      I didn't find her pseudo, she seemed to be the real deal who understood a lot of this on a very deep level, with a lot of integrity. Maybe she was a bit arrogant, but I found her POV way above entry level. Like... she has lived the reality of therapy and counselling others for a long time. As a therapist myself, it's very obvious.
      No, I didn't agree with everything she said, but I didn't find her to be a pseuointellectual.

      @@Orius25 That's how I felt too. Visceral emotions are a big part of how most people react, and it takes intent and work to get beyond that, and she had some important things to say because she looks beyond that. Yes, being honest to partners is important, but telling your partner you cheated *can* also be selfish and cruel. Yes, catching feelings or feeling a spark happens without our choice, but it's a choice whether you cut it short there or you foster it in ways that grow into love.

      @@AnimatorBlake I have no problem if people disagree with her take or think she's wrong/arrogant or whatever... but nothing you've described necessarily makes her a narcissist.
      People should not be pathologizing others they disagree with or simply don't like. If you don't have clinical training then you have no business saying such things. Just because you think she's wrong, arrogant, or pushy, doesn't mean she has a mental disorder.
      The current social media generation uses pop psychology to criticize people and it's wrong. It was a huge mistake to teach your generation psychology terms.

      @@sophiemilkes I also really appreciated that you talked about how learning you didn't have to forgive was a way of healing and that it eventually becomes indifference. My recovery from things in life has generally been atypical, and it took me a long time to find because I didn't know there were ways. I couldn't forgive my mom, so I felt like I could never get better because the narrative is you have to forgive for yourself. When I learned it doesn't have to be that way, I was free. I don't forgive my mom, but I also don't have any pent up negative energy towards her either. Sometimes when I talk about this, people who did do the "typical" route for recovery get defensive and push back that I must be holding onto anger and things. I don't know, it's just frustrating when I just want to share with people that recovery isn't one specific path, so thanks for vocalizing it too.

Continuing to work on your love is an action, yes, but that action requires you to consider your partner and your self… if you cheat, once you cheat you are only considering yourself. You are ruining the opportunity to continue to cultivate love and maintain being in love. If you cheat, you are not in love with them… it really is that simple. Stand on it, like you stood on the act of cheating. That’s accountability too.

      A flawless relationship can be shattered by a fleeting moment-a kiss, a fling-that may have occurred many years prior. You might not even recall the face of the person involved in that momentary lapse. Yet, for your partner, it can spell the definitive end.
      In numerous instances, one partner discovers betrayal, a grave error committed in a moment of recklessness. By the time the truth surfaces, the partner once cherished has moved on, leaving the betrayed to embark on the arduous journey of healing anew.
      This scenario isn't confined to the past. A couple in their 70s found that other cheated them in their 30s
      they divorced
      Therefore, after solemnly vowing to stand by your partner in sickness and in health, to then betray that trust out of sheer selfishness is utterly incomprehensible to me.
      Simply because you possess the capability to do something doesn't mean you should. Theology should remain a thousand feet away from practical, real-world decision-making.

    hot take: if your partner is abusive and you are unsafe to leave the relationship, it is no longer a relationship it's a hostage situation. your partner broke the relationship contract when they became violent and there is no such thing as "cheating" when you're being held against your will.

      my hot take is that you shouldnt be worried about being in love with other people while youre in a relationship with someone abusive.that must feel so shitty to fall in love with someone just to find out they were using you to get out of their own relationship. put your focus and efforts into getting out of your relationship... if you need support, it doesnt have to be romantic. how about leaning on family or friends, not creating a romantic relationship?

    • @wtzara
      @wtzara 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@SpijenYou’re assuming that someone who’s ended up in such a relationship even has friends or family. They’re most likely isolated from everyone other than their partner, and if they’re lucky enough to have the opportunity to meet another person, it’d be very likely that they have a strong desire for a caring romantic partner. Therefore almost anyone who’s willing to help them will be considered a love interest.

      People like Chelsea didn't say you shouldn't tell your partner. They said that telling your partner, in of itself, is not accountability. Accountability is when you take self-inventory and understand your own motivations, feelings, needs, and desires. That's why Chelsea recommended maybe telling a therapist first. Keep in mind that she is coming from the perspective of counselling women in domestic violence situations. In that case, telling your partner could be dangerous, so maybe telling another third party is better.
      People in this thread are vilifying Chelsea like crazy but I think it's because she talks about a truthful reality that people don't want to hear.

    • @isaiahpinkerton3445
      @isaiahpinkerton3445 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Being in a domestic violence relationship, that's a very different dynamic and really isn't a "romantic relationship", anymore. The circumstances change and it can absolutely be dangerous disclosing that you cheated to a partner. However, for most other relationships accountability is a basis for what's the relationship needs to thrive. If you have a healthy relationship that's not abusive, then you do owe it to your partner and yourself to be accountable for each other because that's how you grow. You can grow individually and within a relationship, but just accounting individual needs over the relationship is not healthy.

What’s the alternative, people should stay in abusive relationships because it’s hard to leave? No. People should leave. They should get help or at least try. So that they can live a happy life. And I’ll add that if others see someone in what seems like an abusive relationship they NEED to tell someone. Also if someone is in an abusive relationship and they’re close enough to a person to cheat on their partner with, that person is close enough to help them escape the abusive relationship.

    It’s so ironic that in the era of acknowledging as a society the importance of consent and transparency, that someone could feel like it’s okay to be dishonest and disrespectful to their partner and keep it to themselves.
    Regardless of how someone will take it, if you wronged someone, you have a responsibility to be honest, especially if they’re your partner. Cheating and not disclosing doing so is incredibly disrespectful. Especially if the cheating was physical because (assuming you are still in the relationship) you continue to be physical with your partner.
    That is violating consent in the sense that you’ve now exposed your partner to potential STDs/STIs without them being aware. That is not okay.

    Oh the topic of "I would rather not know I was cheated on" and suicidal ideation. I was far more emotionally devestated and had more feelings of being suicidal by discovering that my partner was cheating on my own and from them hiding it from me. If they came to me and had been honest from the beginning, I'd atleast know that they were thinking of me and my feelings for them. Not confessing is selfish and avoiding not only your own feelings of shame, but your partner's feelings for you and the relationship they feel that they have with you. You are denying that they matter. To convince yourself that it's okay to lie and hide things from your partner just because they may not take it well is disgusting and appalling behavior. If another person's feelings matter so little to you, don't be in a relationship. A loving relationship needs both partners to care about eachother's feelings and to be able to comfort eachother.

    I truly think you cannot love someone and cheat on them. But I think in the same way, you can’t intentionally cause harm to your partner and claim you love them, at least in that moment. When you love someone, you want to do you best by them. Consciously choosing to do something you KNOW will destroy them is not love. It’s selfishness and self-serving, which you should not be in a relationship with someone. Especially if you are claiming to love them. I’m surprised no one talked about this.

There's no need to cheat, if you want to search what your missing with another person then don't be in a relationship. I know some will say "it's not that simple" and everything else, but at the end of the day cheating is a choice because if you truly want to be with someone else you can end your relationship way before you do anything physical with another person.
