  • In this review we take a first look at the brand new Brooks Ghost Max! This high stack daily trainer from Brooks Running will most likely be the best running shoe 2024 for everyday runners because of the versatility of the running shoe and price! It will appeal to a wide range of runners who are looking for a running shoe that can do it all in 2024!

To help anyone who may think this feels anything like any iteration of a regular Ghost, it absolutely does not. This shoe is miles better than, not only an ordinary Ghost, but also the Glycerin 20. I agree with a previous commenter - DNA Loft is not a good midsole. But this is much, much better. That, combined with a much lower drop (6 mm vs. 12 in a regular Ghost), superb inherent stability, good impact protection, and a very good upper put this behind only the Auroras in Brooks' line-up, in my opinion. Hyperion Max would be 3rd, due only to lack of versatility. Hope this may help.

Agreed! I don’t like the feel of the new DNA Loft V3 in the Glycerin 20. The DNA Loft V2 is much more forgiving and provides more cushion in my view. I’ll skip the Glycerin this year and stick with the Ghost Max!

ive been using the hoka clifton 6 and then 8 for the past few years and was about to buy the clifton 9. spoke with a brooks rep and he mentioned the ghost max, so i bought them, ive since been on a few 5km runs. my initial thoughts were they felt lighter, but not as spongy or soft as the hokas. i prefer the soft ride of the hoka. however, i managed to trim almost a 1min off my 5km wearing the ghost max. im not sure whether its a mental barrier i pushed past wearing the new shoes, but i felt less fatigued as my runs enters the 3rd and 4th km and im able to maintain my cadence better.so far, my recovery has been good, i havent put any long runs in yet. overall, im happy with them. i was disappointed that they werent as soft as the hokas, but the times have been great, so i cant complain

I ran my first marathon in the Ghost 12, and it was a capable shoe. I did notice as I started to improve as a runner, that the 12mm drop started to make itself known and resulted in increased mid/forefoot wear. I only retired them at 750km. There's a reason they have such a huge market share for the average runner.

In my opinion, I think they cannibalized the Glycerin as well. I'm rotating two pairs of clearance price glycerin twenties for easy runs right now and I wish they were a bit more rockered, I'm willing to bet I'm not the only one. Brooks feels like a football team in the middle of a rebuild and when they come out the other side they're probably going to be pretty great.

I am sure they will sell a ton of these thanks to Brooks marketing power and vast distribution. They give good margins to stores to sell their shoes so that is why, most everyone is sold a Brooks shoe.
They might have cannibalized Glycerin which was supposed to be the max stack shoe of Brooks. It got pretty confusing with this one. Is Glycerin Max on the way with even higher stack, low drop configuration? And why Brooks keeps using their inferior foam in Ghost lineup (DNA Loft v2) vs hydrogen infused DNA Loft v3 in Glycerin 20.
Also, Brooks shoes have high step in comfort due to insole but when insole flattens the energy return becomes questionable. I would like to see when people reach 100 miles on these.
For me, still the best Brooks shoe is Hyperion Max.

Hi Chris, great review as always, thanks. I bumped in to the Saucony rep in my local sports shop the other day and he was great to talk to about the pro 4 and the speed 4 which he had with him. I really like the look of them both. The thing is he said that if I run a half marathon speed of 1:50 then the "speed 4" is for me and if I run faster than 1:15 then the "Pro 4" is the one.
Are we getting to the stage where we can choose race shoes based on the speed we run at. I know you have said that the Nike super shoes and the Saucony elite are too fast for you so I think it may be an added marker to look at when looking for a shoe for the daily runner.

If the price is acceptable (we will see about that) and the colours are better than this ugly red, this might be a good choice. But companies are coming up with better and better shoes each year, so pricing will become more and more important.

    • @Kaisersozze
      @Kaisersozze 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

It's a personal preference. 10mm will push you a bit more forward as you're running which I find isn't best suited for slow running for me. Generally it just feels less natural to me, as an over exaggerated example I would compare it to walking in flats vs walking in high heels. Granted I've also been running exclusively in a low drop 4-5mm shoe for over a year so my body is just use to a low drop. If you then switch to a high drop shoe then it might take some time getting use to, and you might experience some pain such as front knee pain. Perhphas its not a bad idea to have a shoe rotation with different drops so you're muscles don't get use to one certain type. Some articles say that high drop shoes can increase chances of knee pain and hip pain while zero drop shoes will increase chances of pain in the lower leg and foot such a calf strain. 6mm drop is not extreme in either direction. There are some people who don't care about drop and of course those that prefer high drop shoes. @@Loc1792

@@Loc1792it facilitates better running technique, more midfoot/forefoot strike. Heel striking can be a problem for heavier runners like myself as it might cause knee pain. Midfoot/forefoot striking will however put more strain on the foot and achilles. So I transitioned very slowly and carefully from a Brooks Ghost with 12 mm drop to shoes with 8, 6 or even 5 mm drop while working on my technique until I could run a 10k with midfoot/forefoot striking.

The naming is dumb. They should have just had this be the latest glycerin iteration. The ghost name should have been left alone. It’s already a successful shoe. Or create a new name all together.

don't like them using the same name for a COMPLETELY different shoe. This is NOT a Ghost.

Brooks… Eva foam sucks period. I use to use them a decade ago. Buy a triumph 20…. Come on Fordy. Brooks needs to take a long hard long at itself and stop making boring shoes.

I’ve always had bother with brooks around the collar, after a few month the collar always seems to collapse and I don’t find them very comfortable, just my opinion so I’m waiting for the novablast 4’s 👍🏼

I'm done with brooks and EVA foams in general. Ran so many miles in the Brooks 14 I got a Femoral stress fracture. Out for months. Peba only for me from now on.
