- Sorry it's been so long for this update....
I shot this months ago, but started a new job and haven't had the time to revisit this.
I upgrade the CPU's to 2 x Xeon X590's - £65 from ebay...... While I was at it, I swapped the GPU and NVME Card around - this works better but you only have access to 3 card slots now.... as the GPU blocks the lower x4 Slot. Hey ho.
I dropped Monterey and Opencore in favour of going back to Mojave for now. Once the system and configuration has settled, I may come back to Opencore, but Mojave works for me at the moment. - วิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี
I'm glad to see another progress video!👍👍
Great video, I have exactly the same 5.1. Using with a 30" Cinema HD Display. I am very happy with it.
Mojave definitely the best version 4 this Mac just got mine for 100$ threw in an m.2 for another 100 crazy potential with it using for music production
Hey man, great videos. Keep it up!
The NVMe you‘re using is installed on a ASUS hyper M.2 card if I’m not wrong. Is that right? And if so, are you able to install more than one NVMe on to the Card? I bought one myself, because I thought it is pretty convenient to install 4 NVMe‘s to one card but they were not recognized for me.
Thanks
I’ve only installed 1 NVME card for now, so can’t comment on multiple.
@@retro-unboxing it requires bifurcation to split the pcie lanes from x16 to x4x4x4x4 which the mac pro does not have so it wont recognize more than one ssd
Same set up as mine but do you know of anywhere that has done a video/review side by side test against our old dinosaurs and the newer M macs? Be fascinating to see export times from final cut Pro etc
Flex alert!*. I’ve got an M1 Max studio, and and m2 max MacBook….. I plan to do a comparison at some point… it’s just getting time to do it!
For you what is the best value graphics card for the Mac Pro Advanced 5.1?
I have the same setup except for a 4.1 flashed to 5.1 and SSDs vs NVMEs. I want to install OpenCore and have created the boot disk but unfortunately with RX580 card I can not see the boot sequence and am stuck. Would love to get Monterey on it though . . . any suggestions?
try this, create a usb with oclp, then just plug in the hard drive formated and then turn off your mac pro, i did something like this, acctually i have mac pro 5.1 with monterey and rx 580
@@GAMG83 Hard drives, ssds, nmves should never be plugged in or pulled out of a powered up Mac Pro.
Does anyone know if the "after Xeon x5690" processor, appeared as a new better processor 2023 for Mac Pro 5,1?
but can it run crysis
😂 I'll have to check it out!!
