You both are awesome. Magic and Pokemon have such great communities. And I see how much care and just joy people are to one another when looking through binders or boosters. You guys are leaders of both communities thank you for letting us enjoy these cards you guys show off all the time.
I'd love to see Prof have a conversation with Cimo, or even MBT (especially since he's played both games) and get their perspectives on both games and how they play especially in a competitive sense.
@@M3WT-va Cimo clearly watches the Prof, since several times he used some of his phrases, like "don't buy x buy this singles instead" or "support your LGS"
I used to play Pokemon competitively. The Pokemon company has a leg up on MTG in a couple of aspects. Having a code card in every physical product and the ability to trade packs and singles online without using real world money is miles ahead of Magic. Their tournament structure and pathway to world championships is much better than how WOTC does. However, the first time I played Commander, I was hooked on Magic.
Yea I've been saying this since I started playing mtg. The fact that wotc wants arena to be a huge part of the game and even the main platform for the game, they NEED to put code cards in packs and allow trading among players but wotc has dug a very deep greedy hole and for a while I thought the community wasn't with it.....but people still keep feeding into the anti consumer tactics they have employed more so in the last five years
@@samhhhhh how is giving players the ability to trade bad in any capacity for the players? They are getting rid of it but they're also introducing a crafting system as well to replace it
@@vehicledestroyer People get scammed a lot, it's confusing for new players, it reduces profits for the company which in turn disincentivizes fixing problems and improving the client, not being able to get a card right away and having to go through the system for it, meta cards being unobtainably expensive, so on. I like trading for a number of reasons, and I've definitely benefited more than most from it, but it does have downsides for the playerbase as a whole. Also it's silly how much time I've spent trading rather than just playing the game, which isn't what it should be about. "Every Pokemon is somebody's favorite" That is so true. I get annoyed when people throw shade when someone says their favorite is some legendary or pseudo-legendary, but everyone has their favorite and they are all equally legitimate. Dragonite is my all-time favorite, but Dewgong has a special place in my heart. Thanks for all the great content Prof.
This question needs be clarified when asked. Competitive battlers think you only like a mom for being broken, some fans think Mythics being normal game fav's isn't fair. The question should be who is fav pokemon based on Looks alone/combat/Event exclusive Mythics included. For me, Hitmonlee is my favorite mon. But battlewise it's clefable. IF I'm including Mythics, Celebi is my favorite but it always needs to be said with an asterisk (so I'm not excluding people who missed tthe last event for it). Missing an event mythic and seeing it for a year in battles sucks.
Leonhart is super passionate about pokemon cards, but I wouldn't say that he is a great voice for any conversation on things like competitive or really any pokemon play. I look to folks like Azul and Andrew Mahone (TrickyGym) as folks I would love to see you talk to one day Prof about those sorts of things~ Amazing content as always though!
Agreed. Azul and Andrew have a wealth of competitive knowledge that extends far beyond their active years in the game because they’re so passionate about exploring older formats and how the game has changed and stayed the same throughout the years. In addition to that, Andrew has spearheaded the Gym Leader Challenge format to bridge the gap between fans of Magic’s Commander and Pokémon TCG! I highly suggest anyone who is in both the worlds of Pokémon and Magic to check that format out!
Id even add ptcg radio, an amazing person for both the collectible and trading card game of pokemon. Hell, even a newer tcg youtuber like frosted karibou would be a better choice as she also knows boths sides of the tcg. Now this isn't to bash on Leonheart, he is an amazing person and if probably the best person you can pick when it comes to collecting but i would argue that for the actual game, he would certainly not be the best choice to put it bluntly.
I work at a card shop and I will say there’s no game even close to pulling money better then Pokémon if you can get your hands on bulk of Pokémon cards Even cards that are just pennies you can make thousands easily , this is because Pokémon cards are trending hard right now and it’s only because of this reason Pokémon is in the lead for making money at this present time .
My daughter was into Pokemon until she realized how bad the fake cards problem was and that she had traded so many authentic cards for fakes. She was heartbroken and never fully got over it. It was sad because I was learning to play to support her interest and found out that the game was more interesting than I expected. But she tried MtG and was hooked, commander in particular.
So Pokemon Co. reprints one of the most sought after Charizard cards and the old version still commands a much higher price. This is also done in the comic book industry. Would have liked more conversation to highlight this & the contrast with the reserved list; these reprints are done in a TCG that is even more focused on collectors! Even more evidence that the reserved list is an obsolete relic based on superstition.
I don't want mtg to be like Pokemon. The reserved list keeps insanely op cards out of reach of the average player. The last thing I want is to be playing against Black Lotus, Ancestral Recall, and Moxen on a regular basis. And btw if wotc ever reprints the duals it will be in a secret lair that will probably end up costing more than the revised versions.
As a casual player of both, Magic is a mechanically superior game. But the Pokemon TCG Online game is MILES better than Magic Arena, in almost every way
@@enzossauroYT nah the fact that players can trade among themselves and that pkmn has pack codes in their product makes them for sure way ahead of mtg as far as digital platforms go
@@vehicledestroyer yeah, magic doesn't have pack codes, but are you familiar with magic online? Players CAN trade amongst themselves, and pretty much every other feature is in mtgo as well, its a spetacular platform when considered ((recent wizards standards))
@@enzossauroYT I'm aware of mtgo and Im also aware it has one of the worst clients ever. UI is awful, clunky, and crowded. It is very dated but otherwise would be an ideal digital platform for the game if it were more accessible. They did recently (like a couple days ago I believe) say that mtgo was getting a new dev and hopefully that will bring it up to speed as far as functionality.
@@enzossauroYT MTGO is good if you are looking for the authentic magic experience online. But calling it a good platform is a far shot, it still looks like a programm from the early 2000s and is riddled with bugs. And honestly, unless you have an active friend group on MTGO, you'll most likely trade with bots by big stores, who basically control the market.
Fuck yeah, those things are cool. I inherited my older cousins' pokemon cards from way back, ended up with 4 of those. I have 3 now, cause I gave one to a friend, but they're probably the coolest looking individual cards in my collection.
That thing was so cool. Me and my sister both had one, but we lost it in a house fire. I remember being shocked that Ash **died**. I don't even know how old I must have been.
Anecdotal story relevant to 15:30 - When I was grade-school age, my aunt pushed hard to get us to stop playing Pokemon at home and at school. My mother was actually the one that calmed her down (she played DnD at school in the 80's and faced quite a bit of scrutiny for it). I think this event made it easier to play MtG later on in life.
When discussing vintage Pokemon cards it's important to understand that they are nonviable as gamepieces being completely outclassed by modern cards. This is unlike MtG where we want reprints of classic cards because they are often still VERY GOOD which is not the case in Pokemon (or Yugioh outside of outliers like Pot of Greed).
There are some broken vintage Pokemon cards, you could argue that Base Set was way more broken than current Standard, but that was solved with rule changes/new types of cards. Even though current Standard is probably the most broken and un-fun format this game has ever seen.
@@yaginku I guess I forgot about Bill and Computer Search lol. Honestly it's been a while since I've played Pokemon so I'm talking out of my ass a bit. I just remember playing again for the first time in years and seeing you didn't even need to evolve Pokemon now and they have 2-3x the hp and attack power they used to. Shivan Dragon -> Goldspan Dragon is some serious power creep but Pokemon felt on another level to me.
@@yaginku OTOH if you like MTG Vintage-like gameplay and don't have a Vintage group or the $ to spend on Vintage cards the Expanded format is a good substitute. I like how fast and combo-y you can get with decks in that format, and there's viable decks for other play styles as well.
To correct Leon at about 12:06, Keiji Kinebuchi was the illustrator of the original energies. You can look at older prints to confirm this. They stopped crediting him in the Expedition era. He also did the illustration that we still see on the back of every North American Pokémon card since the beginning and lots of the earliest 3D Pokémon illustrations. Arita confirmed in a TH-cam livestream that Kinebuchi has been deceased for some time. May he Rest In Peace and his contributions not be forgotten. ❤️
Love how wholesome this conversation was. As a teacher myself in Norway, I have nothing but good things to say about how the Pokemon cards have bridged the gap between several students of all kinds who normally would never even have talked or played with each other. Sure, there is the occasional disagreement or conflict over a trade but that's where we as adults step in to guide them through the process to find common ground, just like any kind of after-school activity. Keep up the good work with these "crossover videos" and may I suggest covering Dragonball, Vanguard or Digimon next?
This is a great episode for me. I've played MTG since revised, my 7 year old son recently got into Pokemon. He and I got a couple decks and learned to play. He has gotten some more cards, but has now admitted that he is much more interested in collecting the cards he likes rather than in playing the game. Which is a little sad, because I am hoping to teach him magic (obviously), but he still loves plenty of other games; chess, ticket to ride junior, karuba, blokus...so, we will get there :)
I watched until the end and... wasn't expecting the opportunity. Never underestimate creators, I've spent thousands thanks to them and can also say I bought many MTG products thanks to the Professor here. This month I bought my first Pokémon packs and I just subscribed to Leonhart :)
I’m a Magic guy, but Leonhart’s story of getting his Charizard graded and it getting lost in the mail came across my radar. Very interesting set of videos he has regarding how the process went and how he handled it. Great video, Prof! 👍
I've been playing the Pokemon TCG on and off since it started and I just last year got into magic. I'm having a blast playing both and it's great to see some positivity from both communities!
As a long time MTG player who this year decided to return to Pokémon, it's delightful to see the communities starting to enjoy sharing space with one another! It's long since been said that Yugioh and Magic don't coexist well, but it's still delightful to know that someone can have a deck for every game and have amazing people to play with all around the world no matter what!
It's more a highschool level thing. Kids only have so much money and if some kids show up with a different card game, you may lose players. Everyone in the school basically needs to play the same game, or you have no pool of players. When it became magic/yugioh, it was about choosing the game more played at your school.
For me, I collect the card's, but I do on occasion play the pokemon tcg in the unlimited format, with my nephews, where I'll loan them one of my pre-made decks, as we play pretty casually, even though I have some of the more powerful battle decks for my nephews to use against my homebrew unlimited format decks.
No way, you guys are two of my favorite content creators, just so full of life, personality, and care for the community. Its like the meeting of two icons for me :)
As someone who plays both the pokemon and magic tcg daily, it is wonderful to have amazing people like you in the community to help us both be more thoughtful about the cards we care about and how we care for the cards!
When I was a kid pretty much everyone in school had a bunch of random pokemon cards, but no one actually knew how to play the game, this was before we could just look it up online. So it was definitely more of a collectable for us back then. We did still play with them, but because we didn't know the rules we just made them up on the spot. Which of course led to horribly unbalanced games, but no one could call you out on your bs rules cause no one knew what the actual rules were. No joke, we didn't even know what energy was for, we just attacked for free. So energy cards were strictly collectables.
Honestly being a fan of both Pokemon TCG and MTG having more of these cross over style podcasts would be amazing. Getting perspectives of the industry as a whole is always good insight.
I used to play the pokemon TCG when I was in middle school, and I have a lot of good memories of my friends getting me into it, and me teaching my friends and cousins how to play. My favorite parts of the game were just getting some oddball packs, which in my time of playing were mid to late Black and White stuff, and just having battles with our best cards, no energy required, to see who had the strongest pokemon. It was a good time
Ever since discovering him about a year and a half ago, Leonhart's been regular viewing for me. I don't even really play the game all that much anymore, but his energy makes it so much fun to watch and get a little bit of nostalgia along the way. Really enjoyed this discussion and glad to see you two come together for a video!
I really appreciate seeing the different TCG communities coming together to discuss various things. I love TCGs and tabletop gaming, I've played many TCGs and each has it's pros and cons. Despite some obvious flaws, I love the Pokemon TCG the most (I'm a control player). I'm actually taking my daughter to her first tournament in the Spring.
This was a great talk. As someone who plays magic now but grew up with Pokemon, I liked seeing the perspective of a current Pokemon TCG fan. And I loved watching the pack opening! I had a ton of Pokemon cards from those original wotc sets growing up that sadly all burned up in the fires in California last year, and it was very nostalgic for me to see some of those base set cards opened up again.
Loved this whole chat! Wasn't familiar with Leonhart but will definitely check his stuff out. Y'all didn't talk about the competitive side of the game so much in this podcast, but I'd like to remind everyone that the game itself is surprisingly deep and strategic and worth checking out for those fellow competitively-minded players out there. Plus the online client is super accessible and quite fairly monetized, for any would-be MTGA ship jumpers.
Thank you to you both! I used to be a Pokemon TCG collector as a kid up to Gen 4, and while I'm still a fan of the franchise I lost interest in collecting the cards. Though the #1 thing I love about the TCG for Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and MTG is the incredible card artwork! I'm a casual MTG player from teenager to adulthood, and used to be a casual Yu-Gi-Oh player and Pokemon collector of the TCGs when I was a kid from up to 5ds and Diamond and Pearl respectively.
Geez, seeing that card art brings back some memories. I had a holo-poliwrath when I was little, and got water on it when I was 5 years old, and then the layers of the card all peeled apart. Strange how just an image can bring back "lost memories" like that
I’ve been collecting Pokémon cards since the day it came out, I still have the first card I ever got, a grass energy, the first Pokémon I ever got, a bulbasaur, and even have my base set Charizard! With that being said, I’ve never played the game and have no idea how to play
As one who has gotten back into Pokémon collecting this past year and has played magic for many years, it is so nice to see two of my favorite creators collaborating! Thank you both for what you do for the communities!! It is very interesting to see the differences in what makes cards have value. I do appreciate Pokémon for having basic versions of cards at reasonable prices (V, VMax, etc..) then having the “fancy” versions that can be more for the collectors. I think magic has gone a bit too far with things like the collector’s boosters leading to a dilution of the “fancy” versions of cards, in some cases making them cost less than the standard variant.
It is pretty cool to see that you are the biggest MTG channel, but not that just that, more of a TCG channel in general, making videos about different games and products. Keep it up :D
This brings back the feels. I was a Master Professor during the WotC era of Pokemon and helped staff the 2002 World Tournament in Seattle. What a blast to get my base set Charizard signed by Arita, and help over a thousand kids enjoy a great weekend. After the license went back to Nintendo, I decided to get out of the game to focus on Magic. I had a local judge that wanted to continue in my stead, so I gave him my whole collection of Pokemon (including judge promos, tournament kits, and everything you can imagine a top-end collector would have - All Neo4 Shiny pokemon, promos of all manner, and nearly complete sets from Base through Legendary). All except my Gengars. I had to keep my Gengars. For the love of the game, I let a small fortune in cards go to a good home where it would support a thriving community for years to come. Please do the same with your resources if you are able. Charity donations for facilities like NAMI go a long way to supporting those we love and help to create a better world for gaming.
Two of the most wholesome trading card influencers in one video talking about Pokémon and magic. Thanks for the insightful interview/podcast. Also magnemite=best Pokémon
I have played both games extensively for many many years and I have realized the game of MTG is much deeper in my opinion. That alone keeps me coming back to it more often than PKM
I think the professor doesn't quite understand that the difference in Charizard's is like Liliana of the Veil vs. Lilliana Dreadhorde General, and not like Jace, The Mind Sculptor (WWK) vs Jace, The Mind Sculptor (A25) . "Reprinting" cards doesn't usually happen in Pokémon, there's just new cards with the same Pokémon or creature if you will
Reprints in Pokémon usually only happens with Pokémon when a very popular competitive card gets too expensive. The most recent one to come to mind for me is Zacian V from Sword and Shield which was like $30 card before reprints.
I exist comfortably in the middle of the four-way venn diagram of MTG players, PTCG players, Leonhart fans, and Prof fans. 10/10 video, loved the discussion.
Pokemon has been in my life for as long as I can remember and even now it remains a staple between me and my girlfriend and I am recently getting into Magic because of all the vampire goodness in Crimson Vow (along with the many TCC videos that basically acted as my crash course for Vow pre-release) and have quickly jumped into the rabbit hole of it all and so it was such a treat to watch this and make it such a good feeling, happy part of the end of the year.
I loved the conversation about playing TCGs in Schools. As a teacher I love when I have something incommon with a student like playing Magic or Pokemon. And I find it is great for Math. The only thing you need to make sure as a teacher is Kids don't always know the value of cards so supervise the trades to make sure the students are trading same value cards and not ripping someone off.
But does a teacher have the right to stop trades and tell a kid what they want? My school had a teacher supervising the room at lunch and he was only allowed to look up prices when someone wanted to trade. Trades in the class had to be done that way, but once looked up, it was up to the kids. I knew my Foil magic cards to be worth more, but HATE foils. I made trades for cards I wanted and knew I was getting less value, so the kid didn't trade them to someone else while I was waiting to have something they wanted.
I love when you talk to people into other games. I got the Pokemon starter pack and played with my brother when the game first came out. It was a little too simplistic to really hook me, but I still have cards and play every once in a while.
Great video! I started playing MTG recently and have a friend super into Pokemon. He's now playing MTG and I'm playing Pokemon which has brought joy to both of us.
My favorite Pokémon is Skarmory. When I began playing Pokémon again, I never realized how cool it looked. Also its just a complete tank. Love Skarmory. It's kind of cool to hear about the Pokémon tcg and how it got really big again and just hearing about the community. It sounds cool.
Being an MTG player and Pokemon player this video was awesome to watch especially considering both you Prof and Leonhart are both huge influences in your respective TCGs.
Honestly I'm glad that I see these videos in my subscriptions, they always enlighten me into the world outside of just MTG and make me remember playing pokemon, yugioh and other tcgs.
I absolutely resonate with the idea that every Pokemon is someone's favorite. I really attribute a lot of the game's longevity to this very concept. I will always have a stronger fondness for the original Kanto sets because I came into the game in its inception, but I have loved every iteration since and have passed that love on to my own children. I still have my collection from the 90's and I look forward to passing them on to my kids when they are old enough.
And they said Spiderman was the craziest crossover this year. Ha! But in all honesty, seeing two of my favorite content creators coming together to talk about their respective card games they're passionate about, was amazing. Need more videos with you two in the future!
Prof I really appreciate you making these kind of videos. I got started playing trading cards with Pokémon and that led me to magic, where I have met some of the greatest people in mylife. Thanks again for what you do for our game and the community.
This is some amazing content. Not sure why, but I've been looking into TCG. I am currently playing Runeterra and I am looking into Magic, PKMN and Yu Gi Oh. But I found myself listening / watching videos covering the business and meta history. TCG is a crazy and interesting world to learn about.
This video was delightful, and as others have said, I love the way you highlighted that every Pokemon is somebody's favorite. I remember picking up a few random singles for a friend's little one, while he didn't play he collected some of the ones he liked. The best was finding a single of a Japanese promo, which blew his mind.
I’m mainly a magic player now however I grew up jamming Pokémon when I was younger, I have no idea where all my old cards went but I swear I had a hollo pollywrath that looked just like that one ! Loved the vid prof! Keep up the good work!
Every pokemon is someone's favourite is definitely true. Mine is Mimikyu, fell in love with the little guy hearing the reasoning of why they dress up like pikachu. Sylveon and primarina definitely up there too. Poliwrath was definitely one I loved back in the day. As someone who was a gen 1 kid and barely touched pokemon for a long time I'm surprised my favourites are all so recent
It was a cool conversation. It'd be nice to see one with a competitive player as well, since the divide between collectors and competitive players is usually quite big. I'd love to see a conversation about the differences in the competitive circuit and all those kinds of stuff. Also nice Poliwrath!
Interesting conversation. Pokemon TCG, as a game, does have the stigma of collectors, being a huge chunk of the fanbase, that only want to open the cards and sell them later for profit, rather than play the cards and just "own" them. To be fair, Pokemon was so influential to millennials and the cash grab aspect or the simple "Have your cake" take on the collector's end has a huge thorn in the actual game's influence, especially when seen by other TCG audiences.
Prof youre totally right about people who hate when you mention underrated cards, its the kind of thing someone will say in an internet comment but if they really meant it they would've bought a playset already!
I’m not one to watch podcasts very often if at all but seeing the thumbnail for Prof and Leonhart I had to watch, huge fan of both Magic and Pokémon and play both when I can, please make more videos maybe have a pack battle with both opening a pack of each for NAMI
GREAT COLLABORATION!!! I just want to say you lead me towards Dragon Shield Products such as the Card Codex's and Perfect Fit Sleeves. I am not a Magic player but I still find your videos entertaining and informational. Especial about products for all TCG players can use alike. Keep up the great work.
I have recently started playing magic during the pandemic and have really enjoyed it so far. I haven't got a chance to go play in person yet but I can't wait and I'm super excited for my first 4 person commander pod. Pokemon and Yugioh got me into the TCG world and they both will always have a special place in my heart! Thanks Prof
One thing I really love about the pokemon TCG is how much draw power is available in the game. Playing expanded with insane draw engines that let you cycle through 20 cards in a turn is so fun. It gets a bit boring after a while, but its a super fun part of the game.
My sister has paranoid schizophrenia so NAMI is close to my heart!! I was a heroin addict for almost 9 yrs..because of the nostalgic tcgs Pokemon, Yugioh and MTG, I started watching opening videos of those games and it changed my way of thinking! I began spending monies i had on booster packs instead of on the street..got an awesome job, continued to firmly stay sober, started my own YT channel and have had some AMAZING happenings in videos on it! I now have 5 1/2 years clean and a Very cool and extravagant collection!!💚
Loved seeing this collaboration! As a lifelong Pokémon fan and recent MTG player, it feels like worlds colliding. Great video, hope to see more podcasts like this!
Yeah availability has been so much better lately, seeing all the products in stock at my local stores and children picking them up makes me so happy! Our stores also limit purchases to two items so no one person can just buy it all out to resell
I love how you've been branching out to other games like pokemon and flesh and blood. It brings more people into all the fandoms and helps combat the sunk cost idea people get from playing a game for many years. Keep it up and keep making great stuff.
my favorite pokemon is dunspace. it was so hard to find in gold and silver but running into one and seeing just how good it fared in-game was such a treat. i am a sucker for all "big things come in small packages" types of pokemon.
Great episode, only thing that I think was missing was a discussion about the formats in Pokemon TCG, because it is shockingly small on formats compared to Magic. Loved the discussions.
Poliwrath is such an underrated pokemon... Fun fact in the Pokemon Special/Adventures manga, the protagonist, Red's first pokemon is NOT the Pikachu or even Bulbasaur/Venusaur on his team, but Poliwhirl, who would evolve into Poliwrath and become one of his most trusted partners.
Like the conversation diversity on the channel. My kid plays a little pokemon , I was/am an old magic player. Sparked my interest in Pokémon. I definitely considered it a kids game when it first came out. Cool to learn a little about the evolution
My favourite pokemon of all time is Umbreon. I'm pretty sure the reason is because when I was a kid and dark types were first introduced Umbreon was the first dark type card I got and I LOVED the artwork on it, so it always had a special place in my heart.
The mechanics and flavor of magic captured my heart, but boy do I wish they would learn something from the competition. Pokemon TCG has fewer releases but higher quality products, a healthy reprint policy to promote paper play, and a functioning digital client that respects its community. Please, Wizards...
...Pokemon cards are almost never reprinted, save for a few Trainers? And the new TCG client is quite fugly, even though I'll take it over Arena, because it's actually integrated. Pokemon does a lot of things right, but it's also completely backwards in terms of organization, with the Japanese side being the "primary" consideration and the worldwide releases trying to somehow fit in.
This is the most subued and least neon I've ever seen Leon, it's nice. XD And the nostalgia on that pack, omg, I had every single one of those cards back in the day! Such a good feeling to see.

That is so true.
I've always really liked Sentret and Furret and use them in my team in any game that has them.
Never played the card game but favorites (in no particular order) are Snorlax, the Porygon line, and all the Evees (though I’m not too big on Sylveon)
My favorite Pokémon is cramorant 😂
Arcanine and Houndoom are always my lads.
This is the comment I was looking for.
@@derphousewhat is the gym leader challenge?
I've always liked these peeks across the fence. So, how are our brothers, sisters and siblings in the world of fancy cardstock doing?
@Ramon Lopez glad to hear we’re so similar in the ways that matter most ♥️
I work at a card shop and I will say there’s no game even close to pulling money better then Pokémon if you can get your hands on bulk of Pokémon cards Even cards that are just pennies you can make thousands easily , this is because Pokémon cards are trending hard right now and it’s only because of this reason Pokémon is in the lead for making money at this present time .
@@grumpyinbrooklyn6347 Ouch. Glad to hear to hear she found a new TCG to love though, it's very sweet. Thank you for sharing!
@@BloodiedShingle Pokemon is a nice game, but at least she found a new TCG that has become a share interest.
@@funnymcfunfuns1455 Power nine cards are already banned in most formats. Reprinting wouldn’t change this.
@@funnymcfunfuns1455 wow man you called it magic 30th for $1000, this aged like wine
As a casual player of both, Magic is a mechanically superior game. But the Pokemon TCG Online game is MILES better than Magic Arena, in almost every way
Its not miles better than mtgo though. Maybe a few meters better
Super interesting, love hearing discussions across the TCGs
Glad you enjoyed it!
Best Pokémon card all time is the "Egyptian" Mew Promo that you got when you went to the Cinema for the first Pokémon Movie.
We still have a copy or two in our old collection binder!
Ancient Mew it's named
Fuck yeah, those things are cool. I inherited my older cousins' pokemon cards from way back, ended up with 4 of those. I have 3 now, cause I gave one to a friend, but they're probably the coolest looking individual cards in my collection.
That thing was so cool. Me and my sister both had one, but we lost it in a house fire. I remember being shocked that Ash **died**. I don't even know how old I must have been.
@@necrocorey6408 Mine got lost to my little brother... but my wife still has hers : ) luckily they are not that rare
Pokemon, MTG, Yugi, FnB, digimon etc... I'm just grateful that there are many choices and communities for people to get into.
FnB?

When discussing vintage Pokemon cards it's important to understand that they are nonviable as gamepieces being completely outclassed by modern cards. This is unlike MtG where we want reprints of classic cards because they are often still VERY GOOD which is not the case in Pokemon (or Yugioh outside of outliers like Pot of Greed).
$8,000 Shivan Dragon says hi. Nostalgia value for now unplayable cards exists in any 20+ year old ccg that was successful enough to still be around.
I like how fast and combo-y you can get with decks in that format, and there's viable decks for other play styles as well.
doesnt help that most of the playerbase play standard instead of the expanded format which wouldve made the old cards very relevant
I love these crossover episodes. It is always cool getting to hear about how the other TCG's work and treat their content creators
Wizard knows exactly what they are doing when shortprinting stuff.
I feel like a good counterpoint to this episode's guest would be an actual competitive player, like TrickyGym or AzulGG as a guest.
Exactly I was wondering why he invited a collector instead of an actual player
Seriously. This is not exactly a fair comparison.
But I've been collecting pokemon longer than I have been collecting mtg.
I love that you do videos like these. It's so important to be represent your game in the larger community and reach out to the players of other games.
Many times we see other TCGs as rivals and compete to see which is the best TCG so, to see content like this is really great. Very insightful
Daaaaamn finally... i dont play pokemon anymore but i love this guy's energy
Man, it's been so long since I've seen Leonhart, but I can remember him giving away a ton to charity and I'm glad he's still doing it.
>Magnemite=best

Ever since I saw Sableye's malicious grin in Pokemon Coliseum I can't stay away.
Two of the best voices in cards together at last! And they both happen to be incredibly chill, warm, and friendly people. Can't beat this duo.
Magikarp is, and has always been, my favorite Pokemon. As for starters, Bulbasaur is always my go-to. What a fun guest Leonhart was for this episode.
Was that spaceballs reference at 9:28 ? Didnt expect that in this video lol
Being an MTG player and Pokemon player this video was awesome to watch especially considering both you Prof and Leonhart are both huge influences in your respective TCGs.
I used to collect Pokemon TCG when i was younger. Leonhart is my favorite pokemon content creator to watch to feel the nostalgia.
Most wholesome crossover. I love both of your channels and what both of you stand for in their respective tcg.
Honestly I'm glad that I see these videos in my subscriptions, they always enlighten me into the world outside of just MTG and make me remember playing pokemon, yugioh and other tcgs.
Absolutely legends talking it out? Had me listening the whole time!
This interview is so good! Two of the best content masters mashed up!
The problem I have with this video is that he invited a collector instead of a competitive player like azulgg
The best was finding a single of a Japanese promo, which blew his mind.
tcg is a nostalgia thing. and there are studies which found that a majority feel attracted to nostalgic things during covid.
Rad pull, I loved Poliwrath back in the day!
I still keep my old Pokémon binder around, and I always get a big hit of nostalgia when I go though it.
Leonhart is definitely one of the best Pokemon TCG TH-camrs out there so I'm really excited about this episode
Great episode, only thing that I think was missing was a discussion about the formats in Pokemon TCG, because it is shockingly small on formats compared to Magic.
Loved the discussions.
My grandchildren are why I am learning about Pokemon.
The collab we've all been waiting for! Super nice seeing Leon and the Professor chatting it out.
Like the conversation diversity on the channel. My kid plays a little pokemon , I was/am an old magic player. Sparked my interest in Pokémon. I definitely considered it a kids game when it first came out. Cool to learn a little about the evolution
Really nice to see perspectives from different games!
I agree with the reprints part everything else they’re about the same too me
...Pokemon cards are almost never reprinted, save for a few Trainers? And the new TCG client is quite fugly, even though I'll take it over Arena, because it's actually integrated.
Pokemon does a lot of things right, but it's also completely backwards in terms of organization, with the Japanese side being the "primary" consideration and the worldwide releases trying to somehow fit in.
HOLY CRAP!!!! NEVER SAW THIS COMING!!! Leonhart and The Prof!!! Two of my favorite Card Game channels collab together.. Saving this video!!!
This is the most subued and least neon I've ever seen Leon, it's nice. XD
And the nostalgia on that pack, omg, I had every single one of those cards back in the day!
Such a good feeling to see.
Two wonderful creators supporting a wonderful cause. What could be better? Really enjoyed this discussion. Best of luck to both of you in the new year!
Amazing vid , I love these type of vids where you bring content creators from other TCG , specially Leonhart . I’m big on mtg of course but my kids both collect and play Pokémon and he’s the to go guy when it comes to Pokémon . Enjoyed this vid very much , thank you .
My favourite pokemon is Torchic and Kyogre. And I'm extremely happy to hear about the mental health charity as that has affected me in the past as well! Good luck to everyone on the contest and Happy Holidays :D
I don't have a favorite video from Leonhardt its all of his video not only the information and the hype but the emphasis.
I havent played mtg since 4th edition but I recently subscribed because I like your content. Real people, real information.
My favorite pokemon is charmander but im trying currently to collect the Base set and base set 2 sets
How fantastic of you and the line about each pokemon is someones favorite is something I've never thought about. My kids and I have gotten back into collecting and it's fun to see how we all have favorites I got them some PSA cards for christmas to "legitimize" their collects and had some difficulty finding psa grades for my oldest kid's favorite Boltund. My smallest kids though fell for the hype and there favorites are Mew and Mew Two. I myself am a close tie between Blasty and Digglet however I must admit Hansen Digglet is the best pokemon around.
