AOR is the best, most magical thing I’ve watched in a long time. I’m really grateful for the Hensons and everyone that put their love, time, and energy into this series. I’m very excited for season 2 and hopefully many more to come!

The 90 min making of The Dark Crystal show that pops up after you finish the series was super cool and inspiring to watch, this is almost like a tease of it.
Wow, so Netflix had a lot to do with making Age of Resistance with puppets happen. Respect to them!
Meanwhile, Disney has let the Muppets die, cancels an interesting show idea and will limit them to that "unscripted skits" show on Disney+... cheap fuckers.
Yea it's amazing seeing them willingly go the extra mile and not being greedy fucks like most other corporations.

I’m a huge fan of the original Dark Crystal and they did a phenomenal job on the series, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it.

Indeed but there has to be a glimmer of hope at the end as a nod to what eventually happens in the film. In fact, judging by the final scene in the series I don't think the events of the series take place as long before the film as I'd first thought. I'm now thinking decades rather than centuries.

Oh, I LOVE these kinds of featurettes. I know for some they kind of ruin the magic, but for me, at the very least, these 'making of' featurettes make the process so much more impressive, so much more of a magical thing, because Human ingenuity is magical in and of its own right! Thank you, Team Henson and @Netflix for bringing Thra back to the screen.

I know I want season 2 so bad, Netflix has a nasty habit of cancelling shows. Not to mention, The Dark Crystal isn't the most popular franchise so I wouldn't be surprised if Netflix did the stupid thing and ends up not continuing it.
This might sound stupid but isn't there a way we could start an online petition with Netflix to encourage them to start a season 2. I feel the fan base is growing. We should do this.
@@mr_80s_man Well we don't if they will be a season 2 or not yet still to early to tell since it came out a few weeks ago. For all we they could be working on it right now and I'm pretty sure I heard they already got the script written. Also petitions don't do crap, that's why I'm afraid of them cancelling it because if they did, don't expect a petition to continue it. Perfect example is look at the OA, fans have been kicking and screaming for months now but no word on that ever returning..

I was thoroughly happy with what Netflix did with the series! I watched all episodes within a day and that says a lot. I couldn't put it down. it was wonderful
I am going to cancel my Netflix sunscription if there is no season 2. But seriously i think i have seen the movie in my childhood, it sparks a memory, this series is a masterpiece and i love the combination of puppetry and cgi.

Every day I regret that we only got one season of this masterpiece.
I remember seeing the dark crystal when it was released in movie theaters and was in wonder with the movie (dating myself). Watched the first episode and wow!!! Sat there in awe, was brought back to my childhood. I'm glad Netflex was loyal to the legacy and had the gumption to make the series. Also glad Jim Henson legacy lives on for the next generation of kids and adults.
This series is a masterpiece. I watched the original movie in the theater when I was a child and this series went above and beyond my expectations. It deserves all the support it can get.

I was about 5 or 6 when I watched Dark Crystal and it scared the hell out of me.
I was 10 going on 11 when I first watched that movie on DVD around Christmastime.
What about Labyrinth?
I first watched Labyrinth when I was 11 in the summertime.
8:43 - this is the first time Netflix ever showed Taron on the DC set...he talked about visiting the set but they never showed it till now!!!

Wow the facial expressions of the puppeteer at 9:04 That kind of passion is so amazing. You can see how damn involved he is in the character and the scene. Awesome stuff

The Age of Resistance is the first time I've seen a pre-quel done right! The love and care for the original movie truly shone through.
This and Cobra Kai and Blade Runner 2049 are examples when reviving an 80s property right

The Dark Crystal Age of Resistance is one of the BEST pieces of film made ever, and Netflix will always have a place in my heart for helping make it happen. I cannot believe that in this day and age of cutting corners and making things as cheaply as possible, Netflix actually cared enough about the artistry of Jim Henson's work and paid to have it made like it should be made. Thank you, thank you thank you for doing this, like - I don't care for companies usually but TDCAOR is just... Amazing. Timeless. It really means something, and we should all appreciate it for the art that it is.
Netflix, you need to play all of the old muppet movies.
Disney owns most of the Muppet movies so they're going to end up on Disney+, with the exception of Muppets Take Manhattan and Muppets From Space which were produced by Sony Pictures.

Almost 18 and i just watched for the first time the dark crystal a few months ago, watched aor and i dearly hope they continue aor in a season 2 and possibly further, growing up on so many fantasy elements in my life such as gaming, shows, and movies i am very happy to be getting into the world of thra and these characters
Congrats Netflix and the Jim Henson Workshop. This is by far the best series on your service and an amazing new take on a world I've loved forever. Just completed round 2 of the series and wow did everyone deliver in spades. I'm hoping for a season 2 but glad that this exists in it's own right. Thank you to everyone involved. You made something supremely special.

Them honoring the source material by using puppets - and the fact that they take it so seriously, not a single thing was half assed - made the show an absolute delight. It's perfect. I hope that the future seasons get the same amount of love and care.
Simon Pegg absolutely kills it as the chamberlain and so does Nathalie Emmanuel as Deet!
Also the score is so good! Deserves a mention.
well the orginal movie from what i understand and remeber was pretty intense but i think came at an era where even animated movies were pretty darn intense at times . also side note i do think its a shame puppets are not used as much as i think they should be.
Well practical effects made a comeback with this, Child's Play 2019, Shape of Water, Blade Runner 2049 and more
@@Johnlindsey289 yeah I am noticing that too which I think is great and cgi seems be used where it can improve a scene rather they rely on it. Like mad max for example.

Masterpiece
I'm so happy that they made Age of Resistance because it brought the Jim Henson magic back and that's something I've loved for years and still do! Netflix, if you see this, keep it up!
At first I thought the Skeksis puppets were just top half suits over the puppeteers to allow for freedom of movement, had no idea the were entirely blue screened. I still have to double check when I watch SkekMal, keep thinking it's someone with a suit on.
They are puppets. It looks like they simply filmed the different at different times and used CGI to help them do different things.
In most scenes, the Skesis are human-sized puppets with a puppeteer inside of them watching things from a monitor, but there are also other puppeteers helping, sometimes with specific moves or eye movement.
i've watched the series more times then i can count, and i love the characters, scenery, and the lore that goes with them! i hope i'm not the only one wanting a season 2.
Disappointed that they didn't use clips of the Heretic's puppets show. I mean, puppets putting a puppet show, how meta can you get?

@@Johnlindsey289 Well if I was writing the story, Jennifer Connelly would now be the Goblin Queen, as the story would follow Sarah's daughter dealing with something tragic in the real world like Sarah dying of cancer.
As a kid I really wanted to work at The Creature Shop...why? The Dark Crystal blew me away, still does and I'm almost 50. I REALLY need to watch this series.

I've always been a huge muppet fan but I've never seen The Dark Crystal. Some of my students are using this film as an inspiration for their art work and having just watched this video, as part of my research, I am anxious to finally see it!

This series was absolutely spellbinding. The wait for the second season will be worth it to be able to return to Thra anew.
I'm so happy that this has happened. I remember being a kid in the 90's having watched the movie. The world and it's characters had me curious and honestly the Skeksis had the most interest in me. They were scary but I wanted to learn more about them. With this series I'm getting this chance to learn more about the world before the events of the movie and I'm so happy. Each episode is beautiful and pulls me in easily. I hope that Jim Henson Company are able to continue doing things like this.
