ASMR Restoration of a broken japanese diving watch - Citizen Promaster automatic NY0040

  • This time I´m restoring a Citizen Promaster automatic.
It´s a japanese diving watch, waterproof up to 200 metres and powered by the citizen 8203A caliber.
The watch is in a bad condition: The stainless-steel-case is damaged, the glass is not original, glass and bezel are scratched and the movement is not running. As I try to wind-up the movement it winds-down immediately. Seems like an issue on the escapement-wheel.
A tooth and the pivot of the escapement-wheel is broken, i need to replace it. As well as the glass, the glass-gasket, the click-spring, the movement spacer and the bezel. After everything is cleaned, sanded and polished I can restore the brushed surface of the case and re-assemble the movement with some fresh oil. After that, this watch is in an awesome beat (+4 seconds per day) again.
I hope you liked this restoration, if so, like, comment and subscribe ;)

I know it would never be realistic to put this type of work into a watch you can get for $220, (you could just put the whole watch on the flux capacitor) but it is gratifying to see a real tool watch being brought back to life through unbelievable craftsmanship. I think the video affects me so deeply because it's about renewing something that few would see as worth attempting to renew and having a great victory in the renewal.

I am wearing the exact same watch and I now have even more respect for it. I’ll have it on my wrist till the second I die, after which my sons will have to fight for it! And on that happy note, thank you for a fascinating presentation! And I’m not really even Asperger’s, but sufficiently so to have personally adjusted my same Citizen to run at 0.4 seconds slow - in 24hrs - for the past six years! So hacking ain’t a problem; I just bring it to a stop once a month to set accurately 🤪🇬🇧 PS: that’s four times more accurate than a Rolex Submariner, and even more so for the Omega Seamaster! And a damn sighr better than COSC chronometer criteria!

I admit to had suffer a little bit at the beginning, thinking that mine could have the same faith. I simply love this watch! if anyone's wondering, the model is NY0040, and it actually exists in many varieties, as for example the NY0085. Definitely a good purchase if you ask me. Sturdy, cheap and well-performing movement fir its price.. An alternative in the past was the old Seiko SKX013 and the SKX007, but since they stopped the production the price doubled making it less appealing.
PS Interesting fact about the watch used in the video: it was actually given to the navy soldiers in Italy years ago, without the name "Citizen" but "Marina Militare" written in its place and no red painting on the dial, only white.

    • @alessioseminara3254
      @alessioseminara3254 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Navy soldiers? No they were way way more than that, they were the FIRST navy frog-men, Italian navy create this group back in 1920 to sunk the British royal navy with a a group of immense brave soldier like Teseo Tesei and others who perform legendary war actions destroying many warships without even let the enemy understand where the attack came from with never seen amphibious skills in a war. And today after they helped usa to build their navy seals and trained many sas squad and many others special op group from all nations knocking at their door, they are still the best with 1/100 of the money and equipment that their similar colleagues in usa or gb are granted. Their name is Comsubin, GOI Incursori della Marina militare Italiana:"E fluctibus irruit in hostem".

      Thanks 😉
This is just a hobby. I also need to work on my main job and the process of a watch restoration takes it's time. So unfortunately there is no way to help me out producing videos more often 😕

I have a Citizen Promaster Automatic with silicon bands and yellow watch backing. Bought it from money I got for My confirmation in 2004. Still Use it to this Day. I dive with it, swim with it, Use it for everything. Still works as the Day I got it. I know it is Not a fancy watch, But it was/is the only "real" watch I have ever owned.

i agree doctors get fortunes for drug dealing and here is a true artist and probably earns a pittance at a watch maker/repairer but the intricacy is mind boggling. I am in awe, the only other person who has gave me so much pleasure is Lionel Messi.

I always wanted to be a watchsmith but circumstances wouldn't allow it. These individuals are master Mechanic / Machinist.. quick story. When I was 8 years old I once took a Timex mechanical apart to see if I could put it back together. Well I don't have to tell you how that turned out.🤔😟🥺😢

probably 60s, from the look of it. give or take 10 years. i have a similar one, non-functional unfortunately since the on-off switch is broken. if you are lucky you can find those for about 100 euros on Ebay. Sometimes they are sold for considerably more than that though.

With all the batter and beat marks on the bezel, was this massive watch perchance used as a substitute for a shield during a LARP battle???
I noticed that the Day wheel had both English and German day names such as Montag, Dienstag, Mittwoch, Donnerstag, Freitag, Samstag and Sontag in a Japanese movement. A showing of multi-cultural cross over. Though it would be real neat if it also had Kanji (Japanese) characters for the days as well. >_
