What a weird freaking movie this is. And plenty sinful. Enjoy!

All the Skeksis look similar..? Dude... thats Skeksist.
And seriously, who can't tell the difference between them? They are all VERY distinctive. We have the Chaimberlain (The whimpering worm), The General (Black armor plates), The Scientist (Bionic eye), The Scrollkeeper (Multiple sets of glasses), The Gourmand (Fat), The Ritual Master ("Holy Robes"), The Socialite (Prissy looking) - really, none of these characters can be confused for any of the others.

A lot of his sins are some of Jim Henson's own complaints. He said that's the world and story wasn't as fully fleshed out as he wanted it. That's why the Netflix show and the comics are being/were made. To honor that wish.
Indeed, the netflix series, although netflix is iffy with matters fo series. Is actually an excellent watch, the worldbuilding is so fleshed out and explained carefully. I actually can't wait for a season 2 or remake of the movie as i have more theories i'd like answered that came up when watching the last episode.

I was put off by that at first, too - it felt like they altered the backstory by more than a little, what with Aughra having entrusting the crystal to the Skeksis and their apparently being a thing *before* draining the crystal, while the movie showed it more as the destruction of the crystal is what caused their split from the Mystics.
@@TheFrugalVideoGamer Yeah, and Aughra trusted the Skeksis, meaning they were already split at that point. The mystics were therefore also a thing. Unless the Skeksis was just what Aughra/Narrator called the combined forms as well (UrSkek we learn later). I do love the development of the backstory a lot more and I don't mind those changes, tbh. The multiple gelfling races, politics... I just wonder how the method of draining essence went from shocking the crystal to just exposing it through a crack. Did it end up becoming so hungry that it no longer needed to be angered with cattle prods?
meme lord the Netflix series was incredible. I hope they move forwards with Jen and Kira’s journey now as a longer remake of the 82’ movie. 🙏🏼

Well, the "Trial By Stone"is a symbolic affair referencing the cracking of the Crystal. The winner is the one who breaks off the biggest piece(which the Garthim Master/new Emperor does by breaking the whole top half off.)
The Skeksis don't kill each other, most likely because there are so few(confirmed by the show).
The "land was green and good"where the Skeksis castle was, not across the whole planet.
The Garthim that attack the Podling village are a different group and not directly looking for Jen. Then when they try to grab him, the Chamberlain stops them.
The Mystics are "chill"because all the will and forcefulness went into their Skeksis halfs. Thats one of the reasons the Mystics didn't just kill themselves to end the Skeksis power.

Frank Oz is the puppet performer and the original voice actor. Billie Whitelaw voiced Aughra after the negative test screenings forced Jim Henson to do a lot of changes to the movie.
@@AgsmaJustAgsma Actually, all he had to do was record new voices. The company wanted to edit the film to show more of the Skekses and less of the Mystics. So Henson invested everything in his own movie.

First saw it when I was 5 and I always loved it. How soft are kids these days?
Nevermind that it was never a kids movie...
See, now, this movie didn't scare me, but freaking "Darby O'Gill and the Little People" did, or at least the Banshee. Of course the first time I watched it there also happened to be a damn thunderstorm going on that night, so it definitely added to the atmosphere...
The scene of the podling getting its essence taken was so shocking to me when I was a kid, I cried. I remember being terrified that Kira was going to die.
I was 8 years old.
Badlaama Urukehu I think you saw it when you were too young. I saw it when I was 8 and I think at that age kids develop a much better understanding of mortality and empathy. To be able to fully be imagine what it would be like to see death in front of you, or to watch someone else’s suffering. It’s not a question of being “soft”, it’s a question of fully understanding what is happening.
Can confirm this, as well, but back then, a lot of "kids" films back then were scary as hell. And I loved them. The emperor choking to death, then falling to pieces was horrifying to me. The movie came out when I was 1, but I don't remember what age I was when I first saw it. Also, I know it didn't affect Jeremy, but DAMMIT, that one rabbit creature they rode on that died just killed me inside, even today. Its cries are so heartbreaking and soul crushing! ;_;

Though Frank did do the dialogue on set, so he should probably still get a tip of the hat for setting the pacing & phrasing

They actually did use Frank Oz when they originally shot it but dubbed someone else later.
They released the film without Frank Oz's voice. The only place you can hear him as Aughra is in "Special features"..and only one scene.

I just watched this today for the first time. It was goddamn awesome, a masterpiece. I really wish I'd watched it when I was a kid, if I'd seen this when I was 10 or so it probably would have been my favourite film of all time.
That said, how the hell was this rated G? There were some scenes that were truly, genuinely horrifying, and the Skeksis are seriously amongst the most terrifying creatures ever put on film. They're nearly at the same level as Giger's alien from, well, Alien.
I got to see it in theatres at 5yrs old awesome yeah, but nightmares for a week or so, the crystal draining the podling freaked me out big time!

I remember watching this movie as a kid. My dad's girlfriend's mother had it. And because it wasn't rated R, 6 year old Vinny was allowed to watch it. I still have weird dreams about it sometimes 20 years later

@@davidtaylor142 As much as I love the Princess Bride, there are more than enough sinful things in that movie to make a video. There are a bunch of pieces of the set showing like obvious crash mats and matte paintings, for example. Things that are legitimate effects failures if you watch it back.

It kind of seems like they don't often sin comedies. I suspect it's might be hard to sin content made to make you laugh. Although lately it doesn't seem like Jeremy enjoys movies at all. Hope he's doing ok.

There was SO much fucking lore behind this movie that never once gets mentioned IN it. Jim Henson gets all the wins for superior world-building and this MOVIE gets all the wins for having actually aged EXTREMELY well. A lot better than Labyrinth, to be honest, but because of how alien this universe is to begin with, the effects never actually look all that dated, at least not in my opinion. I loved this movie as a kid, and I still love it as an adult. The Garthim genuinely terrified me, though, and for the life of me, I will NEVER understand how the death of the Skeksis emperor was pulled off with practical effects. I MUST KNOW!

Frank Oz performed Aughra, but was not the voice. The video seemed like there was some confusion with that.
The reason the Garthim fell apart so quickly after the Crystal was healed is because the Garthim are made of two separate creatures and they rely on the Crystal to stay alive. The Skeksis however still have to meet with their Mystic counterparts.

I don't know why, but that film still makes me feel sick. I think it's how detailed a lot of the nightmare-inducing horrific imagery is.

3:40... Aughra isn't voiced by Frank Oz, just puppeteered by him. Frank did do the temp voice on-set (just as he'd done as Ma Otter in Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas), but it was all replaced in the final sound mix by Billie Whitelaw.
