  • Two-time MotoGP champion Casey Stoner rates 10 motorcycle scenes in movies for realism. Stoner was the MotoGP world champion in 2007 and 2011.
Stoner discusses the accuracy of motorcycle scenes in "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation” (2015), starring Tom Cruise; "Skyfall" (2012), starring Daniel Craig; and "John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum" (2019), starring Keanu Reeves. He also comments on the reality of motorcycle stunts in "The Matrix Reloaded" (2003); "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" (1991), starring Arnold Schwarzenegger; "Avengers: Age of Ultron" (2015), featuring Scarlett Johansson; and "Tomorrow Never Dies" (1997). Stoner analyzes the portrayal of motorcycle-riding technique in "The Bourne Ultimatum" (2007), "The Great Escape" (1963), and "Biker Boyz" (2003).

Essay warning (as I like to keep all possibilities open for discussion and avoid a hate war on me or something.)
Though, for the clutch/downshift moment there is a bit of unrealism. Cruise appears to be using his right hand lever (or the tape is put in flipped horizontally and it is the left one), which generally(!) Is actuating the front brake, not the clutch. In that case Cruise would have jolted forward hard when pulling the lever that hard and much, just maybe he would lose front grip all together at worst.
Another case is that he wanted to load up the front wheel by braking and that he did shift down without the use of the clutch. But then we get back to the force and distance he moves the lever causing him to likely lose grip (as the sudden increase in load on the front tire, which it cannot shed as fast as it gets it, causes it to physically turn to 'glass', as explained by Yt'er RyanF9) rather than create grip (by increasing the contact patch due to the weight shifting forward).
And I said generally(!) as maybe those odd Germans from BMW thought if something different or something, but I can say for sure that my '03 CB500S has the front brake on the right lever, and clutch on the left lever. Thank you for reading, and Have a nice day :)

I am a big fan of you from Malaysia 🇲🇾, I will never forget you brought someone on the back of your ducati bike, on the sepang circuit, and I think in 2010/2011. and you bring a motorbike like there's no one behind, when I go back to school, I once told my friends 24/7 about it. they're absolutely proud of me. Another race that I will never forget is, you were the champion in that race when it was raining heavily, and you left the other riders far behind, I still remember the sound of your moto when changing gears to take turns. Sorry for my broken English. But I’m so exited to tell this story 💛. I love you legend, you give me a good memories.

He is totally right except for the wheelie with the BMW R1200 Cruiser in Tomorrow Never Dies which is not CGI. 2:45 the movie is trying to show TC shifting, but that's the front and rear brake. 5:34 throttle is not on left, but paused and it's clearly mirrored bc you can see the cable housing. Now, I'm going to bet my house and everything in it including myself, that Casey freakin Stoner knows the placement of the throttle, front and rear brake levers, shifter and clutch lever. Had to be an editing mistake on the Insider's end and stitched in Mr. Stoner's reply from different cut 😆 😉. All good though, The Insider does a great job with these expert breakdown vids! P.S. It was Bud Ekins (McQueens mate) who did the jump in the Great Escape. He did it for real and got it right on the first attempt. Extra bit of trivia, the bike is a 1962 Triumph (English built), yet he stole it from a German soldier in WW2.

    • @joelwillems4081
