Atreyu is such an exciting company! I love their story and how they are challenging the industry! I will definitely buy all of their shoes! Congratulations on you PB! Great review as usual!
We're all pretty confused about pricing of this shoe. Here's my opinion. They can sell the shoe for $100 because of the subscriptions of their other shoes(I know this one isn't a sub shoe). They only make enough shoes to provide for their subscribers. So as a subscribed consumer we don't get the back end cost necessary to create a large stock for sitting in a warehouse, waiting for a foot. And as a company, they must save a ton. Also, when it comes to a brand like Nike, we're going to be seeing the cost of all the R&D and marketing that goes in to something like the Alphafly. We're not only paying for high-end materials and assembly. Atreyu has figured out various way to keep overhead from factoring in to the price of their shoes. Example: they don't use shoe boxes. I'm excited to see what some other companies do to compete in this landscape.
i think another point which you touched on, is that Atreyu saves a ton on testing and development by waiting for the competition to develop the newest foams, and finding how to minimize the prices of that
I was just visiting “On’s” website and they’re now marketing a new subscription based recyclable running shoe: “Cyclon”. Looks like Atreyu is already making waves in the industry with their business model.
Very nice video/review.....I’m very tempted to try this brand, the only thing holding me back is my loyalty to my local running store. Congratulations on the PR!!
Besides the price, I love the aesthetics of this shoe: mostly white with the logo. I can wear them causally after they are done with running! I can't say that about the Next%...
Wow, that’s an amazing price! Maybe that will help bring prices down with other brands. Many more runners can afford a price like that!!! This may actually get me to try this shoe! Marketing at its best!!
Loving this brand’s concept! Just managed to order a pair of the base model Atreyus and can’t wait for them. I feel like they can offer this racer so cheap due to keeping things simple, even the tooling for the shoes seems like it may be lower cost, not doing a crazy rubber design on the sole or anything. “Keep it simple stupid” is a concept some of the big competitors need to revisit. PS. That dry heaving had me on edge as a sympathy puker lol
That 2:50 hacking is very familiar. Every HIIT session and whenever I re-evaluate my maximum heart rate. Not pleasant, but it makes every other workout seem relatively easy. Well done, I haven't run a sub-20 minute 5k since I was in my teens and early 20s, and never will again at my age now.
Been eyeing Atreyu for a while. Super innovative selling method which keeps price down as quality remains the same (or increases). Definitely down to support a cool new company! Ps. Gotta love the post hard effort hack attack! Haha.
Looks very exciting. I love the base model, currently on my second pair. Can't wait for these!!! Side note: just starting HR training. It is so frustrating. Heart Rate is all over the map. Walk, Run, Jog and then stop. Grrr. Hope it gets better sooner than later. Great review.
I emailed Atreyu and they are expecting to be back in stock in December. What a good problem to have for a new company. I will be ordering in December.
Congrats on the PR! I tried to order the Voyager several months ago but they were sold out at that time. Atreyu has a unique business model, and everyone that has run in the shoes seems to love them. As someone who has yet to have the opportunity, I'm intrigued. Now, I'll probably take some heat for this, but I cannot get past the looks. I'm not a fan of the standard colorway, and the "Strike Here" verbiage on the first model was just funny. I hoped that those minor issues would draw enough feedback for them to consider tweaking the asthetics, but now we're on a newer model and they've doubled down on an unfinished look with some rather obtrusive text on the heel. None of this is enough to deter me from satisfying my curiosity on a single pair, but even with a modest cost savings, they would have to FAR outperform other brands in order to persuade me to choose them a go-to trainer or racer.
Choice filming of the shoe & 5k time trial, perfect music for a 5k race, good time for running by yourself, 5k race with people take min or more off that lower 18min 👍😀✅
If it’s a TPU midsole, it surely is a little firmer than Pbax (ZoomX with Nike, and PB with Saucony), right? So, does it compare to the Hoka One One CarbonX (TPU midsole)? Or the Nike ZoomFly 3 (React foam)? BTW got myself a PB over 10 miles this weekend in the ZoomFly 3. Wanted to negative split, but started way too slow, with the first 2k on 8mins each. Then sped up & the shoes really helped. Came out at 1:33:27 (Was aiming at 1:36:40), with an average HR of 168. More importantly, my average stride went from 84 to 88cm, compared to my Nike Pegasus 37. So, the shoes helped a lot. Thanks for helping me choose the ZoomFly 3.
Pre-orders on their website: 115 sold of 5000 2% funded This product will only be produced if at least 5000 units are supported by October 07, 2020 16:12 (Central Time (US & Canada)) 16 days remaining . Hope they have enough pre-orders to produce the shoe!
Got to try this! I hope the 100 usd price mark is true. No question for now. I will be waiting for to your future thoughts as you logged more miles on them. Keep safe kofuzi!
I liked Atreyu's shoes before they added the carbon fiber plate, so I am really looking forward to see how they perform for me when they fully release them.
Look at his gate cycle at 7:40! Literally looks like that shoes are springing his foot off the ground like a catapult. Those shoes have some serious responsive from that plate!
Can’t wait for this shoe to come out. It’s probably to early to ask but how does it compare to the next % in terms of the midsole response. I have not tried the New Balance TC.
Purchased my first pair of the artist today - 90 dollars out the door (including shipping!) Thanks Atreyu for your efforts in trying to restore balance to the rediculous running shoe price boom of the last 3 years! When I hear someobdy say, for example, "This shoe is only 135 dollars so its a pretty fair price" WHAT!! Nothing fair about anything in hyper inflation. Dont use relativity to co-sign rediculous shoe prices! Atreyu, you guys are my heros!
When you read their story on the website, it seems like they want to make their products as affordable as they can :) which is nice...part of the reason for such a low price for such a good shoe is also probably that they are not as known yet as those "big dogs" out there, where a pretty significant part of the price is the brand...so I think they cant really afford to ask for more, people wouldnt be as interested if they went for like 150 dollars...the shoe now also reminds me so much of the adios pro...wonder if adidas got a little inspired there
Awesome review and congrats on the pr. What type of training are you doing? I have simile pr’s then you but I rarely go slower then 8:35 pace for easy runs. Do you find that by doing those 9min plus pace runs you feel more refreshed for hard efforts?
Me too! The Skechers Razor 3 is so bouncy with the hyperburst... I hope Atreyu does something similar...I can't wait to try any iteration of this shoe!
For its comparatively low price, durability wouldn’t be as big a priority as with other carbon-plated options as you point out Mike. I suspect the very thin layer of rubber would be the component that would wear out first. How does this compare to the Endorphin Speeds in your opinion? I’m still looking for a future marathon shoe, but also half marathon down to 5K racer, having just signed up for that B.A.A. 3 event medley. I’m curious about the Brooks HE2 since I adore the Hyp Tempo’s (and could consider them as racers, especially 5-10K). The fit on the Tempo’s is perfect for me but I don’t know if the unisex sizing of the HE2 will be less precise. Any feedback is welcome about any recommendations you might have. Martha
Great video! I have the Atreyu base model and can't wait for this plated racer! Can you compare to other carbon plate shoes (and also how it is similar/different from the base Atreyu model)?

Guys it’s not really about the shoes - it’s about you. You perform, shoes give you 1-2% top un return and in case of lets say 20 min per 5km it’s only 12 seconds. And you can practice so much using any shoe and cut off waaay more than 12 seconds. Keep it in mind. Not the shoe.
Congrats on your PR Kofuzi! Can you tell me please more about upper of this shoe?On the picture It looks like not very breathable or am I wrong?I'd like to hear your opinion.
I think it's crazy how long it took to get plates into running shoes. Nike has been doing it with their basketball shoes since the mid 90s. Hard to believe it took almost 20 years for them to get that tech into running shoes
That shoe is so white. You should have your girls draw something cool on it! Artist!!! Looked like a serious effort. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen that kind of pain on you. (you wore it well). Congrats on the PR buddy!
I love my Atreyu base model(s) but replace the thick insole with custom orthotics which just about makes them the most perfect shoe for me (my orthotics take up too much room on some shoes). Do you have any insights (or can you find out) why they made the insoles non-removable on the Artist? Or whether can they be ripped out without destroying the shoe......
They're unremovable because if a removable insole gets screwed up in a daily trainer, it's no big deal to stop and fix it, but in a race that could be an issue and affect race performance. That's why in a lot of racing shoes, the insole is either glued or stitched down
Not really sure why people are surprise that it is cheap. It's basically four generations behind the leading edge of Nike. The Alphafly Next% being a Gen 4 Carbon plated shoe. They've basically talked about how everything in the design of their shoes is low cost material and that the uppers were originally discarded material. I didn’t feel that with the Atreyu. The turns weren’t quite as tight as in the TC video, so I can’t say for sure. But, the Atreyu is lower to the ground and feels lower.
This is music to my ears, I’m super pumped for this shoe and to hear your positive thoughts.... it gets me excited!

I believe you mean "aesthetic". An "atheistic" shoe is more of a knee high, black leather boot with a 60mm stack height and maybe a stud or two. 🤡
I' d feel a bit weird walking around in a shoe that has "The Artist" written on the heel
Or the alphafly, which is yet even uglier.
I’m not sure if it’s gonna be great walking around in a shoe with a high stack height and a plate inside.

100 dollars for a plated shoe is promising. I don't really like the ultra minimalist look but I can look past that, performance is what counts.

I didn’t feel that with the Atreyu. The turns weren’t quite as tight as in the TC video, so I can’t say for sure.
But, the Atreyu is lower to the ground and feels lower.
@@kofuzi thanks! Looking forward to more thoughts as you test it... And huge congrats on that PR
