    - About Dr. Mary Claire Haver and The Galveston Diet -
    Dr. Mary Claire Haver is a passionate women’s health advocate who believes women in midlife deserve to live their best life. She cuts through fat-shaming and fads, so women are empowered with the science behind anti-inflammation nutrition.
    Dr. Mary Claire Haver is a wife, mom, physician, and entrepreneur who has devoted her adult life to women’s health. As a Board-Certified OBGYN in the Houston area, Dr. Haver has delivered thousands of babies, completed thousands of well-woman exams, counseled patients, taught residents, and did everything an academic professor and OBGYN could do.
    As her patient population aged, Dr. Haver was overwhelmed with the number of complaints and concerns her patients had with weight gain while going through menopause. For years, she told her patients to eat less and exercise more. It wasn't until she experienced the changes of menopause and mid-life weight gain that she realized this advice doesn't work and ultimately led to her creating and developing a new program, The Galveston Diet.
    The Galveston Diet is the first and only nutrition program created by a Female OBGYN, designed for women in menopause. The Galveston Diet helps women reach their health and wellness goals through an anti-inflammatory approach to nutrition. Dr. Haver believes in food's power to combat inflammation and highly recommends the unlimited benefits of intermittent fasting. As part of her ongoing research, she became certified in Culinary Medicine in 2019, specializing in medical nutrition.

      As of today June 8, 2022. I have started eating more fruits and vegetables. I drink water infused with grapes or lemons. I eat more citrus fruit now and I must say that it reduces the hot flashes. Now I am working on purchasing some weights and walking more. My vehicle will be parked and I am riding public transportation.

    Your “coffeemilk” story really resonated with me. My Italian grandparents introduced us as little children in the same way, we didn’t call it coffeemilk but it was the same thing. I’ve been obsessed w coffee my whole life. Not liking my coffee black and not being able to go without it had thwarted my fasting efforts over and over and over. I’m convinced that my inability to kickstart the fat loss process is due to the milk/cream in my coffee, because at 46 my metabolism is that sluggish. Your story has given me hope and perspective! Thank you!

    I only buy mold free coffee and pour over coffee while fasting. This is my game changer. Any tea gives me serious headache. The brand Kicking Horse is the only brand that I can sip black coffee with no headache. Thank you for explaining that coffee is part of fasting. I have been fasting for almost a year now and have lost weight, so much mental clarity and reversed my fatty liver.

    Hi Mary Claire, I just discovered you and I’ve been binge watching your videos. I’m hooked! I had to laugh because I lived in Lake Charles until I was 12. You’re the first person I’ve ever encountered who knows “coffee milk”! I loved it as a kid and it definitely fueled my coffee addiction early on. I started drinking black coffee a while back too. Going to try the flavored coffees. Thanks for sharing!!

    I'm not from the south, but I am from RI and we are all about coffee. I grew up on coffee milk, and coffee ice cream was a staple in our house. Knowing what a coffee ice cream addict my father was, it probably was the first thing I ate as a baby. Love, love, love me some ice coffee, so it was easy to switch to the unsweetened cold brew. Thanks for all you do Mary. It is sooooo awesome to finally realize what the heck is going on with my body and that I can do something about it. Love your channel.

      Yes! 30 year coffee drinker here. I bought a Chemex last year. One day, I ran out of creamer and decided to drink a small cup before I ran to the store to buy creamer. I was stunned. The Chemex process CHANGES the flavor of coffee. I found my coffee to be less bitter. I enjoyed the aroma more and overall the experience. Highly recommended.

    I am interested in learning more about IF and your program. My question is if someone has lived with high emotional stress for 20 years is IF a good idea for them? I have heard that IF isn't for everyone.

    • @maryclairehavermd8473
      @maryclairehavermd8473  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is worth a try, as there are many forms of IF.

    • @OswaldDigestiveClinic
      @OswaldDigestiveClinic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree, it is contraindicated in some situations and disease states. For adrenal fatigue / high stress, this might be the case. I suggest tuning into your body. If during the IF you consistently feel dizzy or other negative symptoms, you might have to focus on improving that chronic stress first. Typically, for helping the body recover from adrenal fatigue, eating every about 3 hours during the day can really help, and then as the stress improves, transitioning to 3 meals daily and including IF as appropriate. Hope this helps!!

    I’ve heard that if you don’t drink coffee that has gone through a filter, pour your coffee through a filter to strain out carcinogenic ‘particles.’ It’s a bit of a waste for one cup, but if you drink coffee every day, it might be worth it to protect your health. Maybe you can use it multiple times each day so it won’t be too much of a waste.

    Lovely video, thanks. :) I practice 16/8 but with breakfast (ie, last meal around 5 pm and then starting at 9 am). Oatflakes are actually very healthy, and I have them with nuts and seeds and home-made yoghurt for breakfast, but I am assuming by "cereals" you weren't referring to those. :) I love coffee, too, and it took me a bit of time, but after a while I got used to drinking it without milk, now it's very enjoyable. Just a remark re. "artificial flavors"...I think any added flavors are not so good, ie, "natural flavors" do not have to be good just because it says natural. Anything (literally anything) that is not artificial can be added under the label of "natural", so I'd say best to stick to "no added flavors". :)

    What about natural monkfruit sweetner. ???

    • @maryclairehavermd8473
      @maryclairehavermd8473  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stevia and Erythritol with or without Monk Fruit are the only acceptable sugar alternatives known to not cause a spike in your insulin or glucose.
      Many ask if these can be consumed during the fasting period. Personally, I do not consume anything sweet during fasting but the jury is still out if it affects fasting or not.
      There are scientists the believe that when the sweet receptors of the tongue are stimulated by these substances, insulin is released, negating some of the benefits of fasting.

    It’s not just about calories. Anything that requires your liver to breakdown, process, or metabolize breaks your fast. You will only figure that out by testing on your own body.

      Fasting needs to be done for at least 12 consecutive hours to be effective for the health benefits - weight loss is modest at best.

      @maryclairehavermd8473  29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Adding a slice of lemon to your water when you aren't fasting is totally fine. We suggest waiting as long as you can in your fasting window to drink the lemon water. If you can only get to 14 hours then that is better than not fasting at all. You might be surprised if you try the water during the fasting time plain you might learn to like it.
