  • Brooks GHOST MAX Review - First Impressions - welcome back to another video and today I am giving you my first impressions review of the brooks ghost max. I tested out the Brooks Ghost 15 earlier in the year and this is definitely an improvement for me... more cushioning, a better stack height, a good LSR running shoe.
    Do you plan on picking the brooks ghost max up?

    long easy runs are the sweet spot for me with these shoes. I'm loving mine for that specific purpose. Spot on Andy!!

    Andy's description reminds me of my own experience with the Nimbus 25. Very cushy, comfortable but just no response. I sold them and bought the Invincible 2, love those. Ghost Max, very tempting for me once there is some discounts. 🏃🏻🏃🏻‍♀️

    I find it great a a cruiser. But i have ran a sub 20 minute parkrun in these, i just didn't plan it and thought let's see what i can do in these. I like them and they are used most days by me lately

    I think these sort of comfortable and heavy easy day shoes get a bad rep these days with all the lightness going on.. but remember people, you should run 80% of your runs easy, why not get a plush and durable shoe that might be a tad heavier

      Brodie Sharpe went through the science on his Run Smarter podcast and of course very generally lighter = faster, but heavier = more support = fewer injuries!!! So yeah, clearly we need a good balance!!

      I am doing an 80/20 training plan for the half marathon and most of the 80 is at z2 which is just below threshold and very little of the training is at z1 which is the ez recovery runs

    I'm glad Brooks is making some lower drop shoes but I'm leaning toward lighter and firmer shoes lately. I hope you will give some updates on the Kinvara 14 after 100-200 miles. I'm curious how that will wear with so much exposed foam.

    For me the Max is an Ultra / Long distance Sunday run..... shoe I'm an 8uk...... but the 8 1/2 fitted better (with compression socks on) as it's February..... Might be better in Summer as an 8UK??

    Heavier, slow runner and I totally agree. Love these. The only Brooks I've been able to run in as all other gave me shin pain and knee niggles.

  • @bev9708
    @bev9708 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I've been looking forward to this shoe just about more than any other this year, and I'm thrilled Brooks sent you a pair Andy, though I figured you would probably find it a bit unresponsive, I figured this is yet another one perhaps more for us slower runners? The Ghost like the Glycerin❤also is famously extremely long wearing too, so 🤞🏻🤞🏻this one as well!! One thing please Andy, there's a lot of difference between slow cruisers when it comes to our long long runs, as some just start to sap the energy once we start pushing beyond the 20-25k or so (Nimbus 25 for example) and I learned from you to often choose a slightly firmer shoe for those runs ... I imagine you will take it for a nice long run for us and let us know?? ENJOY!!🙋🏻‍♀

      Yeah I’ll take these on a longer run at some point to see how they fair! But you’re right, I do prefer firmer shoes if I’m going super long or fast long runs 👍

    Very interesting shoe. How do you compare it to the Cloudeclipse? Or Triumph 21? 🎉🎉🎉

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Very very similar to the cloudeclipse, both shoes super comfy, but not responsive so easy days only! The triumph has a bit more pop to it so a bit more versatile

    How does this compare to the Endorphin Shift? Looking at this as a long run replacement over the shift.

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The shift is firmer for sure,, this is much softer… so although they’re similar plushness in the upper, the midsoles are opposite

  • @TimGrose
    @TimGrose 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Umm EddBud seemed full of praise for this one but your verdict of just a plodder for easy days is hardly as convincing but more as I imagined. I am little puzzled by using the Ghost name and then radically changing the drop from 12mm to 6mm. Are they really intending Ghost 15 users see this an "upgrade" as you surely don't need both because, as you said, the Ghost 15 isn't good for much more than easy runs either - well for me. How is the fit for width on the Max as I note that unlike the Ghost 15 they don't do a narrow version and I found the narrow Ghost 15 to be not that narrow but acceptable but with 4 width options in that they really do cater for everybody. I think the Max has the Wide & Extra Wide so sounds like going to be one for most runners. From what I think I have gathered in the past if you prefer a lighter, more racy shoe than you could use the Hyperion Max for any sort of run?

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah so in my honest opinion, as I mentioned this one works for me really nicely due to the 6mm drop, much better, but it’s not a responsive shoe by any means, it’s just super cushioned and comfy. I do think a normal 12mm drop ghost user would like this as I think the rocker at the front still makes you feel like you roll through nicely and have that “forward lean” that a 12mm drop would… but it is a minimal rocket.
      For me, anything longer and faster it’s always the hyperion max, something lighter and firmer… I’m fine with super soft shoes for easy days but anything else and I prefer firmer shoes

    What would you recommend as a max cushion shoe that's got a little bit of go in the midsole?

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Although the cumulus 25 isn’t quite max cushioned… it feels it and that’s one of my go tos at the moment, they handle moderate miles well
