Modified)*
    Leatherman Style
*I modified the Wingman, adding the straight blade (replacing the partially serrated blade) and the serrated knife (replacing the package opener) from the Sidekick. I use the scissors more often than a saw.

I like a multi-tool that allows me to fix the copier at work in the mornings, and maybe tactically knife fight punks in the evenings. The pliers are handy for titty twisters and moderate infliction of pain once said punk is down. Occasionally I may clip their toe nails if they are remorseful.

Nice segment... I've always have a love vs. dissatisfaction outlook on multi-tools. I especially liked you sharing how these models differed in deploying the various tool's components. The 'why' behind some of your preferences === made good sense.

Thanks for informing us about this useful range of tools. My son has long-carried a full-size multi-tool. I learned a lot more when Zach Fowler wisely included a self-modified multi-tool in his challenge to win 'Alone 3.' As a backpacker prior to the multi-tool era, I understood the value of pliers that could also 'wrench' nuts as needed and serve as pot-lifters. For light camping, these tools can save a lot of weight and volume and bring a lot of functionality along.

I've had the rebar for the last three years. I work in a Lumber yard and I've used each tool except the awl. At least npt for its intended purpose. I've used it to pull out staples saw wood down to size and even the screw drivers. hasn't let me down yet. best multi tool I have. I might pick up the squirter I need a new replacement knife for my keys. that's about the right size as well. thanks for the review.

Most cruise lines (carnival Corp, etc) allow knives up to 4 inches to be brought onboard. And if youre a diver and have a dive knife that's larger you can check it with the purser and they will let you have it when you leave the ship for your diving excursion, just an FYI. I have the Rebar and absolutely love it. I really enjoy watching your videos BTW, keep up the good work!

I have the leatherman wingman which I misplaced for a few months, ordered a Rebar, and like 2 days before the rebar arrived I found the damn wingman, but I dont regret getting the rebar, has lived up the everything I've had to use it for like cutting Cyclone Fence(I was fixing my fence and then my neighbors fence by that time) I probably use it the most when I'm doing yard work, cutting the trimmer line and detangling when it gets jammed up from all the creeper vines that never cease to exist. Its definitely my fav EDC multi-tool. The wingman now resides in a kitchen drawer alongside other "emergency" tools.

The Sidekick is my #1 favorite edc multitool. The weight, size, tools and price are all amazing. I have carried one on me at work every single day for the last 2 years, and i use it multiple times a day. I would take it over a wave any day as an edc.

In my opinion, the four multi-tools I recommend is one of each categories: keychain-size, pocket-size, full-size, and heavy-duty. The different size categories allow for maximum flexibility and capabilities in use for a wide spectrum of situations, depending on the tool you use. I prefer a multi-tool that embodies a pocket tool chest with the most capabilities, so my four will be the Leatherman Squirt PS4, Juice Xe6, Charge TTi, and Surge.

I have one of the original Gerber slide out MT's & it's 20+ years old and still awesome with that same saw option. I like my Sidekick (in a belt pouch) better than my Wingman too, but I removed the pocket clip (it wouldn't tighten up and had play), I have a Gerber Suspension in my bunker gear and a new Diesel that I haven't used much yet. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for your review. I share almost all of your views. I have a Wingman since I like scissors, and I have the Rebar which is my most favorite tool. I have the squirt on my keychain too. I have a surge for heavy work and a Dime travel for bladeleas environment. I am considering getting a heavier duty bladeless tool. how do you compare MP600 bladeless to SOG traveler? I am considering either one of them. By the way, is the blade exchanger on the MP600 bladeless a T shank one?

As my larger tools all have pliers my keyring tool is always the Micro over the Squirt.
I find that fold out scissors are always pants though I have never tried Letherman ones.
I want full sprung decent scissors on at least one of my tools and the keyring makes sense as I can go to my bag for heavy duty.

Good video as always...have you ever had a look at the the Ganzo G302B? Chinese made multi-tool...screwdriver bit's changeable wire cutters...looks well made, though I don't own one. Only thing people talk badly about it is the exposed spring, but to me...if you lose the spring, the tool still works just as good...just doesn't spring open...which a lot of multi-tools don't have anyway. All the tools lock open...and the bit system works with normal bits without having to buy an adaptor. And the bit kit comes with it for under $45 USD with free shipping from gearbest. Has awl with threading hole, straight blade knife, serrated blade knife, saw, can opener, bottle opener, wire stripper, scissors, small slotted screwdriver, wire cutter, needle nose and regular pliers, lanyard hole, 11 bits and bit adaptor, and a pretty descent semi solid belt pouch that looks better than the gerber and leatherman pouches that come with....and the best part, under $38 USD. check it out here: www.gearbest.com/survival-emergency-gear/pp_67303.html , but if you get one, get it here, as it's about $7.50 cheaper...

For past 5-6 years i've carried between the leatherman squirt p4 and the rev. Usually the rev. Looks like the rev is very similar to the sidekick. 5.9oz vs the 7 oz sidekick, but the sidekick has that extra outer saw and the rev has the inner package opener vs the short serrated blade on the sidekick. That's the only thing i wish the rev had is some serrated blade for rope cutting. But I do love the rev's outer non serrated blade and its low weight. I also have a supertool and a surge that I keep in vehicles.

Have you ever tried the victronox swisstool? I have had one for over 15 years, closer to 20, and have never had an issue, using almost every day, except for the nylon sheath, it ripped and I replaced with a leather one, and very happy. It has great tools, I recommend it as an EDC. Thanks for your great reviews, I plan to get the HK/Benchmade 9.5 inch blade you just reviewed, and will try the rebar from leather an for a backup tool. Thanks.

I have a LM Wingman, LM Wave (added Clip) and a Victorinox Spirit.
The Swiss Made Spirit has BY FAR the best quality and attention to detail. At the Spirit I like that all tools are available from the outside - though two handed.
On the LM I like the clips and one handed accessibility of some of the tools. Though I don't like that you have to oben the tool to get some of the other tools.
    All of them are valuable.
If you don't have the Vic Spirit I recommend trying it out.

What would be for you the best MT combo? I tried the Squirt P4/Victorinox climber for light duty MT, and the Juice CS4/ Micra for a more medium duty combo. If you wear glasses and you need a small flathead, you like outdoors camping and bushcraft, you want an awl and a saw and a pair of good scissors and some tweezers thrown in, and you want it all to be lightweight and versatile then I know the perfect combo.....
    LEATHERMAN REBAR + LEATHERMAN MICRA
These 2 multi tools when used together are awesome, they are both good for different tasks and the weight is still kept at a minimal. (SAW - BLADE - SERRATED BLADE - MINI BLADE - FILE - FLATHEADS micro, small, medium, large - 3D PHILLIPS DRIVER - AWL/REAMER - SCISSORS - TWEEZERS - BOTTLE OPENER - CAN OPENER - LANYARD RINGS - PLIERS WITH REPLACEABLE TEETH - RULERS - NAIL FILE AND CLEANER)

Good choice, but I would pick Micra or Style CS as a key chain tool. Gerber is awesome. Good to keep it in your car tougher with some Victorinox 111mm, such as Forester or Fireman. Thanks for video.

  • @kracin
    @kracin 8 ปีที่แล้ว

top 4 you recommend... mp600 with removable carbide cutters... "you can rotate them if they warp or dull"....
never used this one have you... admit it, you maybe cut a piece of copper wire and that's it... those are carbide, they don't "warp" they shatter. and they shatter when cutting anything relatively the same softness as a coat hanger.
not that i don't like gerber, i've been carrying a multiplier for 10 years now, but when i sent in mine to get repaired, gerber sent me the newest model (military version since mine was one i got while in the navy) with the replaceable cutters, i felt the same way. hey look awesome carbide cutters! lets test them real quick...... some twisted .040 welding wire doubled up as tig wire........ boom, broken carbides, and then you let gerber know their product failed instantly and they throw out the "sorry that isn't covered in the tool warranty"..
so they replace the tool after 10 years of use no problem, but cutters fail after 1 cut and its not their problem? fun.

Thanks for the video. On the Gerber are the driver's made with sturdy metal? I have a sog and the small driver/can opener and I used in on a small screw that was barely screwed tight. I could almost twist it with my fingers but not quite. The tip snapped off. This was right after purchasing. I was pissed. I've had a couple of Leatherman and now have a Swiss tool. I don't have confidence in the Leatherman, SOG, Gerber driver tools as they all seem similar sheap metal that will easily snap. I like the wingman which is also steel that won't seem to break but bend just like the Swiss tool.
I have stayed away from Gerber because it seems the cheapest made.

I’ve literally broken the plier jaws off of three gerbers and will never carry another. One was issued and the other two I bought but sadly lost my money to cheap steel. Leatherman is what I’ve carried for two years (super tool and wave) and I’ve had good experiences with them. I carried the sog switch plier that I loved until I broke the auto assist. Still loving my wave after a year, though but I have medium hands.

I had the Gerber, it broke after about 8 months of heavy constriction use. Good tool.

I love the sidekick. It's been good to me. I still have the original issue Gerber. Still has dirt, rust and blood in it. Legendary tool that never failed me.

I have a few questions if I may. As you said in the video, if you're going to be cutting cardboard for hours why wouldn't you use a tool better suited for the job like a box cutter? Also, what do you mean when you say 3D Phillips head? Finally, what do you use the file for? I have a sak with a file and cant remember ever using it besides playing around with it. Thanks and God Bless

What do you think about Killamanjaro multi tools? I picked up the Ballast 2 to check it out. It's a beast

Thanks for the great advice on Mutitools. Just ordered the Sidekick and getting it free through my company rewards program. Sure glad I didn't waste my points on the Rev

I really wish Leatherman would design a more specific bushcrafting/carving multi tool. Thumbs up!

Could you do a review on the Victorinox Swisstool Spirit X? I would be very interested to hear your opinion on any of the swisstools really.
