As a conductor myself i can tell you hes watching out for your safety. If something derails, even at that speed, you are going to be killed. Stay back and use your zoom.
He said "don't railfan so close to the tracks" I've I had that said to me in an Amtrak station by a Union Pacific MoW employee lol but we started talking and he said "are you that kid that railfans from the entire little rock sub" (my subdivision) and I said yes. We've been pretty good friends ever since lol
From a distance the approaching train crew can't tell whether you are on the tracks or not - you are in line with the edge of the loco as it approaches, and they were probably concerned.
i heard him say "dont railfan so close to the tracks !" ive heard a cp engineer say something like that to some kids who were standing WAY to close to the train .
He said don't rail fan so close to the tracks. Just FYI, as an Cp rail employee with MOW, we are required to be at least 20 feet from the track when a movement passes us, unless it is unsafe to do so (like were on a mountain cliff side) Those are our rules, so I'd suggest you take heed of them yourself, they are there for a reason.
LOL half of him was out the window. I honestly can't really understand what he said. But this video reminds me of 4 years ago when I was railfanning the CN Grimsby Sub. CN 330 passed by me at 100kmh with the conductors body literally half out the window waving to me with both arms, he screamed at me and to this day I still have no idea what he said. Interesting catch!
One time I accidentally stood a few inches from a CN train and they didn’t seem to mind. I have sense backed away about ten feet though. CN is pretty chill ngl
People have to realize that crewmen can't always assume a railfan is not just some random person looking to commit suicide or throw something underneath the train to see it crushed. There's no telling what the person's intentions are. Now that train hopping is becoming a viral trend, they have to deal with more than impatient people at crossings and rail combers. A derailment is not a freak occurrences. And if a person is standing near the railbed, there's no way they can get clear fast enough. Especially if the train was traveling a good speed.
Just curious, was this once a double track reduced to a single track? Would that be tresspassing? What is the distance required for normal safety? I live in Montreal and i have a neet place to trainspot with 4 tracks (track 1 & 4 sidings, 2 & 3 main) I sit on a concrete block beside track 1 witch is 8 feet from the tracks and i see every time the local police, CN police and sometimes train personnel and never asked me any questions on my presents. They just wave at me and sometimes blow the horn (except the local police) If that train employe is stressed of us trainspotting ang taking pictures of what we terribly love, he should find himself another job.
I caught this locomotive in 2021 without rebuilt . It was a old , burnt and dirty brown like many cp locomotives. I dont know if its rebuilt now though.
It sounded like that he said Don't Railfan so close to the Tracks. That is why I always try and keep my distance when Railfanning. But we have to understand as well how nervous these engineers can get and we can't blame em for feeling like that. So many have taken their own lives jumping infront of trains which has become a common thing and that makes it hard on the engineers who have to through all that trauma like I did when i saw a man cross paths into a coming vehicule and was strcuk and killed and it was not a pretty sight. That will always be something I'll never forget.
Don't rail fan so close to the tracks! Is what I heard. Also, I had a conversation with a CSX conductor a while back and he said as long as your off the ballast your fine. If your on or close to the ballast that's when they have a problem.
Interesting catch at 6:15 with that flat cars loaded with axles and wheel sets. By the way if you are 2m from the track you are on or near the line. At 3m you are lineside which is your position of safety, these UK railroad safety rules. Not sure what the Canadian rule books are but. Stay safe and put on an orange high visibilty jacket you will be more visible to the train crew and less likely to draw attention. Most train crews and railroad employees have an orange jacket, do the same and they might beleive you are one of their own.
Technically, you would be trespassing in the US. Not sure if or how different it is in Canada, but in the US the entire right-of-way is railroad property and if someone is having a bad day, they have legal standing to come after you. I've gotten heat from CSX cops for that because I don't regularly railfan, just snap pictures when the opportunity presents itself. Doesn't sound like he was mad though, just concerned that you were a little too close. JetMechMA pretty much summed it up.

This is why I do mostly stills now. You can get close, get your shot and then move out of the way. It is a nice view but you are lucky he didn't just call the railroad cops.
If something happens and that train derails you would get killed. It's a safety issue. He can't see all way at end of his tail either. So if you try to hop on you could get hurt.

I think he was right
Autoracks Are Tall And Your Right
Don't lean so far out the cab window!
Steven Michael and yet they say we're being unsafe
yep the conductor wants to fall out of the window!!! no he said dont railfan so close to the tracks
That's okay, he has a spare train to ride on the other track.
The conductor was actually quite polite, definitely not being a dick about it.
That guy can't help being a dick.
"Don't railfan so close to the tracks"
You are a bit close, but I love the video!
EDIT: I think this is my most liked comment...
Michigan Rail Productions don't film so close to the tracks*
Listen to it at 0.5 speed. I am pretty sure he says "railfan"
I heard put it back in the grass
That's not remotely close you would never get that down the track perspective if you stood further back you were in a great spot.
He said "don't railfan so close to the tracks" I've I had that said to me in an Amtrak station by a Union Pacific MoW employee lol but we started talking and he said "are you that kid that railfans from the entire little rock sub" (my subdivision) and I said yes. well he is right what he told you
Rip Plymouth, now it is just Chrysler and Dodge (with Jeep as a subsidiary of Dodge of course)
From a distance the approaching train crew can't tell whether you are on the tracks or not - you are in line with the edge of the loco as it approaches, and they were probably concerned.
Standing near the tracks the driver might think that it might be a attempt of suicide so just keep that in mind.
"Don't railfan so close to the tracks!"
he said, "hey buddy, I'm hungry! toss me some snacks!"
David N hahaha
i heard him say "dont railfan so close to the tracks !"
ive heard a cp engineer say something like that to some kids who were standing WAY to close to the train .
he said he wanted a quarter-pounder with cheese and large fries and drink Dr.Pepper PLEASE!
They totally should have a train drive-thru ... lol
Regards,
J
He said "Captain, I'm givin' ya all she's got!"
He said "Don't railfan so close to the tracks!"
"Don't stand so close to the tracks!" Are what his words were
That was a beautiful horn that loco had
He said, "If you stand to close to the tracks, Thomas The Tank Engine will be out to hunt you down!"
I think that he was just telling you not to railfan so close to the tracks.
He Said "don’t Railfan so close to the track"
He said: "MOVE BACK NOT SO CLOSE TO THE TRACKS!"
He said don't rail fan so close to the tracks.
Just FYI, as an Cp rail employee with MOW, we are required to be at least 20 feet from the track when a movement passes us, unless it is unsafe to do so (like were on a mountain cliff side)

Common sense rule so people dont get killed.
At least he said railfan...
"You shouldn't railfan so close to the tracks"
"DON'T GET CLOSE TO THE DAMN TRACKS!" is what I heard.
Looks like the same conductor that reported you at the crossing.
Alliance Rail Productions yeah I was gonna say!
"Woah man, don't stand so close to the tracks!!"
"Don't railfan so close to the tracks." Listen to it at .5 speed
I thought I saw Brave Dave on one of the grain cars....... LOL :-D
SgtRollo61 I saw him too, that could very well be his train he was on or its that American knock off of him
The Rocket Brother PNW the dork known as stobe-o-dorkus of hoboicus?
SgtRollo61 Brave Dave, haha what an idiot. It made me sad when he did not get caught
If it's on the first autorack it's not him if you keep pausing and playing it's not him, but it did look like him for a good second.
David Christensen cmon. Why did you watch then?! Let him do what he likes to do
All I heard was “Dont play around-“
Inside the cab they are insulated from the massive noise; he needed to yell a lot louder if I was going to hear him. lol
LOL half of him was out the window. I honestly can't really understand what he said. But this video reminds me of 4 years ago when I was railfanning the CN Grimsby Sub. He yelled
" Are you Crazy? Your close to the railroad tracks"
I heard him
He was telling you that dispatcher had just called police on you.
It’s the Karen of the Rails...
One time I accidentally stood a few inches from a CN train and they didn’t seem to mind. I have sense backed away about ten feet though. CN is pretty chill ngl
Some crews get nervous & you can't blame them; people use trains to off themselves on a regular basis. Cheers, J

sounds like no trespassing on the tracks i Had a similar situation in one of my videos
Actually, He said "Don't railfan so close to the tracks!"
4:13 Fair point. Thats a bit close, he just doesnt want ya hurt.
LOL nice catch Jay. sounded like the conductor said "Welcome to the Mactier sub, glad you could come". lol
Just curious, was this once a double track reduced to a single track?
Would that be tresspassing?
What is the distance required for normal safety?

nah he said something about playing on the tracks
Engineer cut him off with the horn lol. He was probably like "Sit down & shut up!"
I caught this locomotive in 2021 without rebuilt . It was a old , burnt and dirty brown like many cp locomotives. I dont know if its rebuilt now though.
9584 is in better condition than some other ac4400cw’s

Yeah its unfortunate that quite a few people use the train as a method to their own end.
4:13 he said: don't railfan so close to the tracks!
Sounded like "Don't railfan so close to the tracks!"
He probably said move away from the tracks
I'm a GEEK learning how to steer this train,WATCH OUT I might miss the curve!!.
He was clearly asking for directions to the nearest restroom.
UP, and BNSF drivers are better at socializing lol
" Throw me some snacks! "
He said don't play around so close to the tracks
You would think by now that radio equipment would be a lot more advanced than the garbled hit and miss
4:13 I didn't hear what he just said either.🤷♂️
"don't railfan so close to the tracks"
In Ashland VA I can be so close to the tracks I could high five an Amtrak
Whatever he said,it wasn't friendly. He was using a cadence in his tone when he spoke. Nice video my friend. Thanks for sharing!
Maybe the conductor was yelling "Please back away from the tracks", or "Don't stand that close to the tracks!"
Don't rail fan so close to the tracks! Is what I heard. Also, I had a conversation with a CSX conductor a while back and he said as long as your off the ballast your fine. If your on or close to the ballast that's when they have a problem.
What is the ballast
Erik Vince the stone/gravel/pebbles on and nearby the tracks.

Kinda crazy that 9584 is a survivor where most of the 9500s are now CWMs.
It sounded like he said don't railfan near the tracks.

He said: "Don't come any closer to the tracks!".
Safety Poetry,Made Me think of the line from Monty Pythons Life Of Brian " There's lumps of it out Back " from the dungeon scene.
What I think he said is "move slow Polk, get of the tracks" or move slow mo back off the tracks
he said do not railfan so close to the tracks

No, I don't think so. But they all work out of the same union shop & have seen the videos. lol
Thanks, J

"Don't stand quite so close to that track!" maybe?

I think he said "Don't railfan close to the tracks!"
"Don't Railfan to close to the tracks"
I think he said to stay off the Ballast.
"Don't stand that close to the tracks"
This is why I do mostly stills now. You can get close, get your shot and then move out of the way. It is a nice view but you are lucky he didn't just call the railroad cops.
Hopefully the CN cops caught up with them.
I guess I was standing to close to a train track and they just honked so much at me
All I heard is "Dont Stand there!"
They must have made Ypres siding a 30mph siding - it was 10mph when I worked there last.
Ypres is now just a storage track - this is the brand new double length Baxter siding. LOL @ the slow response. J
Looks like the know it all kid from the polar express got a job
Ha ha! J
You were nowhere near that close I would of been closer than that.
If something happens and that train derails you would get killed. It's a safety issue. He can't see all way at end of his tail either. So if you try to hop on you could get hurt.
I heard "Don't Railfan Next To The Tracks" Great Videon

What he said is don't stand so close to the track
He said Don't railfan so close to the tracks

The rule in US is that one should be twentyfive feet away from the track
Toss me some snacks railfan!
He said don't go around the tracks, stay off the tracks
I had an encounter with an UP conductor who called the police on me for taking pictures of the train and he was in them
