Dogs should be leashed for the reasons you stated. We recently had a rott run up to my wife which was scary. Worked with the camp host to get another site

We are leash on dog people. Our dog, Luna, is great. She is friendly and sweet. She doesn't rush dogs, stays by our side, and never barks.
But, she will chase down and kill any squirrel that she sees. Chasing prey is in her DNA and we can control it a bit but it's a lot easier and better for the environment if we keep her on a leash and with us at all times.
Anyway, she wants to be with us all the time. It's no hardship for her.

Team leash, but I had a non leashed labrador attack my little Maltese; I had to kill the Labrador. Had here in his mouth. Knifed him right in the top head. The lady was very angry and crying; why I killed her dog, I said I’m not letting him kill mine.

Unfortunately I think it’s one of those only in Norcal things. We always keep our dog on a leash mostly because SHE’S aggressive. We’ve socialized her from puppyhood but she’s very alpha. So I’ve had to yell at other dogs and their owners to protect their pups. People in CA I’m sorry to say often don’t get rules. Along with $45 dump fees, sadly it gives us a bad rep. Thank you for reminding people to leash their pups.

You may know your dog but you don’t know someone else’s dog. Keep them leashed in these sort of confined spaces for everyone’s safety & enjoyment. Our Gracie is a rescue from questionable background & while she usually likes other dogs we can’t always know. I don’t want her hurt or traumatized. Nuff said! 😊

We had a pit that really didn't like other dogs that much. He was always on a leash. At one spot we were going on a walk and an unleashed dog came running out from a site. That didn't go well for the other dog. I'll never understand people just letting their dogs run. I agree completely with the rant!

Definitely, dogs on leash at all times, even friendly dogs can be a pain, crotch sniffing and “friendly” jumping on you, it’s uncomfortable. I love your idea of keeping certain foods on the counter so you remember to use them! I recently started doing that with potatoes and onions because they would go bad in the pantry as I would forget they were there. Glad to see you are so at home in your new rig! 🤗🤗

Definitely team leash for all the reasons you mentioned. And for those with extendable leashes, please reel them in...giving your dog over 6 feet of "freedom" is same as no leash (we've had several bad encounters while walking our dogs resulting from owners who had no control because they allowed their dog too much leash.) Thank you for talking about the sensitive stuff like this, as well as the fun, the ordinary, and the educational stuff! Hubs & I look forward to your videos every week. Continued safe & happy travels!

our dog is the same as the German Shepherd, she does not start a fight but she will finished if another dog chargers at her. She is protecting us and herself. Drives me crazy when people think it is ok to leave there dogs off leash.

We have a pit that is really reactive especially on leash. She coexists with another pit and cats but reacts horrible when on leash. We have had run-ins with off leash dogs and it's very stressful. My job as her person is to keep her as safe as possible and we've survived these no-leash people for 11yrs +... I will always keep her on leash unless in a safe dog park with limited other dogs. TEAM LEASH!

I totally agree with you. That's my biggest gripe about camping, people not following the leash rules. They think their dog is so well trained but what about the other dog. My dog does not like other dogs and can get aggressive. She loves people. I hope you had a wonderful time in Hope Valley. It's too bad you didn't go there in late October, it's gorgeous in fall. Safe travels!

We have a very similar set-up on our driver's side basement area. I installed one of the Moryde sliding cargo trays (33"x90"). There was room to screw down the Moryde Cord Reel (same as yours) on the left side of the tray, and then put the totes on the other side of the cord reel. It made it SOOOOO much nicer to get to that part of the basement without always having to duck under that baggage door. Something you should consider.
As for the leash rules, I agree with you. I think a lot of dog owners are arrogant and don't even TRY to follow the rules. Even if you have the best behaved dog in the world, you can't control OTHER dogs (like charging). You are 100% right on this. Thanks for the video!

  • @FloridaNativeMike
    @FloridaNativeMike 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

So true! Off leash dogs are what gets dogs kicked out of places completely. I know of great areas that once allowed dogs on leash but they couldn’t control the off leash dogs and now have to prohibit dogs completely. Off-leashers should stop ruining it for everyone else.

keep 'em on a leash for other people's safety, but most importantly for your pet's safety. your pup may not be aggresive, just protective. and if someone is or reasonably feels threatened, it may end badly for the dog.

For your Microwave dish, cut a pool noodle just long enough to stick between the plate and the ceiling of the microwave for travel, keeps the dish in place and you dont have to hunt for the magic spot where the place drops into place every time you stop, works great, Thanks to somebody else for the great idea I cant remember who to give the credit to!

We were at Donner Memorial State park just north of North Tahoe recently and at least 10 dogs were off leash. One was doing his business very close to our site and owner never bothered to check. That to me was purposeful. We also had two dogs run out to our dog which some times gets scared when approached to quickly because she was badly mauled in the past. Just leash your dog for everyone’s safety.

I’m really not a dog lover and I respect people who are but I believe all dogs should be kept on a leash. There’s nothing I hate more than people who allow there dogs to run free to other campers space and let them start jumping on people and going into their campers. We follow the rules wherever we are for sure. But our dogs won't poop on leash. It's super annoying but it is what it is, and we've learned to adjust. We find a little area away from others (because they refuse to poop in the little gated area we create for them everywhere we go) and tell them it's time to potty and let them off leash for the couple minutes it takes to get it done then we clean it up. They know to stay right where we are so we don't ever miss it. We have a shepherd/Healer mix and a Pitt/Shepherd mix. But I totally agree that you can't predict how any dog with respond to another. You need to be responsible and keep them on a leash or contained in their RV yard.

Sorry about your off leashed dog experience!
We have been regularly RVing since 1987 and 100% agree with you.
We too have experienced this issue, but usually in public campgrounds, not RV parks. The worst was a NF campground near Mt. Hood, where there were many off leash dogs, including aggressive pit bulls (not to say all pit bulls are aggressive, but these were).
BTW, we've camped at Hope Valley, but it has been 25 years since we've been there.

Some beautiful boon docking you all are accomplishing in that big 5th wheel. Literally on the first day of ownership with mine we slid off a small mountain road into a tree on a small dirt road in a campground (minamal damage thank goodness). Camp host sent us where we should never have gone at a campground near tahoe. Took hours to get the trailer turned around and back down the mountain. Ever since then I have stuck to big rig friendly rv parks. I'm just too paranoid.

We have had way too many encounters with this and we have to physically get between the dogs... Not a great position to be in...

Leash for sure. Having two small breed dogs, I am definitely loud if I see a dog off leash. I don’t like those flimsy fences either. We all know any dog that wants too can just jump right over those. I have had to grab up Irving many times when greeted by another dog. Since I have Willow now, I just get LOUD.

Yesterday I had a dog off leash charge me and the dogs. I screamed at it and lunged and it scared the dog off. Then I’m screaming who’s dos is this. The guy was two rows over, says I’ve been trying to get him. I say “you’re not doing a very good job.” I took the dog inside and called the ranger, I’m at Verde Valley TT. I was still rushing with Adrenalin. That the first off leash I’ve had as confrontation with. Thanks for heightening my awareness.

Such a sign of how society is today, the Me - All about Me attitude. Bright lights, dogs off leash, trash, poop, etc! FYI: Look into partially opening slides. We’ve had issues with ours a Tiffin 2021 Class A but prob same maker, Lippert. They and RV techs have told us never partially open or close. It throws them out of synch. Very important to even hold button a second after completely open or closed to make sure both sides are equal.

Another good tested product I got from Amazon is quake hold/ museum putty. It has held all my plants in place during driving, no more having to pack those up during trips. For the microwave tray, we have one of those carry cooler bags like a padded tote bag and the glass plate goes in that in a lower drawer or under sink during travel so there's no flying glass Frisbee like our beginning trips 😂

Microwave Frisbee!! This just happened to us on our 2nd day of travel on a brand new RV and new RV travelers. Glass shattered everywhere and that’s not the worst of it…..a few shards slid deep under the slide and far away from the scene of the crime. And tonight we have a great big brand new tear in the floor. Officially one week ownership.
Not to mention a shelf in pantry falling apart and wall in bedroom breaking away
      😢😢. Sigh…..
How the heck does the microwave door open so the glass can go flying in the first place?????

I think that in public places keeping your dog on a leash is a great idea. Remember how close your dog gets to other dogs before the dog goes off. So if you have a retractable leash, vs 6’ leash this can be a real problem. I’m in the no retractable leash camp.
Dogs parks, not a great idea to have them on a leash.
Out hiking maybe some off leash. Recall is everything it could cost your dog and you. So you have to pay attention on leash or off leash.

I was walking my dog in a campground and someone opened the door and let their dog out (presumably to hook him up), but the dog - some sort of bulldog - came at my dog (a German Shepherd). You find out how far you will go to protect your baby! I started screaming and kicking this dog away from my dog. I was ticked! They apologized, but I was very angry. If your dog charges other dogs, hook them up before you open the door!!

Omg Irene your lips my ears. I have had huge stress due to dogs off leash and cats loose in camp grounds with collars. Well, my dogs go nuts. Bud got loose one morning as I was casually drinking a cup of coffee at 5 am and walking my big guy. He ran through the underneath of about 6 rvs. I was shocked at the amount of damage he caused. Interesting that all owners were expecting the dog owner to pay, not the cat owner. I paid 50% and there were hard feelings. This is the shit that happens when people are not responsible.

Wow, it looks like you guys are enjoying your time in California. You've found some great locations. As for the leash issue, I'm for Team Leash for all the reasons you mentioned. Maybe this "let them run free" is a California thing. We stayed at a very pricey, $140 a night, RV "Resort" on the Central Coast of CA, Flying Flags Avila Beach, and in spite of them having the leash rule, it was routinely ignored by our fellow campers. The adjacent RV to us had their dog on a 30' tie out. Nice enough dog, but he would go under their RV and hangout on our patio. Our dogs didn't take to kindly to this interloper. We talked to management, and our neighbors shortened the tie out somewhat, when they used it. Many times he was just loose. We also had a few instances while walking through the campground when loose dogs would charge us from their campsite. Management was not enforcing their own leash rule, even after we talked to them. It really spoiled our stay there, and we won't be going back. We've been in all the western States over the past 20 years, and have never encountered this before. Rant over. Thanks for sharing your great content. I was impressed with Chris carrying that propane bottle in your recent short.💪

100% for dogs on leash. We have a rescue who does not like other dogs. It amazes me how many people will let their dogs come right up on top of her/us. Even people with dogs on leash will allow them to get on top of us. Very frustrating.

The Berkey water filters use silver to kill bacteria and that causes them to be so expensive. The knock offs most likely don't have silver and are less effective at killing bacteria in the water. So you may want to be a little more cautious drinking water from the fresh tank even after filtering with the cheaper filters.

    • @chrisschiel6741
      @chrisschiel6741 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

The silver is why California deemed Berkey not safe. At this point why would anyone believe California.
That said I don't understand why Berkey does not get it tested and get NSF certified. They say it is not cost effective. That's BS, we use a Berkey and love it but they are WAY OVERPRICED for what they are.
This is from the Berkey website.
The Black Berkey® Replacement Element formulation has been tested by State and EPA accredited laboratories to exceed NSF/ANSI Standard 53.

Totally agree with dog rant. We were at Pensacola beach last week at a beach dog park. Everyone had dogs on leash one guy had his dog off leash running the beach our dog Willy who is generally calm but when he sees a unleashed dog running makes him go nuts as well as disrupting the nice flow of all surrounding g dogs. I was pissed and owner could care less. Well to our surprise a ranger came up to the guy threw him off beach. It’s posted all over beach dogs must be leashed. Nice when rules are enforced.

Definitely team leash--I had a nervous Border Collie for 13 years that first of all was bullied in a dog park (when she was a puppy) by a huge angry mutt with a negligent owner who couldn't be bothered to care, and who from then on didn't get along with other dogs. I don't know how many times (countless) I heard "I don't know why my dog would lunge at your dog like that--(s)he's NEVER done that before--(s)he's well-trained so clearly the problem is with your dog," etc. Also, I don't know how many (again, countless) times I've seen signs for lost dogs in large acreage parks or forested areas where a dog ran after a deer or other animal and didn't come back. So much for well-trained. There are definite issues with leashes, but if you're aware of your dog(s), you're of aware of what those might be (territory protection for one), and the leashes keep your animal close so you can deal with and protect them too. I could beat your 10 minute rant by about 30 more but yup, I agree. (And thanks for your video!)

Team Leash. Being a retired dog show person with Great Danes, the first thing you learn is keep your dog on a leash at all times. So, now with an Australian Labradoodle, she never goes loose anywhere. It is a problem at campgrounds. You can't blame the animal, but the owners. I don't want my dog to have a bad experience with another dog. I agree with 100% of the comments.
