    No wonder why people start their own businesses. Who needs to be treated like a child? If you're a serious worker, dedicated, give it your all, and stay to the end, etc. How dare they, really!

    I was injured at work and ended up with a permanent disability. My disability impacts my attendance and performance at work. After a couple of attempts by HR and management trying to threaten me with termination, I brought this to the attention of my work comp- attorney. Well, my attorney put them on notice that I was protected under the law and any attempt to fire me will result in an expensive lawsuit that will result in my reinstatement with cash penalties (my attorney cited case law in her letter). After review by the legal dept., my employer figured out they could not touch me. Now, my manager occasionally asks me if I am OK with my work load.

      Congratulations! You were proactive and did something I wish more workers would do-get their attorney involved in addressing clearly unfair work situations. I am glad it worked out for you. Thank you for sharing.

    It doesn't matter what the employee signs or doesn't sign the write-up, if the company wants to terminate you they will find any means to terminate you. They will create events and be dishonest.

      @Over50tv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, if an employer wants you out there is not much you can do about it. That is why it is extremely important that older workers make themselves invulnerable to the employer's whims and take charge of their career by learning a new high-income skill or starting a side hustle.

    My last write up was 🐂💩. I didn't give them a chance for more. After lining up a new job, I gave notice, and began packing. Three days after giving notice, they let me go. "Releasing you from the obligation..." they said. That told me I had done the right thing in leaving!

    At 55 I just tell my manager I respect his opinion, but If this is all that would get me fired I would have done it a long time ago. I know the headache he to hire someone new at my company, the process takes 6 months to a year. And I’m in a financial position that I truly don’t care if I would get let go. It’s been a good career, but the business environment has changed so dramatically, it’s not a fine place any longer.

      The business environment has changed. It's not anything close to what it was when I started out.

    always refuse to sign. When pressed just ask they put RTS..refuse to sign. I worked in a union shop and was brought in for a discussion of "the issues I'm having and creating"...nothing in the contract about that. The manager violated the contract from the time I walked in the door to the time I left the office. Shop steward was useless. I repeatedly asked the shop steward during the meeting if this is a violation of the contract to which he said yes. Didn't do anything to stop the harassment. Figured out it isn't worth paying $1000 a year for union representation that doesn't represent me or enforce a contract so I left.

      Employees appear to have a bit more leverage because of the current labor shortage. But, the union rep needs to be in your corner.

      @@cordfortina9073 very true. The shop steward is an elected position so not much can be done when there’s a bad one. Asked the business agent for help. When the phone didn’t ring I knew it was him. Non existent representation means non existent dues, so decided to move on.

    When management starts asking, at what point do you plan on retirement, is this a sign, or am I paranoid? I'm only 61!

    • @Over50tv
      @Over50tv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think you are being paranoid. They certainly wouldn't be asking that of someone younger. I'd ask them why they are asking.

      Be very careful telling people when you expect to retire, especially if it is more than six months away.

    Typical HR person. HR is not there to protect the employee. HR is there to protect the company.
    Asking this guy anything along these lines is like the old adage of asking the barber if you need a haircut.
    Get a good lawyer before you need one and have them in your back pocket for when something like this occurs.
    In addition, always flat out refuse to sign anything until your lawyer has gone over it and explained it to you.
    I learned nothing of use from this video other than reaffirmation of my usual policy of not trusting HR any further than I can throw them.

    • @Over50tv
      @Over50tv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think we can all agree HR isn't there to protect the employees. And, yes those folks are there to protect the company. Any worker who puts their faith in HR probably isn't making a prudent decision. But, I think Joric offers a perspective that is well thought out and honest, not what I'd expect from a typical HR person. I find his views very refreshing. Watch some of his other videos and I think you will agree.

      Write-ups are often a weak way of dealing with a contrived problem. When done by a younger manager against an older-worker these actions are often demotivating, anger inducing, humiliating and unnecessary. Thanks for watching my video and thanks for the comment.
