    I've moved from split shorts to half tights for two of the reasons you mentioned in this video. First, half tights provide a better storage solutions for gels, phones, keys, etc. than any other option. I love my Salomon vest for the weekend long run, but it's overkill for a road marathon when I don't need to carry water. Second, with half tights I never have to worry about thigh chafing. Janji's half tights are the best option I've found so far in terms of storage with the double pockets on each side and the pass-through pocket in the back. Their double layer construction provides adequate modesty without the need for a liner. The Tracksmith Reggie may be the most comfortable half tight but it lacks storage capacity. Nike's two half tight options come with Nike's unfortunate liner. Lululemon also makes half tights but they have just one single side pocket that's shallower than what Janji offers. Some of the less expensive items I've come across marketed as half tights are really just single layer compression shorts with a pocket built in.

      no half tights automatically means chaffing for me, even for day to day wear. i don't even have a single brief as underwear, all half tights

      I've moved to my half tights much more this year for anything over 2 hours because of these same reasons. Mostly it's nice because I simply don't get any rubbing or skin irritation with them! The storage is also nice.
      Thanks for the comments!!

    I agree with your choice of wearing the shorts for all the arguments you mentioned. Light, cool, stylish, barely there, practicaly and also cheaper. When you can't stand compression, tights are hateful. I personally find them particularly bad looking too, lol.
    The issue with split shorts is you can't cut out the uncomfortable inner brief and run in them without the liner. Most of the time it's necessary to get a little longer shorts to keep some decency once you've cut out the restricting liner. Unless you run in the most remote, desert places lmao

      I do think I'll definitely bring the tights with me to Boston this April since the race does not allow hydration packs I may have to slightly change up how I go about my typical Marathon nutrition and one of the big things these tights have over shorts are the pockets! I'm going to have to have my phone with me for the race and keeping the gels and my phone in the pockets may be the way to go.

      @@KyleKranz This reasoning is valid only if you compare to your current shorts that don't have pockets, indeed.
      However, you can either wear a running belt in addition to your spli shorts, or get running shorts that have an integrated running belt. Salomon, Kiprun/Evadict, T8 Run, amon others, sell such things and as you like shorts, that's probably what you would prefer. They gives you plenty of pockets to put your phone, gels, keys and water. Evadict/Kiprun are also extremely affordable and well proven for the price.

      @@hrrrrr2084 I've seen some of those shirts, bit prefer split shorts and those usually are longer, yes? I've thought of my SPI belt...

      @@KyleKranz Yes, they are often a bit longer than split shorts, becaus eyou have to fit all the pockets on the belt haha. They are still shorter than your half tights, though. Split shorts + good running belt is in my opinion your best solution to keep the comfort and speed of short shorts
      By the way, there are probably split shorts with many pockets out there, just need to search to find them

    Split shorts for me. I don't notice my phone in the vest and I run with it on everything but the treadmill.

    Thoughts on the half tights for super long runs? I’ve got a few split shorts I use for 50-100 mile ultras + squirrel’s nut butter.

    • @KyleKranz
      @KyleKranz  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh I would wear them for any run of a half marathon and longer! Even short runs, such as when I was traveling last month and wanted to bring my phone with, I wore my half tights with side pockets to carry my phone.

    I wonder if short tights would be nice in the rain. I noticed at the end of my rainy marathon that my shorts were soaked and were quite a bit heavier. It wasn’t even raining that much

    • @KyleKranz
      @KyleKranz  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I wonder on the flip side if the half tights may be worse because they may have a bit more material to soak up the rain... but it could be less noticeable since they're skintight.

    • @Lucas-gm3bv
      @Lucas-gm3bv ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KyleKranz it’s really a question of materials, imho. You don’t want the material to absorb water, and you _really_ don’t want it to drag when wet. Unless you’re the type that cuts out the liner, you need to think about that, too. (I hate liners!)
      Tights are more forgiving in that if they’re truly skin-tight, you don’t really feel anything different because their function is to be a synthetic layer over your skin so it can enhance the skin’s breathing. In my non-technical parlance.
      Unless it’s a horribly hot and humid day, and the rain’s torrential, but there’s not a pair of shorts in the world that can fix that. You’re basically swimming at that point, so slap on a speedo!
      But yeah, they’re wonderful in the rain. 🏃🏻

    Did you feel like you needed to wear a liner or underwear with the janji half tights? Thanks

      Not at all, they've grown to be my best go to pair, maybe that I've ever owned!

    Is full and half tight good looking to wear when go for shopping and hangout too if you wear sport outfit? If i going to run that day, I orefer to wear the running outfit from the afternoon through to the evening run so I wont need to change again

      I think they're great to wear casually while out and about as well :-)

    • @Lucas-gm3bv
      @Lucas-gm3bv ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah they’re fine as casual wear. Depending what you’re doing and where you’re at, you’ll be the most stylish guy in the building. I do it all the time. My friends think I’m trying to normalise the look but it already is normal, I’m just saving water and cutting down on detergent use.
      Ya gotta think with your head. 🙌🏼

  • @Lucas-gm3bv
    @Lucas-gm3bv ปีที่แล้ว

    I think it’s a body shape issue, too. I _prefer_ split shorts to anything when I’m doing runs on our own property (I like’em short, so for me it’s a modesty issue and an I-don’t-wanna-get-arrested issue); out of modesty, I stick to the tights if I’m out in public. All the way to the knee, but that’s more of a comfort thing than a modesty thing.
    But as far as body shape, you’ve got those quads!! And you’re only 5’?”?? You could wear the shortest shorts in the world and get away with it!
    I’m long and lean (well, tall and lean, I guess). Same thing. 6’3”, unless I’m still growing.
    You got the quads, but I’ve got my stride. ✌🏼

      Oh I found some from tracksmith that I only wear around the house and they've been relegated too pretty much bedtime wear because they're so darn short, which is too bad because they were so darn expensive too!

    • @davidofoo

      I have big quads for my height, 5' 8", and the split shorts I've tried have ridden up my inner thighs. I've tried the 4" Nike Aeroswift shorts and the not-split short Tracksmith 3" session speed shorts.

      I like the boa split shorts quite a bit, have you tried those?
