I love Manchester Black as a antithesis to Superman's morals and how he represents a cynical viewpoint on humanity in contrast to Clarks optimism. I too at least hope he is a member of the team because he was a member back in Grant Morrisons run. I do think they are building up to some kind of Authority Vs Superman project but maybe not Superman's first film since recent rumors just about 5 hours ago say Brainiac is the villain of the movie with a possible plot synopsis. I think that's going to be a part of it, but I also like that it means James Gunn isn't trying to do an origin for superheroes existing. Because there are multiple legacy heroes, Gunn's DC universe is going to have a history of superheroes, unlike in Man of Steel or Iron Man. The Boys showed that that can work really well, especially now that most people are generally familiar with superheroes, and I think it's going to allow the DC films to be more flexible with characters, settings and time periods.
I haven't heard of this actress before but I am incredibly happy for her to be cast as the character as she seems very enthusiastic about the role and I love to see that. I doubt The Engineer will actually be the villain for the movie, as there are tons of better actual Superman villains out there to use than a member of a anti hero team. In fact just recently, about 5 hours ago there are new rumours that Brainiac is going to be the villain for the movie, which I love since Brainiac is a villain fans have wanted to see for a while. Yeah, we've been waiting for Brainiac for too long, what with his cancelled Superman 3 appearance, Cancelled Superman Returns 2 appearance, and cancelled MOS 2 appear. He's a classic villain that challenges Superman in everyway and ties back to his home planet.
I agree, that just like what makes a good captain america, is having a superman who can have a philosophical debate with another character. Then having his perspective ultimately validated as the better or moral position. I think Gunn is the perfect writer/director to pull this off in a meaningful way without it being cringey.
I feel like Gunn's super hero projects have a reputation for being snarky and crude, but really they're the most earnest stories in their respective universes. He can do sincerity in a great way that few superhero directors can. That's why he's a perfect pick for Superman.

She is the spirit of the 20th century, and there are spirits of every century prior who all live in a dedicated afterlife that Jenny Quantum can access. In fact at the top of Spark’s arc in the comic run (in a flashback I believe) we see her inherit her mantle from the spirit of the 19th century who dies at midnight on New Year’s Eve.
So Gunn really didn’t say The Authority aren’t in the movie. He also did the “I never said” about Lex. He was just saying he wasn’t confirming. So I’m confident The Authority will be in it. Which makes me excited for the movie, and makes an Authority movie a better business decision.

I'm sure I'm reaching wildly here, but I think it would be super cool if there is already a superhero team in this universe that the Justice League will eventually grow to replace. I think that would be an interesting way to make sure a) that we're not just getting MCU Phase 1 with DC characters, but also to tell a more hopeful and upbeat story in this era of superhero movies where we expect a greater deal of skepticism about the concept. I think in the era of Homelander and Omniman, we need more than capes and spandex to get on board with the idea that one man with all this power will use it for good.
I think the introduction of Wonder Woman in BVS into the DCEU was perfect, and should be applied on how to introduce and generate hype for other characters that will feature in a future film. So, show the character on production stills, but, surprise the heck out of everyone by having the character play a key scene stealing role in the 3rd act. Then, rekease the character's film, with the publics desire whetted by the first film.

All right, here is my… Pitch?… Theory? IDEA here is my IDEA for the basic plot of Superman legacy. Superman has been doing his thing for about two years, he operates mostly out of metropolis, and he’s feeling somewhat angsty. Over the question of “am I doing enough?“ When he is approached by Mr. terrific to join his team of superheroes which for this comment I’m going to call the JSA. The JSA consists of: mr. terrific, Metamorpho, Hawkgirl, Green lantern, the engineer, jack Hawksmoor, the hat, and Manchester Black. Superman joins the team and gets along with most of them as they fight some big threat, maybe it’s the DC terrorist group Cobra, no affiliation with the G.I. Joe villains, during which superman begins to suspect that Manchester black is not a good person, not JUST that he’s a superhero who kills, but because he seems to demonstrate sadism and a complete disregard for the lives of civilians. Superman eventually calls Manchester out, but because this is the midpoint of the film and superman has not completed his arc yet, his passionate speech does not sway the entire JSA against Manchester. The movie ends with Superman officially joining the team, having learnt some kind of lesson that got him through his angst. Mid credits scene: Mr. terrific tells Superman they need to expand membership of the team, maybe give it a new name 😉, and that he knows a guy in Gotham city who would make a good fit. Credits

There is a comic arc actually wherein the Engineer tries to kill off other authority members, especially Midnighter. Granted, it’s not the normal way she is portrayed and at the time she was being partially controlled by a sort of virus after literally ingesting a baddie- but it’s not out of the question. My favorite portrayal of Angela is in the new 52 run, but I don’t think we are getting that one because we would be skipping a ton of the original comic stories for a retelling where all of the characters are pretty different, and all largely altruistic. My guess is we’re going to see the fall of Bendix and Stormwatch, prior to the formation of the authority after Sparks destroys Bendix. That would give us Sika, Hawksmoor, Sparks and Swift, but before Sparks recruits them. Unfortunately this is also before they find and recruit Apollo and Midnighter, but my guess is that if these characters a hit, Gunn will give them their own story before connecting them to the Authority.
Honestly if we're putting Manchester Black in the Authority I think hed be a better replacement for Jack Hawksmoor than Jenny. I feel like we're definetly gonna see the arc of the Authority turning Heel after Jenny Sparks dies and someone else takes the leadership and Manchester Black has more in common with Jack in terms of what he does.

There hasn't been even the slightest hint that The elite is being used in any way at all. Also, The Authority wouldn't recruit ex-Eliters. The elite are exactly the kind of superpeople The Authority has issues with.

My bold prediction is this movie will start with an olllld Superman at the end of time fighting one last battle to save the universe, and he realizes the only way to do that is to create a new Big Bang or something, thus creating a new universe, cue opening credits and our new, young Superman. You know, I really have no desire to see the authority on film. Like, give me good movies with good versions of the main DC characters and I'll be happy, I don't need to see these deep cut characters or even the dozens of other side characters that have apparently been cast. I just want a superman movie with superman in it.
I'll be honest, I'm really hoping we don't get "What's So Funny About...". Partly because I don't want the Authority turned into their pastiches in the Elite, but also because I don't think it really meshes with what Gunn's said about the story - that it's about Superman reconciling his Kryptonian and Earth heritages. The rumours we've heard since about Brainiac make much more sense in that regard. I can imagine members of the Authority (or maybe something like Stormwatch initially) fitting in the film the same way the JLers probably will, just not as the primary antagonists.

The Authority goes after Superman-level threats that are killing in the kind of numbers a Superman-level threat can kill.
They will definitely not kill any villain.
There is a comic arc actually wherein the Engineer tries to kill off other authority members, especially Midnighter. Granted, it’s not the normal way she is portrayed and at the time she was being partially controlled by a sort of virus after literally ingesting a baddie- but it’s not out of the question. My favorite portrayal of Angela is in the new 52 run, but I don’t think we are getting that one because we would be skipping a ton of the original comic stories for a retelling where all of the characters are pretty different, and all largely altruistic. My guess is we’re going to see the fall of Bendix and Stormwatch, prior to the formation of the authority after Sparks destroys Bendix. That would give us Sika, Hawksmoor, Sparks and Swift, but before Sparks recruits them. Unfortunately this is also before they find and recruit Apollo and Midnighter, but my guess is that if these characters a hit, Gunn will give them their own story before connecting them to the Authority.

Honestly if we're putting Manchester Black in the Authority I think hed be a better replacement for Jack Hawksmoor than Jenny.
I feel like we're definetly gonna see the arc of the Authority turning Heel after Jenny Sparks dies and someone else takes the leadership and Manchester Black has more in common with Jack in terms of what he does.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, given their origins, if The Elite are villains in Superman Legacy but the redeemable ones end up in recruited into The Authority, I will be very amused.
There hasn't been even the slightest hint that The elite is being used in any way at all. Also, The Authority wouldn't recruit ex-Eliters. The elite are exactly the kind of superpeople The Authority has issues with.

No, her powerset is nanotech weapons, not AI stuff. She's not a robot or cyborg. Also, she has never been a villain.

My bold prediction is this movie will start with an olllld Superman at the end of time fighting one last battle to save the universe, and he realizes the only way to do that is to create a new Big Bang or something, thus creating a new universe, cue opening credits and our new, young Superman.

No idea whats going on in this film after all the casting news, honestly with all this side characters I do feel like its going to be too much too soon. Mister Terrific and Metamorpho I assume are going to be the Terrifics so nothing more than a cameo, is Guy already a Lantern or is he just still a cop? I agree with Nando that Hawkgirl is likely a stand in for Swift in The Authority but are they Stormwatch in this movie and become The Authority in the own film?

Brainiac is the villain, which I'm not disappointed because I love Brainiac and yes he's a Supes villain but I feel like he is a Justice League threat. The tweet mentions Kryptonian technology in a middle eastern country so Qurac? Bialya? And that Waller and General Lane send the Authority to investigate and Superman goes to learn more about his origins, the Authority came about because Stormwatch was discontinued so maybe it's that instead.
I really don't know what is going on with this all and I'm tentatively intrigued

I feel like James Gunn going "they're not villains" is a bit of nitpicking and misdirection, that they'll be the main antagonists largely in the way it was described, that they'll have the same objective goal of stopping the actual villains but butt heads over how to do so

You know, I really have no desire to see the authority on film. Like, give me good movies with good versions of the main DC characters and I'll be happy, I don't need to see these deep cut characters or even the dozens of other side characters that have apparently been cast. I just want a superman movie with superman in it.

I'll be honest, I'm really hoping we don't get "What's So Funny About...". Partly because I don't want the Authority turned into their pastiches in the Elite, but also because I don't think it really meshes with what Gunn's said about the story - that it's about Superman reconciling his Kryptonian and Earth heritages. The rumours we've heard since about Brainiac make much more sense in that regard. I can imagine members of the Authority (or maybe something like Stormwatch initially) fitting in the film the same way the JLers probably will, just not as the primary antagonists.
