  • 15 Knife Brands: Fallkniven, Benchmade, Gerber, Victorinox, Kershaw, Cold Steel, Kizer, CRKT Fossil, Leatherman Skeletool, Milwaukee, DeWalt, COAST, Kingmax, Vulcan, Master USA. Folding Knives (pocket knives) compared for initial sharpness, blade lock release pressure, corrosion resistance, and blade tip durability. Knives were then sharpened using the same sharpening system, then compared for blade edge durability. Finally, we look at a knife that's been in use for over 65 years. I purchased all of the every day carry (EDC) knives to ensure unbiased test reviews. So, thank you for supporting the channel!

@@ProjectFarm Something that's been on my mind for while. During comparative tests like this, you could put the previous graph bars over the new graph bars for quick reference to the number being compared. Like the first sharpness number in red graph bar, and new sharpness number in blue bar. That way the final graph would be easy to read at a glance. To show before and afters.

My grandpa lived from 1937-2022 and served in the Marine Corps. He had quite a few Case knives and we would use them hunting and fishing together. I remember all of them being well worn and looking the same way as Mr. Smith's. Sharpened and used many times. Because of that, I have two Case knives I rotate, those being a yellow Stockman, as well as a yellow Trapper. Just thought I'd share. Mr. Smith reminded me of my grandpa. He was and is my hero. Yep Robert is right. Brand new, those specific Milwaukee knives open by them selves if you just hold them down. Upside down the blade will fall out, and if you just hold it straight down the knife is supposed to open and lock on its own after pressing the button and releasing it. They are called “Fastbacks”.love those things. But get concrete in them your f$cked.

As a "Knife Guy" for most of my life. And as a mildly serious collector I really enjoyed this test. Especially the last part, with the Green Beret veteran! The side to side pressure test, in most cases seemed to favor the knives that use washers as opposed to bearings on the pivot point. While I do have a few well made edc pocket knives made in China, I do favor the utility and overall strength of the Benchmade, Cold Steel, and Fallkniven. Once Again another Great Video!

The Milwaukee Fastback’s button releases the blade and you’re meant to then “flick” it out. Takes a few tries to get used to but it does work well. I use the utility-blade version of the Fastback and it uses the same mechanism.

I'm not sure about that. Milwaukee also has a Fastback-branded knife, which has the fastback-style lock instead of this liner lock. This one seems way too stiff to flick open.

You know... I realize how invaluable you and your channel is to me. I have been using your tests now for a couple years since I found you and due to your tests I have bought some amazing products I would never have known about. I want to say thank you for everything you do here. In a world of cheap crap out on the market priced so high I feel your channel is probably my (and probably others) most important TH-cam subscription. Here is a little story from a little while back...
So I was looking to buy gloves and a bunch of other stuff from Depot (Home Depot) and remember seeing a test you done but, I had forgotten the results. As I was looking over the glove rack trying to find what I thought might be the best glove for the job I was doing at the time a Depot employee came to me and asked if I needed any help. First I had to get over the shock of a Depot employee actually attempting to help a customer, as here in southern California that type of thing is a VERY rare experience. After I got over the shock of being helped in a Depot I asked the question "What do you think is the best glove here?" So he pulled out his phone and right away I recognized what was on is screen. It was the results of one of your glove tests. This dude actually took screen shots of your video to use as a tool to choose the best products for himself as well as for helping customers. Turning a long story shorter, I ended up buying some gloves and by the end of the job was the only one who didn't wear holes through the fingertips.
Hat's off to the employee of Home Depot in North San Bernardino who took the time to do that and for helping customers without them having to chase you down for 20 minutes!!!!

Many blades now days are made in China (which many associate with mass production/low quality) but most blades now days are some version of stainless steel, since you collect Case, how do you rate the older vs the newer? The reason I ask is I have a much older Cold Steel that was made in Japan vs a newer Cold Steel made in China could tell the blade steel quality has taken a hit over time (could also say similarly with one of my Gerbers as well).

Great test, Project Farm! I carried Buck lockback folders for most of my career, but I started carrying a Benchmade Vector just before I retired. The Vector is a much better tool than my many Bucks, but I don't think I would've abused it to get the job done.

The Milwaukee is a fast back action. You press in the button with your thumb and flick it open with your wrist. Easy to do with one hand and kind is a fidget toy cause you can snap it back closed with one hand.

Kershaw has always been my favorite brand. The speedsafe is awesome and is the easiest and smoothest knife to open. I have a kershaw launch auto knife that's amazing. Insanely sharp. Even my 20$ Kershaw knives are almost as sharp as the more expensive Kershaw ones. I have probably 15 and haven't sharpened one of them and they still cut real well

Kershaw knives are very good in their price range. I have a Kershaw cryo, Skyline, leek, crown, and a few I'm forgetting. These are all older models, for a reason. I have broken the tips off of 2 Kershaws, and have not purchased a new one for almost 7 years.
I'm still on my original benchmade, no problems, ultra reliable, holds an edge, lightweight. It has been my EDC for 4 years consecutive. If i ever need another knife, it will be a benchmade.

I have carried $20 Kershaw's for years I have never broken a blade tip and I use mine many times a day, I rarely ever have to sharpen either. The opening test was the only one I had an issue with, as you can't show opening force using the wrong opening method for a knife. The correct way to open a knife with a flipper is with the flipper, and Kershaw's are effortless.

I have owned Kershaw for decades and will never have another knife. Your assessment of the tip is quite accurate as several of my Kershaw's are sans tip, but after fixing that, they remain some of the most sturdy and sharp knives I have ever possessed.

    Very informative as always!
I found a battered milwaukee between my barn boards, sharpened it up and it's always been in my backpack since. On the note of one handed opening, it opens very nicely with just a small flick of the wrist, even my younger siblings could work it that way. The steel is soft though, I have to sharpen it more often than my other knives but it just feels so comfortable in the hand so i keep it around. After 4-5 years of use and sharpening the blade has gotten a lot smaller, didn't even notice it before i saw a new one here haha, must have taken close to 7-8mm off the blade in that time.
    Thank you for your work!

Blade Geometry is one of the most important factors in edge retention. I believe you should first sharpen all the knives to the same angle, and then perform the bamboo test and recheck sharpness. This way a blade that was sharpened at 15 degrees wont seem to "dull" much more than a blade sharpened at 25 degrees out of box. Could influence the numbers quite a bit.

Love the reviews! One suggestion for reviewing - Multitools. The ones like the Leatherman Skeletool CX, the Wingman, offerings from Gerber etc. DeWalt are also doing a multitool at a much cheaper price point. Knowing what you're getting for the money and if the more expensive ones offer better value/longevity would be super interesting.

When I was active duty I always received a new multi tool every time I got to a new unit, always either a Gerber or a Leatherman. As such I accumulated quite a collection over the 27 years I was in, and the major factor of which one I carried came down to two things, first the Gerber always had the better pliers (square jaw) v. the pointed nose pliers of the Leatherman. And second, the Gerber you could sling out the pliers with a flip of the wrist v. the Leatherman, which had to be opened in the old skool fashion. Having said that, the one I carried for all those years was the Leatherman, because the Gerber would pinch the crap outta your palm on a regular basis due to the handle design, and it hurt a LOT, whereas the Leatherman would not.
