You should have taken 120 up to Tioga Pass and beyond. Tuolumne Meadows is some of the most beautiful high country in the park. It's just a 30 minute drive from Lee Vining. They have a restaurant, general store, burger joint, fuel, RV dump, campground (though your rig is probably too big), horses, tent cabins, showers and many, many trailheads. You can easily go above tree-line on day hikes. Utterly gorgeous lakes, meadows, streams, granite. It is VERY different from the East Side of the Sierra where you were (which is beautiful too). Paradise. AND there are even soda springs!
I just love the way you two talk about real stuff in your videos - how you conserve water, minimize trash, what’s the battery level, the view out the window - all the things I think about when I’m in my RV! You are my favorite RV channel!
We just Love US395! Mammoth Lakes, Convict Lake, Lee Vining, Mono and the list can go on! We spent soo much time in the area all year round! Thanks for the memories!
I like the cooking segments. I'm glad you are enjoying the new camper and kodo's to you for training the dog to not jump out of the open truck door. It's so important. Love you videos, thanks for posting.
Thanks! Yes, we've been missing doing the cooking segments as well. ( and videos) We have Louie and June wait at the RV door as well and it's worked well! 👍 Appreciate you watching!
This area was the jump off point for many long backpack trips in the area. Most were 50 miles two weeks either on the John Muir or PCT. Very fond memories. From way above the timberline you can see forever.
Unlike some, I think the pinstriping is cool. It means you are using your rig to its fullest potential and not just living in it. Living! vs just living. And air fried skin on bone in thighs chopped up make for some great 2-layer oven baked nachos... Chips, chicken, pico, shredded cheese, more chips, more chicken, more pico, more cheese then bake until cheese melts and tips of the chips brown. Top with sour cream and guac. Yum.
I' ve passed by Mono Lake on the way out of Yosemite. And, you are correct, the drive into the main area of Yosemite would take quite awhile. I need to go back and spend time near Mono. Looks nice.
You used to use those disposable cutting things for raw meat. I use those all the time now. When we are in our rv we have a 43 gallon fresh water tank so it keeps me from having to scrub the cutting board and wasting water. Thanks for another educational and fun video!
Nice vid guys! You’re in one of my favorite parts of the country. I’ve been working with Kit to not rush the door. He was pretty stubborn at first but much better now. I’m 3 weeks from solar/lithium in my new rig. Can’t wait to get back to normal. Keep on having fun!
Hey Sally! Yes, it always a work in progress with our little guys isn't it! We had someone say something that has stuck with us on training the dogs...." progress isn't always linear!" 🤣 ☀️ 🔋⚡️ So Fun!
We camped in Lundy Canyon. Then after a few days it was off to Yosemite. They let us use their outside hose bibb at that visitor center. We eat breakfast at that little restaurant also. It was nice to see it all again.
Condensation is caused by cold air meeting warm air . You likely have a problem with your door seals or alignment /fit of the door. Check for good seal all around. In norcold side by side doors a common problem with condensation is the seal flaps between the doors not seating properly when doors are closed. It’s an alignment issue in that case.
As a resident of the Mono Lake area, heres a little tip: Mono, the way you're pronouncing it, is short for a disease (mononucleosis); the lake, the county, the area of Mono is named after the Mono Indian tribe, pronounced Mo-no. Not everyone knows that. Love the video, though. Glad you enjoyed this beautiful area and its history.
super relaxing episode. Coffee mugs are an RVing essential though. Was worried when we got ours that they would get brokern, but no issue at all. have some of those non slip mats in the dishes cupboard and the same four Mugs have survived perfectly for more than 30,000 miles of towing so far, and not all on perfect roads either...as always, safe travels....
Great episode I love that area they film the Clint Eastwood movie High Plains drifter at Mono Lake. I have to say you guys are big time Boondockers and you really can’t be trimming branches if you want to stick to the rules leave no trace I know you don’t want to scratch your rig. Wish you guys the best.
Cool! Didnt know a Eastwood movie was out there! It is definitely harder for us in the new RV with the height and the width. We are very carful not to tread new ground out there and only camp in perviously used spots. The road coming in was really narrow and had some undergrowth for sure. Tread lightly! Thanks Mark😊
It's always the first scratches that hurt the most. If you fix them, the next scratches will again be the "first" scratches. So I always try to "welcome" the first scratches as "pre-disastering" the rig. Then I can just enjoy the rig and not worry about keeping it "perfect."
Cool there’s a ghost town I believe it’s called bodie historic park that is a ghost town near you could walk through. Enjoy I’m going to San Diego La Jolla cove to watch my brother swim a mile in the ocean. Have fun guys!
So sorry you missed 120 into Yosemite, the drive into Inyo is spectacular and the park gate is right outside Tuolumne Meadow and river. The campground is currently closed but the area is the most beautiful of Yosemite I think….oh well next time…
We have a 12V Norcold frig in our new Class C RV and we also get a lot of condensation and ice build up at the bottom. Taking it to dealer for them to look at. Seems like is lacks insulation.
I love it over there, from Lone Pine to Reno is one of my favorite drives, hopefully you're going north when you leave and make your next stop, Bridport of course you can take 395 all the way to Spokane Washington, long drive but pretty cool in a 18 wheeler.
Ill tell you what, if that was My 5th wheel she would never spend a night off road. Its way to purty. But I love watching where you take it. I wouldn’t tell someone else what to do with their rig.
Was just at June Lake RV resort. Full hookups and inexpensive. They don't have public restrooms or showers. But great right in that town. You guys must have just been there before or during labor day. Got some crazy windy/rainy days but overall June Lake loop area is awesome. There is also a public dry RV campground at Silver Lake that I think have spots that fit your rig. That's an AWESOME area. Also all the other random RV/camp spots along the Silver/June Lake loop. I guess I'm saying.. next time you could be staying a bit closer to the lakes. Walking distance. Cheers.
Great video! I enjoyed the cooking segment. Thanks for sharing your tips for conserving water while boondocking. I have been curious what youndo since the battery install video.
Thanks! Yes, we used to do a lot more cooking segments.... and boondocking tips/ water conservations tips...since we lived in the van! A lot in in our older videos! 😊 Thank you for watching !!!
I love it out there. I spent a week out in that area last year, just hopping between lakes and stuff. I always want to suggest a bunch of stuff when I see these videos but have to remember they're filmed in advance lol
That cup and silverware and plate and country fried steak and that breakfast is like gold when your OTR People can only understand it when you're on the road for months at a time
We love the June Lake area. We've been to that Cafe in Lee Vining, but I think they changed the name. The food and ambiance is wonderful. And the pinstripes, that'll buff out. 😂 Thanks for sharing.
❤ we really love watching you on your adventures. Sorry to hear about the scratches on the new camper. 😣 watching the last video, when you were making chicken and salads. That you had some dishes they were cream or White. Wondering if you would share were you bought those. Been looking for something that’s not plastic. But that is safe to use in the microwave. I love the energy you all have. Inspires us to do more. Thank you in advance.
Can you "wrap" the lower sections of the RV? I was thinking to tell you two when you bought the trailer. Great video of Mono and Lune lakes...been awhile for me.
Nice to see you're including a cooking segment in the video. Never used an Air Fryer before. Is the tub the only item that needs cleaning? As for the scratches on the RV. Use toothpaste and a micro fiber clothe to buff out the scratches if they not too deep.
Nice episode! When I still lived in so California, I skied frequently at Mammoth. In the summer months, I needed my high altitude fix and would take a long weekend once or twice a month to drive up and hike. Winter is actually the busier time because of the thousands of so California people who go up for skiing! Yes, you are correct about the real distance to Yosemite. Coming in on the Tioga Rd, you would arrive in Tuolomne Meadows where there is incredible hiking and scenery. Clouds Rest is one of the 2 greatest hikes I've done in my life. From there, it's a good 45 minute or more drive down to the valley.
Great video guys!!! Sorry about the pinstripes on the full body paint. We have full body paint on our 48’ TH and we are set up for off grid similar to you guys. So, needless to say, we have accumulated some pinstripes. I have been able to buff a few of them out, but there are a couple that were just a bit to deep to buff out. You know what that say, rubbing is racing and boondocking is a contact sport😂. I’m guessing as you 2 are ambassodors for Alliance, when you make it back to the Elkhart area in the future, they can easily fix the ones that you can’t. I contacted our manufacturer and when we make it back to that area of the country, they said they could fix our pinstripes for us. Keep boondocking, as I know you guys will, bcuz we thoroughly enjoy your videos!!! 👍😃🍻
Love the area you are staying in. I've been going to June and Mammoth area since I was a child. We now live in Oregon, but still travel 395 at least every year to 2 years. One suggestion is when you have to take South Tufa trail, much more to see, including walking among tufas, brine shrimp, and brine flies (which are very interesting, IMO)
Thanks for this fun video! We be in Yosemite Valley in a couple of days. We just missed you. We love "northern" 395, although we have not been south of Bristlecone Pine. Here are my favorite places: Bodie, Tioga Pass, Saddlebag Lake, Mammoth Lakes (including Devil's Postpile), and of course Bristlecone Pine. The east-west drive over Tioga Pass is stunning. The only problem with Yosemite is they only allow dogs on the Valley trails. For instance, the Pacific Crest trail crosses Yosemite at Tuolumne Meadows, but the dogs have to stay on asphalt. Tuolumne Meadows is stunning, and most people don't visit it because they tend to stay close to Yosemite Valley. Sonora Pass is also stunning but I am not sure your 5th wheel could handle it. My fantasy is to rent a convertible to make that drive. Saddlebag Lake is fantastically beautiful It is halfway up Tioga Pass to the Yosemite east entrance. I assume Saddlebag Lake allows dogs, because we saw a few on the trail. The Twenty Lakes trail takes you around the Saddlebag Lake and into a basin of alpine lakes. You can go as far as you want. It gives you the same feel of hiking in the Yosemite back country - but it allows dogs. My husband liked Mono Lake, but I did not like the smell. The view of the Sierra Escarpment is stunning from Mono Lake.
Not sure if you are aware. But walk through the thrushes is prime habitat for mr low belly (rattlers). There are two types in that area the Mohave Green and the Western Diamond back. Both have bad attitudes. While in the area check out some of the old gold mines. That have been preserved. Also if Tioga Pass is open take a cruise up the mountain. It's the back way into Yosemite. HOW EVER DO NOT TAKE YOUR TRAILER!!!
Wife thought it was funny, because usually we watch you guys and say we need to go check that place out. And this time we were say hey we've been there. Love the area.
@@IreneIronTravels thanks for your response. I can only imagine the work that goes into running your channel and responding to people. Travel safe guys. Hope June is healing nicely.
I just saw an old video you did when you had your van and you showed some uv screens you put in your front van windows. Do you have a link to where you purchased those?
We made those screens out of a solar material we found on Amazon. They don't sell the exact same one we got back in 2019, but it is something like this amzn.to/3RfMZDS
Quick response! I want to try your chicken recipe. Thank you! My wife and I spent 46 years boondocking around the West. We had jobs that allowed us to spend more than half a year living in our many RVs. When we were in our RV's, we were on vacation. We had solar panels on our roofs over 40 years ago when panels were very expensive and all we had were lead acid batteries. We could easily stay places for about two weeks at a time. 640 million acres of beautiful 'Public Lands' mostly in the West owned my me and you. BLM does not own our 'Public Lands', they just manage it for us. There are some folks who want our 'Public Lands' sold off to the highest bidder. Can you imagine? Just Google: privatization of our 'Public Lands'. My wife and I have done everything we can as voters to stop these people! We're done with RVing (age) but we want what we've had to be passed down to future generations of Americans. Best wishes! +
In the 5 years of full timing with solar panels I've probably only cleaned them a handful of times. Only if they get really dirty, or covered in pollen or similar. A good hard rain helps too!
Very nice truck and camper y’all. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. We’ve been going to Mammoth for 20 years now and it never gets old. I probably know all the hidden gems. HMU I’ll be your tour guide 😁
Yes! www.campendium.com/owens-river-road Normally we like to put them in the description..... but lately I've been just giving it to the people that ask. As our videos continue to grow I want to be conscious of over populating areas. 👍
OMG! Did you donate the unfinished portions of that breakfast to a Third World country? I didn't notice doggie bags... Holy smokes, I could have eaten both of those I'm sure, but you need to be able to walk after a meal and that probably wouldn't have happened any time soon. "TIE-oga" pass. Yes! Yosemite is right there! DO IT!!! Yosemite is beautiful. 120 is beautiful. You can't go wrong unless you head into the heart of the park with the trailer; then you may be stuck in traffic forever. You dinner looks amazing! Happy Trails!!! (DO YOSEMITE! Even if you only head up to the gate.)
Can you explain for me, cause I'm confused. Your two inverters were each pulling 24+ amps yet you were only running one AC and inside you mentioned multiple times that you were only pulling less than 1200w. Why would each inverter be drawing so much? You're not on shore power, so your inverter/charging isn't actively charging (besides your MPPT). Main reason I ask is you can max pull 2400w continuous out of these inverters/each. And in my experience, condensation in the fridge means it's not properly sealed around the edges. Just my two cents.
Yeah for sure. So the system was drawing roughly 1200 watts from the air conditioner. 1200 watts divided by the 24 volt battery system is roughly 50 amps. Because the inverters are wired and programmed in parallel they should split the load equally. Although in my case it was a bit off on 24 amps on one and 26 amps on the other. I’ll check the fridge seals more closely. 👍
You know, I'm embarrassed now. I kept thinking it would be 120v and not 24ishv coming from the battery bank. Glad it's working as expected! Do you think you could have managed with the regular MultiPlus II (the one's without 2x120v)? Those can still be hooked up in parallel which should achieve the same result. I've seen both setups and didn't understand why you'd need to use 2x of the 120v*2x models.@@IreneIronTravels
You may have already covered this, but how usable is your floor plan with the slides in? Am curious what the impact is of being somewhere with tight space.
The dual opposing slides in a 5th wheel with a kitchen island like ours really forces you to open the slides when parked. It is a down side for sure when traveling or in tight spots. But on the flip side the area is huge when opened up!
Not really out in the boondocking areas we have been. But defiantly in campgrounds. We just had both neighbors in an RV park get their bikes stolen. With boondocking... if you stay away from the big cites you will be fine. So most spots we go to everyone is out there just recreating and camping. If you go to an area (boondocking or campground) by a big city you might run more into petty theft and what not.
If you haven't been to Bridgeport and beyond to Bodie, it is well worth the drive. Bodie is a ghost town that used to be a mining town. Beautiful setting and fun to see the old buildings.
Does 2 A difference really make any difference. They’re both pulling through your same battery bank and really what difference does it make it one inverter is drawn to amps more than the other? I also love my air fryer, but to make my cleanup easier I use precut parchment paper. That is the same size as my air fryer.
Not 100% sure yet. The Victron manual is very clear about the DC cables being the exact same size in parallel operation. If that’s 10% difference … it would be 20 amp difference at full power of 200amps. But still testing….. Good idea on the parchment paper👍
No. From what we've found over the years...it is pretty safe out in areas like this. The other people are there for the same recreational reasons. ( just make sure you are away from the big cites!) Also, side note.... our 2 neighbors at an RV park just got their bikes stolen. One was worth 5 grand! 😳

Always enjoy your channel!! BS & BK &BC !!
I lived in Mammoth for a bit and Mono Lake was a popular 4th of July spot. they also have lots of natural hot springs there near mammoth
Great episode!! Me and my gf always split meals! Thanks for June Lake traveling tip, looks amazing.
Mono Lake is pronunciation mow now lake .. spent many years in Lone Pine and Alabama Hills

That cup and silverware and plate and country fried steak and that breakfast is like gold when your OTR
People can only understand it when you're on the road for months at a time
Yes, we get ya! It's the little things!😊
So serene❤
❤️ Thanks! It was so lovely to visit!

Can you "wrap" the lower sections of the RV? I was thinking to tell you two when you bought the trailer. Great video of Mono and Lune lakes...been awhile for me.
They do make a 3m clear wrap for vehicles to protect their rocker panels and you could probably do that to a RV too! But they are expensive!
Yes, I wrapped the front end and lower rockers of my Model 3, because CA roads have a lot of rocks.@@IreneIronTravels
Love the music in your videos, can you let us know what they are?
Thanks! Yes, we would love to see that area in the winter time for sure! But not for too long! 🤣
@@IreneIronTravels It's too high to visit in the Winter. Hwy 120 is closed before it starts climbing to Tioga Pass. Summer trip only!
Sounds great!
Looked nice. Love the dogs so cute 🥰
Thank you! 😊
Slow mode with the finished chicken was the end of me as well as the video wow doe that look good Maybe I was just hungry 🤔
🤣 Yes! It was really good!!!! 😋
Oh fun! Have a good time in Yosemite !
🤣 thats too funny! Glad you guys have experienced this area. Such a cool place!
@@IreneIronTravels thanks for your response. I can only imagine the work that goes into running your channel and responding to people.
Travel safe guys.
Hope June is healing nicely.
@yooper6624 thanks 🙏. It is getting harder and harder to respond to every comment, but we try hard especially for the originals! 🙏
Hi. I am new to your channel am am loving getting to see your journeys. Can you tell me the brand of your air fryer? That chicken looked yummy.
Hello 👋 thanks for watching! We have the Cosori brand. 👍
Looks like your solar is dialed. Can you share where you were boondocking? We’re heading up that way 1st of October for end of season.
👍👍 this place was called owens Road In mammoth lakes. Have fun!! www.campendium.com/owens-river-road
If you don't already have one, look into getting a polarizer for your camera. It really helps reduce reflections on windows.
That would help for sure!
Thank you! Love watching your videos!
love the video
What temp do you put your air fryer on for the chicken? Do you preheat the air fryer? Enjoy your videos!
Thanks! We do the chicken at 380. And we’ve never really preheated the air fryer and it doesn’t seem to need that like an oven. 👍👍
+
How often do you clean the solar panels? Walking around that roof should be something to watch.
In the 5 years of full timing with solar panels I've probably only cleaned them a handful of times. Only if they get really dirty, or covered in pollen or similar. A good hard rain helps too!
You should try the Cosori dual blaze air fryer. it cooks top and bottom, evenly.
Oh yeah, I saw that one! Cosori replaced our old one with the same model we had, but I like the idea of the two elements! When this one dies! 👍
Ghost town of BODIE is not to far from Mono Lake.
Hello, enjoy your videos. What temp did you cook the chicken in the air fryer? Looks delish!
380 degrees for 28 min total, flip half way thru!
I edited a typo so check again!
Very nice truck and camper y’all. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. We’ve been going to Mammoth for 20 years now and it never gets old. I probably know all the hidden gems. HMU I’ll be your tour guide 😁
Sooo awesome epik video
What is clamped on the kitchen island?
What happens when you deplete your batteries overnight, will it recharge fully with the AC on the next day?
What was that in the bottom right hand corner of the video

I think that was just the rock boundary of the camping area in the Trona Pinnacles. Here is the full video th-cam.com/video/MABEnL86slo/w-d-xo.html
You missed the best part, South Tufa.
Does Irene do all the driving?
Was that water safe?< I wonder if the doggies would have liked to take a swim? :) So glad you are happy with the new 5th wheel! Y'all have fun!
Im not sure if the water was safe or not! People do boat on there though we know. But our Basenjis don't like the water any ways!🤣 🐶😳 Thanks!!! 😊
Can you post the coordinates of the camping area you stay in, thanks
Yes! www.campendium.com/owens-river-road Normally we like to put them in the description..... but lately I've been just giving it to the people that ask. As our videos continue to grow I want to be conscious of over populating areas. 👍
For even better crispy chicken goodness in an airfryer, add some baking powder to the rub. Thank me later!
Ok so the real question is did the puppies make it through that cool grass path without any ticks?
😂 yes they did make it without any! We haven’t seen any ticks since earlier this summer in the Midwest. 🤞
@@IreneIronTravels awesome!!
We should have! 🤣 It was sooo much food! We wearnt expecting that!
Thanks Kai!
Those are called Sierra pin stripes, we all have them. And its called Mo no lake, not Ma no lake...
Where do you get the music?
WE CAMPED AT JUNE LAKE EVERY YR... BODIE GHOST TOWN IS ABOVE A LITTLE WAYS PAST MONO
Bro why you don't drive? Great video.
Have you been up to lake Sabrina
We haven't.....it looks beautiful!
@@IreneIronTravels we took a ride up there last year in June and it is worth the drive to see it very beautiful up there
Just a question, have y’all had any issues with any crime while your out camping or boondocking?
Not really out in the boondocking areas we have been. But defiantly in campgrounds. We just had both neighbors in an RV park get their bikes stolen.
With boondocking... if you stay away from the big cites you will be fine. So most spots we go to everyone is out there just recreating and camping. If you go to an area (boondocking or campground) by a big city you might run more into petty theft and what not.
@@IreneIronTravels Thank you! Y’all are doing a great job! We are looking to get started soon
That is MO-NO Lake with saying OH after the M and the N. 😉
Thank you! Not like the kissing disease someone else told us! 🤣
Aren’t you afraid of coming back to the trailer and finding it vandalized or stolen?
No. From what we've found over the years...it is pretty safe out in areas like this. The other people are there for the same recreational reasons. ( just make sure you are away from the big cites!)
Also, side note.... our 2 neighbors at an RV park just got their bikes stolen. One was worth 5 grand! 😳
@@IreneIronTravels yeah, see, I think I would boondock but would rarely if ever leave the RV alone like that.
Why does Irene do most of the driving?
Maybe the water just dried up, just kidding 😅
Why am I thinking snakes?
😂 yes! I could see many snakes 🐍 living there! Funny enough, we’ve only seen a couple in all the years out in the boonies!
👍
