    Good video. I didn't know those cards could work fine with only an 8 PIN connector and the power from the PCI slot. Thank you for showing us this. RX590, maybe my next card now.

    • @gamewizard1760
      @gamewizard1760 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You should only run it using the stock BIOS, not the overclocked BIOS. The overclocked BIOS will draw more power, and might require the 6-pin connector. The reference cards use only a single 8-pin, over clocked cards could use either an 8 and a 6 or two 8's. If the card you get has fixed clocks, higher than the reference clocks, you may not have the option of using the 8-pin connector alone.

    Hi,
    I block between two graphics cards for mac pro 5.1, especially in power consumption, since the RX590 consumes in the 250w and has 6pin and 8pin, while the rx580 sapphire nitro consumes 235w with always 6 and 8 pin, the novelty I found it comes from the Sapphire Radeon RX 590 Pulse, it consumes 235w and only has an 8pin connector, so I think it can work on the power of the pro mac even push deep, what do you think? thank you

  • @OscarCastillo1
    @OscarCastillo1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The dual 6 pin is said to be only 150W total (75W x 2). Yes it will work until you pull enough current from the motherboard under heavy load. Then some magic smoke.

      590 has higher clocks than 580, that's all. The clocks are high enough, though, that they go beyond what a factory OC 580 is capable of, that's why AMD gave it a new name, rather than sell them as an OC 580. They can get more money by calling it a 590.

    • @jbghumanjr

      was just delivered today. installed it / plugged it into my mac pro 4,1 flashed to a 5,1 system and all seems chill. used both 6 pin and 8 pin outlets running directly into my system. though I can't seem to find any way to use the Trixx software for a mac. All google searches lead to Windows download only. Now trying to find out how to change / turn off the lights on it without the sapphire trixx software. did you actually find a link to it for a mac? :-/

    • @jbghumanjr
      @jbghumanjr 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      found out it's stuck at a constant blue led no matter what. also ended up getting an external 1000w PSU that I plugged into only the GPU via a single 6 pin cable running into the back while still having it plugged into the 8 pin cable inside the mac. It's def. overkill in wattage but will last me the next couple GPU's as I upgrade. Had to do the "safety pin" trick in the PSU's motherboard cable to get it to power on without having it attached to my actual motherboard but otherwise now the GPU can perform full throttle without any fault to my system / or under perform with heavy 4k edits. Sorry for rambling on your page, just figured it'd help any Sapphire 590 humans who have a Mac Pro 5,1 who come here.

    I agree with Oscar - your numbers are wrong. A 6 pin delivers 75 watts max, PCIe slots deliver 75 watts - a Mac Pro can only deliver 75 x 3 or 225 watts from these sources. You're underpowering this card, so be aware that you might be flirting with disaster.

The Apple logo is only visible with on a card made specifically for Apple, usually says that on the box... however lately these companies are not making many Apple specific cards, but this has never been an issue to most of us who have Mac Pros... it is not hard to reset the boot by zapping the PRAM or booting from another external drive then in Sys. Prefs... to Startup.

    Sadly it will fail when you do the high GPU tasks due to insufficient power. You should do the pixlas mod on your power supply and then connect this extra power cable to this 6 pin. I can bet it is failing when you use is for GPU heavy load tasks.

      Thanks for your comment Lucas... if you do a bit of research - the PC World review mentioned - says it draws about 225 W. Sapphire themselves say 250, if you overclock it - maybe 300 Watts. if you actually watch the video you'll see the PCI slot has 75, each 6 pin dual cable has 75 for a total of 225! So no worries. I have had no problems, no noise and again if you actually watch this video I turned the Bios switch down to draw less power! But if you know something I don't? Please speak up! by the way the Mac Pro 5,1 has an amazing 980 Watts of power. I have 5 drives inside and a blue ray burner... and so far... smooooottthhh. www.macpartsonline.com/661-5449-apple-power-supply-980-watts-for-mac-pro-2012-2010-2009-a1289.html
