To join, or not to join the Straw Hat Pirates? That's the billion berry question asked of nearly every character newly introduced in One Piece. And the answer is very rarely yes. In a story spanning real world decades, featuring over a thousand named characters, only a handful have accompanied Luffy on his quest thus far. In today's video, we're finally going to address the rabbit who lives on top of the elephant in the room. Is Carrot is going to join the Straw Hat Pirates? Despite recent developments, I still believe she will sail away with the crew aboard Thousand Sunny. If you feel differently, that's okay! I'd love to hear your thoughts, but hear me out, because I just might be able to convince you.
Pedro was born too late to join Roger and too early to join Luffy, but he nevertheless made ready the path for the future Pirate King. He passed on his will to Carrot, stressing to her the critical role Luffy and his crew are going to play in fulfilling the Minks' long held prophecy of a coming New Dawn. Pedro passed on Roger's words, "every person has their time to shine," adding his own corollary, "keep moving forward!"
It's quite possible we'll soon have two new crewmembers in the form of Yamato and Carrot as we prepare to enter the final saga, which makes this a very exciting time to be a One Piece fan!

I agree that there are other viable candidates to protect Zou right now and that Carrot isn't yet ready for that responsibility.

I truly believe that Carrot will join the Straw Hat crew.
I actually think that chapter 1057 will focus on Yamato joining and then 1058 will focus on Carrot.
I've always theorized that 1058 will be a Carrot themed chapter.
After all 1058 = (Jugoya|十五夜).
Jugoya is another way of saying Moon-viewing (月見/Tsukimi).
Which is also theme around the Moon festival.

If Yamato does join and the scene takes inspiration from Oden, the analogue would only be complete if Carrot stowed away like Inu / Neko.
(I changed my opinion on this, Carrot joining in 1058 chapter makes complete sense and I fully agree with it now.) No I think 1057 both will focus on Yamato and Carrot joining the crew at the same time, along with possibly Vivi as well.
and 1058 will be the last chapter to come out before tsukimi (September 10th)
I agree with this, especially after seeing the theories on Carrot, Twilight Bunny theory, Towa no mi and the number 8 and buddhism and the snow moon rabbit symbolism of Carrot. Except 1057...you'll see, haha. I changed my opinion above, my bad. 1058 actually is the perfect chapter number for Carrot to join the crew and get more focus again solely to her in every possible and conceivable way.

This video is insanely impressive. I've been arguing that Carrot will indeed join for years on reddit and youtube lol and with that I've gone through every chapter that Carrot or even a lookout was hinted at, mentioned in, or appeared, even outside sources like the SBS and mythology. I've never come across someone who knew so many details that I know about her candidacy like even the parallel between Luffy going after Kaido and Carrot going after Perospero, so I really know the amount of research that went into this. Great work!
I also want to add that when Carrot goes after Perospero, Marco tells Big Mom that Whitebeard's wishes do not bind them and they are free to do as they please, to which Big Mom responds "Dead men give no orders..." to Marco, representing how Carrot is binded to the idea that she must get revenge for Pedro. Also, the fodder in the background tell Luffy to "Go onward!" Pedro's famous words. Lastly, while Carrot is going to fight for the wrong reasons, revenge for someone who willingly died, Luffy is going to fight for the freedom of his living friends.
For Carrot's ties to mythology and Oda, all of her big chapters or mentions of rabbits occur in volumes or chapters with the number 8. Chapter 888 (Sulong), Volume 8 and 58's author notes discuss rabbits, and Volume 88 is the sulong volume with Carrot on the cover. This is because 8 is a lucky number and luck is commonly associated with rabbits in Japan. She might even join in 1058.
Oda's zodiac sign is also a rabbit which he has mentioned a few times before, most recently in his interview with the mangaka of Detective Conan. He has even incorporated some of the stereotypical rabbit zodiac traits into Carrot's character like artistry, alertness, swiftness, enthusiasm, and her kindness

I always thought that the only thing missing with Carrot was the grand goal, and maybe becoming a better,stronger leader for Zou might be the one
Excellent video! I have been a Carrot supporter ever since her sulong was revealed because I loved the reference to the Ozaru in Dragon Ball. I also love her childish personality that would make her fit perfectly in the crew. I was scared that her few screentime in Onigashima would affect her but the last chapter gave me hope again that she'll join the straw hats
Carrot's only moment during all of Wano was her facing down the man responsible for Pedro's death and getting absolutely bodied and told go crawling back to where she came from. If she returns to Zou now, she would only be proving Perospero right. Her story CANNOT end there. She needs to go out to sea and toughen up to be the Queen Zou deserves.
I ADORE Yamato, but Oda is jebaiting everyone. He's telegraphed Yamato joining way too hard for like five weeks straight, and after reiterating Green Bulls point about how Kaido kept predators away from Wano, I believe Yamato has realized that if he leaves with Luffy, he'd only be repeating Oden's mistakes. When Oden left and came back, he came back to Kaido and Orochi. Yamato is free now, he can leave Wano whenever he wishes, but I believe that until Momo can well and truly look after Wano on his own, Yamato is going to stay and BE the name that keeps outside forces from attacking Wano. After all, who would DARE cross the son of Kaido? He even declared it right to Green Bull's face, and GB is absolutely going to spread the word.
Nah, see I think that makes too much sense. Narratively it's makes too much sense for Yamato to realise Wano desperately needs her help right now so it won't happen.
I fully agree! Carrot will join the crew. Even after the recent chapter 1056 events in which people are saying she for sure is not joining they think. I think 1056 when you read it further proves she will join for sure actually and is setup for a character arc of self discovery and personal desire soon. She's gonna follow Luffy and find out her needs and wants real soon and true purpose in life with Pedro as a starting point and major drive along with her own desires on what she wants in life. The minks are very important to the story and Carrot is the mink Oda wants us to care about and the leader of the minks next generation. Bunny white rabbit lore and the moon and more, theres too much evidence of Carrot will join the straw hats no matter what the story is tricking us and saying or what people say. Its obvious with how Oda handles her that Carrot will join the Straw hat crew and was always destined to do so.

I never expected Carrot to join. However, her role in Wano also didn't feel like enough to conclude her character arc in a satisfying way, and the current "conclusion" that we reached in chapter 1056 feels so out of place that I can't deny there's a possibility that there's more to be told with Carrot. She didn't grow into leadership, and Pedro's words for her, "keep moving forward", "everyone has a time to shine", do not feel fulfilled.
So, I'm at least intrigued. I don't see her joining, at least yet, but I also don't see her character arc as done.
Same sentiments. That line from Pedro resonates to me as well. I find the conclusion in 1056 cheap and not good enough for her. Pedro's will looks lame if she ends up bulking the minks and joining as an alliance in the final arc. We still want to know how she'll master sulong, have "more time" than pedro and maybe surpass pedro, and the journey of neko and dogstorm. As we can all recall those two leaders are stowaways too! 😁 I think the growth she needs and the line keep moving forward from Pedro matches with the concept of her traveling more, and gaining more and more experience not in isolated moving island at the back of a huge elephant 😆 but thru joining the SHP
Yeah, the way that scene was written was very interesting. Not only did Carrot correctly note that Inu and Neko's decision was misguided, she didn't actually accept - or even have the final word on the matter. Inu and Neko simply assumed it was a done deal and happily proclaimed they're leaving Zou to the next generation, but the last we saw, Carrot was left thinking about "Pedro..."
If anything, I think the intention of the scene was to make Carrot really think deeply about Pedro's actual will, which she indeed inherited.
I agree that Pedro's words really do not lead well into her taking over as her people's ruler.
I just don't think it works on any level.
On a character level, Carrot has bonded with the crew and wants to see the world. Perospero told her she was too weak and shouldn't have ever left home. So sending her back home to be a sort of figurehead leader with Wanda acting as the brains and Shishilian the muscle, burdened with a responsibility she clearly doesn't want isn't a satisfying end to her journey. Add onto that, Oda didn't really do anything to establish her as a leader / commander of her people. You can even see it in this scene - she's still impulsive and immature.
Her arc cant go anymore significant like that unless she does actually join, so yeah
@@StrawHatJedi To further the conversation, I do think that in the future, she will become the ruler of Zou, as an experienced and worthy one at that, but only once she is there to witness "the dawn" that Pedro has been waiting for.
@@StrawHatJedi If she was to become ruler of Zou, joining Luffy's crew and finishing the journey will help her grow more and understand the words of Pedro that were left to her. Only then, will her final fate as ruler of Zou be a satisfying conclusion. But now....not yet. Too early.

I am an advent Carrot fan. Which is why I have my hopes so very low for her to join. Because if it doesn't happen, I don't want it to hit me hard lol. But I do want her to join. A Lookout is an important role, which Carrot can easily handle.
I still think that both Carrot and Yamato are gonna join ths straw hats, i can see alot of potencial on both characters having a really good interaction with the powers they have, also they could make a great teamwork while fighting.
Remember what hmk said after the sora smash reveal: "never stop believing, whenever people look to you to kill your hype and your hope, you look back ans say no and you keep believing , because sometimes when you shatter your wishes into the void, the void looks back and smiles". I may be a random quote but it really inspire me to not giving up my hope and wishes for something that i wanna do or something to become a reality, the sora smash reveal was one of them and this this is also one of the things i hope it happends, if not that's' fine. When we get that answer, that's it for me, im gonna be open mind and still enjoy watching the anime.
They could definitely both join; If Yamato's joining is anything like Oden sailing away with Whitebeard / Roger, the analogue isn't really complete if Carrot doesn't stow away like Inu & Neko.

Just here to say sense there’s no anime reviews that congratulations on 1084 in the anime. Carrot officially got an animated goodbye scene with the straw hats she sailed with during WCI.
It’s been 8 long years sense she appeared in the manga. And now she finally got a proper goodbye scene. It was honestly poetic and well done from the toei animation staff.
Answers are finally found and now closure can come at long last. It was a hard fought one boys but GG. Tie a nice ribbon on the top of it and call it a night. Shut off all the lights and time to close up shop on this. Close the page in this book at long last and let it fade into the past.
Pedro’s will came full circle and your favorite little rabbit is where she’s was always meant to be. Like it was always meant to be. God bless oda and god bless the anime team. Oda put too much time into her to just leave her in the position the last chapter set up for her. He didn't need to spend a third of the chapter on something that could've been one textbox as Carrot saw the crew off and honestly I'll be incredibly depressed if we really just leave her on Zou until the final war.

I feel as if Carrot might pull off what Rebecca and Scarlett did to Viola to Wanda and runoff to hide in one of the crates that one of the straw hats might carry. With how they mentioned Pedro's will it was just so, unrelated considering that ruling the Minks wasn't what Pedro wanted Carrot to do. Maybe Zoro as he wouldn't think much of it, merely shrugging off how heavier the crate he was currently carrying or maybe he didn't want to startle Carrot and will just wait for her explanation to the crew on why she snuck on a second time.
all in all I am a firm believer on Carrot joining. I WILL ALWAYS BELIEVE IN MY BELOVED ALICE IN WONDERLAND!!!

After read 1057 spoiler i'm gonna say Carrot may join the crew.
1. I still believe SHP will have 1 on 1 battle with Blackbeard and 10 titanic captains. And SHP still need 1 more crew. After Yamato say she/he will stay at Wano then Carrot rn have the biggest chance to join. And i think it's just too late to introduce new character to become nakama at this point. So yeah Carrot now have biggest chance.
2. Carrot maybe will reject Neko and Inu offer to become ruler of Zou because she want to see Dawn of the World and then sneak to Sunny again.
I think it's very important we don't get our hopes up. I'm definitely team carrot but it feels like her time has passed. I've got my finger crossed for that she says she wants to help the SHs bring the dawn before she accepts.

I know as of 1056, Carrot is being teased as the next in line as the protector of Zou; the job that Neko and Inu had. If that's the end of her story I wouldn't be to mad, since it seems like a good job for her to have. Although I do not buy the current explanation for it. While Carrot certainly has grown over the course of WCI and Wano, it's hard to imagine she is strong enough for such an important task. In fact I doubt even her coming up with a well coordinated maneuver is impossible.
If Carrot does join the Straw Hats the only scenario I see it occurring is if she is a stowaway again. I find it odd that we don't see any of the minks boarding up Zou, and leaving. One of the most common tropes in storytelling is fakeouts, and the most common device to indicate this trope is not showing the body. It's possible by just showing Zou leaving, and no specific characters is indicating a fake out on Oda's part. However again that just an idea, and may not actually happen.
At this point I am just on the ride of One Piece, I will not be too mad if the scenarios in my mind don't come to pass. Holding sentimental value to headcanon will just lead to disappointment, and bad faith criticism.
With that said great video, and I agree with a majority of the observations made.

Each Nakama within the three acts of the series come in fours even though Oda written for ten people to help Luffy. I believe Oda plans on changing ten to thirteen crew members. Act One: Zoro, Ussop, Nami, and Sanji. Act Two: Chopper, Robin, Franky, and Brook. Now finally Act Three: Jinbei, Vivi (officially), Carrot, and either Boonie, Stussy, Lilith (Vega Punk), or a giant from Elbaf. As much it would be cool for Yamato to join the crew, she's not joining the main crew but the alliance factor unfortunately.

Good question! I don't think it means anything. The film would've started production 2 - 3 years ago and her being in the film would have probably prematurely signaled her joining, which I don't think Oda would want to have spoiled.
This would totally go along with the Straw Hat Chinese Zodiac theory.
I think carrot will probably stowaway on the ship to gain more experience to be a good leader for zou in the future and that in combination with pedros dream of sailing with the pirate king to see the dawn of the new era.
I abhor the character yamato, I heard she wasn't joining and I haven't been so badly since rubbin joined instead of weak whinning vivi.

The fact that Blackbeard has 10 commandsrs specifically probably means Luffy will match so that all the SH get one on one fights.

It's possible that Carrot is a child of prophecy and was always destined to become the next ruler of the Mink tribe. Though I imagine Carrot will still want to join the Strawhat crew to gain experience and bring back knowledge of the new world.
This will be important for Carrot, as her Arcana for the longest time had only been "The Fool". Signifying how much she had to learn of the world outside, while looking for new experiences she couldn't obtain back on Zou. If some people are right that she has snuck aboard again to officially join the crew, then this will mark her ascendence to "The Moon" Arcana. Gaining insight that her people have become ignorant and estranged from due to their isolation. Truly Carrot's goal of joining the crew isn't just important to her so she can satisfy her desires to see the world. It will be important for her people going forward in order to reconnect with the world.

The truth is that Carrot's role is almost nonexistent in Wano. We almost forgot that she was in Wano.
The newest chapter completely destroys this video and any TH-camrs theory of Carrot joining Luffys crew in a million pieces and i was 100% dead RIGHT about Carrot not joining regardless since she is back at Zou like i predicted since the Wano filler episode BEFORE the Wano arc was done on the Anime version.
Yeah, I was (probably.... definitely.... probably.... okay, no, definitely (probably)) wrong about Carrot joining. I was disappointed by the way her story played out.

I'm glad you highlight that Neko effectively "freed" Carrot of her path to vengeance against Perospero. Carrot needed to realise that revenge against Perospero would not aid or facilitate the coming of the New Dawn, or the ascension of the next Pirate King, Luffy. It was a distraction that needed to be removed from her path moving forward. I am sure Carrot will reflect on this and realise, she needs to follow the Straw Hats, she cannot do that or witness the New Dawn if she becomes the Zou Duchess. I think Neko and Inu realise this, and are pushing her to make that choice, to follow Pedro's Will that was passed down to her.
Also something ALOT of people overlook with Carrot during the Onigashima Raid. If not for her and Wanda, Marco almost definitely would have been killed by Big Mom.

@@HiddenForbidden2 Most definitely, but then haters rarely, if ever, look at the bigger picture. Without Carrot, Marco would have died and the raid may well have failed. The heroes always grow more from losing than they do from winning.

I never minded Yamato. She has a nice enough design and personality, yet she never did anything much to stick out to me.
At this point I'm actually glad Yamato didn't join. Not because of her, but because of her insufferable fans.
The worst any of us will do is state that we think Carrot's story ending here doesn't make sense and then we'd go back to enjoying the rest of the story.

Thing is her becoming the leader of the Minks makes literally zero sense. There is no justifying the nonsense of Carrot leading an entire nation because she sailed the sea one time.
The last chapter was obviously a ruse and tricking the audience, shes gonna postpone and reject the role being given to her. Look at how apprehensive and nervous Carrot is, shes not ready for it.

Like Clifford said and my knowledge of 1057, I think Carrot will join the Straw Hats in 1058 chapter. Especially when you watch the Twilight Bunny theory and Towa Towa no mi hints for Carrot and the importance of number 8 to Carrot in the story and Buddhism connection to the Moon Rabbit and her. The now famous video of her is on here made by the Goat Gabira rat, please check him out and his amazing videos. Great job from you here as well, Straw Hat Jedi. An excellent video I fully agree with yet again, all the signs are there for Carrot and always been, more than every Straw Hat. In the manga Carrot will be the 10th straw hat, we might even get a chapter saying the "ninth and tenth" just like the past straw hats did and especially the chapter title like that when Usopp and Franky both properly joined in Post Enies Lobby on Water 7. Go read those early volume chapter titles again to see what I'm talking about, Brook was called "the Eighth" all the way back then at the end of Thriller Bark, post Binks Sake and his sad tragic backstory.

Im not holding my breath
Carrot wil most likely join the crew and show up in chapter 1059 in a few weeks. I predict based on the coming chapter and recent Reverie events and news, that the last 3 straw hats, Carrot, Hancock and Vivi will all join at once in chapter 1059. Especially after seeing a certain scene happen in 1058 coming out, you'll see when you get there. Carrot joining the crew is purposely being delayed.
I certainly hope so, but Oda has been writing complete nonsense lately. I wouldn't expect the story to make sense logically anymore.

Carrot is still gonna join the straw hats and probably now in the Year of the Rabbit which is Oda's zodiac birth year, her arc to join is the slow and overtime. Gabiru put out a video on how Carrot has a CP9 past with Lucci and now he is in the arc at egghead. 8 is important to Carrot as a character thanks to chapter 888 in volume 88. Carrot debuted in volume 80, and will be the 10th crewmate and has the 10 towa DF theory connected to her thanks to Gabiru. I fully expect Carrot to show up again in chapter 1080 coming up and show up in April in Easter this year during the Year of the Rabbit and Oda's been slowly waiting for this since the Wano strange intentional cliffhanger that he's still fooled us with and fans to this day. Dont give up because shes most likely coming back very soon and was being saved for this moment. Carrot will return.

But both Carrot and Momonosuke (I bring Momo in 'cause to me they seem to be similar) have potential to be great but can't really control their forms yet (SuLong and Dragon Devil Fruits ).
Both have dependable followers way experienced and battle hard (Musketeers/Guardians and Scabbards ) who can guide them and most likely both are without a doubt SH sworn allies.
I can't really see how and why Oda will try to add Carrot and it doesn't seem likely in my opinion.
Although, the next 2-3 chapters will be crucial on what Oda decides to do.
1056 is an obvious trick to the reader, Oda is fooling the audience and gonna have Carrot reject the duke role. She's nervous and not ready, shes gonna reflect on what she wants and go follow Yamato to Luffys crew and join him. Read between the lines my man.

Which is far more than anyone can say about Yamato. Why add Carrot? A better question would be why make her the leader of an entire nation when she has no known leadership qualities and was never characterized as such in the first place? Even if you don't like Carrot,anyone can see that her suddenly becoming a leader would make literally zero sense.
