@@martinmeza9714 I always found that an odd detail in the games. Like, in real life, the tsar loyalists lost because they were outnumbered by a wide margin. Victory was just not feasibly attainable for them. Here, they won, and it was never really brought up again, as far as I remember.
Resistance had so much potential and it deserves a spotlight! Honestly, if they made a prequel set in Russia, I think it could be successful. Imagine that: A survival horror game that puts the player into a scenario in which the armies of the largest country on Earth are starting to be overrun. Malikov creates the Cloven. The Cloven go crazy and sack Moscow. You could be put up against early Chimeran warriors, the Cloven, and even hostile humans desperate to survive. You could even encounter the series' "mythical" creatures, like the Leben Geist. If they wanted to stick with the military theme of the previous games, then they could make the protagonist a soldier and maybe have him be part of an effort to stop the Chimera from breaching the border wall. It would really stand out among other games of the genre, as it's a unique mix between an alien invasion scenario and a sort of zombie apocalypse.
You read my mind. It could take place during their alternate version of the russian revolution, so you start as a soldier that fights other humans and then you are sent on a mission to siberia and stumbles into the chimera there. Seriously: this franchise was to me what the Lost tv series was for most people
I always found the Chimera as the most terrifying alien species ever. Not as much because they transformed humanity into an endangered species (but also every encounter with them was terrifying in the games, making you clear that there was no way to winning a war against them), as because they are a virus hive mind. You might think "there are plenty of those in fiction". Yeah, but normally they are animalistic. Unlike the Chimera, who have technology thousands of years more advanced than humankind.
Look at them... they already look scarry with their sharp teeth, their dead skin and their (commonly) 3 pair of eyesthat shine a golden like colour... not even considering the mashinery they have attached in their body, giving them a cyborg like feeling too.
there is still a mystery id like to know more about how in the fucking world did they breed a 600 ft leviathan i mean did they have even bigger ships to breed that thing or did he just fell out of the sky
how tf did they form human bodies into a giant creepy ass chimera i mean did they melt em or smthing i mean its a cruel and horrible idea but considering its the chimera i wouldnt be surprised
Because they were freaking TERRIFYING. This was not a war fighting as the underdog. I think that from the beggining of the first game, the franchise always wanted to make the player clear that this was a war humanity could not win.
sometimes when i saw a dead soldier i started a conversation with them to feel me less lonely against the creatures waiting for me also when i was younger lol
The chimera reminds me about the tyranids from 40k universe but with high levels of technology + cyborgs and not just eating all the life of a world but making all the life of world one of them, in 40k standarts with some rebalancing in combat they would become a very powerful race.
And it was the best ive ever played on playstation since. Including ps4. I hope so much truely that they make a resistance RISE of man. On the ps5 Please
Great video, the lore around the Chimera was nicely balanced between explained and mystery to keep you interested. Also, I'm now remembering the days of playing Resistance 2 online co-op. No matter how much intel I collected I coukd never understand their race and I loved it. The story was on point and was one of the most well thought out and interesting stories I've seen. If they were EVER remastered, I'd buy them up in a heart beat.
I remembered playing this game back in 2008, it gave me nightmares because of the cutscene where the protagonist (Nathan Hale) we're swarmed by the Crawlers(creepy, crawlies, cockroach type of enemies) and went inside his mouth.

It really makes you wonder... In the ancient past, the Chimera clearly had dominated the planet; they'd not only had the time to build all their towers and nexus points and all that, and all the underground infrastructure connecting them, but then something happened, and they all just packed up, put everything away underground and 'left', or went into dormancy. Imagine building a house for yourself with all the trimmings and shiny bits...only to turn the power off, drain the pipes, lock and board the doors up, and then erase the road leading to while you went and took a nap outside in the firepit. Checking the Wiki, it mentions that they ran afoul of another race, which might be why they packed up and left. Which begs the question... who was so powerful that, even if they didn't attack the Chimera-infested Earth of the past, it made them pull ALL their resources and creations away, and had them HIDE their stuff so it wouldn't be found easily? Bury it so deep that humanity never even knew it was there, no matter where we dug or how we dug, until that day in Russia....

Yes! I personally love the 2005 Aliens and I think they were so much better than the originals, especially since there's so much mystery behind the 2005 ones. If you pay close attention to the details, you can see that there are 5 different Fighting Machines and A lot more weapons. We also know that these Aliens were curious enough the explore Human environments and we still don't know what kind of ship we saw in the sky. I think the reason I love these ones so much is they are so much cooler and scarier than the older ones, I still have nightmares about them to this day. The older ones were a bit underwhelming and I thought the Goliath ones were too funny in design.
One of my favorite series. I think the RE3 storyline was meant to be different. In RE2 Daedulus mentioned that "your stars will be replaced by ours" and "we will all be going home. In the end of RE2 you are at the Gulf of Mexico and after exploding the fleet you see a hulking mass of messed up planet. I believe Earth was transported to their home system but in RE3 they changed that and made it a wormhole in NYC. I believe RE3 was supposed to be you finding pieces of grey tech to build the "Prometheus weapon" after which it will be used on the chimera and earth would remained trapped in the chimera system. Humanity would then have to adapt to life in the new system.
I'd like to see Dark Eldar as well. Maybe they should cover the Fall and its aftermath as a whole, this would explain Dark Eldar much better to those who don't know 40k.
Slaanesh the Prince of Pleasure do you want to see them because they created you or just because you like to see their sadistic and hedonistic behavior on display
Beautiful as always guys, you always make these factions more dramatic and intense with the music and everything and I love it it actually makes me want to play the resistance games again. It gets me so pumped up now too, plus I always did want too know about the chimera too. Love you guys at the Templin Institute and I love your work as always please keep going. You guys are changing lives and people's perception on these factions. :D
I thought this was related to the Chimera update to Rainbow Six Siege. I was not disappointed. Great video, another reason for staying up late at night.
"From the book" You mean there's another medium? I sure hope it does the source material justice and isn't just a mockery of military culture alongside fascist daydreams.
They'll probably still use some scenes from film/animations since not much imagery is provided by books. But yeah, book Federation is a better subject for analysis than film Federation.
Not bait...The book was atrocious. Theres a reason why paul verhosen had to skip out the majority of the book so that the movie would get backed by the distributors.
In Resistance 4, the United States can finish the reconstruction and rebuilding of Earth, then build space ships, and use a wormhole to deliver some freedom to the Chimera homeworld.
If I recall Resistance lore properly, Brits would be a better candidate to lead the charge. Brits were liberating Europe while America was besieged in Resistance 2. Not to mention that America became the center of the chimeran occupation following the portal opening, so America probably got rekt harder than other countries.
Man, the first Resistance is still my favorite. Your starting rifle was a slow moving love story for me but in the end, it became one of my favorite rifles in all of gaming. As for my suggestions, one hasn't changed, but I'll add others. The LDO from Dies Irae. The NOL and Sector 7 from Blazblue. Armacham from F.E.A.R.
Good video but one thing, the angry night was in reference to Russia being overrun by the "Cloven" not the Chimera. A video on the Cloven would be interesting though not much information is known about them except for some documents and few sightings in one game.
Artabryski Baiekvytoi Isn’t Cloven mutated Russian soldiers who accepted Chimera virus vaccines that show aggressive behavior and decided to dessert the battlefield.
Jerry Xiao Yes basically, it was an early attempt at a vaccine and Doctor Malikov used pure chimera DNA to create it. Injecting people with this DNA subjected them to a slight mutation and induced madness. Due to them being half chimera half human and completely mad they are friends to no one, although they somehow coexist with the Chimera they are not allied at all.
Artabryski Baiekvytoi There is the theory that Cloven is actually inducing conflicts between humans and Chimeras (such as the York incident) to gather both human and Chimera technology in order boost their own technological level and put them into their use. And there is also sightings of Cloven practicing religious rituals in a form of congregation.
The question is how did Malikov get the Pure Chimera DNA from anyway? Did he just travel all the way to Siberia(Tunguska Site) to get it? And how do Pure Chimera exactly looks like? (I still cannot imagine how's that worm armor looking creature that were kept in SPRA tube class storage in Resistance 2/Concept Art and fossil found in Resistance 3 is Pure Chimera) Did Malikov ever found any Grey Tech artifact in Russia? Why didn't Tsar asking help from the West in first place? Did he became paranoid of US betrayal? (SPRA already knew it's too late to save Russia so that's why they only pick up a few important survivors like Malikov) How was the living condition looks like in Russia(even Communist was defeated. Lenin and his party fail to overthrow Tsar)? Are they the same like USSR or worse? What kind of person Tsar really is? Ruthless? Tyranny? Too paranoid? Or he's no different from Joseph Stalin? "Purge" And most importantly, I wish they make another Resistance that take place in Russia during 1930-1940 until the Fall of Motherland in the late 1950. The opening game should be like Joseph Capelli(now's 60 years old) or Capelli son found a secret diary of Malikov in SPRA office in 1980. Each page that he read is another chapter to play and reveal a secret of what's happening in Russia.
I miss this series. Resistance 2 wasn't the best mechanically, but I loved its co-op multiplayer to bits (and it's pvp multiplayer for that matter). Combined, Resistance 1, 2 and 3 have a god-like story that I still think of fondly. Just watching this makes me want to play the whole trilogy again...
Would love to see a new Resistance game, Killzone too. But I think they both are gonna need reboots to go back to what made each great. Resistance, return to its crazy alternate history WW2 with human military FPS vs the monstrous but mysterious Chimera. Killzone, back to the over the top Science fiction version of WW2. Maybe actually make the game from the helghast point of view. Great vid.
I played this game from the age of nine and I was interested in it, I’m glad you took an interest of talking about the story it’s just good to know it hasn’t been forgotten. But hell I miss the game
TheSovietComrade i don’t understand by what i meant is that in code geass the holy Britannian army was formed after a rebellion in the united kingdom and the royal family fled to the American colony’s
+TheSovietComrade The Americans lost the revolutionary war and the 13 Colonies are still under Imperial rule, likely with a substantial Army presence to protect Elizabeth III, her cabinet and family. There are not going to be any assassination attempts.
I just loved the whole design of the resistance games. The whole combination of the 1950’s military look with some more modern technology was brilliant. Wish they continued this series, bet it would look great on a ps4
I'm so glad that you guys made a video this is like the first resistance related video in a few years I honestly love this franchise and I know a lot about the franchise I played all the games and beaten them I really really want a sequel or a remaster for the ps4 Maybe being able to play has Josaphes son it would be a very interesting game story I really hope for a resistance game in the near future
CR3AT1VE SPECTRUM about gears of war, looks like a good game but, man, I really want to believe that we have a new resistance on this generation, I need this , I don't care if they just do a remaster, I really love this game.
Why don't you guys have a patreon set up yet? We all know at this point you put out well researched, well presented and very detailed "research" videos on all our favorite factions. It would not be difficult to garner financial support from us fans.
Resistance will always be a staple of the Xbox 360 slash PlayStation 3 era of gaming to me. Also the Bullseye rifle is one of the most unique small arms in sci fi gaming to me, with you being able to fire a "target dart" that your bullets would then home in on.
This game honestly had so much potential. The story was really interesting and the enemy's unknown origin just made it so much better. I feel truly sad its dead now...
Great Video! Its a shame the "Resistance" saga died. One of my favorite games of all time. The trilogy created a fascinating story but i still cannot get over Nathan Hale's death.

„They shot our first squadron to hell. Now let’s bring them hell.“ -Major Cartwright (I believe it was)
Suggestions
1: Armacham (F.E.A.R)
2:The Umbrella Corporation (Resident Evil)
3: The Dark Elder (warhammer 40k)
I'd like to see Dark Eldar as well. Maybe they should cover the Fall and its aftermath as a whole, this would explain Dark Eldar much better to those who don't know 40k.
Slaanesh the Prince of Pleasure do you want to see them because they created you or just because you like to see their sadistic and hedonistic behavior on display
This game was way before its time. Damn this was cool, I really hope it comes back.
Hope SONY make another RESISTANCE game
i really love the history and Multiplayer.
We need a Resistance Remaster now!
Chimera and locust horde need to have a grudge match
I thought this was related to the Chimera update to Rainbow Six Siege. I was not disappointed. Great video, another reason for staying up late at night.
Resistance was such a fun game. Especially as a kid it game me horror and cool action packed storyline
The Star ship troopers federation (from the book)
"From the book" You mean there's another medium? I sure hope it does the source material justice and isn't just a mockery of military culture alongside fascist daydreams.
They'll probably still use some scenes from film/animations since not much imagery is provided by books.
But yeah, book Federation is a better subject for analysis than film Federation.
The book was boring as hell.
The movie made the book look interesting when in reality, both were utter shite.
Nice bait mate ;)
Not bait...The book was atrocious.
Theres a reason why paul verhosen had to skip out the majority of the book so that the movie would get backed by the distributors.
Can you hear them? There beautiful.
Joshua Taylor they're*
Yes i can hear them
*then his head explode*
The rumours of a reboot/remake of the games have a me a littke hyped and happy to fond this vid
The Tomorrow War is proof that a Resistance movie can be made!
YES! It's amazing to still see talk about this game!
In Resistance 4, the United States can finish the reconstruction and rebuilding of Earth, then build space ships, and use a wormhole to deliver some freedom to the Chimera homeworld.
Larry-three resistance RISE of man
specially if they have oil.
Its not just the United States
If I recall Resistance lore properly, Brits would be a better candidate to lead the charge. Brits were liberating Europe while America was besieged in Resistance 2. Not to mention that America became the center of the chimeran occupation following the portal opening, so America probably got rekt harder than other countries.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have not seen anything about the tech but I have seen the rituals, it was a preservation of their human past.
The question is how did Malikov get the Pure Chimera DNA from anyway? Did he just travel all the way to Siberia(Tunguska Site) to get it? And how do Pure Chimera exactly looks like? (I still cannot imagine how's that worm armor looking creature that were kept in SPRA tube class storage in Resistance 2/Concept Art and fossil found in Resistance 3 is Pure Chimera)
Did Malikov ever found any Grey Tech artifact in Russia?
Why didn't Tsar asking help from the West in first place? Did he became paranoid of US betrayal? (SPRA already knew it's too late to save Russia so that's why they only pick up a few important survivors like Malikov)
How was the living condition looks like in Russia(even Communist was defeated. Lenin and his party fail to overthrow Tsar)? Are they the same like USSR or worse?
What kind of person Tsar really is? Ruthless? Tyranny? Too paranoid? Or he's no different from Joseph Stalin? "Purge"
And most importantly, I wish they make another Resistance that take place in Russia during 1930-1940 until the Fall of Motherland in the late 1950.
Just watching this makes me want to play the whole trilogy again...
yesss! finally the Chimera!
Resistance fom and retribution were the best in the series. The ww2 setting and the grey weather is such a beautifull thing
I wish they would expand more lore on this universe. I just bought the books. I'm such a huge fan.
The Templin institute should open an online gaming store.
For the level of quality they're after for their videos...Patreon isn't going to cut it.
I hope we see a return of Resistance one day, i think a more horror focused shooter could work very well too in its setting.
Damn these videos are good, I feel like I could go out and read all this in a history book. Excellent work.
Holy Britannian Empire from Code Geass
Darth Cindros ah yes the Holy Britannian empire aka the usa
That Evil Empire? Yeah right. Why everyone likes Holy Britannian Empire instead of United States?
TheSovietComrade i don’t understand by what i meant is that in code geass the holy Britannian army was formed after a rebellion in the united kingdom and the royal family fled to the American colony’s
fall0fdark Then let the Americans kill the British Royal Family in-exile like the Bolsheviks executed the Russian Royal Family in 1917.
+TheSovietComrade The Americans lost the revolutionary war and the 13 Colonies are still under Imperial rule, likely with a substantial Army presence to protect Elizabeth III, her cabinet and family. There are not going to be any assassination attempts.
That was freakin creepy, I LOVE IT, awesome work, hope to see more soon, especially the ones I suggested.
I’ve always wanted to have one on the COG from Gears of War.
Richard Kirstein Agreed!
I just loved the whole design of the resistance games. The whole combination of the 1950’s military look with some more modern technology was brilliant. Wish they continued this series, bet it would look great on a ps4
One of my favorite game franchises ever! What happened to all the great SciFi games?
I have never really known about these guys. Thank you!!!
Anyway you guys could do The Tau Empire from warhammer 40k or maybe the Farsight Enclaves
Sean Martin hello fellow follower of the greater good
fall0fdark. For the great good!
Your pathetic empire will be crushed under the might of the Imperium if you so much as think of expanding again xeno.
I miss you Nathan Hale
Same
Woooow thanks dude this is crazy work!!:) really nostalgic...
How horrifying would it be if the Chimera were part of the Combine Empire.
I had forgotten this game series existed. Well done.
I'd love to see a video on the Coalition of Ordered Governments, Gears Of War.
I miss resistance so much. Makes my heart kind a empty, For games like these
Daniel Ricardo They say that Gears of war 4 is the closest we will get to Resistance 4?!???😡😡😡
Daniel Ricardo Do you think Leonid Kulik is still alive in Resistance.
CR3AT1VE SPECTRUM about gears of war, looks like a good game but, man, I really want to believe that we have a new resistance on this generation, I need this , I don't care if they just do a remaster, I really love this game.
CR3AT1VE SPECTRUM about KULIK, we have some games Wich has characters like him, but, at all I think this fucking man still alive
Daniel Ricardo Seriously though it was never answered whether he was killed or converted by the Chimera.
Resistance was pretty much one of my favourite games as kid, 2 and 3 were great but 1 with its coop campaign is all me and my cousins played.
Why don't you guys have a patreon set up yet? We all know at this point you put out well researched, well presented and very detailed "research" videos on all our favorite factions. It would not be difficult to garner financial support from us fans.
Stay tuned! We hope to have a patreon in the next month or so.
Resistance will always be a staple of the Xbox 360 slash PlayStation 3 era of gaming to me. Also the Bullseye rifle is one of the most unique small arms in sci fi gaming to me, with you being able to fire a "target dart" that your bullets would then home in on.
honestly....a lot of the weapons were super creative
Resistance was a great fucken game I wish it was still around
This game honestly had so much potential. The story was really interesting and the enemy's unknown origin just made it so much better. I feel truly sad its dead now...
Παναγιώτης Κάραλης Maybe not it can possibly return.
CR3AT1VE SPECTRUM I dont think the company is interested in making a new resistance game
Wish there was a remake of the series or bought by some other company.
Loved all the games but we were left with so many unanswered questions
Can you do the Technocracy from the World of Darkness Tabletop Game?
Great Video! Its a shame the "Resistance" saga died. One of my favorite games of all time. The trilogy created a fascinating story but i still cannot get over Nathan Hale's death.
What a great trilogy
