No need to unscrew the fan on a macpro5,1. The little white circle on the right side of it - if you press that, the fan slides to the left, moving that steel vertical bar and unlocking/releasing the GPU from it's holding.

nice video. I would keep the old card you never know when you are going to need it for the boot screen.

Nice helpful video, I just did the same exact upgrade. It took a while for the computer to boot up for the first time with the new card, but suddenly boom there it was. I like the music you choose as well. I'll watch your other videos. All good.

The reason you cant see the boot screen is that this video card is made for Windows. And for this reason it does not support UEFI.
You need a PC to flash the GPU card.
I also have a question. What happened to the older Cinema Display at the end of the video? Why dont you use that with the Mac Pro?

I have a problem, I installed the RX580 card in a 5.1 (with Catalina 10.15.7) and I have a green tint, how can that be - what can I do? How can I download and update the driver?

Hello, I have some issues with the same graphic card on Monterey (OpenCore Legacy Patcher Install). Can you please tell me if you used any specific Kext or file to make it work properly? Many thanks

I had issues with a metal supported GPU on OpenCore with Monterey, too.The solution I found was to use the original non-metal supported GPU to boot up the computer, then in OpenCore I clicked 'Revert Root Patches'. Then instead of restarting, I shut down. Then I connected the new GPU and booted (without boot screen). Once up and running, in OpenCore I clicked 'Start Root Patching' and then restarted. Worked for me.

Thanks for this video. I have a 2012 Mac Pro that I need to upgrade with a Metal-compatible graphics card soon since I can't upgrade the OS otherwise, which is making it ripe for confiscation by our IT folks. I'm considering the Radeon RX580 as well. It looks pretty straightforward to do.

Will this card run windows with boot camp?
I'd really like to upgrade my old workhorse or at least have a backup card.
