This brought me back to the days of buying inexpensive, neglected bikes to use as a daily. It's amazing what routine maintenance will do to turn a death trap into a canyon carving warm hug giving friend.
I always use hair spray to put grips on it makes them slide on really easy and then when it dries it stays where it is meant to. Also Gixer riders can use the rest of the can on their hair.
@@justinberger2456 Not everyone has a compressor, hair spray or brake cleaner (which I use) keeps the surfaces wet just long enough to get the grip on quickly and sticks solid when it evaporates, no need for glue or ties either. You can use brake cleaner or WD-40 to get old grips off quickly too, obviously with WD-40 you need to clean off the oil residue left behind before fitting the new grips.
No you all got it wrong. He used motul bottle just to measure the old used oil capacity. You can see he didn't even mention about putting new engine oil into it.
Daily Gixxer rider here, love the jokes about gixxer bros! Keep them coming - and these bikes are quintessence of quite cheap yet reliable (if maintenance window wasn't neglected) machines. Yes, they do lack many driving nannies, yes they try to kill you on each corner but all in all it's really rewarding when you can push it to it's limits once you figure it out.
Used to daily a Gixxer, great bikes tbh. Kind of terrible for 1.5 to 2 hours per day of almost stopped rush hour traffic. (as most sport bikes are) I wish I had kept it for weekend riding.
Suzuki's are indestructable. This shows, that it doesn't matter how neglected they are, they will keep up until their last breath. My first bike was a GSF650, I have used it for a year in worst shape then this. At the end, the transmission just fell apart due to the abuse and the lack of clutch. To save my reputation, I was a newbie at the time, had no biker friends and got a bad mechanic back then.
No kidding. Uses it "everyday" but can't find time to get it fixed up besides three days during the week so a TH-camr can do it for free. He's asking for trouble.
I just bought a 2003 Honda VFR800 Interceptor and it was poorly neglected. I'm in the process of doing exactly what you are doing to bring her back to life. Took me 6 hours just to get the bike clean!
Adjust that rear suspension height by loosening one lock nut, taking off one of the ball joints off and rotating that then retightening the locknut once reassembled. Just like alot of gear shifter linkages need to be adjusted.
Could you please do a video on which tools we would need to do most things on our bikes? Like what the tools would be used for, and just in general about the quality of tools and what brands to choose? That would be awesome!! :D
Its always more fun to work on someone else's machine. No fuss, no worries, and your own bike to hop on and go. I like your recent maintenance and rebuild videos. Garage life is a huge part of being a petrolhead.
@@loftyintentions1985 you're not alone. Mine is stock standard too. I just have a clear double bubble screen, a K@N filter and a pipe. nice work. but you can change the lenght of those rods. take that link out on the left (or right) side, adjust it. support the bike so you can swap out the right (or left) link, adjust that one and put that one back on the other side. they have a limited amount of adjustment and remember, keep 1,5x the diameter turned in or it might brake.

Being a new rider of a KTM Duke 390. I like your vids.. You doing a great Job educating everyone and you are really entertaining. Where can we get Bagoros parts locally or do they ship to SA?.
Excellent video. Brake calipers give me anxiety. I've done seals and new brake pistons before but it's always stressful. Did I do it right? Is a seal going to fail? Turns out that it's all good. Two years later.... You did great work on those gixer brakes. Top job.
You could have just lifted up the back of the bike up with a jack and removed that linkage. Then taken off the rod end on one side and cut the thread off to desired length and then wind the end back on and refit. Those bits make it adjustable.
Damn someone messed up big time, trying to change some colours. The only things i got painted on my gixxer blue/ white where change my rims from black to white like the gixxers from the 90s. But it's nice when you know what you are doing. After 21 years i still ride it sinds it whas new.

Hello, where did you get the cable sealing tool for the cable clean... That tool is new to me and it looks quite handy since i always just get wd40 all over my bike trying to clean the clutch/gas cable
great video once again, and it gets you to work on different bikes an learn about them. but now we adress the elephant in the room ... Your gloves man xD what happened to them😅
Thanks for another great video. A question though, what product (or combination of products) do you use to degrease the chain and the wheels? I'm still a bit of a newbie when it comes to riding and maintenance but I've been using that Motorex chain cleaner stuff on my chain (I like to think I use quite a generous amount) and then let it sit for a few minutes before I wash my bike. Problem is the chain cleaner doesn't seem to get enough of the gunk off and when drying off my bike after the wash there still seems to be a fair amount of gunk left on the chain (as my drying cloth will attest). Is a fair amount of residue normal or am I doing something wrong? Maybe I'm not applying enough chain cleaner?
pro tip: now that you have a kuif and a gixxer (even for 72 hours), you obviously have some hairspray too. Spray the throttle tube and inside of grip with hairspray, then just slide it on. The hairspray is slippery when wet (oooeeeer!!!) but dries like glue, as we can all see by your anti-gravity hair. (jokes aside..hairspray also works, and quite well...for hair and grips)
