Not to be THAT guy (Ur not that guy pal, ur not that guy) but you don't put "more" in front of "darker" when you said "more darker". "Stem's voice becomes darker and deeper" works /⁵ down error. It's like saying more better or more smarter. You just say better or smarter. The "er" at the end of the adjective takes the place of a "more" that you'd put before it. But even more smart doesn't really work, as the "er" (smarter/better) is the grammatically correct and more efficient way of writing out that information. Obviously words without an "er" need "more" in front to signify extra of the adjective. Anyways, great comment, I'm just a grammar dick.
i will NEVER get over the actors face while his character is under STEMs control. The body is fluid and deadly yet the face is completely distressed. The talent to seperate body parts like that is just amazing.

You sweet summer child. I live in Downtown Hicksville, populated by people I wouldn't light on fire for the chance to piss them out. I have friends around the world I've been communicating exclusively through text with for almost a decade. Really, the only drawback of quarantine for me is that I can't go to 24 hour stores at night to get real food and instead have to pick up my groceries from the local gas station.

This story really is a tragedy that this guy had his life ruined by technology solely because he hated technology, criticized people for living in a fantasy world, only to lose/give up his body to a fantasy that was much easier to live in than the real world
I don't think that he willingly decided to live in the fantasy world though. Based on how Dead meat described the event, it sounded like he broke his mind in his attempt to wrestle control of his body away from STEM, and STEM was then able to lock him away in a fantasy world as a result. It is tragic though.

The description of how the actor prepped for their role is very similar to how the international C-19 lock downs / quarantines impacted most of us...where we didn't see people and mostly communicated online (if we were lucky enough to be able to work from home). So... The joke from James that the prep for the role "must be nice" has aged like (I would say milk rather than wine) because of that. James was being sarcastic. I absolutely love the future tech they create for the film. It never feels super beyond reality. Except maybe the guy sneezing out the little nano droids. I'm talking more like the auto house, cars, the table messages. It's all integrated really well.

I love that James actually lets the audience know why he is showing us an ad from a sponser. So we can see that sweet, sweet gore. It actually makes me want to see what he deems worthy of Dead Meat.

Honestly I think the movie ended fine as it was. People always want a happy ending where the good guy wins in the end but that's not how it always works. Having Grey coming back and beating Stem just because of "muh human willpower" would be lame and cliche as fuck imo.

Ironic how Grey ended up being what he hated. A person living in a virtual reality to escape real life while a computer did everything else for him. I would like a sequel were Grey snaps out of his mind prison but overcomes Stem only to realize there are other companies like Stem that took over other disabled people & now Grey has to stop them. Call it Upgrade: Viral.

James’ cutaway where he yells “BUSINESS!” While wearing a comically large top hat with a monocle and a huge cigar screams so much dorky charisma. it’s impossible to not love this man.
For anyone who wants to know they are working on a TV series set in the same universe, a few years after the first movie, and focused on an other character that had somehow been taken over by STEM. Also the director has stated that his only other sci-fi film, The Invisible Man, is also set with the same universe as his first sci-fi film, Upgrade. The connection being the company "Cobalt".
Thanks for recommending this movie, James. It was really cool even if the ending was dark. I kept hoping Grey would twig to the fact he was in a dream world and pull some last-ditch move to scramble both himself and Stem and thus save the world
"Lived in isolation for 2 weeks" Since July I left my home for purposes other than walking with dog 4 times. And it was 0 on March-July. On July for 7 days I was leaving once per day to eat in restaurant as they were opened than.
I loved this movie: saw it in cinema when it came out. I found its cryptic poster strangely compelling, but the moment I saw it was a Leigh Whannel movie, I was all in. The only thing I felt did the film a disservice was its DVD lacking ANY bonus materials and/or audio commentary.
I usually watch them regardless, but yeah I stopped at the bar scene (not kills), just to rent this movie and watch it. Great movie and also actually Horrifying to think about

Honestly I think the movie ended fine as it was. People always want a happy ending where the good guy wins in the end but that's not how it always works. Having Grey coming back and beating Stem just because of "muh human willpower" would be lame and cliche as fuck imo.

I loved this movie: saw it in cinema when it came out.
I found its cryptic poster strangely compelling, but the moment I saw it was a Leigh Whannel movie, I was all in.
The only thing I felt did the film a disservice was its DVD lacking ANY bonus materials and/or audio commentary.
Such an excellent looking movie for having only a 3million budget.
