    Great job so far. You Sir, are a technical guru. Few suggestions on mods:
    LED DRL inserted headlight, alloy rims, tidy up all the wiring (no visible wiring), analogue clocks with digital readout for time and gear position indicator, darken the RE logo on the engine casing..... and USD front forks!!

    I like what you've done with the handlebars and risers and headlamp brackets. I don't mind the factory rear light assembly maybe smaller indicators? Agree about the grab rail looks much better without. Great idea about a shorter seat too. I'm really looking forward to seeing a 2 into 1 track and/or scrambler exhaust system. Keep up the good work!

  • @dansidi1
    @dansidi1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very good, thanks for this.
    1. A round rear light is definitely a good idea
    2. Do you have any short levers?
    3. How about vintage-style switch gear?
    4. Gaiters (by the way, what are those fork toppers?)
    5. Hugger for the rear wheel. I know it's not very vintagey, but it would keep the bike clean. If you are looking at the chain guard, then perhaps consider one?
    Looking forward to the next one. Cheers!

    I am so glad I found your channel. I was only recently made aware of the new Royal Enfield twins. I will be getting a motorcycle within the next couple of years, and though I was originally looking at an adventure bike, when I saw the Interceptor 650, that was all it needed. That's my bike.
    I will be extremely interested to follow the progress of your accessories development, especially the classier brackets, and LED lighting. I would also be looking for good pannier brackets and a rear rack for extra fuel.
    I really like where you are going with your ideas on the exhaust system, but I must say that I do not care for the black cans. They have taken out all the thumpy base, and left a rather harsh, brappy sound. I know they are temporary, so I look forward to seeing what else you come up with.
    Yours is one of only a few TH-cam channels that I actually felt that subscribing was a necessity. For anyone considering the purchase of a RE twin, I would say that your channel IS a necessity.
    Cheers.

    I like the sump guard holes for mote ventilation. Whe i installed the re branded one i saw the oil filter not clearing the bracket and started getting upset due to the instructions clearly showing it bot being an issue. I ended up sticking the bracket in a vice and slightly angling ut more. This aligned perfectly with all brackets and allow the oil filter to clear now.

    I haven't used the TEC wrap but I have done it a few times. Wetting the wrap seems to make it expand a tiny bit, so when it dried and shrinks back to it's original size it was nice a tight on the pipe.
    Running the motor immediately after finishing, dried it very quick.
    Maybe it depends on the make of the wrap...

  • @tonyhilliam2407

    Maybe if you start the exhaust wrap from the silencer end, it would be a better streamlining effect, preventing the airflow from lifting the wrap. Just a suggestion that might improve the application.

    Interesting point about the foot-rest carrier. I test-rode an Interceptor this weekend for the first time, and I thought there was something wrong with the RIGHT hand foot-rest. So maybe the QC on the castings needs improvement. I think other testers have mentioned this too....

    Looking forward to part 3, just collected my interceptor. Great videos and site, I'm sure I'll be making some purchases as you develop them. I'm interested in increasing ride height and travel for a more scrambler style bike. Like the pipes but also interested to see what you come up with re a high level unit.

  • @peteaskham145
    @peteaskham145 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great project, really enjoying the transformation. I think a round rear light is the way to go. Might be interesting to see if you can fabricate a bracket to go over and under the frame loop.....I think the light/tail tidy would look even better higher up/nearer the seat. I'd be interested to see what's under those side panels too.....maybe a tiny shorai type battery or a battery eliminator might allow their complete removal. Always good to see the triangle under the seat freed up! Great job so far!

    • @TECBikeParts
      @TECBikeParts  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      not too crowded under the side panels once the air-box is removed. It should be quite straightforward to do.

    Glad to see you are redoing that under guard. The RE one has already garnered complaints from guys in India. But if I get one of these bikes, I would like to have the extra protection, because of the roads around here have some big holes in them and raised manhole covers etc... A black option also sounds great too.

    So far a very good mod job done. All the mods done are high quality and completely functional. You could try to manufacture fork sliders for the front fork and frame sliders at a suitable location in the rear. How about pea shooter exhausts....absolute retro look they would give.....plz keep the episodes coming sir.

  • @ballerblocks
    @ballerblocks 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Really love your project and the focus on one being able to do these things with some design in you process. Pls I would like to know if you would do a wider rear tyre. As the stock size make the bike look a bit too retro. Would prefer a wider tyre size like a 170

    • @georgemilburn6213
      @georgemilburn6213 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It is no problem to use a 150 section tire on the stock rim, any larger would really need a rim change and chain clearance would need to be checked. But beware as wide rear tires will affect the sweet steering on this bike.
      We intend to use an off road 150 section on the rear when it morphs into a scrambler

  • @splodge5714

    Hi I am writing this because in India people are using the inryceptor as a highway tourer .the middle class which so far was unable to afford superbike so far ,deems the Inteceptor as a great bike for the price ..so it's a premium bike for us ..now I did see many new buyers of interceptors in India modifying the seat to make it suitable for touring..but frankly those aren't aesthetic at all..no matter the modifications may be serving a practical purpose..in our previous discussion you had mentioned that saddle kind queen seats are outdated I most of the western countries but on the contrary India where not every biker can afford Harley like cruisers there is a fascination for curved saddle seats .. I can't figure out a way how it can be fitted to the Interceptor due to the straight line of the frame but I think if we can have the bucket seat,there will be many buyers in Indian market ..I too will keenly like to see if such a seat modification is possible .

      It would be so easy for us to throw shed loads of money at this bike and do radical mods for effect. But we want to keep this bikes changes in the realm of the home modifier on a tight budget.
      So I am afraid you will not see exotic and overpriced bling on this project. Some well know custom builders have already done this with sponsorship from RE. We are not building a show bike here, but trying to show a way to personalise and improve this bike . As it has so much potential to be the bike of choice for home modifiers due to it's conventional construction and lack of hi tech parts.

    • @ChaudharyAakarsh
      @ChaudharyAakarsh 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TECBikeParts Great work sir. Just a suggestion, if you look up RE Himalayan and Continental GT collisions in India, you will find pics of stock front forks broken in collision and they look thin and weak for a 200 kg motorcycle. Maybe someday I will save enough to own a small workshop to work on these things, that is how I would love to retire.

      @@manuuer Hi Manish. I did not! I got so used to it that I really dont need to. Happy I can lean quite well at 90+ speed. Reducing height may have limited the lean angle.
      I changed the seat..wider base and 1 cm shaved height.
      I have ridden it on highway, regular road, village road, off road, track and small segment of no trail at all.
      Only dropped it once ( while seated and backing up on a gravel bit, missed my footing).
      My weight is 65 kg and height 166 cm.. After changing exhaust to AEWs, it reduced the weight to below 200 kg. But still mildly heavy.
      Also, centre of gravity is slightly on higher side.

    Not sure if you're gonna go into seats and mounts, but if so, I'd be curious about a different two up seat. The bench doesn't look right IMO. The Continental GT 650 has an optional touring seat that would look great on the Interceptor and should fit, but they don't offer it on their site for the Interceptor, so I'm not sure if it would. So an option that isn't the stock bench one would be worth seeing.

    I like your style. I live in Greece, ride a classic 500 and there is a very enthusiastic local dealer of Enfield and Triumph. I think the Lucas style rear light looks pretty good with your mods. Don't you find the Enfield switch gear to be absolute crap? I just replaced my switches (2009 model) with genuine parts and they're already fading! Nice to see the left side engine shot in your videos, it looks much nicer from that side. Anyway, still waiting for the dealer to get a demo in for a test ride and see if I like it better than the fabulous Street Twin I tried last summer!

    The foot peg casting isn't wrong. The foot peg is like that because it makes it the same distance from the centre line as the other side. The other side sticks out due to the casting over the transmission which forces the other side out to match. It's a design compromise which I'm OK with. If you look at the mcn spy shots of the development hacks you can see they have a much lower profile transmission cover which was probably used while testing different transmissions and engines.

      The pre 2019 street twin has better low down power but runs out of steam above 4000RPM (this has been addressed in the new more expensive 2019 model) The RE650's have a flatter more progressive power curve but considering they are 250cc's down on the Triumph, the bikes are not far apart on performance in the real world, the triumph pulls harder at first but both feel very similar at the top end with virtually the same top speed. A lot of people are comparing this bike with the street twin due to the street being the entry level bike , but I feel the interceptor is closer in style, feel and ride to Triumphs T100 or the kawasaki W800. All 3 bikes have similar retro looks and features, but the interceptor is around £4000 cheaper than the other two bikes with same equipment levels..

    I like the Mods. I am currently torn between the GT and Interceptor. I will be buying in July. I like the looks of the GT but favor the comfort of the Interceptor. Is a slightly raised drag bar a possibility for the interceptor to get the Cafe Look but more upright ride?

    Hello George, another great video on the RE project. Here's my thoughts : I would have the exhausts overall slightly shorter, so that the outer end of the can is closer to the rear wheel spindle, maybe 3-4 inches shorter; The front end looks much nicer altogether; the replacement rear light assembly as shown doesn't work for me - I'm looking forward to seeing the rounded moulding with a round, classic stop light.
    The very best of luck with the RE twin range of products, I'm looking at the bike myself.

      I think we are both on the same page here, already have the round rear light in hand and will be in next part, exhaust front pipe options coming soon

    Hi, excellent work sir, I have a question regarding the Interceptor 650, I am have been searching the answer for it and even the service centre people can't solve it, they say that its in all the Interceptor and the gt as they are parallel twin and they have a 270 degree firing order, couldn't understand that's why I am asking it, the issue is why does the rpm keeps fluctuating,

      It would be a far easier to upgrade the caliper to a 4 or 6 pot

    The Bike looks great!! I'm not a huge fan of chrome either. Unlike some of the comments I think the exhaust wrap really suits the bike and would keep it as it is if this was my bike. If i was to wrap my own exhaust on an interceptor would I be able to leave it on for a few years or do you need to regularly re-wrap? Are you able to put knobby / scrambler type tyres on this bike? that would obviously 'finish' the look. Great work!!

      Hi
      If you regularly clean the wrap it can last for years but the colour will fade in time. We intend to fit off road tires eventually but limited brands available in these sizes . will probably use 150 rear and 110 front K60 type as we have used these in the past and very good value and performance. They also look very aggressive.

    The continental GT has the centre stand removed for 'weight savings'... I think I'd rather have it for the maintenance and parking convenience. Assuming they are the same frame with the same mountings so hopefully just a bolt on part. could you design a center stand for continental GT models?

    Hello , great intro , now you have had the bike for a while could I ask how the black rim s are doing , I notice the silver ones may have anodised rims but look like they have issues correct me if I am wrong, Q will the original indicators still fit with your brackets Q , you said that we could service the bike ourselves ( naturally you will need to be competent , how does this effect the warranty , thank you in advance

      @@TECBikeParts I was wondering if you could give a thought on fitting the NRC tail tidy or the Crafton atelier Cat eye fender eliminator kit supplemented with your beautiful little led turn signals. I love the minimalistic design at the rear.

    Looks great. I plan on swapping out the bars when I get one of these. They're not in the states yet, but they will be soon. I'm not a fan of the bars they come with. Why did you use the handlebar risers?
