- Today, we take an apples to apples look at 4 different Citizen Promasters. We look at the NY-0040-09, NY-0098-84E Fugu, NY-0040-17 and the BN00151-09 all at once! The citizen promaster ny0040 was issued to the G.O.I which is the special operation force of the italian navy. Those watches had a reprinted dial with the marina militare logo on it, and since they tested them down to 500 meters they put that inscription on the dial too.
Great information for everyone. I had seen one years ago on auction and got beat out. Have not seen once since.
I think get the automatic Promaster.
I dont really believe the store bought watches are military grade. Their has to be a serious upgrade to be military quality but I still really like my ny0040 blue. That dial will take you on a trip sombitches
I recently bought a Promaster NY0085-86E automatic (coke version). This precise piece is actually my favourite watch in the collection. I have removed the horrible bracelet, fitted it with a nice rubber strap and i am now waiting for Long Island Watches to offer the matching Jubilee bracelet again.

what's the size difference between the NY-0040 and citizen promaster eco drive?
How do you work the crown when it's on your wrist?
@@sheepdog-kp9hb Like most of us, regardless of handedness, we set out watches before we put them on. I wear my watch on my right hand, 99% of crowns never dig into my wrist. And that is why I believe left handers have an advantage in that regard.
Long Island Watch just released a jubilee style and an oyster style bracelet for this Citizen Promaster NY0040. Solid endlinks, solid links and milled clasp! Finally a decent bracelet for these! 🙌

Be careful with those. I bought a Brac-70 for a fugu and it was shorter than the original bracelet and only had 3 micro adjustments on the clasp, so it was kind of the same fit for me as the original without the quality of the original. I also had problems with the clasp itself not being milled correctly and not closing very well at all. Before you take any stickers off the bracelet just make sure you check the functionality of it so you can return it if necessary. Good luck!

It takes some wear to get the clasp to function smoothly on the long Island bracelet
I own two Citizen eco drive watches. One of them is a titanium diver with orange dial and it's a limited edition. Very happy with both of them and quite accurate movement especially the diver one.
Eco drive is pretty cool, been around for decades now. Awesome!

Fugu has sapphire crystal. I myself own a black PVD version with sapphire which I love. Nonetheless, I think original looks little better than fugus. I wish they offer original with sapphire - that would be a must have.
I could only source a domed sapphire for the original, which I didn't want. 100% agree with you!
Citizen is my brand. I have a 5502, and an oxymilitary. Keep up these great reviews 👍
I had a 5502 years ago! I regretted selling that one. Was a cool handset! And those oxymilitary watches are super cool….and rare! Keeper!
I bought the NY0040-17L from Jomashop last year and it has been my most often worn watch. Taken many showers and been submerged in water a lot. Just a workhorse. Some of the dials show the 8203 but the still have a hacking 8204.
I wear my NY all the time too! Just took a full lume one to Mexico as my vacation watch last week. I love it!
Citizen offers a lot of very similar models, so it can be confusing.
I recently got a NY0140-80EE, which is almost identical with the watch you pick up at 3:33 . It is hand hackable and has sapphire chrystal. Beautiful blue sunburst dial. I am not satisfied with the rubber strap, though, so I have ordered the metal bracelet for it.
I bet that looks awesome in sunburst! The bracelet gets a bad wrap, but I have one on my vintage Citizen challenge diver and I love it
Yes Patric, you're right, It is a sapphire crystal on the Fugu model.
I got the bn0151 in blue yesterday. I absolutely love it.

One thing that always struck my while binge watching Promaster reviews is that virtually every US review includes lamenting over the eight o'clock crown whereas European reviewers literally never even mention it. It is a total non-issue where I live. Wondering if it's Americans somehow lacking left hand dexterity or the US's supposed obsession with convenience. What's the problem with a left hand crown on an automatic diver? It's unobtrusive, it's safe, it's comfortable, it's iconic.
I love it, but yeah it is a little strange for some of us. Unorthodox for me (and maybe some others), but I have a Sangin Atlas which is same, and purposefully positioned for right hand shooting

Pertaining to your comment about the crown placement on the citizen compared to say a seiko at the 4'oclock position, it is not a problem if one wears the watch correctly and not all up on the wrist. When I purchased my 1st Rolex and had the experience of the red carpet treatment at the boutique, the salesman (Ralph Kimsman, who has an amazing collection of watches) complimented me on my placement of the watch on my wrist. He explained that he had to show not only young men but also some middle-aged men on how and wear to wear a wrist watch correctly and comfortably. Mark from Long Island watch, and Urban Gentry spoke of placement a few years back.

Great point. Yeah, because of the wrist bone I do wear watches a little looser (personally). Maybe that’s why I am such a Seiko fan too. The 4 o’clock bezel on the diver’s really fit me well

Somehow I missed these when they came out, cool watches for sure. I wish the minute hand reached out a touch further on all of them. Short hands are common with citizen, often doesn't keep me from buying them though.
That's a great observation. I never noticed that about the minute hand!
Eco drive totally dependable. I have one that is 25 years old, and its still working.

A fun conversational video of these watches. Handling the watches close up at all angles allows familiarity for a good buying decision. The gloss black dial of the NY0040 with splashes of red is attractive. But it does look like a medieval castle. I expect to find a drawbridge somewhere on the watch. I bought a BN0200-56e to try out Eco-Drive titanium. There's not too many introductory ISO-6425 certified watches out there.

I am late to the party.
Recently bought the standard 42mm diameter with round hour indexes from Jomashop, a coke bezel. It has the 8204 module inside.
I live in Malaysia, funny thing is all the Citizen Promaster model being sold here are only the Fugu versions: broader hands and indexes, 44mm (believe also some 42mm) diameter.
Differences are whether those are special Asia limited edition or not. There are few Asia limited editions came out at different times. However all looks similar with the few repetitive bezel colors or dial colors.
Generally, the Asia limited fugu edition is 44mm diameter, has sapphire crystals and with stainless steel bracelets. The oxygen tank box might have gold color on the switch.
Standard Fugu only comes with rubber straps and mineral crystals, at least those models I checked.
Saw 1 limited run with PVD coated full titanium including bracelet. Price is same as the Citizen Promaster Fujitsubo. But 8203 module.
I prefer the standard version which is thinner, smaller, lighter for my 6.3’ wrist size. Also almost all the Fugu, limited or not has 8023 module without hacking second hands.

I have one and it does have hacking and they do have a sapphire crystal.

SS, the new ones (NY0100) are the super titanium. They look very nice
Where can I get the bracelet that's on the black version. **NOT THE ONE WITH THE BLUE BEZEL.
I bought the blue one that's on the blue rubber strap and I'd like to purchase a bracelet for it and I really like the bracelet on the black dial black bezel one.
I think you can find them aftermarket. They are cool with the diver extension. Have you tried eBay?

Thank You So Very Much, for the Video 🙂 I have a question Please, I have a new automatic Promaster NY00140-80E Cal. 8204 and I need instructions for setting the time , Date, and Day of the week!! The only related video, I've found is in another language (not in English)!! I'm hoping that somehow I can find instructions for setting this unused Promaster!! I'll be grateful to who ever that maybe able to help me😃
Um...I think you will find any video to set the date, time, etc will work. Just need to make sure you use your left hand. AND DONT STRIP the crown!! So important!

I don’t understand why they put the lume pip on the counter balance of the seconds hand. Makes no sense and ruins the watch. Should be the other way around for timing in seconds

I'm 43 years old and wearing watches since 10 and never, NEVER, had a single problem with the crown on my wrist. My man, let me tell you this: if your crown hurt your wrist, you're just wearing your watches wrong. Anyway, the crown at 5 in eco drive Citizen will eventually avoid this issue with people wearing watch like you. So, both, automatic and eco drive are comfortable in the same way, period.
I am 52 years old and wearing a watch longer than you. And if you don’t have a large enough wrist bone to stop the slide to the bottom of your wrist then the crown will be intrusive. Period.
@@threehandhunter Almost 8 inch wrist, have not a large wrist bone and never had this issue. As i said, you just wearing your watches too loose. Deal with that.
