@@jimduyck Indeed... we are confident that we will be using in production is called "chemical supercritical EVA" incredible resiliency, and epic light weight characteristics.
Atreyu Running Company Thanks for the reply! By utilizing the term “chemical”, are you saying that it’s more than supercritical nitrogen or CO2? I’ve gotten the impression they impart a more *physical* change on the midsole composition than a *chemical* change. Thanks!

I’m all in with Atreyu. They deserve the support of as many of us as possible, as they take on the Goliaths of the industry. I’ve got a pair of “The Artist” on pre-order and they need 5,000 orders by October 7th, so I’m hoping DGR will show up strong for them over the next week!
Ah, we have come full circle, as the voyager was the first video of yours I saw. I was looking for different opinions on this startup. Love everything about Atreyu. The products, the business model, the price, their willingness to interact and transparency. And I’ve stuck with your channel ever since, so kudos to you as well👍🏾
Absolutely loving Atreyu base model shoes and their general philosophy. They are super honest and open about shoe development and what they are doing generally. I encourage people to order the artist on presale because it may not be as easy to get your hands on a pair after the presale!
It will be interesting to see if Atreyu will survive. In this day in age where there are only a few running shoe brands, it will be hard for them to compete for the long term, but they are growing in popularity and I really enjoy my pair!
QD: Atreyu has definitely been getting my attention recently. I like how they give you the info like the drop actually on/in the shoe, and their price points for their shoes are great. You can tell this company really thinks about the customer and wants to stand out from other companies.
I run in the base model. I’m on my 2nd pair, and yes sizing down remedies the lock down. I moved from a super-comfy 12.5 to a more locked in 12 (US sizing). I have also pre-ordered the Artist because...A CARBON PLATED SHOE < US$200?!!!
Just got my first pair of Atreyu. Love em. Gonna get a subscription and rotate them in. Shoes are super light. Takes 1 or 2 runs to break them in. Forms to your foot really well. The shoe is so light that you forget about them. They are not a dynamic shoe that brings energy return but offers more of a you get out what you put into your run type experience.
Been running in the voyager since July, love them. The brand is so transparent, it’s refreshing. The customer service is great and they continue to stay genuinely engaged with their customers through social media as much as possible. Taking customer feedback & looking to incorporate it where it makes sense. Light weight, simple, affordable, & genuine; only good things ahead for them.
I ordered the Artist and being an older slower runner the shoe is probably not meant for me but this is my way of supporting a young company and hopefully help add to the number of preorders needed to go into production.
I love the Atreyu Voyager and have a pair of the Artists on order. I don't expect the same life expectancy - I think part of their model is that the shoes are far less expensive with the trade-off of shorter lifespan, but with benefits in weight and simplicity. It works for me.
This shoe seems like it could really be the game changer that Atreyu has been going for. Would definitely give it a go if I was in a region where its available.
QD: Super-excited to see a company like Atreyu. Biggest draws: price-point and simplicity of construction. I'm hoping bigger companies will look at this and start trying to make a few more affordable shoe options.
I owned a pair of Nike Terra TCs in the early 1980s that were supposed to be around the same. They were amazing to run in, and even had a gripy waffle sole. They had a phylon mid sole, one of the first compression molded mid soles ever, I think. I saw an add for a new/old pair for over a $1000. I think I still have mine in a box somewhere.
QD: love what Atreyu are doing, taking risks, keeping things simple, trying something different. I have a pre-order in for The Artist, really looking forward to trying them.
Absolutely love Atreyu's philosophy and enjoy so much the ride of the Voyager! Got them in the very first pre-sales back in February, and at that time it was pretty cheap to get them delivered to Europe (around 20 usd with FedEx). Now, trying to pre-order The Artist, things have changed and they added some taxes which, on top of the shipping costs, make the overall delivery to Europe as expensive as 75 usd. This kind of anihilates their business proposition for people living in Europe... :( Hope this will change in the future...
I already own two of the Voyager Models and love them, no issues in case of lockdown, i can't even get them of without untying :D Of course i preordered two pairs of the artist for my brother and me
I love the direct to consumer subscription model. It will be great if they add no nonsense, low cost, high performance clothing in the future and make the shoe+clothing subscription seasonal- every 3 months.
I'm currently running in one of their first releases and absolutely love the shoe. Would say it's currently my favorite in the rotation. Very unique subscription business model but currently sold out. They tell me there will be plenty of subscriptions available come December. I put in a reservation for "The Artist" and they say that it will only be produced if it is supported by 5000 units by Oct 7th. Hmmm... creating urgency as a marketing technique? Looks like at this point they are a bit north of 1000.
Indeed they have been a little bit sneaky about the 5000 on the website because they confirmed on the IG that they will produce them no matter how many pre-orders they get.
I already pre-ordered a pair of The Artist. I think it's a great idea and a great business model that other shoe companies can emulate: produce a terrific shoe at a price point that's accessible to virtually all runners. I just hope they reach the 5,000 pre-orders they need to begin production.
Purchased my first pair of the artist today - 90 dollars out the door (including shipping!) Thanks Atreyu for your efforts in trying to restore balance to the rediculous running shoe price boom of the last 3 years! When I hear someobdy say, for example, "This shoe is only 135 dollars so its a pretty fair price" WHAT!! Nothing fair about anything in hyper inflation. Dont use relativity to co-sign rediculous shoe prices! (Not referring to you Seth, I always appreciate how you consistantly keep calling out rediculous pricing on the shoes you review) You guys are my heros!
QD: Love the company philosophy and guts to put out a shoe like this for this price. Time will tell on durability etc. but definitely a great proposition. I doubt the big companies will pay attention though, they have too much overhead and cost built in.
QOD- pre-ordered a pair a couple of days ago. I'm in between sizes so went with the larger size because of the narrow looking forefoot- really hope they fit; sounds like I should have gone smaller. Love the simplicity of design, price point obviously is great, and love that a small U.S. company is doing something a little different.
Just got a pair of the Artist and can't wait to run in them! Soft is good for me for comfort. Carbon plated shoes are stiff of course and for a slower guy like me can be a problem getting the use out of them. So more flexible is good too. Dry here in So Cal. The price of course can't be beat!!! It ran true to size, check again for me. I think this is going to be the right carbon plated racer for the slower hobby racer like me. Looks like all the boxes are getting checked. Did you get it to 50 miles? Not an 8 but a solid score!
QD: I think it is amazing that they are still able to start a new brand in our day and age, and still be competitive. Because with the current monopolies in the running shoe industry, opening a new line would be very difficult. Also seth, do you think that the artist would do better than the endorphin pro in a 5k-10k race?
For a 5k I would definitely go for a "not squishy"-shoe, because I'd say a quick turnover is far more important than midsole protection for that distance. So maybe the endorphin pro for a 10K, but I would choose neither of them for a 5k distance race.
The subscription service model is interesting, and being explored by other companies. From what I read earlier this week, ON is going to roll out a subscription service, starting at somewhere around $30/month. They explained that by their calculations that the average regular runner goes through about three pair of shoes per year. At this price point that would be equate to 3 pair of $120 shoes per year. Naturally, higher mileage runners would realize a bigger discount, IF you enjoy ON products.
I saw that news from On and I'm glad someone brought it up! Seems like On will be able to meaningfully recycle their Cyclon shoes because of their composition (beans, baby!) whereas I don't think I've seen the specifics of how Atreyu plans to offset low durability traditional EVA/polyester products with a recycling program that they can afford and maintain. Their website doesn't offer much in the way of detail there, just saying they'll find a way to sustainably recycle old shoes. Will have to wait and see
It would be fun to try. I feel there is no skepticism when it comes to the weight of a shoe hitting the market now. It's science, there needs to be some trade-offs. Lifespan, stability, and so on. People are paying more and more for less each day it seems. This one seems to cost the same as it weighs though for once. But it still won't be as cheap as a normal daily trainer if you consider cost per mile I think.
I want them to succeed so badly. I love what they have brought to the industry. AFFORDABILITY. As a newer runner looking for a decent shoe I was astounded by pricing. So the option to subscribe for $55 US at my 3 month that's only 210. For 4 shoes. That's the price of 1 "industry" shoe and socks. I don't need a Marathon shoe I barely run 5 miles but to support a small company I'm getting one anyway. I love the base model btw
100 dollars of 300 miles is definitely speaking my language. There’s no reason to charge close to 300 dollars for a running shoe NIKE. I’m going to preorder them for sure.
Kite Runner I’m the opposite I’ve never tried the Razor 3, but I can say that for me the Speed Elite is a very fast, fun, snappy shoe. I am however a 200lb lifter/runner who probably would need more protection for anything over 10 miles
I've tried the Rider neo, check it out on my website and I might order the duel neo from japan. cause it takes a while before it comes to Europe at least.
Looks like a nice shoe but the lightest marathon racing shoe I've ever seen is the Reebok Sub 2. The Sub 2 didn't have a carbon plate or offer quite as much midsole foam though.
QD: I think they’re really good for people who are more focused on their running rather than their shoes. The simplicity of the shoes as well as the subscription model are what lead me to think that. Also I still can’t get over the price and weight for that kind of shoe.
I’m not running Atreyu Company but in my opinion, taking pre-orders for the “December release” might help with avoiding the loss of sales and help fund a larger production order. I just can’t understand why this isn’t being done. The demand is obviously there. Maybe even charge a premium to allow a pre-order to help fund inventory.
@@matthewholliman1399 great question... one of our perils to solve for virtually is this issue. We've not been able to implement (on our e-comm system) an exchange between a "single purchase" pre-sale into a "recurring" subscription... seems so simple, but they use separate checkouts and processors. hope this explains why, but also know were working on buttoning up this issue. Its at the top of our list.
QD: I like what Atreyu is doing. Uncle Mike is striving to make them as affordable as possible because he, as a runner back in the day, got into running at an affordable price and finds today's market overengineered/overpriced. Preordered The Artist, and waiting for them to restock their regular shoe to try it.
Not only is the Voyager (base model) a great shoe but there is no doubt the Artist will be awesome as well. I will run my second marathon and BQ attempt in mine! I am digging the "blank canvas" look so mine can be colored as I see fit. PS What other shoe company is on TH-cam interacting with their customers? That would be ZERO!!!! Rock on Atreyu!
Great videos as usual 🙌. Keep up the fantastic reviews 👍👌. What are the shoes in ice boxes display in the Shoedio? Have they reached Haall of Fame status?
Like the look of these, fantastic price but I don't think I could run in the North West UK with the smooth rubber outsole. Business model interesting 🤔
Yoshi Runner yeah but would be much easier for them if they have more shoes reserved so they can have the capital to build the facilities and machinery
QD: love atreyu. No BS, just gives you what you need at the proper price. All the shoes have the same “tech” inside but they are able to change the game with the subscription model. I don’t get the hate people have for them. Find me a better value shoe in either category
QoD: I have the Voyager - they're really nice - but a tad narrow - not as bad as Hoka but I wish wish wish they had another 2-3mm forefoot width in a standard size. I do run in the Voyager every now and again - I'm considering getting the Artist - but I have enough racing shoes right now and no events to run .. we do have events here in NZ but I haven't entered any .. still looking at Japan 2021.
QD: i love their base model shoe. i have a subscription with them for a new shoe every month, and i really enjoy it. i preordered The Artist, so i am really looking forward to trying that
They need to make the tongue attached, make the heel counter a bit more stiff as well as the toe box and fix the tie down before selling these, good shoe for the price because so many shoe are extremely over priced but this shoe still needs some work. I would recommend not purchasing until these issues are resolved! Great video
Immediately went to Atreyu’s site to pre-order, shipping and tax to Sweden: $75 😅 Guess i’ll wait for a more local branch or reseller to get established. Too bad! Looks like an exciting racing shoe option to my current Next% / Endorphin Speed setup.
Seth, why are marathon shoes getting thicker and thicker? Early marathons were run in thin flat shoes almost. Doesn't the thickness prevent proper foot mechanics? And why do you do the foam thumb test on the heel when the best way to land is mid foot to forefoot? Wouldn't that area count more in foot striking comfort and response? Thanks
Thanks Seth! just looking at these and very interested. still a big fan of the original Hoka Clifton (ya i still have some) as weight is so important but they just keep making their shoes heavier like it doesn't matter. subscription does not interest me however.
Just watching the vlog whilst browsing through nike website. My ears pricked up at 163g!! then 10/10!! Im interested. Heading to atreyu website after the vlog! Sounds like a lighter version of the saucony endorphin speed.
QD: price point is amazing. But will it be enough to make a difference from the big brands? I did read the website. I don’t know, I always get a little turned off with the “Our Story” sections with these new startups.
Taking out the liner may slightly diminish the soft landing experience, but you will definitely feel that same pop the combination of the midsole and plate provide.
QD: I like the concept on paper, however, their drops are too limited, and the site doesn't reflect their stock. When you try and buy a size that is apparently available it will say "sold out" when you put it in your cart. I was notified about their pre-sale, however, I don't get mails when new stock arrives. I'm neither on Instagram nor Facebook, and would like to be notified via email like all other companies do, when your size is back in stock. Another thing: With only 10 days to go, and a mere 1100 pre-sales over the last 6 days I don't see them hitting the needed 5000 pre-sales to actually be able to produce the "The Artist". I mean, they said they'd find a way to manufacture it anyway but at what cost for the company? Sizing alert: If you actually cared to check their sizing table you'd have seen that their sizes are at least a whole size down from what you usually wear in say a Nike. Not really fair to to reduce the score for it. Especially since they are one of the few companies that actually use the proper conversion ( (foot length in cm + 1.5) * 2/3 = EU size). 99% of running shoe companies' sizes are exaggerated, maybe to have men think their feet are larger than they are. According to EU standards I'm a 42.5-43, which I am when it comes to leather dress shoes or barefoot shoe slike Vivobarefoot. Yet I need 44.5-45 in running shoes, and even those are sometimes on the shorter side
For me in Germany it was like 125€ and 250 Miles isn't Bad for a racing shoe. I don't think any of the Carbon Plate shoes will Last longer. The subscription for the base model is Like 80€ and you can stop whenever you want.
@@nilsma1417 Well, you're right. I checked again, and my checkout was set to Dollars. Its 125 and change in Euro. The rest of my point still stands, though. :D
We appreciate you checking us out! We were blown away with the success of our official subscription release and sold out within the first hour of almost every size. We have a full restock coming in December (with exponentially more opportunities available than past drops) and will alert those signed up for our email newsletter when sizes are back in stock. Hope this provides a little more insight from our end.
Shoot I already ordered my normal size. Do you think they’ll tweak the fit from now until production? Or should I try to change my order with them? QD: I really want this company to succeed, however I think the subscription model tends to be better suited towards a “generic” audience who’s less discerning about the nuanced differences between products e.g. bark box. Runners tend to be very particular about shoes in their specificity and also new releases... so I’m not sure if they can sustain the numbers & update cycle to make it work. I really hope so tho & will be supporting their brand!
@@JohnGene1 Great question about sizing. "The Artist" has the same upper of our base model which runs true to size. If you prefer a tighter fit on race day, we would be happy to adjust your size, but no tweaks in sizing are coming.

100 dollars of 300 miles is definitely speaking my language. There’s no reason to charge close to 300 dollars for a running shoe NIKE. I’m going to preorder them for sure.
Feeling Seth is going to go for a full send on Boulder Skyline *Fingers crossed* 🤞🤞🤞💪💪
Skechers speed elite hyper weight is very good as well. Smaller runners could probably do a marathon in them. If I remember right they’re 5.7oz
Probably a very underrated shoe. I've not tried one, but I imagine it's like my Razor 3 on steroids.
Kite Runner I’m the opposite I’ve never tried the Razor 3, but I can say that for me the Speed Elite is a very fast, fun, snappy shoe. I am however a 200lb lifter/runner who probably would need more protection for anything over 10 miles
I love all of it. I am a subscriber with my 4th pair of the base model coming soon. I have also preordered the Artist as well.
I want to see the Wave Rider Neo and Neo Duel! From Mizuno.
I want to ! I want to !
Please ? Thank you ?
I love my Atreyu trainer! I am on the pre-order for The Artist 🥳
Atreyu. I can't wait to try out to try out their training shoes when they get shoes to sell again.
December here we come 🚀
I’m not running Atreyu Company but in my opinion, taking pre-orders for the “December release” might help with avoiding the loss of sales and help fund a larger production order.
Please do a comparison video vs another marathon racer. Maybe endorphin pro or next% would be great!
Good morning everyone
Good morning!
@@janetduback5161 I hope you have a wonderful sunday janet 😊
If people want this shoe to be actually made, they need to sell 5,000 pre-ordered by October 7. About 1200 only so far.
Yoshi Runner awesome I also thought they had to get 5,000.
Cool. The pre order page certainly says 5000 minimum, but if that's changed then great
Yoshi Runner yeah but would be much easier for them if they have more shoes reserved so they can have the capital to build the facilities and machinery
We will be producing the shoes either way 🤘🤘
Damn! I remember when Atreyu made Music. Who would’ve thought they would Pivot to shoes
I just pre ordered the Artist, hope they get the 5000 to be produced 👍
Hoping that Seth's review helps get them there.
No worries, they will be produces nonetheless as they stated on IG
Thanks! We will be producing the shoe either way.
Perfect 👍
I love their concept. I'm a subscriber and also pre-ordered the Artist. Their shoes make everything else look like clown shoes.
QD: love atreyu. No BS, just gives you what you need at the proper price. All the shoes have the same “tech” inside but they are able to change the game with the subscription model. I don’t get the hate people have for them.
Find me a better value shoe in either category
FACTS!
Cant wait for Atreyu to try making an ultra trail running shoe.
QD: i love their base model shoe. i have a subscription with them for a new shoe every month, and i really enjoy it. i preordered The Artist, so i am really looking forward to trying that
Press ordered the artist. Thanks for the review.
They need to make the tongue attached, make the heel counter a bit more stiff as well as the toe box and fix the tie down before selling these, good shoe for the price because so many shoe are extremely over priced but this shoe still needs some work. I would recommend not purchasing until these issues are resolved! Great video
Already ordered one. Cant wait.
Immediately went to Atreyu’s site to pre-order, shipping and tax to Sweden: $75 😅 Guess i’ll wait for a more local branch or reseller to get established. Too bad! Looks like an exciting racing shoe option to my current Next% / Endorphin Speed setup.
adidas sub2? its not like the marathon shoes now, but from when light was fast to be the best, it was a really light racing flat
Solid marathon racing shoe for the price point!
Are you planning on getting the full release of the artist?
Seth, why are marathon shoes getting thicker and thicker? Early marathons were run in thin flat shoes almost. Doesn't the thickness prevent proper foot mechanics? And why do you do the foam thumb test on the heel when the best way to land is mid foot to forefoot? Wouldn't that area count more in foot striking comfort and response? Thanks
Hey Seth, if you have to run a city half marathon next Sunday, what would be your shoe of choice?
Waiting for this one to come back in stock..
Hello, good morning! I love the Atreyu business model. It is encouraging to see another US company breaking in to the shoe manufacturing world!
I pre-order the shoe but they need 5000 orders so go en support this amazing company!!
We plan on making the shoes whether we reach our goal or not 🤘🤘
nickatnite16 Slight adjustments but the upper will remain the same.
@@atreyurunning wauw that's even more amazing really looking forward to my shoes!
@Atreyu Running Company upper design subject to change but upper material is still the same, right?
First Pakawat Correct! The upper will remain the same.
I missed by order by CM ,it's 2size downT_T . From nike 1/2size down should be perfect.
I had a pair of Nike Mariah in the eigthies. It was a very light racingshoe but propably not as ligth as the Artist.
I have the base model and love it so far!
I think the sketchers speed elite hyper would be close to the weight of your size Seth?
Decatlhon has a very lightweight shoe, too.
I have been trying to get in on the subscription plan for the past few months but they never have my size to start the subscription
So Seth one question, would you consider to use it for a marathon race instead of let's say Next%..?
The escalante racer is 6.7oz in men’s size 9. Close, but no cigar
Yeah but not many people would want to run a marathon in the Escalante Racers. 10k but not 26.2.
ICYMI: Atreyu is an American Heavy Metal band from Yorba Linda, California, formed in 1998. 🤘❤️👍
Are these cushioned enough in the heels for someone with heel spurs?
QD: price point is amazing. But will it be enough to make a difference from the big brands? I did read the website. I don’t know, I always get a little turned off with the “Our Story” sections with these new startups.
I love those stories. Get into how things ca mg e to be. Dreams become real life.
So could u feel the plate working for ya?
EVA is mixed with Supercritical CO2 to make bubbles in the foam.
Do you think it is possible to take out shoeliner and use an orthotics without altering the dynamic and caracteristic of the shoe?
Is it $100 with a subscription or can I just buy a pair outright for that price?
No subscription needed for the $100. But it is a pre-sale, won’t be delivery until next spring. They said they are aiming for March.
Brayden Halvorson That’s really exciting then. Thanks for the information!
bryan long that is the sale Price.
Wondering this also
@@JohnGene1 Great question about sizing. "The Artist" has the same upper of our base model which runs true to size. If you prefer a tighter fit on race day, we would be happy to adjust your size, but no tweaks in sizing are coming.
