The actor playing Jack Hawksmoor changing accents and dialects in each city the character interacts with would be fire🔥
I find any casting rumors put out during the strikes extra dubious, like, entertainment news is desperate for something to talk about, but I overall don't hate these. But I also really wanted Lee Pace.
I was furiously googling, trying to find out when they made a new Green Lantern with Gerard Butler, then I realised he said 'Greenland.'
Dude, I heard the same! Like, I definitely gave that movie a skip, but was thinking did I miss something? Was that a superhero movie disguised as a disaster film?
I was like “oh yay, 5 min of Nando” earlier and now I’m just being spoiled
Spoiler for what?
@@jetuwu8960 Spoiled in the sense that I’m being given more than I need or deserve, not in the plot detail sense
I was literally just commenting about how much I enjoy seeing Nando upload 🎉 we getting treated like kids at Carnival 🎡
Tempted to get Nebuka atp 😂
When it rains
Gunn said the entire DCU will be a story about love. There is no way they dont make Henry "love doesnt work" Bendix the villain of this movie.
That could very well be. I have a feeling that instead of the genuine Authority we might end up with a mix of Stormwatch, the Authority, and WildCats. In that case you cannot not have Bendix in the mix.
so he’s already ruined the DCU and it hasn’t even started yet ☠️🤡
@@iiyeyitosii8523lol based on someone’s random speculation? Use your common sense, please
@@iiyeyitosii8523Sorry it won't be edgy enough for you buddy
God I hope this movie doesn't happen. I have 0 interest in watching the Wildstorm characters be butchered like the rest of the DC characters.
as a dutch guy, I hope they keep that part of the doctor. We don't get a lot of dutch characters in roles like this.
alstublieft 😅
Michiel Huisman?
Sorry, if its white doesnt matter unfortunately :(
These are perfect, just swap the M & A with your picks and it’d be some of the best casting in a superhero movie ever. Like spot on to me
Warren Ellis admittedly tends to write characters british-sounding sometimes regardless of where they're actually supposed to be from within the context of his story, it's just a little bit of himself bleeding through. That's probably why at points Jack had the Billy Butcher thing going on.
Lee Pace not being Apollo is a crime worthy of international prosecution. The dude sooooo deserves it and we deserve it too. He's just SO good, and right now in Foundation as Day, he's hitting a lot of notes that I think really show just how good he'd be as Apollo. Like, watch Foundation, it's great and he's incredible in it.
I’m super excited to see where James Gunn is going with this!
This has crazy fancasting energy but it cooks pretty well?
John Rocha isn't really a scooper. He used to be part of Schmoedown and AMC/Collider Movie Talk in the mid-2010s. He has real sources and industry connections. The fact that he's "60-40" on this tells me he's starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel with his sources through the strike lol.
So yeah I don't think any of this is accurate
John Rocha is a hack.
Love most of your suggestions here, the only change I'd suggest though is Jenny Sparks should be played by Florence Pugh. She's PERFECT for the role - looks the part, definitely got the acting AND action chops, and if you've ever seen her on Hot Ones you'll know she's got the right blend of "feminine but could also outdrink the boys" energy.
can’t believe I subbed Nando vs movies for years and only found this recently.
Idk what it is about Nando videos but they’re they best thing of my day when they’re uploaded, I think there’s something just so nice about watching someone knowledgeable talking about things and giving their opinion in a rational and considerate way
Im totally down for this cast if these are in fact confirmed as the cast of The Authority. Although I would be lying if I didn't say I would prefer actors who are actually gay or LGBTQ to play Midnighter and Apollo, but regardless Sam Worthington (who was my fan-casting for Metallo) and Alexander Skarsgard be pretty solid pics to play those characters.
NANDO i love the amount of content and your stances on everything. keep it up!!!
the thing making me think these aren't real is that they are all decently well known actors. Gunn has been known to cast lesser known actors quite often, so I'm not really believing this one.
Gunn casted John Cena in Suicide Squad 2021 and gave him his own show.
True but these are unknown characters that cant sell a movie. They need well known actors playing them to sell the Authority movie.
I really hope Midnighter and Apollo rumors are false. There are so many great gay and bi actors that deserve these roles. Nando’s picks were 💯
I don't see Skarsgard (he would, but) and Sam Worthington making out. Either Gunn won't make the characters a couple (which can be quite problematic on twitter) or it's fake casting (which I believe it is)
It'd be pretty hot though right?
Yeah. I feel better about Skarsgard than Worthington for sure. And I agree; I don't think he'd be afraid of the Apollo's queerness.
Or maybe they can be gay without making out and being super obvious about it.
@@kerrykrish1291
Funny how nobody ever makes that demand about straight characters.
@@kerrykrish1291
1) you don't know what I am or anything about me
2) characters making out doesn't make "their sexual preference their only defining characteristic". It is a PART of who they are, not their entirety (just like when hetero characters sexuality is part of a story).
3) Midnighter and Apollo are explictly in a sexual relationship; it's a huge part of both characters and it always has been.
Why is representation automatically framed by you as needing to be "at the cost of a good movie and compelling story"? If that happens, it's just bad writing, but it's not going to be bad writing simply because their sexuality is visible.
Cut the bullshit. We see heterosexual characters being sexual all the time without anybody spouting this kind of crap, especially when they are couples.
Just be honest, you're squeamish. Get over it.
For a second i thought the guy in the thumbnail was Ewan McGregor. He can be in one of these i think. He was real exited about being in more Star Wars even though Obi Wan was kinda bad, so maybe a super hero role would be fun for him. He is a good actor after all
might be a stretch but i feel like he could be a good Black Mask. Idk tho
@@nevadaadie8881I don't think he'd ever play Black Mask, I don't know why but it feels like a role he wouldn't want to play, even if it was in an underrated film three and a half years ago. Just doesn't sound right.
As a Dutchman, yes, we do have a silly accent
"Yes, I have a Dutch accent. Isn't that weird?"

Hey nando love your videos!!! Just a quick idea for a video but what superheroes would YOU love to see in the DCU ??
im gonna need the story behind that potato with eyes thats on your desk
Wake up babe, nando posted
Saoirse Ronan’s versatility and depth would make her my pick for Jenny Sparks. Jeffrey Dean Morgan could absolutely kill it as Jack Hawksmoor. And Eiza González would totally nail the role of Angie Spica. Need some good roles for her.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan 20 years ago would be amazing. I love him, but I'm afraid he's just too old for what should be a phenomenally physical role.
14:00- there is also the crazy psycho serial killer doctor they have to set free at some point and then have to take down. And there is a sort of council of Doctors that the prime doctor speaks with on the astral plane. Anyway, lots of Doctors to choose from, but regardless of the actor they choose I hope they go with the prime one. The character has a lot to say, especially in context with the rest of the crew. :)
Good casting choices, and I'm pumped Drew Goddard might write it, The dude is a great and funny writer, and he could make this movie something speical
If he's writing, Gunn is cooking something special for sure.
Spica means Spike in Spanish. I don't know the source material well, but with a name like Angela Spica from NY, not only does it appear to be a reference to her Latina-ness, but also her outward appearance.
I can't wait to see the reaction of dude-bros when they realise a Superman and Batman type characters are gay. But dear oh dear, please not Worthington!
sending those daily positive vibes from Houston everyone!🙏🏽🌊
Cuando haras tu fan story de authority
The Engineer sounds like a great part, but Keke Palmer as Livewire / Leslie Willis is where the money is at. I haven't seen that role rumored anywhere but Keke would be absolutely perfect.
Oh shit yeah... She got amazing charisma, and that's what Livewire's got to have. However, it does dive in to the tired trope of 'every lightning comic book character is black'.
@RickReasonnz Yeah I get that, but I don't think it's a good enough reason to pass on Keke in a role she would own. We'd still have Amanda Waller, Mr. Terrific, John Stewart and potentially others that aren't electric. The solution is finding more roles not less.
@@9ineRunner Kerry Washington for Amanda Waller. If you've seen her in Scandal, you'd definitely want her to have a rival/ romance with Lex Luthor.
I can believe man is getting an new movie
Midnighter needs his own movie
I guess you were right about the Authority being the villian Nando. She just got cast. María Gabriela De Faría
She is not the main villain
Prob some end scenes or side scenes
2 uploads in one day?!?!?!?!
This is the lineup I want for the Authority which might seem op
Manchester Black
Jenny Sparks
Engineer
Doctor
Midnighter
Apollo
Swift
Hawksmore
The High
Hm... What if they got Daniel Kaluuya to do his Cobie from Spiderverse as Manchester Black?
I m with you on the Midnighter and Apollo castings they are the two I m most worried about , as a young gay man in my 20s when they first debuted I found their love story both comforting and epic. Out of all of these members these two HAVE to be done right. Because they can continue and hold their own movie
Probably for other rreasons there won't be gay relationships between Apollo and midnighter in live action
Because otherwise they will loose their Asian market
Having no attachment to The Authority (most of what I know about them come from previous Nando vids, particularly the casting ones), I can't say I'm unhappy with any of the choices, but nothing that wows me quite yet (this has sadly been the theme for Gunn's DCU casting). That said, just because I'm not blown away by the picks when they're announced, it doesn't mean they won't end up doing a fantastic job - I'm certainly willing to wait and see, keeping an open mind as best I can.
i think that is a good thing. assuming they work annd dont fail at doing what they have to do. the best casting decidions are the ones that make you go. that will never work what were they thinking, only to then go this was the perfect casting my opinion aged like milk.
Brosnahan and Gisondo are god tier picks for Lois and Olsen. You know very little about acting if you think hiring an A lister is what makes a good casting.
@@nalday2534 I am not sure I'd say "god tier" so much as "pretty safe", but that's fine. It's not that I was expecting giant names, it's that the most positive feeling I have toward the choices so far have been "yeah, that'd probably work well" with some more "okay, I guess that could work". I'm just not that excited to see any of these, but I'm willing to give them a shot - Gunn has done rather well with his movies' casts so far.
María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica / The Engineer
Nando we've known that Ncuti Gatwa is the next Doctor for ages now.
I don’t think the actors need to be gay for the role of Midnighter and Apollo but the characters definitely do.
yeah i don't understand this thing people have with getting mad about straight actors playing gay characters. gay actors play straight characters all the time, i don't see the issue
as a queer person, personally think it should be 75% ish of all gay roles should be played by a gay actor, it’s constantly straight actor after straight actor having a lot of these roles it’s boring
The same people who say a gay character should be played by a gay person, are the same people who praise a movie for race swapping the main character.
1. Jodie Comer As Jenny Sparks
2. John Cusack As Jack Hawksmoor
3. Demi Singleton As The Engineer
4. Riz Ahmed As The Doctor
5. Wentworth Miller As Midnighter
6. Matt Bomer As Apollo
Wasnt bendix in the authority? Do you think he could show up?
I'd love to see a really nasty Bendix.
Interesting topic
Love these castings hope at least some of them are true
The authority will take place in the 90s
Eddie Redmayne as The Doctor
Gerard Butler is great in Law-Abiding Citizen
Also first Wildstorm movie
I don’t particularly believe it, I’m not sure why but it just doesn’t feel right. On the topic, I think Apollo is the role that would be right for Nicholas Hoult, clearly he’s gonna be in one of these soon
How about Richard Armitage for Midnighter?
Avatar has been in many, MANY Christian movies… idk if he’s going for this ?
this seems like too many high-profile picks to sound plausible to me, but who knows i guess
Just realized Lee Pace is an extra good pick beyond just fitting the role super well -- he's been in a Gunn film before
Sam worthington? As midnighter? Hopefully this leak is fake
Nando I never really cared for Gerard Butler but he can definitely do tough, watch a movie called Den of Thieves, I hated his character but I thought he sunk into the role well
a growing sentiment after public situations in which authors, actors and such have gotten so much public criticism that they were forced out of the closet (most recently Kit Connor, 18 years old at the time) that i think needs to be considered as well. actors don't need to identify as anything because they don't owe their sexuality/identity to the public. so i think it shouldn't be an issue for casting
am i the only person who thinks this sounds like an insanely expensive and a-list cast for a b-list team like the authority? ive been seeing less and less big names like keira knightley in cape movies so im pretty sure this list is a pipe dream but id love to be wrong
Tbf this team’s the type of more unknown characters for general audiences where it would make the most sense. If they’re being set up as one of the main teams in the DCU proper with their own movie then to appeal to general audiences I could def see them getting big names to push them since the teams more unknown.
i mean i could say that about guardians of the galaxy in 2013 or whenever it was announced
@@oscarkamalathey definitely weren't a list actors though. Chris prat was really only known for parks and recreation at the time. Bradley Cooper was known, but he was only the voice of rocket. Most people don't even know Vin Diesel is Groot. Zoe Saldana wasn't in much besides Avatar, but again, most people don't even know that was her, she was covered in cgi. And Dave Bautista was just a wrestler.
@@meathandsmansShe was in the JJ Abrams Star Trek movies.
@@oscarkamala the guardians definitely had an a-list cast but that was in 2013 right around the beginning of the comic book movie boom so lots of actors were looking to get in on big multi-picture contracts. nowadays with the decline of the mcu and the constant struggle that dc seems to go through idk if these studios can really afford that many big names like that anymore
This is a serious video
Tbh i want a real gay actors to play midnighter and appollo i think the names are for some reason it just comes off as fake otherwise or unbelievable that theses two people would like each other
Re: kissing. Marvel hasn’t been sexy since the first iron man movie, and I don’t remember any DCEU sexy scenes.
What about when Diana and Steve slept-oh wait, nevermind. That was more creepy than anything considering she basically assaulted another person's body while his soul was dormant.
Clark getting into the bath with Lois is *kind of* sensual
TSS and Peacemaker came out in 2020s but okay
well i agree with your sentiment at the end, alexander skarsgaard is a better actor then RDJ, i'll say it 🤷♂️
watch gerard butler in den of thieves and you’ll see hawksmore in the flesh
Casting a Black woman to play a Latino coded character feels unnecessary but honestly this entire idea of Frontlining the Authority of all groups feels weird.
Latinos aren't there to support their own when it counts. Did they show up to support Blue Beetle? No.
These castings are so "fan casty" if that makes sense. They are very basic and sort of what you would expect. The only picks I like are Keke Palmer and Riz Ahmed. Kiera Knightly is okay.
I love keke Palmer I hope she is in the movie. She is hilarious
I swear I saw this video months ago 😅
I really hope they dont waste ken watanabe on a one off villain
I might be biased because I loved your fancast but I'm not a big fan of those picks, especially for Midnighter and Apollo. I would guess James Gunn is probably heavily involved in the casting of these projects, so I think this is fake - he has to be aware of the public's want for queer actors playing queer characters, and it's not like they're lacking in terms of choice. This list feels like a random bunch of actors instead of deliberate picks. That being said, I would love to see Keke Palmer and Riz Ahmed in one of these.
PS: I don't recall you mentioning if you've ever watched Gotham, but Cameron Monaghan is really good in that show.
Zane Philips for apollo!
Same opinion tbh, i think we need gay actors for midnighter and appolo like thats such a Big part of those character THEY NEED TO BE PLAYED BY GAY ACTORS PLEASE JAMES GUNN
No, they don't. Gay people are not physically different from straight ones. This is the same kind of stupidity as suggesting only the handicapped should play the handicapped or only Jews should play Jews. It's called pretend.
I'm about as familiar with The Authority as I was with the Guardians of the Galaxy when that first film was announced. Less even. While I love these casting videos, I really can't know who would be good as what so it's hard to get excited. Don't mean to be a Debbie Downer.
Lee Pace really would outdo as Apollo.....
The doctor has suicide squad energy
Keke Palmer to midnighter and apollo's casting is a wild decline
I like Riz too
I love your picks for Midnighter and Apollo, but I'd switch them.
The "rumored" picks are a complete letdown. Gay actors get like 1% of roles, much less gay roles which usually go to straight actors, and it's really patronizing to watch two straight guys get praised for taking opportunities from gay actors while struggling to get through a kiss
Any actor who struggles to kiss someone they aren't attracted to is a shit actor.
But, yeah. Other than that, I agree.
Fan from Pakistan
Well, five of six were good
Nando, I love your videos and never fail to watch an upload.... but PLEASE start pronouncing Domhnall Gleeson's name correctly 😂😂
Its an Irish name, so the MH letters in his name aren't pronounced, and instead just stretch the O that comes before, so it sounds like Doh-nall (or Donal in the anglicized version)
Sincerely,
Someone who's been raised in Ireland for the last 25+ years and still doesn't understand how to speak Irish
Kira knightly would not sign up to this kind of obligation, those aren’t the types of movies she makes anymore, this is someone’s fan cast they’ve sent you, you been duped
She should be Cable.
@@user-oz3um2ii7o If you meant starring on Cable then yes
In my opinion Gerard Butler might be a little too old, but maybe I'm wrong
The funny thing is, it sounds like The Authority is basically Zack Snyder's wet dream and forté. He should've made this movie instead of forcing his edge lord vision on DC's Trinity lmao. And honestly, based on Watchmen being pretty decent... I think I may actually LIKE the movie if he directed it. I'm not a big fan of Snyder... but I really do think it would be like a perfect pairing lol.
Although, imagine if he was like, "Oh gay Batman & Superman? Great. 😈" and then ruined Midnighter and Apollo by making them caricatures or whatever lol. It could also go really poorly, maybe. Idk. He doesn't necessarily seem like the type to hate LGBT+ or ruin them intentionally... but he also doesn't necessarily seem like the type who might bring in a special consultant or something to ensure he did that relationship justice. I honestly think it may be kinda 50/50 with him if he did it well or ruined it. But honestly, if both characters survive the movie (which they probably would), it may not be beyond salvaging later lol. Idk.
I find Sam Worthington extremely uncompelling as a performer and would be disappointed with him playing one of the highest profile gay superheroes. I’m not opposed to being proven wrong but I would not be excited about that casting. I’m not someone who needs the gay characters to be played by a gay actor but at least a good actor ie Alexander Skarsgard
Sam Worthington is underwhelming in alot of Hollywood stuff but is a great actor in Australian movies like Transfusion
Dc comics rumors
Authority r film
On the villain, I think EVERYTHING about this movie would be hard to pull off if they stuck close to the source material. I don't get what people see in Ellis and Millar comics.
I genuinely hate Sam Worthington as Midnighter. I HATE IT!
I do not know the Midnighter character but out of all the actors rumoured Sam is by far the toughest actor that could bring out the violent vigilante side the best by far, but I doubt he would convince in the gay romance department, I just haven't seen that side to him in anything but doesn't mean he can't do it. But really the role should go to an actor from the LGBT side of things though to be honest.
The Authority has no business being a chapter one film for the DC cinematic universe (take 3..?). But good luck to them.
Gunn knows more about DC and storytelling than you but sure go off
@@nalday2534 and you drew that conclusion from jokes about Aquaman f*cking fish, and Batman being called a p*ssy? Or was it Superman having a poop fetish?

Fact check: the Dutch accent *is* objectively silly. I lived in NL for years, speak passable Dutch, and it's just a very silly sounding accent.
Being honest, after going through this roster, this seems like a horrible idea as one of DC's new direction franchises. They have no big character name recognition and through the lens that the US finds itself, currently, I can see accusations of a team made up of 'diverse & politically correct' characters. If this movie succeeds, it will be purely on star/name recognition alone, w/ such a dense roster, I doubt there'll be any chance of a 'good' story for these characters to be introduced to.
I collected comics starting w/ 2000 AD in the early 70's all the way 'til the constant cross over story lines did me in, in the 90's, (which seems to be where Marvel was headed w/ it's obscene output on Disney+, too much mundane, too little 'must see'), so I've seen comic books at their utmost variety. To me this IP seems ripe for overdone attempts at appeasing/appealing to every segment of the population, I can't believe it'll be anything but bland...
Good take. I had never heard of any of these characters. But I can already tell that if Gunn makes a movie based on these characters, it will be very controversial. Some will say the movie is too woke. Others will say it's not woke enough.
Well if you want comics why don't you just read the comics boring nerd ?
Please no Keira Knightley … she over acts and looks like, in every scene, she knows and expects everyone to be thinking of how beautiful she is … if they use her … they NEED to play of that incredible ego … maybe people make a lot of passing comments that she smells bad or needs to clean up … etc … oof. No.
I think they should retcon or just erase their gay relationships in live action
Nuh don't want superman batman to be gay type copies
Lee Pace deserves better than that. Luke Evans should be playing comic accurate NAMOR or Mr. Sinister. Authority is already a flop. The Gunn Universe is DOA.
Gunn's career will still live on tho. But you know what won't? Snyderverse
I love both the Snyderverse and James Gunn's movies and James Gunn is a way darker guy with way darker sensibilities than Snyder will ever be or have, Gunn is better at bringing his darkness in with added frivolity and sexual humour and has a viciousness and maliciousness to all of his movies, which is something that I like (Snyder is way too soft to kill certain fluffy characters Gunn did in the last Guardians movie for instance) I'm looking forward to Gunn's take on things, if he doesn't get cancelled for something beforehand lol @@nalday2534
DOA ? Already a flop ? How ? The Gunn universe hasn't even started yet there's no official casting other than Superman and Lois Lane
Why does it matter if the actors playing Apollo or Midnighter are gay or not? Actors pretend to be people they are not for a living. Should they also be looking for actual superhumans to portray superheroes too? Both Luke Evans and Lee Pace are fantastic choices for Midnighter and Apollo not because they're gay but because they're good actors. Casting should always prioritize talent and suitability for the role, regardless of an actor's sexual orientation.
Hi gay person here, I really want straight people to stop telling us gay people need to play gay roles, because that’s not always the best choice and I’d rather be an actor who’s best for the character. This kind of thinking could also be used to say gay actors can’t play straight roles and that’s not right either. As long as the actor isn’t homophobic and commits to portraying a realistic gay character that’s all that matters to me and I think Alexander Skarsgard will be great.
He was great in True Blood
He does look the part of Apollo.
I don't think it's matter of gay actors should only play characters but rather there's a huge HUGE scarce in gay roles when it comes to big tentpole movies so now that we're finally getting something, it ends up being a straight person? Idk, it's first time a DC film will be putting 2 openly gay characters in a big movie. I think it's okay for them to go with gay actors who also act the part, at least in this case.
Again, wake me up when they got actors for the Batfamily.
For me I don’t care if an actor is like the character irl. They are getting paid to act so if they can act the part then I’m for it.
But I mean cmon. Just cast a gay actor for Midnight and Apollo man, like why take that away from the lgbt community especially for non A-listers? Their relationship is a core part of their characters, would be like if they casted non asians for Shang-chi or Kenan Kong imo
@@Junya01 i definitely don’t think it’s the same as casting a non Asian. Race is more visual than sexual preference. To me the most important thing when casting is are they the best person for that role. If they are gay, cool. If not, still works to me. The point of acting is to pretend to be someone you aren’t. So whoever is the best at doing that for how that character is written is who is like to see play that role. And only James Gunn will know who fits the character he wrote best.
@@rlee7389it's still an issue because there are barely any homosexual characters in Hollywood, especially in big tentpole films based on IPs and then whatever small roles they have is going to a straight person? Nahhh
@@nalday2534 i disagree

Sam Worthington is such a bad actor it kills some of my excitement. I think he’s a black hole of charisma.
Charisma is when actors makes constant quips while tilting their eyebrows 24/7
His performance in Australian stuff (like Transfusion) is better than alot of your favourite actors could ever hope to achieve lol, but yes he has been dull in a few Hollywood movies over the years, but I'd take him over vanilla plain white bread dullard Timothee Chalamet any day of the week lol
