Hey all hope you found this video helpful! There's a few other Q300 video's on my channel where I compare it to the stock OEM exhaust, and another where you can hear it wide open on the track. You'll also find them linked in the description or at the end of this video :)
I've watched MANY Q300 videos and this one is certainly one of the best out there. Good work! Videos like this and others I've seen have convinced me to go with the Q300 (purchased as of today lol) for my WRX. Very excited!
@@kanefacta meh, my neighbours being an ass again, so I ordered the r400, I'm not worried about pissing him off anymore lol. Super excited! Thanks for the info
This is my favorite and most in depth video of the Q300 yet. Are you happy with the loudness levels? This exhaust has my favorite deep tones, but the awe touring or Corsa are a little bit louder I heard. I would like it to be loud enough to be noticed but not pulled over lol
Hey Justin, overall im happy with the volume of the exhaust, sometimes I wish it was a little louder. Outside It can heard from quite a distance away and I've never had any attention from police and co over it and I'm not concerned either. Hope that helps mate
@@BenCad Hi Ben, great video thanks for sharing. How was the fit up of the exaust? I read someone saying that they had to cut the underneath of the under tray were the mufflers sit out the back. Do you know if that is correct? I want to purchase the q 300 sounds perfect imo but i don’t want to modify anything on the car. Thanks mate.
@@BenCad Thanks for your reply mate appreciate it. Thats what i thought, i didnt think they would make an exaust were you have to cut or remove anything, ive only just purchased an 2021 sti magnetite and ive been looking at purchasing the q 300.. nice car mate cheers 👍
Hey John, thanks for the comment! First thing to know is the motor in the STI is different to whats in the standard WRX (CVT) model. So the exhaust noise will sound different. That said, I think the Q300 would be a fine choice on your model too. Some people say the R400 (louder) works well on the on the your model also which is apparently has more drone on the STI motors. Regardless, I think Q300 would be a safe bet for your car too, hope that helps. Cheers!
I'm at a quandary Ben! I did a LOT of research on exhausts before getting the Q300. I have a 2021 STi and it does not sound ANYTHING like yours at all. It only has a tiny burble after 5k revs. So disappointed that it has no boxer rumble. Speaking to exhaust shop now to look at doing a muffler delete. I feel like I have just wasted 2k now :( But loved your video. Very well done, just disappointed that it doesn't sound anything like yours for some reason...
Hey, sorry to hear its not working out for you, I don't really know what to say back besides the exhaust will sound different when driving, to revving stationary etc. I have a couple of other videos on my channel which you may have seen, one is a simple driveway Rev/Idle comparison for stock vs the Q300. Does that sound different also? Sanity check - Confirming its a cat-back not an axle back or anything like that? If you didn't say you had an STI I would be asking if you had an FA motor, or equal length headers. Otherwise - will reconfirm at the time of recording these exhaust videos, I only had a the Q300 cat-back, no other engine or exhaust mods on a stock OEM tune. Hope that helps in some way! Cheers
Awesome review! I was just watching your original q300 review the other day and was wondering if you were going to post a follow up. Thanks from a fellow STI owner who is looking to upgrade from stock ;)
Excellent video! Great editing and very informative. Sounds like this is the catback for me. As my STI has less than 11k KM on it I don't want to tempt fate with a warranty-compromising mod, and I also just want it to sound great, not obnoxious - this will be perfect. I understand you don't have or need a tune for this. Maybe a dumb question, but it also doesn't create trouble codes or warning lights, right?
Curious did you modify your down pipe, with a catted down pipe? If you do, you will hear the best of your 300, although, your exhaust set up sounds good!
Hey Reese, dont think so, its been a few years since I fitted this so memory is a little flakey. Pretty sure it came with a new gasket for the install which was fitted at install.
hey John, the FA engine doesn't have unequal length headers so the exhaust sound will be quite different and won't have the 'burble' that you hear! Thanks for feedback :)
Hey Carlos, You can hear the true interior noise at 4:36 (microphone in the cabin) But the clip you mention has a microphone attached to the back of the car in case you missed where I mention that bit. Hope that helps, cheers!
Hi Ben, great video! did you end up getting a downpipe? Just wondering how much louder it would sound with one as I already have a downpipe. Is the exhaust much louder than stock while it is on warm idle? I am hoping it is not too quiet. Looking to buy one soon! I had the r400 but the drone was unbearable! Im also from Melb and also use to own a hawkeye STI.
Hey mate thanks for the message. I have a downpipe sitting in my garage along with a bunch of other parts in the to-do pile. So one day when life slows down I’ll get around to putting it on! I am expecting a volume bump. As is it’s a lot lounder the stock on idle. Like it’s not super loud but it still shakes my old house windows haha. If you look my channel I have stock vs q300 comparison that might help you. Hope that helps! Cheers
Not under warranty anymore but was when I fitted it originally. The answer is not really, but always check if you’re concerned with your dealer! Technically speaking Subaru told me it would void the warranty on my cat-back (obvious) and my exhaust hangers lol. That was it provided it was just a catback. Hope that helps! Cheers
I’ve driven both too, in the end I went STI for the noise, gearbox, badge, and the knowledge of the engine (for better or worse). I don’t regret my choice but I do also think the FA is good engine too!
The FA motor in the WRX is a lot better on gas. That's the one thing I don't like about the STI. They get horrible gas mileage. I sometimes have to fill up twice a week.
The STI EJ25 is reliable if you take good care of it. If you're going to mod then add an AOS - air oil separator and ONLY good quality parts like IAG, Killer B, and Cobb. Change your oil every 3k (miles) or 5k (km). If you don't mind the extra gas, STI is worth it and definitely think of trading in your WRX for the STI. Cheers!
I also don't regret getting my STI over a WRX, and will probably buy it a Q300 largely because of this channel. But yeah, this fuel economy is embarrassing. Subaru would've done better for the customers as well as the environment if they just sourced LS engines from GM for the STI!
Should be, its probably about as legal as you could get with an aftermarket exhaust! Had plenty of police cruise behind or besides me over the years and never had an issue :)
Can’t say the legamax was on my radar when I chose the invidia. But with that said, and a little bit of bias I’d go the Invidia haha. More popular brand here at least in Australia as far as I’m aware. Hope that helps for what it’s worth! Cheers
@@BenCad Thanks I just put this on my STI and this is my 3rd one I have had and it's sitting kinda low. Guess I need to fool with the flanges tomorrow, too tired now.
Nice yeah, you can never get it perfect with the stock hangers - if you look close you’ll see mines on a slight lean. On the to do list to fix but changing exhaust hangers is not very exciting haha.
Hey Jong, not sure how far you made it through the video but I talk about how I recorded it and also have it in the written description. Short answer is yes much of it is from a microphone is on the back of the car, you can also hear the true interior noise (mic in cabin) further in the video. Cheers
