    I won't lie... I went into age of resistance with some low expectations... I don't think I have ever seen more passion and love put into a film production, ESPECIALLY with it being a tv production. You can just tell people put their hearts into this and it almost felt like they enjoyed doing so... Hollywood? Take notes. You need people with a vision, not people there for a pay check

      Same thinking why now try telling beginning and middle sad news show got dropped not enough viewers because we knew ending story due to film from 80’s 2nd it never got finished and Netflix says it’s not as much of lack of viewers as much lockdown and Covid killed prequel. I say it stunk prequel this decedent of Jim Hanson is not nearly as good of story teller as he was.

    It was cancelled due to supposed “financial issues.” Listen, I understand the business world, yes, the international outreach wasn’t as expansive as they’d hoped. But those are very weak reasons to permanently cancel such an astounding Emmy Award Winning show. Netflix is high in debt, however, they are not bankrupt. Though it costs a lot of money to make this, Netflix should simply stop making movies based off of bloody wattpad stories and focus more on high-quality content such as TDC: AoR!

    • @ulfberht4431
      @ulfberht4431 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      If you consider financial issues as a “very weak reason” in an age where Capitalism rules the roost, then you’ve lost the plot or are seriously misguided.
      That’s like saying “soldiers going to war to protect their allies from an even worse regime is a weak excuse to go to war!” What other stronger reason do you need?

    • @honoriswithin
      @honoriswithin ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@ulfberht4431 in today's political climate those points DON'T apply. CNN for example, ratings are so bad and particularly "woke" streaming shows tank sooo bad but....they STILL air aweful, unwatched content and continue those shows! In my opinion the reason it was canceled is because it harbored the ideals that have inspired humanity through out the ages rather than cram the mindless agendas of today's anti-hero age.

    • @peggedyourdad9560
      @peggedyourdad9560 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@honoriswithin Oh yeah, it's a great show but you can also see the very thinly veiled political undertones whose content many people in powerful positions would not like. It also had a surprisingly diverse cast even if the main characters weren't human and were played by puppets, so it's good on the "woke" front too, so there wasn't an issue there either.

    This show had so much heart, quality and writing that really put to shame all other nostalgia reboots, even those I like such as Blade Runner 2049 and Ash vs Evil Dead (another excellent show that should've gotten another season). But let's look at the bright side: at least it's a puppet show, it's not live action. This means that it can pick up where it left whenever it can, like Samurai Jack did, the only thing they'd had to do is getting new voiceactors.

    Four years later and I'm still crushed that this was cancelled. Jim Henson's fantasy films had a profound impact on my imagination as a child. If I wasn't dreaming of escaping to the Labyrinth in the Goblin City, then it was absolutely that amazing desolate world of Dark Crystal that made me dream of what was once there.
    I would do anything to see season 2. If not that, then another story in that world. These worlds had so much to them and I just feel very happy when there's something new, even if it's a comic or a little bit of art. It says that all of those amazing notes are still well loved enough to keep inspiring. Fan works are lovely, but... There's just something special when official things come out.

    they couldnt allow a show about revolution to so successfully inspire hope in working class people, due to the execs being capitalists. The dark crystal age of resistance allows itself to be heavy handed so younger audience can follow the revolutionary premise, and the comparisons can too easily be drawn between the fantasy world and our real life class struggles.

    The original dark crystal and the labirynth were huge parts of my childhood, they are the reasons I love filmmaking and hopefully, I can get a job in the film industry one day as a cinematographer or work my way up as a film writer after my degree, as those films really sparked my imagination and care for the art of film, and this show age of resistance I teared up just watching the first ep, cause it was so damn awesome to see this level of craft in film once again.
    its a shame there wont be a second season. I would actually love a direct sequel to the original with the same level of care that went into this show, seeing what came of the world Thra all these years later, but who knows, Im just glad we got this series and it shows their is still light in the industry for real craetivity and passion in projects.

    I loved Netflix for realizing the prequel. This is art that will stay longer than anything like Game of Thrones or House of Cards. Only LotR or Harry Potter might play in the same league. They should view it as a privilege to finance this, bringing all those artists together. This is so much more than just collecting/investing money, like Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk do. Your last sentence here is exactly what I was feeling throughout watching the series. This type of enormous effort to create such a specific type of series could only be done by the exact people that made it. There's no other group of creators that could (and WOULD) put this much time, money, and tireless effort into what is really the most incredible puppet show ever conceived. It NEEDED the Hensons, Brian Froud, those veteran puppeteers like Kevin Clash, and all of the other masterminds for it to work. I don't see this happening again with any other group of creative people for a very very long time. Even if it isn't continued, we have this artwork forever now.

    It truly is heartbreaking, as stated in a previous comment, that this was cancelled. I have yet to see it (take note) but I just watched the movie again for the 1st time in decades and it definitely rekindled my interest. It is past ridiculous, shortsighted even, that they made the investment to make this show - sets, puppets, writers etc yet they didn't even give it a chance. I see it like this, if each episode is 45 minutes and there are ten then once you adjust for opening sequence (if there is one), recaps typical of a TV series & credits then just considering run time it's at least 3 extra movies of content. The 1982 movie was a sleeper but once it caught on it became a right of passage for kids running on over 30 years. Here is my point, it could have turned out, been done to/mistreated and tastelessly exploited like Disney has done with Star Wars. So much of Star Wars mystique has been ruined forever unless Disney sold the franchise to actual artists and they just scrapped the Disney trilogy like it never even happened.

    You're correct on pretty much everything, but I've never seen any CGI that looks as good as a puppet or model. Neither one looks like it's a real thing, but the puppets and models at least exist in reality. Until they perfect photo realistic CGI it will never look nearly as good.

    • @SamsChannelOfficial

      Thing is, I'm not saying CGI would have looked as good, but it would only have needed to look good enough for kids to buy into it. A typical producer looks at that sorta lackluster response as saleable, which is why it's so shocking they still went all in on the retro puppetry.

    I'll have to confess. When I saw the ending of Episode 2 with the skeksis getting a cage pressed into his
    skull and an insect crawling into: immediately followed by (a cut to black) realistic gouging out of his eye
    I swore that Age of Resistance was intended for adults, so I was pretty shocked when I learned it was for
    kids. I was thinking of the fictional Candle Cove 'Creepy Pasta' and how scary that was for kids in
    the 70's but sitting back wondering how much did did trauma this caus kids in 2019?!
    For this...this was worse. It was great but like Wings of Fire's books (Netlfilx cancelled that too)
    I question why it was ever geared towards kids/family's in the first place.

      @@SamsChannelOfficial I’m not sure how they marketed the series, but I think they they should have market it to dungeons and dragons players and lord of the rings fans. They would have loved this series. There are many good movies that becomes forgotten and underrated because who ever marketed it only did it half hearted, it doesn’t even have to be that they did it to the wrong people, just did to little of it. Like the iron giant

    It's almost like movies and TV used to be very difficult art the required a lot more creativity and work and now it's mostly garbage sludge that has been spray painted with computer effects to look like a Krabby Patty. You ain't foolin nobody Carl!

    First heard of the movie back from ready player one and maybe before that. Better Call Saul featured it and got me really wanting to check it out. Watched the entire movie and series. A season 2 would be definitely cool, but I'm just glad a series of it was made. I was able to appreciate the movie but the series had that backbone to it and did good with relatable/likeable characters. There's still a lot of potential for the franchise and if it doesn't go any further, it's nice for the audience to be able to imagine what happened between the series and movie.

    I know I'm late but I couldn't help but admire and respect the effort it had to take to produce this show, it's so easy to just say screw it and use a computer. Once I realize these characters are all puppets I couldn't help but respect every second of each scene.

  • @TheRabidRabbit1
    @TheRabidRabbit1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have to say I can see why they went with the puppets and practical effects. CGI on something with such short deadlines means quality of the visuals will drop off. case in point look at the dreamworks movies vs the dreamworks tv cartoons. Black Panther final fight scene was laughed at but it serves as a good warning of what happens when you have an incredibly tight deadline.

  • @fireflyfiadh
    @fireflyfiadh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yea, but that's why practical effects is so fucking amazing. Its a true artform

  • @chrislaws4785
    @chrislaws4785 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Shows like age of resistance SHOULD be made nowadays. The art of puppeteering and using practical effects is a dying one and NEEDS to be used whenever possible, many of THE GREATEST movies and special effects were done in this manner and the use of computers in EVERYTHING has begun to become stale and outdate by it's very use. I mean I would MUCH rather see a movie with mediocre practical effects then one with shitty CGI. (I'm looking at you Justice League Superman) lol.

    I wonder how many adults tuned in to watch as opposed to teens and children. My sister had watched it on Netflix before I knew it existed, but I was a big fan of the original movie. As opposed, my sister was oblivious to many of the muppet movies, and I started her last year with an xmas watch of Muppets Christmas Carol. Henson was a master at what he created...

  • @angellohector

  • @ejpokeventures

    Tbh this series shows more hard work and passion into making a TV series so unique and wonderful. This is why LOTR was 10 times more popular than the Hobbit films because they spent those extra man hours into creating a whole new world (costumes/mechanical elements and so much more). The hobbit didn't do as well because of all the heavy reliance of CGI within the films which took away the authenticity of bringing to life middle earth.
    There are so many CGI heavy films that Netflix bring out and flop instantly whereas this was the cinematic series that fantasy fans didn't realise they needed. I have a much bigger appreciation for the original film now and all the hard work they put into it and actually love it more for it.
    Heartbreaking we won't have the conclusion and the final linkage between this series and the movie but maybe if we're lucky someone might take up the torch one day. Cause I'll be ready for when that happens. 🤞💗

      Maybe the solution to the prequel problem is that they always feel the need to show the puzzle pieces perfectly aligning with the original installments.
      It's almost more bittersweet that S1 ends on a high while our imaginations envisage the horrors we know are to come.

  • @tyasbank

    It's about the passion man! I love that you get that this series is good, but it's good because of it's passion. And yeah, it got cancelled because of it. But you can't just CGI shit all the time, we know and feel when it's CGI. Take for example The Thing 1 and The Thing 2. Puppetry is amazing because it's real, it allows our senses to truly absorb it. With CGI you always see the uncanny valley and what is wrong.
