I just ran a 30km training run in the Brooks Ghost Max and they are great. They never felt heavy, but they could be a little softer. I think you could run at a lot of different speeds in this shoe.
Oh yes, I have both of these. Making popcorn for your video 🍿 I was an early adopter of On (2014?) their shoes were unrunable. I’m happy they finally realized putting tiny air pockets in the outsole feel like running on pebbles.
Unrunnable was my impression back when they started. Luckily for me I didn't run in my first On shoe until last year, so I was immediately pleased with how good they feel. On has clearly come a long way!
@@its_Matt_B_ the early pairs I bought became walking shoes. I ran 50 feet in them and realized they weren’t running shoes despite being marketed as such 🤣. Since we’re on this topic, I find it HILARIOUS now that Hoka have become a lifestyle shoe and I have non-running friends wearing them with no knowledge of their history.

Brooks knows what they're doing when it comes to comfort! You won't go wrong with the Ghost Max, although the Max 2 drops this year so you may be able to get a good deal on v1.
Thats actually a very nice video. We get the Ghost Max in our store in february, and wanted to take also the eclipse in, but then we studied the reviews about each shoe and tested them and the eclipse got some abysmal, horrible reviews, especially for its price. And since ON is already the brand we get - by far - the most complain and returns, the decision was clear. Personally I highly hiiiighly dislike the Ghost series, they are boring, they are outdated, the loft v2 is almost as old and performs as good/bad as nikes stonage cushlon foam. The drop is fricking a skyscraper and for me it's just a good shoe for people who really want to start first time running or want a very comfy allday shoe. But the Ghost Max, we tested in preorder and thats a fine pair of shoes! The Ghost Max is how the classic Ghost should have ve been since at least 2 years. The drop is fine, the ride is smoth, the first Ghost I would seriously use. I'm asking myself why Ghost dont copy from other brands, like Hoka, Asics, Mizuno etc. and just combine 2 foams a softer and a firmer one to keep the stability while making the ride more enjoyable and liveable. Esepcially the Loftv2 is such a super boring foam in todays technology.
I actually love the Cloudeclipse, but I realize I'm just a single person and you have to consider your customers as a whole. I 100% agree about the Ghost being a bit boring and Brooks could do away with it now they have the Ghost Max, which is comparatively fantastic! I saw the Ghost Max 2 will be getting Loft v3.
@@its_Matt_B_ huh there were a lot of spelling mistakes in my comment, sorry. Not my native tongue. I haven’t tried the Cloudeclipse, but I am a big fan of the Ghost Max. I took it on an ultra distance run straight out of the box last month and the ride was smooth the entire time. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to the “standard” Ghost
A huge run right out of the box is high praise for the Max! It's funny you say that about not going back to the regular; I have thought the same thing. If we've both thought it, it means a lot of others have too! I will review the Ghost 16 if they get sent to me, but I won't pick them up myself.
I’m doing a lot of research on these. I currently have Brooks Ghost 15s and was going to get another pair, but my husband suggested I try out On Clouds. I have gained a lot of interest in On Cloud after watching all the videos gassing them up. I’m thinking they’ll be a good work shoe for me. I work on concrete floors 10 hours a day.
On shoes sure do get a lot of hype. I'm not sure if I would choose the CloudEclipse for standing all day; I think they would be too soft. I know soft sounds good for standing/walking, but a slightly firmer shoe works better for me in that situation.
I wonder? If I get to 150 miles I'll let you know. I very well may get there as the influx of new shoes has slowed/stalled, so I may be filling the miles with shoes I've already reviewed.
I always enjoy your videos. I like the Brooks rocker in the Hyperion Max but I've gone away from these massive shoes. I'm curious what the DNA Flash v2 will feel like though; it sounds like a totally new foam.
Thanks for letting me know you enjoy the vids! It's always encouraging to hear! I'm also eager to try the Flash v2! When you say you're getting away from massive shoes, what are you moving towards? Is there a stack limit you've set for yourself?
@@its_Matt_B_It's more a weight limit than stack. As I get up around 10 oz. for the sample size, it affects my cadence and running mechanics so I can't do what is natural for me. Something like the Deviate Nitro 2 is around 9 oz. and 37 mm stack but it doesn't feel big on foot, even compared to the Hyperion Max, which is over an oz. lighter. So, somewhere between 9 & 10 oz. is my limit although bulk may affect how I perceive it as well. I was wondering if you feel that, too. Andy (FOD Runner) has often discussed how much the weight goes up in the larger sizes.
Ahh, I see! Yes, the heavier shoes can definitely change how I run too, but the geometry plays a big role also. The Adidas Prime X2 Strung is 13.9oz in my size, which is VERY heavy, but the shoe flows and actually feels great (and fast). @@kuriosites
He said, "booty" 😂 j/k. I'm considering the Ghost as a possible replacement for the More v4 when it's retired. Can't believe the On is 3/4-lb. Thx, Matt.
🤣@booty! I didn't run in the More v4 but the Ghost Max is going to be quite a bit firmer. What about 3/4 lb is surprising? They're both about the same weight in my size. Is it that the On looks heavier/lighter?
@@its_Matt_B_ I'm hoping that the Ghost is lighter than the More v4. My size 10.5 is a brick at 11.2 oz, & I can't go more than 8 mi on them at recovery pace.
Thanks for making this comparison, I recently bought Cloudeclipse but sadly it wasn’t available in that cheerful red/flame colorway in my country, so I ended up purchased the white one. Love the shoes. Still can’t find Brooks Ghost Max in any story in my country, but I’m considering buying it once it’s available.
Matt, do you know if you’ll be getting the new Hyperion lineup to try? I think the hyperion max 2 will be the first Brooks shoe I’ll ever try 😂 (it looks SICK tbh) And so funny you mention the Brooks ghost max being not-so-soft. I felt one yesterday in a shop and I was literally thinking “wow that feels firm”
Unfortunately I never know what I'll be getting until I get it. I hope to get the Hyperion Max 2 because I liked v1 so much! Even though the Ghost Max isn't as soft as some may think it should be, it's by far the best Ghost Brooks has made! I like a soft ride but there is such a thing as too soft!
