I love watching your son helping you. It reminded me of when I was the same age helping my father fix his car....I am 60 years old and my father is gone for a long time. He was a good man. :)
Thank you! Yeah there's never one size fits all. You just need it to fit the crap you have! That little stool pocket has since been converted to a mini fridge pocket. Worked out well !
Pocket screws would have been great for mounting the workbench top. Once you buy the little jig, and use it once, it's life-changing for DIY projects. Always makes your structure feel way sturdier too.
Yeah I actually thought about using my kreig jig but I thought the 3/4 might not be deep enough. That would definitely make it a more professional job!
That bench is actually pretty nice dude! I actually watched this video quiet a few times i built one for my garage similar to this design so i used your video as like a template to build it. So i really appreciate you posting your design.
Nice bench man. Gave me an idea on mine. I was at lowes and the pro desk guy tild me when the guys get back with kitchen jobs they have left over countertop. Just happened to have one 6 foot fermica top. Ended up looking good. Keep it up
That's the way to do it. I was looking for Butcher block and steel on marketplace but didn't have the patience. It is relatively cheap if I need to replace the top
This is a pretty solid little workbench. While once you figure out how it comes together, it is physically Easy to assemble th-cam.com/users/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh by yourself. But the diagrams explaining the steps are really pretty bad. I could not get the handle pins in all the way despite multiple attempts, so I just used a screw I had on hand for the 2nd handle. I could not get the first pin in further or pull it back out. You are supposed to hammer it in, but I had no leverage and the handle is plastic and I did not want to risk breaking it. I will get a lot of use out of the bench because of the convenient size and height. It does fold up nicely for storage. They even explain how to fold it so you don't get pinched...that is important!
Yes, that pegboard is called wall control. It's definitely worth the extra. I got this pack from harbor freight, but you can order from many places and they have all sorts of colors. They are compatible with standard pegboard accessories as well.
It will all depend on your precise dimensions but most counters are between 32 and 36 inches high, so you should get long enough material to maximize the material. 8' post will give you a set of legs. I kept my dimensions simple. 2 ft wide surface means each sheet can be cut in half instead of wasting material. I think I used 2 sheets of 3/4 plywood and (6) or (7) 8 foot 4x4s. And (12) 8' 2x4
I'm looking to build this and I am new to woodworking and cutting etc. Do you have a list of materials, lengths and sizes you used for helpful guidance?
There's really no limit on dimensions. Usually, 32-36 inches is counter height. 24 inches deep is standard as well. Plywood comes in 4x8 sheets so tey and maximize the use of material. For example, one 8' 4x4 makes two legs. Rip the plywood in half and you have enough for a 2x8 table with a shelf. The beauty of it is you can make it customer to fit whatever you intend to use it for. Invest in a decent tape measure, decent circular saw and go to town. A jigsaw is helpful but not necessary
If you look, you'll see I just used a 2x4 turned on its side to set the height. That allows enough room for me to reach underneath when I inevitably drop something underneath. Also gives room to vacuum
@@themoneypitgarage I’m actually in the process of building this same bench. I did see that in the video and did the same. Could you drop the measurement from the top of the bottom 2x4 to the top of the middle shelf 2x4. Also had to wing the 4x4 placement! Thank you for the video and idea!
13.25" from top of bottom shelf to the bottom of the 2x4 supporting the middle shelf. But make sure you make it work for you. If you've got stuff larger or smaller just make it tall enough for that stuff to slide in
I painted my benches the exact same color. It makes them look like they have metal look or like a Automotive bench, You did a good job. Not Miter saw area though?
@Phil Mcginnis potentially, you need at least 7ft of head room so you don't feel like you have to duck, but keep in mind the thickness of your beam and floor joists as well. My joist sit on the beam, you could hang them to save height but it wouldn't support as much weight
@Phil Mcginnis look at my other garage videos, I think I talk about ceiling height. If your metal structure has vaulted ceiling or scissor truss you'll be good
Saw your post on reddit. Your garage is sick.
Thanks dude! I'm extremely proud of it!

I love that you designed it as you go, not using complicated software.

Nice space. Nice bench addition.
Thank you!

Thanks man, that's awesome to hear! I never thought a video about my work bench would take off like this!
Came out looking great! Appreciate the vid
Such a great shop/garage! Well done. It's coming along very nicely.
Thank you, hope do do an update/ walk through here after Christmas
what a dream garage. bench is great too.
Thank you, very proud if it!

If I had a garage like this, I'd live in it, great.
In Poland, I can't afford any at the moment and I like tinkering
this is definitely my dream garage! I don't live in it but I've made it my home office and sanctuary away from the kids!
That’s a nice garage
Thank you, I'm very proud of it!
Great job. Thanks for taking the time to do this video. One question, what type of peg board is that? Is it metal?
Yes, that pegboard is called wall control. It's definitely worth the extra. I got this pack from harbor freight, but you can order from many places and they have all sorts of colors. They are compatible with standard pegboard accessories as well.
Do you happen to have a general materials list of what you started with Qty of boards used and stud lengths?

100% better.
What color paint did you use I got the same cabinets
Sherman Williams industrial enamel dovetail 7018 in semigloss. Holding up amazing on the handrails and bench so far. Hardens up nicely
neat

I have a portable stand and a mobile table for the saw. I tend to most of my woodwork outside. Thank you!
excelente!!!
Thank you
How tall is it?
39.25 exact height of the rolling bench
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thing isnt simple lol can put anything on top of that bad boy
Yes sir, added a new vice and a beer fridge!
Simple. Somewhat inexpensive. No significant hardware considerations. What is not to like. Thanks.
ooohm oohhhm aaahm aaaahm. ??????
that 10 yr old kid is almost as tall as u
What's scarier is that his 8 year old brother is only an inch and 3 pounds lighter! Good genes ;)
I really like this and want to build something similar. May I ask the sidewall height and the height of your area under the loft or mezzanine. area?
It's about 78 or 89 inches under the beam and right about 94 inches underneath the mezzanine.
@@themoneypitgarage So if I was shopping metal buildings for a shop build, a 14 foot wall would work if the mezzanine was centered under the peak?
