    The new Godox X2T transmitter / trigger / transceiver is the latest radio trigger compatible with the Godox X-Series which includes the TT600, TT685, V860ii, V850ii, TT350, V350, AD200, AD360ii, AD600, AD600 Pro, AD400 Pro, along with the QT, QS, SK, and DP series strobes. It will also work with the upcoming Godox V1 round head flash and Godox AD200 Pro.
    It's expected that there will be 6 versions of this trigger, X2T-C (Canon), X2T-N (Nikon), X2T-S (Sony), X2T-F (Fuji), X2T-O (Olympus / Panasonic), X2T-P (Pentax).
    The Godox X2T includes a lot of feature updates over it's predecessor, the X1T. It has 5 independent group selection buttons which double as mode change. It has a redesigned and relocated adjustment wheel. 3 buttons have been moved from the right of the screen to the left of the screen. The AF assist beam has changed to a lamp instead of a grid. Bluetooth has been added so no longer do you need the Godox A1 to communicate between flashes and the Godox app. Scan for best channel has also been added.
    Godox X1T Description
    The Godox x1 is the ultimate radio transmitter for Nikon DSLRs that speaks to Godox AD360ii, Godox Li-on and Godox and Nikon Radio Remote without missing a beat and connects to all strobes with sync ports. The incredible range of these compact and lightweight units as well as their integrated functions and features make them the first choice of professional photographers. The proprietary TTL and HSS enabled 2.4GHz x1 Radio Remote System radio triggers transmits atop a Nikon body with the essential TTL pass-through and laser AF assist and works with the complete family of Godox X Series Speedlights, Monolights and Strobe lights with x1 TTL radio transceiver built right in.
    All the x1 enabled family communicate seamlessly: the lithium powered Godox Li-on Nikon, Canon and Sony TTL speedlights, the Godox M alkaline energized speedlight, the fantastic AD360ii 360 Nikon and Canon TTL powerhouse, and the masterful 600ws AD600 monolights. Older Godox flashes can be fired and controlled off camera while being attached to the x1 Radio Remote Receiver FPRRx1RN to grace remote link to earlier models.
    The x1t provides a full proprietary GR Group style interface allowing up to 5 Groups to be individually set to either TTL, Manual, or Off and most importantly, TTL and Manual Groups can be conveniently mixed together as needed.The battery powered units provide TTL, HSS (High Speed Sync) and even a HSS pre-sync timing adjustment for precision synchronization. PC cord sync input andoutput ports are provided for external device remote sync without automation. x1r receivers are compatible with Nikon CLS system speedlights like the Nikon SB-910, SB-900, or SB700. Controlling the remote strobes is straightforward, with a large clear LCD panel interface aside 3 separate buttons relating to channel, groups and modes, while a thumb wheel provides fast scroll adjustment for the selected function. A simple switch located on the side of the transmitter allows the laser pattern Focus Assist Light to be switched on and off when needed.

    This is great! I was actually just talking to another photographer about Godox needing something like this as we're building her first OCF kit. You my friend are amazing with these gear discussions, keep it up!

    A good straight up review, my personal biggest problem with the X1 was the On/Off button. It stuck out the side of the body and was extremely light to operate, which meant it got accidently bumped/turned on all the time draining the battery’s (same for the X1R receivers). This would not be a problem in studio. But we all use Godox lights because they a battery powered, and we can throw them in a bucket and go anywhere. Although you didn’t touch on this, from what I could see in the video it looks like this is fixed. The switches appear to be recessed now which will be awesome for me and every one else who works on site. Obviously the twist lock base and the other bit's are great as well, great to see a company actually putting some actual improvements into a new model instead of minor facelifts, good work Godox and good review Robert.

    I've been using the X2Tc for several months and I've been quite pleased with it. The Bluetooth to cell phone connection and App had me a bit confused when trying to get it working, but I figured out what I was doing wrong and it is working fine now. It does let me adjust all 5 groups and trigger them from the cell phone, leaving the final cell phone settings on the X2T so it is ready for shooting, but the only advantage that I see with it is not having to remove the X2T from the camera to do this. The App does not yet support my cell phone for remote triggering of the camera yet, but I doubt that I would ever use that feature anyway. I do mostly studio work.

    I'm glad to have found this...thanks Rob. The majority of time I shoot my X1 in APP mode because I set my flash power with my meter (L-858). It works great and I wouldn't consider an upgrade except for those few times that I want to change power from the trigger. The X1 is cumbersome and when I'm shooting, cumbersome isn't going to cut it. Like many others, I sometimes shoot with a dumb trigger for my older receivers and non-wireless speedlights and the hotshoe works really well for that. When I first saw the X2, I thought it wouldn't bring much improvement. Your review has changed my mind and the X2 is now on the top of the list with the X-Pro just below it.

    I'm one of those users who needs the additional hotshoe that is featured on the X1T and omitted on the X Pro trigger so I'm glad Godox saw fit to update this. I originally was happy with the X1T but " upgraded " to the X Pro trigger on release. There is no doubt that the X Pro is ergonomically way better but for me there is a caveat. I use my Sekonic lightmeter which has the in built pocket wizard transceiver and one of the complaints many make is how they wish Godox products were pocket wizard compatible. In fact they are, well sort of. With the X1T trigger I simply mount a pocket wizard to it's hotshoe and mount the trigger to my cameras hotshoe. The X1T trigger features a bi directional sync socket which in the " secret function menu " can be configured as an input or output. Not sure what the default was but I configured mine as an input. Plug the pocket Wizards sync socket to the X1T's sync socket. Now, whenever you use your pocket wizard enabled Sekonic light meter it will fire the flashes 😊 Now obviously to make changes to individual flashes/strobes it means you have to walk over to the camera mounted X1T and make adjustments to the settings, which is a pain in the ass, however this is where the X Pro trigger comes in. I have my X Pro trigger with me and can use that in situ to make any alterations to any of my lights without having to do so via the X1T. Technically you can use the X Pro to do exactly the same thing but you end up with the pocket wizard dangling off the trigger unless you are able to velco it onto the trigger itself. The odd shape of the X Pro makes doing that difficult, far better to have the pocket wizard positioned in the hotshoe of the X1T in my opinion. Even in situations where I'm not using my lightmeter ( run and gun flash scenarios ) I still prefer the smaller form factor of the X1T in my hotshoe. I'll be getting this version 2 as soon as it's availible, hopefully the LCD screen is more scratch resistant because the main downer for me regards the X1T is how easily the LCD gets scuffed up 😉

    Photographers and youtubers like me was really missing the hotshoe because it allows us to record our camera screen with the atomos ninjas and it is highly needed for us photographers who bring content and real behind the scenes photoshoots so the audience an see exactly what’s going on in our camera. I’m super excited they brought back the hotshoe. Don’t forget that

    AF ASSIST WORKS SO GOOD ON THE A7R3!!! I just received my X2T-s and tested it with my Sony A7R3. I already had the X1T-s, and after updating it's software and being able to have the AF assist working (but not with as good results as with a dslr camera), I was curious to compare it with the new X2T-s. And guys I'm so happy, the X2T-s AF assist is much better, the focus is almost as good as with my nikon dslr. And that was such a problem for me, as I for shooting weddings, you simply need an AF assist for the dancing moment, no way to focus properly in very dim light - party lights with the A7R3 without it, and yes I tried with a 1.4 lens and live view display off. But so you know it, on the final version of the X2T-s, the AF assist is a grid pattern, not a strong beam as on your video.

      Fabien n I bought the X2t-s, it looks like the hot shoe doesn’t have TTL pass through. How do you use your flash? Do you use it in manual mode? I think it’s not convenient to use it in manual mode during a event/wedding.

    there is a good reason for the controls being on the right, that is, mostly this style is a studio setup, so therefore the camera is on a studio stand, or a tripod, so BOTH hands are free, when not using a light meter or moving the subject or props around, esp if digital 35 mm/ MF workflow is considered,where the camera is tethered to a laptop, so one hand is on the computer and it's keyboard/editting console (the board with all the dials buttons to edit the shot with, similar to a drawing waccom tablet); the other adjusts the flash power with the trigger controls.

    Hi! Thanks for the very good video.
    Just bought the X2T today and I should receive it tomorrow.
    I think the issue of the battery bars depends on the batteries themselves.
    Alkaline batteries have a nominal voltage of 1.5V (when brand new out of the box they are 1.6V) while rechargeable batteries are rated at 1.2V (while having 1.45V when fully charged).
    The problem is the rechargeable batteries voltage goes down gradually after the charge, sitting at about 1.35V, which is already a low voltage if compared to the alkalines batteries.
    Usually these radio transmitters devices (such as the X2T) are rated for 3.0V (two AA 1.5V), that's could be the main issue.

    People need this because e.g. event photographers need to use on camera flash all the time, and sometimes adding extra remote flashes to light the environment or create special effects. But before V1, EVERY on camera flash as master sucks in controlling the remote flashes, extremely slow to operate. That's why I still love the Cactus V6 so much :) , other brands should have "copied" such design years ago :P

    • @robhallphoto
      @robhallphoto  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you the the (pre-V1) Godox speedlights are not as fast as they could be, but I disagree that they aren't fast enough for event work. Let's remember that 4-5 years ago people were walking to and pulling down their light stands just to change a power output of a remote flash. I've had no problem controlling my OCF on the fly with both V860ii's and V350s.

    • @IndigoEyePhotography

      I got a V6 II and RF 60x a little over a month ago. I agree that Cactus had superior ergonomics, but getting any flash to work on the V6 II's hotshoe has been an absolute nightmare for me (on my Canon, the hotshoe never worked when X-TTL was installed).
      If I had learned about the X2T trigger earlier, I would have gone for Godox instead with its wider variety of flash options.

    • @charlesludwig9173
      @charlesludwig9173 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I shoot real estate interiors. I want to shoot with my on camera flash, as well as an off camera flash placed at opposite end of room so I need a trigger to fire the off camera flash and the on camera flash, as well as a receiver for the off camera flash. In fact it's essential since I am shooting hand held and therefore can not hold a flash in hand while shooting or use a tripod which is too inconvenient. I also need TTL to so I'm going with Pocket Wizard MiniTT 1 and FlexTT5 which will work with my SB-700 speedlights and Nikon cameras.

    I can see how that hot shoe can come in handy. I have quite a few speedlites with the radiopopper triggers, it would be easier to trigger them with the hot-shoe rather than the pc sync port. The port can work but then I have to figure out how to mount the trigger, probably having to add a cheeseplate. I'd like to see a demo of the bluetooth app.

  • @tonyscott3757

    I just tested the X2T for Canon. My camera is a 1D mark IV. I had a Canon 600EX-RT in the X2T hotshoe which is in group A and a Godox AD200Pro in group B. I set the power of both groups manually. The X2T multiple times changed to power of both groups to 1/64 + 0.4. One time I had group A turned off and only the power of group B was forced to 1/64+0.4 - the power setting of group A was unchanged when I turned this group on again. After moving the 600EX-RT to a X1RC my power settings remained as I had set them. This may have been chance but I had the 600EX-RT on the X1RC quite a bit longer than directly on the X2T. This could indicate that the issue is the X2T is getting some of the communication between the camera and the 600EX-RT wrong. I saw the same behavior using a Canon 580EX II. I also tested with an YN600EX-RT in place of the Canon flash and had the same experience (the X2T changed the power to 1/64+0.4 once during this brief testing). The X1RC managed to lock up the YN600EX-RT once. Firmware version of the X2T is 1.2 which is the newest available on the Godox download page.

    Thanks for another excellent review Robert. I rely on you to update me on Godox developments and your impartial criticism of the products. It seems that Godox listen to your constructive comments and so maybe you could mention the apparent fragility of the hot shoe on the X Pro S. I am new to Sony (having used Nikon previously) and the XPro-S base plate looks ultra-breakable when compared to that of the XPro-N, with its metal plate. I feel that I need to take more care with the XPro than I do with my A7RIII.
    What is your experience of this apparent fragility in the base plate? Has it caused you any issues? David Bailey Milton Keynes, UK

    On a Nikon D90, the “auto-meter off” setting causes the Godox X2T-N to shortly shut down its display (possibly even reset), each time that setting times out (by default every 6 seconds!).
    When that happens, the camera’s “memory card access lamp” also briefly lights up. This lamp does not light up when the “auto-meter off” times out and the transmitter isn’t mounted on the camera.
    ( I wrote an email about this to Godox's support and posted this on Godox's channel too, but I figure more people will check this video )

    Great review, but I had an Xpro, and found it too big. It sits very high on the camera, and doesn't fit in my rather full camera bag very well. I hate the menu structure of the X1T, so hopefully this thing solves my problems. Bluetooth sound interesting as well.

  • @afonsosantos8364
    @afonsosantos8364 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why I would not upgrade (from X1T): I am right handed and shoot 90% in portrait orientation. The X2T's hotshoe being shifted to the right (compared to X1T) makes that, mounted on my A7iii, I would not have any space left to squeeze my nose in, or force me to do some face gimmicks to be able to look trought the EVF.

    Hi, i have a question here about the nikon Flashpoint R2T ii trigger, will it have the same design? because for Nikon pro series such as D700, D800, and etc their iso button and some other button is on top of the left side. so it is hard to access the function of the button after this X2T trigger is mounted.

    Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but prefer this over the pro for the sole reason that I can put my body with long 70-200 lens attached in my bag and not have to remove the transmitter. Easier on the camera hotshoe contacts not having to take off and remove the transmitter a gazillion times. When working without an assistant, I use a wheeled cart for my lights and can be ready for the shot (and back ready to move on) with a lot less fumbling around.

    WIth the X2T, are you able to remotely choose which flashes to fire/not to fire if you had multiple flashes set up but can't physically go to each flash to switch them on/off?

    Robert, I am curious about 3.10: what did you do with your trigger that you can change mode with one button? I got the X2T Fuji version that cannot do this. I always have to use the mode button... Latest firmware 1.0.

    Hi Robert, does this new X2T do the same thing as my XPro-C controller does ? so this is not the replacement that goes onto the bottom of a flash (not a replacement for the Godox X1R-C ) ( ? ) Thank you. I am just a bit confused.

    I just purchased the R2 Mark II, and it's great for my OCF. Now I need to ask you you can recommend a remote trigger that will pair with my R2 MarkII so that I can use it as a remote shutter release as well. Nikon D7500 user.

    Didn't you mean NimH rather than Lithium-ion batteries? Can't say I love the idea of the new focus assist beam. I doubt it's going to work as well as the ones with a pattern for those of us who need it sometimes and don't have a mirrorless.

    Thanks for finally clarifying the AF assist on the V1 and this trigger! Sonys (and other mirrorless cameras I imagine) have tons of trouble nailing focus in venues lit only by DJ lights without that feature. I was rigging small led lights to brackets, this will help lol.

    Love the x-pro but when I use a tripod, I really want a trigger with a vertical screen. Flashpoint sells a (somewhat awkward) adapter that makes the x-pro screen vertical, but not for Sony.

    I’ve just seen your review and I have two questions:
    1 - Do you know how to set the on-board flash (the flash on top of the transmitter, I’m not an English speaker)? I couldn't find any information about it :(
    2 - On the page 47 from the Manual they are saying about the TCM Function (Transform the TTL shooting value into the output value in the M mode). How to use/activate it?
    Thank you in advance, Robert :)

    On my Flashpoint version pressing the group buttons repeatedly does not cycle through the Off/TTL/Manual power settings as in this video, instead they select/de-select the group, requiring me to press the group button then use the mode button to cycle. Much less convenient, I think. Robert, can you confirm on the production Godox?
