*Changed my life. I will never eat the same ever again. "Unless you physically trip and your face lands in a box **weightlose.fitness** of donuts, there is no such thing as a 'slip'." Get that mind set and you'll win again and again.*
My first fast lasted 15 days. My second fast lasted 20 days. My 3rd fast lasted 40 days. Most of my ailments were resolved. I did hospital visits before and after, and my readings changed significantly for the better. I stopped needing my inhalers. My osteoarthritis pains stopped. My inflammatory readings went from 1200 to 5! Two of my doctors discharged me. Fasting works
This guy may have changed my life! I have lost 40 pounds so far. Not hungry anymore I have complete control now. Thank you for sharing your knowledge !
av chimay and the breakfast industry!!! That is my theory as to why it's so under promoted. I never was a breakfast person, however all the massive marketing for it made me feel like I was wrong or unhealthy for not eating "the most important meal of the day"...but no matter what they try and push on you, your body knows what's best, it sends you signals point blank period, i dont get the signals for hunger in the mornings when i wake up so i dont eat, and im just fine, I'm in a super healthy place with my weight because i basically don't force feed myself when my body simply isn't hungry.
@@chenanigans Yup i never had breakfast for many years. They told me to eat 3 times a day or you will get ulcers but i've been doing IF for many years and i am fine. I am healthy, laboratory tests all normal.. If i eat 3 times a day i get weak and feel heavy. That's why i eat mostly once a day only, sometimes 2, that's enough my body needs.
@@clxma true. as a physician myself these concepts are eye opening and in stark contrast to what we have been taught right from the first year of our MBBS! they go against all the guidelines we have crammed over the years, yet i guess it's great someone like Dr. Fung has come forward and dispelled all those concepts with pure logic and science.
I’m on my 6th day of water fasting. I’m very obese and was in the danger zone for type 2 and high cholesterol. My doctor prescribed meds but instead I chose this method. I’m so happy that I did. My levels are at normal levels and my blood pressure is regulated. I haven’t weighed myself yet but I can tell I’m losing a lot of weight (loose clothes). I want to do 21 days and then start IF (16-8 method). I think modern medicine disowned this because this will take money out of their pockets. They get paid off your illness. Drug you up on medication you can barely pronounce or know what it’s doing to your body. Key factor to better health is watch your intake (learn your blood type and the foods associated with it) exercise (really moderately even short with burst of intense training) and sleeping. That’s mainly it. This video is amazing ☝🏽👌🏽
Blue Water I’ve stopped my fast yesterday. I felt that I was ready to eat again. I feel so much better since the fast. The way I look at foods now is totally different. Making better choices.
Blue Water I didn’t know how long I’d do it. I said 21 days but honestly I recommend doing it until you truly feel like it’s enough. Everyone is made differently so I would never do it to break a record or anything just for benefits to your body and mental health.
Devon Washington you're not alone! I'm on day 9 willing myself to keep going. The longest I've gone before was 14 days and I'm waiting to experience those hunger pains again when I decide to break it. After that, I plan to eat a vegan salad every 36 hours until I reach my weight loss and insulin goals. Good luck to you sir!
crldnlc isn’t it incredible that one can feel better, have more energy and longer days, after sleep wake up more alert, loose cravings for food and no hunger pains for any food - by not eating anything at all ! 😁
E vL - isn’t it so, I never believed I could not be starving hungry like day and night. Who knew? I have been OMAD for about three months now after 4 day fast. Went from 201 stabilized at 173. Actually didn’t want to go down so much. But stable now so ok. Had all to do to loose 5 lbs prior. Now I am not hungry ever, nor crave, ever. No appetite. Frankly, was easy to do. For my one meal have to eat a ton - hit the buffet places, but accustomed myself so no more stuffed feeling. When I leave not even feel full. Missed by usual feeding time today by 2 hrs, didn’t bother me at all. Although by lipids were good, have improved. Blood pressure dropped, resting pulse dropped below 50 (avid runner), ran fastest 5 miler ever, and I’m 61. I heard from everyone that getting older you slow down, metabolism slows, put on weight, etc. I don’t know what to say to them, like being from a different world 😎 Peace.
I fast every day and eat a small meal at 6pm and most days I eat when I am hungry.but only a small meal when I eat. idrink coffee only in the morning and water the rest of the day. I am nearly 80 yrs. old and I feel great every day! no treats between my one meal.
I started intermittent fasting June 2016. It was easy...I lost 22 pounds in 19 days and went on to lose all of my weight which was 34 pounds by July 15. I now eat this way everyday. I have a window of5 hours where I eat. I eat clean and I DO NOT EAT SUGAR. I am 60 years old and people think I am 45. Eating this way has so many positive changes: Digestive, energy, hair, muscle, skin.....it is undeniable.
Secrecy1988 True, the supermarkets selling the food will be pissed, as well as the restaurants, takeaways and ultimately big pharma who cant wait to get you loaded on pills starting with statins
It works and I feel so much healthier and have lots of energy. The money saving on food is great too. My freezer has never been so full. Great easy to understand information. 😊👍🏼
I did a 3 days fast and wow what a change - dropped 7 lbs in 3 days my blood sugar went from 154 to 77 and I felt great and had so much energy! Thank you Dr. Fung.
I did water fast only. First I did a 30 hours. Feels comfortable. Few days later, I did a 3 days. Feels ok. Then I did a 6.5 days. Feels ok. Feels empower and in control. First 3 days hardest. Do normal activities. Keep busy to forget. First couple days I get the hunger jitters but pass after 5 minutes. I felt a bit low energy and sluggished. My glucose count one point was 60. My blood ketone was 7.3 keto mojo.
danpt2000 It seems to be the opposite to me. Poor people eat like shit. They''re usually eating lots of fast food and junk food, since those are cheap.
Poor people in North America, yes they eat junk food, and cheep food here is crap. But poor people outside North America used to eat basic food, and home grown food. That is different.
I think I may have been referring to poor people in other countries, rather than in USA. You see some people in India, Asia, in some Island countries, these people appear really fit, it may be due to the abundant physical Labor, and less processed foods.
JG Harris Anyone selling books has an agenda. It's not to say that this Dr. Fung is not genuine and the real deal because I do believe him to be correct on these subjects but it doesn't mean he doesn't have an agenda. It also doesn't mean that agenda is bad or malicious. Just don't assume anyone doesn't have an agenda, it would be naive.
I didn't even know he had a book. He's clearly passionate about this, he doesn't keep going on about his book and he's a real doctor, I think his agenda is to get people healthy. Some people's agenda is to sell books, they are the people who I wouldn't trust. This guy wants you to be healthy he's not too bothered if you don't read his book.
So I would suggest exercise as soon as soon as you wake up in the morning. Also exercising in a faster state is a fat burner on steroids! So much these companies don’t want people to know! FAST ON!!!
@A.A.Ron Davis i get headaches when jogging in the sun now since I've been doing omad. Am i nutrient deficient and should i take more salt for elektrolytes? Or did you mean something else with referral to the body?
Could you imagine if everyone in the country listened to his advice and practiced regular intermittent and prolonged fasting and other health precautions? This current garbage being promoted by big pharma, most mainstream doctors and the media would be greatly opposed. A nation of healthy, strong, resilient people would fair so much better compared to, “Just wear this mask, take this jab and shut up and don’t question anything!”
It's funny. I think we all instinctively know this, but get progressively more endoctrinated as we become adults. I recall dropping weight as a teenager by simply not eating. Unintentional, but intuitively instinctual, fasting. People would always ask, how'd you lose weigt so fast. The they would look dumbfounded when I would answer, by eating less. People don't like the truth.
where were you all my life? 30 years of binges, self hate and food addiction was so unneccesary. I am on OMAD now, with Keto feeding periods. lets do this!!
Never planned of losing weight but after my separation of my wife, I kind of want into a depression. Just never ate not because I wanted to, I didn't have no appetite. So I was 310 with hypertension, after about a month with no food. I weighed 280 my blood pressure was at 130/80 compared to 160/110 now after a year I'm at 170 pressure at 110/80 now I'm in control in what I eat😃
keep up the good work Jason. I'm type 2 diabetic. I lost 22 pounds fasting recently got test results from my diabetic doctor. blood pressure was 120 over 76 . a1c went down 9 points my doctor almost fell out of his chair and asked me how I did this. I told him fasting and low carb high fat diet. he told me I could have extra turkey for thanksgiving and I asked could I have some cake to he said yes as long as you fast 20 hours

Breakfast just means Break Fast. Doesn’t mean you have to have it in the morning. We’re all fasting while we sleep and if you break your fast at 7pm that’s still breakfast so you’re still having breakfast if you’re intermittent fasting
Alternate day 24hr fasting is hugely successful for me!! I'm finally losing significant weight again. First 50 lbs was IF 20/4, but weightloss began to stall significantly. Now it's almost a pound a day loss!!! Eating day is not IF. Keto meals whenever I want. Fasting day is dinnertime to dinnertime. Fasting insulin is finally controlled for me. Hallelujah! 70 lbs more to go. I am confident it's going to happen.
I actually started doing this fasting and feel the difference. The first day is OK. Second day is a Lil rough. Third day was horrible. And the fourth was smooth sailing. Like my body understood what was happening. My mind and thinking became more clearer. It's an amazing feeling. Lost about 10 lbs already.
Its been 7 months since you made this comment. how are you going with this intermittent fasting ? Did you honestly stick to it? If you did tell us how you feel thus far. If not please tell us why you gave it up because im seriously thinking about doing this!
Btw for the people that wanna know. There are studies that show autophagy kicks in after 16 hours of fasting. So if ur fasting 16-20 hours u actually get alot of the benefits already. 😁
Yes if you've been doing keto for at least a few weeks you start getting benifits from autophagy slowly around 20 hours and it will slowly come quicker if you continue to intermittent fast for longer periods with a keto lifestyle. Some reports say 12 to 14 hours it begins for someone who has been doing IF for months, but it hasn't been confirmed in a controlled study yet. Personally I have been intermittent fasting for a year averaging 21/3. I feel autophagy kicking in around 18 hours after a 2 hour workout and break my fast a few hours later. When skin tags disappear, scares clear up, wrinkles around your eyes dissipate then you can safely assume your getting some autophagy going on. OMAD seems to be the way to go but I can only do it once or twice a week. I was 320 lbs 2 years ago, 225 a year ago, 195 today. 5'10" 60 year old Canadian male. If I can do it anyone can. Presently my skin in slowly tightening up with good nutrition from bone broths, collagen, omega 3 fatty acids etc... in my eating window. My hopes are autophagy will get the job done even if it takes a few years.
I’ll answer for him, I lost 16 lbs a month doing low cal. OMAD (500-700 less calories) I am currently 30 lbs down for the whole year, and I haven’t done low cal since February. I’m telling you guys stick with it!!!
It is definitely easier when eating high fat low carb. Recently I have allowed myself a bit more lenience with refined sugar as there are so many Christmas related sugary treats flying around and as much as I like the results of abstaining there is pleasure to be had from letting go once in a while. It's always my aim to have a slightly more relaxed December with an ultra strict January on the horizon. Anyway, to get to the point I have noticed that it is more difficult to fast when I have been eating refined sugar. I get hunger pangs sooner than I normally would and they are more insistent than usual. Presumably this is down to there being more insulin in the system and less leptin. Mike put out a video recently on helpful hints to reduce weight gain and I adhere to the suggestion of having MCT oil before or during eating sugar, except I use coconut oil as in my eyes nature knows best. It works and it also means I can eat an amount of refined sugar that would normally be enough to kick me out of ketosis but it doesn't due to the oil slowing absorption and lowering insulin response. I hope that helps somewhat. Give the fasting a go! There are great psychological benefits to be had as well as the physiological ones.
Yup. Skin tag fell off my face near my eye. I fast 48 hours every other day. Keto, omad and alternate day fasting. I feel amazing and weight is flying off. My body is healing from insulin resistance and my periods are regulating. When i get down to my goal weight i will prob do omad every day or a 20:4 intermittant fasting for the rest of my life.
I do this too (OMAD). From 165lbs now down to 140lbs. My abs started showing and my mind is more focused in what I'm doing (mostly music arrangement and composition). I get more productive and get the body that I always wanted in just a couple of months.
ThAnks to Dr. Fung and the Keto diet I am down 71 lbs in 78 days! I do a 48 hour fast 2 days a week the other days I eat one meal a day. It’s amazing!! I’m never hungry. I don’t think about food 24/7 like I used to. I am free of the addiction that I never thought was possible. I have always dieted and always failed but always felt deprived and weak when I would give into the addiction. I no longer see giving up carbs and sugar as a curse because I now see carbs and sugar as poison. My liver enzymes are normal my cholesterol is normal my triglycerides are normal and my thyroid is starting to work again. The energy and mental clarity is insane!! This SAVED MY LIFE. Thank you!
High Intensity Health Thank you so much for putting this information out you are helping so many people! and please if you talk to Dr. Fung tell him I am forever grateful.
@@Highintensityhealth 48 hours fast seriously man? Don't u drink water during 48 hours? Can u plz explain how to fast? i want to lose weight but scared of losing my skin.
I’ve been using this. I’ve worked up to a 21-22 hour fast mostly days and have lost 63 lbs in less than a year. It’s the easiest thing I’ve ever done. I exercise on 20 hour fasts and feel great. My friend has started it and loves it too. I still have a ways to go but am confident I will reach my goals. ♥️
Colleen A I started this felt great my doctor told that fasting caused my gallstones.... I stopped and with me gallbladder removed I still feel horrible... mind I’m 38 was born with no thyroid.... I’m about to start again ... I do 16:8
Maybe, but imagine food corps adapting to produce better quality food, all organic, no added sugar, grass fed meat. It could force them to up their game.
I would love for this to happen. Anecdotally, however, I think it will not. I have been salt-water fasting and I openly talk about it. My coworkers and family are SCARED. They tell me I'm insane, anorexic, killing myself, whatever. I started at 265 lbs, with a BMI of something like 35. I am not anorexic lmao. I love eating, but the fact is I've not felt this good in years. People are losing their minds, but no one said ANYTHING about my health when I was getting fat. The voice of Mother Culture is loud in the ears of the masses.
@Vickie Gates yea. I always laugh because he’s so cavalier about it. I imagine he tells actual idiots this when they try to argue with him. I hope he does, anyways.
It took me 1 year to go from 196 lbs to 178, just by trying to eat less, and now in 1 month i came down to 167 with IF 20:4. So im pretty happy with the result...
Real boxing Fan1 you’re a troll idiot. Eating less meals doesn’t mean eating less calories. I eat 16:8 window and hit all my macros for the day. He talks about cutting calories in his book causing slowing metabolism. Get a clue moron.
Wow ... I'm jealous, I started 16:8 IF -- 5 days ago, but so far I've lost less than 1 pound... I guess its a slow process and my body prefers to hold-on-to weight. I need to lose 15 pounds of body fat, mostly from around my tummy is my preference...
What a great video, I started Intermittent Fasting 9 months ago and I eat only One Meal A Day. I lost 30 pounds in the first 2 months and I have kept it off for the past 7 months. I started IF mainly because of Dr Fung's videos he is a wealth of knowledge. I posted a few videos about my transformation to do my part of spreading the word and hope to inspire others to try it.
Its been 1 week since you made this comment. how are you going with this intermittent fasting ? Did you honestly stick to it? If you did tell us how you feel thus far. If not please tell us why you gave it up because im seriously thinking about doing this!
yes, I have been eating One Meal A Day for 10 months now. I plan to eat this way for the rest of my life. I started OMAD to lose weight and I hit my goal losing 30 pounds in 2 months. I am sticking to OMAD for all the health benefits. I posted a few videos about my journey with pictures, heres the most recent one I posted 2 weeks ago. th-cam.com/video/SqvBZjaEXuY/w-d-xo.html I hope you will find the information helpful. I gave some of my tips and things I have learned with OMAD.
But you can have obese people who are severely malnourished because they eat lots of empty calories, food that is calorie dense but nutrient deficient. And they are driven to eat more because the body is screaming for nutrients, but they eat some more empty calories, repeating the cycle over and over. I would argue that obese people do need nutrients, as well as many other things like nutrition education, and developing a healthier relationship with food. The essential vitamins and minerals we need are “essential” because the body cannot make them and/or store them in large quantities and they must be obtained from the food we eat, while performing numerous and complex inter-related functions in the body.
@@tracygiles8789 Yeah I'd agree with almost every point you made. My only issue with that old saying of empty calories is, what does it refer to specifically as empty? Carbs, Fat or Protein? We already know that we can eat anything we want and get lean if it fits our macros but if someone is not getting enough protein, they'd like be losing muscle overtime so that could be an issue. Interesting subject!
Real boxing Fan1 if 5% of the population incorporate I.F., they would lose billions. Don’t underestimate the politics that corporations pull behind closed doors. Why do you think bread and cheese have a major section in the food pyramid?
It might be a good thing as the world population grows the need for food and farming will need to increase dramatically so if might balance things out until the next cycle
After having a baby while working two jobs, I barely had time to eat more than one meal per day. Overtime I became used to it and alot of people looked at me like I was crazy. Many years later it's actually a thing. I can't seem to get enough of the science and studies behind fasting - the human body is so amazing!!! Thanks Dr Fung
I’m 37 and discovered my weight slowly drifting up. When I got to 185 I was like NOPE! Thus I started doing HIIT three times a week. After that, OMAD. It’s easy, time-efficient, and effective. I’m one happy camper. After a few weeks, I went down to 176 and falling. Update: now at 160 (5’11”) and being less strict.
OMG! This is just a fantastic interview, it made so much sense I feel so great doing my keto and intermittent fasting. And I'm off my diabetes medication.
I’m the 150 dude that’s all muscle that he was talking about. I only go on 2 day fasts to not lose weight but instead just improve my health while not fasting
I have to thank dr. Fung he was very inspirational and getting me to start a fast and then a ketogenic type diet. In the last 85 days I have done a 40-day fast and a 30-day fast and lost 85 pounds.
Two nutritionists insisted I eat a snack right before bed. They both told me as a diabetic I would mess up my insulin levels and hurt myself if I fasted. After listening to many doctors, but especially you, Dr. Fung, I have decided to try intermittent fasting. I had a bout of afib last July because I dehydrated in over 100 degrees weather twice in 3 days at outdoor concerts. In the hospital, I realized I hadn't eaten for about 30 hours and my brain fog lifted, I felt energized, and my blood glucose was not far from normal. I was shocked. I'm 63, 5'11", 350 pounds, diabetic on insulin and metformin, and I am very aware that I must behave differently or drop dead soon. You make sense. What you say makes sense and is based on good science. I am going to buy your book(s) and do this. I know it will work. THANK YOU!
I have been doing this for 5 weeks and found that his methods worked on me. I lost about 10 lbs which was very difficult for me and I don't get hungry. I used to crave foods, now those cravings are gone. It was very difficult the first week, but got much better the following weeks.
ohmygosh! I'm glad the Dr. mentioned sleep disturbances like waking up in the night being so full of energy and the brain is super active. This happened to me after I started eating low carb, high fat and I had so much energy that I would wake up at 3am and my brain wanted to just think, be creative, and have all these ideas! cool!
Megan Hantz, Health Coach Many of my clients report the same increased energy! For sleep though, try mouth taping or meditating before bed. Cheers, Mike
Dr Fung has been helping my husband reverse his Type 2 Diabetes! Every Saturday when we blog our Keto Journey he praises Dr Fung and his videos/books/info and help!
I always listen to Dr. Fung when doing longer fasts. Because of the mind-body connection, it seems to make the process of fasting easier for me when I’m being reminded of how much good this does for my body with the increase in HGH and autophagy.
Actually the doctors are extremely thrilled to bits about this as it means their [patients are getting better! Certainly the Health "INDUSTRY" will not be best pleased, though they will put all their money into low-carb products which ultimately are rubbish. but to say all doctors are in cahoots is ludicrous. Unless you live in America of course, where their corrupt health insurance system drives their Illness-service.
Lynne Gill theres too many practicing doctors to be in “cahoots” with these industries. It would be just as idiotic to believe that conspiracy theory as the other side of the Coin. However, it’s not unreasonable to think these industries have a huge influence on the medical training community, educating them to believe that fasting is unhealthy.
After failing in all attempts to lose weight, finally I got success in IF technique and i lost near about 15 pounds in three months...............Each and every word of this amazing video is absolutely true...
can say this guy speaks the truth, cutting calories just doesn't seem to work for me but as soon as I went low carb the fat started dropping off radically and all my bodily systems started functioning much better.
Yeah, but if you're eating a lot of carbohydrates it gets clogged with fat... So I'll go for the toxins that get dealt with in the liver. Also ketogenic diet doesn't mean you're not get any carbs. You eat plenty of plant material, which includes fibers, which is good, because it makes sure you don't overload on carbs.
Kudos for the video content! Forgive me for chiming in, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you heard about - Dinanlinson Amazing Look Approach (do a search on google)? It is a good one of a kind guide for learning how to quickly lose weight minus the hard work. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my mate at last got excellent success with it.
Brilliant video. Dr. Jason Fung is very knowledgable and trustworthy, great charisma! I've been doing it for over a year and haven't looked back since. Fat loss has bean great along with building muscle. The best part for me was that it was so east to implement. Keep up the good work!
Does Okibetonic Secrets really work? I notice lots of people keep on talking about Okibetonic Secrets. But Im uncertain if it's good enough to lost a lot of fat.
On Day 22 of Intermittent Fasting. Its called Ramadan. Trust me after about 2 weeks you feel a lot less sluggish, no cravings or mood swings, tiredness goes away. The body adapts well, the excess fat is used up. Will start water fasting after ramadan for a deeper detox. Hoping to build up to 7 days water fasting and to repeat it every 3mths
I'm about to start a 5 day fast. They do a world of good. I heard one of these doctors say a 4 day water fast is all it takes to reset your whole immune system.
why 5? autophagy is optimal on 2-3 day fast, after that you start losing muscle. Dr.Fung advocates intermittent fasting , not complete fasting. you should fast at most up to 2-3 days depending on your body, fastin for prolonged period of time is unhealthy. but then again you might have your doctor's consent. so who knows what your situation is.
@@onlinename8066 You are not fully correct. Fast until you're lean. You're still burning fat and ketones. Autopaghy is still happen even though it diminishes. I'm on day 5 of another 7 day fast with Snake Juice. Search out Snake juice on youtube.
@Ayinde Mitchell the BMR increases in lean pple maybe in the first 1-2 days (not so much in obese pple), then it starts to plummet. it goes down ~ 10-15% after 5-10 days and after 30 days to > 25%. you start losing protein immediately - but not significantly in the first day or 2, maybe 1-3%. however after 5 days it's greater than 5%. After 10 days it's ~10% you lose vital minerals in long fasts. that intermittent fasting replenishes source:th-cam.com/video/_1r8ffLDFcE/w-d-xo.html partial -day fasting(intermittent fasting) seems to have health advantages, even 2-3 day fasts seems ok .but anything over is dangerous.

3 years old and still about the most informative show on Fasting available. I have watched this several times and will continue to. My wife says it's like my form of AA! lost 90 pounds so far and I feel 30 years younger. I've read his books but this TH-cam sums them up nicely. Thank You!
I’ve been IF for almost two years now. Honestly I can say that I feel better now than I did 10 years ago at 30. I lost 80 lbs in the first year and have kept my body weight stable since. Although even at the same weight I’m way leaner than I was. I fast anywhere from 16-20 hours a day everyday. I have noticed that once every two weeks or so I have an overwhelming urge to take in a bunch of extra calories. Even after I do that I don’t really have any noteworthy weight gain. It’s like a way for my body to refuel up on glycogen. It only started happening after I got really lean. I would say my bf is around 10%. IF worked wonders for me. My blood work is all in the optimal range.
I am 75 years old. Last year I did a 25-day water fast. I had no problems. I was advised to not exercise or take long walks, but to rest because one loses muscle if they do too much exercise (walking for a 1/2 mile, for example). When I was around 48, I did a 3-week water fast and walked on the beach daily, went out dancing a couple of times and felt more energetic when I was active. The only difference in this 3-week fast was that I drank Perrier water with a little lemon once a day. When I fast again, I plan to be more active, e.g. walk by the river, go to work at my part-time job as a CA (bagger) at Whole Foods (5 hours a day Mon. Thursday and 8 hours Sunday. I plan to do a 6-day fast using this protocol. I would appreciate any input.
Kathy Cromartie - thank you for weighing in. I hope you hear from others around your age who have and are doing the same as you. You sound so amazing! My mother is your age and I would want to share this with her, but have been wary.
I like how many times this guy says ''stupid''. I feel him. And I would like to see how excess skin disappears over time. Because I didn't realize autophagy can make it go away. Excess skin is the one thing that freaks people out.
Jo Hunter sadly many morbidly obese people who manage to lose weight with low to zero carb diets don’t do the long fasts...and end up paying tens of thousands of dollars on skin removal surgery..wish they would have had the discipline and knowledge of fasting.
l want to say thank you personally for the difference that this information has made in my life. My physician was ready to put me on medication for diabetes and high cholesterol. I've completely reversed my the issues, I've lost more than 40 lbs and I feel great. Dr. Fung, thank you for helping me preserve my quality of life and improve my health.
Dr. Fung is looking good. In this interview, he said he has a teenager and grew up in the 70's, so that means he is in his 40's and 50's, yet he looks like he looks a good decade younger.

This is a must watch for anyone who has issues losing weight. We've been lied to about what we should eat and how often. I've been doing keto for years, but on May 2nd (2018) I added fasting. I figured I'd start with 16-18 hours, but the first day I went 22 hours with a little discomfort at 1 PM, but that went away quickly. My first 3 weeks I was able to fast 20-22 hours per day every day! I've lost about 1/2 pound a day for a total of 14 pounds as of May 30th! Last week (4th) I allowed 1-2 oz of a fatty cheese, brie, which curbs the discomfort without causing any issues. The 4th week I still averaged 1/2 pound a day. Oh, BTW, I am not doing any exercising, BUT I just ordered a bike because I really feel good and want to get moving.
I first discovered intermittent fasting a year ago, worked great for a while but then fell off the wagon and starting overeating thinking I can just fast the fat away whenever I want, that didn't go well. About 3 months ago I decided to do intermittent fast everyday and just go the first 6-8 hours before having food. Most days this is just skipping breakfast. Now I am at a point where I don't feel like I am doing anything special, I go about my day and eat when hunger kicks in which is about 6-8 hours after waking up and I have just been seeing the fat melt off like butter and great muscle gain at the gym
I ain't est in 3 days. Aiming for a 5 day fast but it just depends how everything goes because it's my birthday this weekend and i just might want to get a bit drunk.
True. It's ok. You just have to make it into a lifestyle very slowly. I also started skipping breakfast then started eating sooner and sooner and every stage took 2-3 months. Now I am heading towards omad. But only after 1 year can I think about omad
Cos the thing with shorter eating window periods is you don't get to have the appetite to eat in short periods. So 8 hrs is ideal for some. In my case, I got bored with the 16/8 and challenged myself with the 24 to 36-hr fast, and it felt much better.
Figures....Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers etc are ridiculing intermittent fasting as dangerous, ineffective etc---why?? because they don't want something as effective (and FREE) as intermittent fasting to cut into their multimillion $$ business
david graham I stopped going to Weight watchers when they told people if they exercise they need to eat more to it effect weight loss? 🤔also the women at the meeting blatantly said well Weight Watchers is a business first which means our profits come first... not your customers? 🤔
Went from 122 kg 268 lbs to 94 kg 207 in 3 months with if and keto Never felt better Thank you Dr Fung and Dr Eric The medical industry should learn from these two about ethics
I was heavier but lost the same amount of weight. The last time i was 99kg (as of 12am this morning), I was 18 yo. I turn 26 on Monday. I can't believe it tbh. I don't do keto because i personally feel like the amount of fat makes me feel like throwing up. I used 3 different types of diets, all of which actually made the transition to Fasting almost effortless. Now i try to fast between 48-72 hours
And that's with all this type of stuff being shadowbanned or outright removed from TH-cam labeled as conspiracy. So many links like this I have saved and try to share to people, to find out it has been removed by TH-cam.
@@sweetpotatocavy717 actually I work in a hospital in the interventional cardiology department xD why? you don't learn anything about good nutritions in university and especially not once you start working.
The weight loss aspect is great, but the thing I find the most compelling about IF is definitely how it triggers the process of autophagy! Truly amazing.
I post the same thing on ask these videos. If u want to lose weight n have tried everything else DO THIS.!! This shit works. I battled weight my entire life. This is so easy. I been doing it since June I've lost 65lbs. It takes a minute to see results but once it starts it just literally falls off. After about a month n a half i started seeing results. This is no joke it works.
FINALLY! Finally someone explaining the importance and benefits of fasting from a CLEAR and SCIENTIFIC perspective. Also, debunking all these other myths flooding the internet today is so important, as people are getting so misinformed by idiotic 'health advocates' claiming all this bullshit about fasting. Jason Fung you are amazing- keep doing what you do!
No hunger, spending less on food, eating food I cook myself, warding off disease (cancer), off meds 100%, bright alert and loving work again. If there's more pluses than this, it doesnt matter, this is +++ overload. #keto
A very important aspect is the fact that carbs and sugars put us on a vicious craving and insulin spike cycle. On the other hand, healthy fats and oils satiate hunger and do not trigger cravings.
I could listen to Dr Fung all day long. He explains everything so well. He as changes the way I think about food. My weight is coming of lovely, I love fasting. It as changed my life. Makes me feel in control of myself. Thank you Dr Fung.
Awesome talk!! Been on IF for 3.5 years now (23 hrs three times a week and 15 hrs the other 4 days). About salt: you can put some salt into tiny empty capsules, which are available in many online stores and are super cheap, this way you don't have to taste nasty salted water nor feel salt depleted
Have you tried unprocessed salt? Natural, unprocessed salt like Himalayan salt taste sooooo much better than the processed stuff. Just a pinch or two in a quart or liter of water, and there is no 'nasty salt water' taste. Or the amount of salt you want to take each day can be mixed into the amount of water you plant to drink each day. Still no bad taste. Add a squeeze of lemon and you will have a very refreshing drink. Natural, unprocessed salt also tastes great on food. Once you start using it, you will not want to go back to the processed stuff. Sad that the industrial food system has even messed up something as simple and basic as salt. These days most all sea salt is contaminated with tiny bits of plastic (which release toxic chemicals) and who knows what other pollutants. Table salt is highly processed, heated to around 1,200 F, which changes the structure, all the minerals are stripped, and chemicals are added back so it does not clump in damp weather or high humidity, ('When it rains, it pours...'). Unprocessed salt, like Himalayan salt or Redmond salt, is mined from ancient sea salt deposits - it's pre-pollution sea salt! These salts don't burn like regular processed table salt can (especially noticable when eating something like potato chips when you have a cut or sore on your lips). It has beneficial trace and micro trace minerals. And best of all. the flavor is wonderful!
That doctor will save most humans from obesity or overweight related health issues..ty dr Fung. You re one in a million amongst well awakened doctors..keep up the wind of change!
If you found your BMR on any calculator and stuck to it, you would not be losing fat if you have insulin resistance, hypothyroidism, and estrogen dominance. Personally if I go by 1200 calories, I lose 0. So, calories in calories out, counting calories is not necessary. Fat loss for me did not happened until broth and water fasts. Tried starting out 1865 and worked myself down to 1000 calories on OMAD. Still no fat loss. Its hormonal. I stopped counting calories and went by hunger. My true hunger is every 32 hours. Boom, lost 13 lbs. Total loss for 1 year. 23 lbs. I am going to keep going. Eat only when hungry and enough fat to satisfy.
Needs to be atleast 300-500 minus ur bmr thats why, otherwise u stay baseline yes bc thata ur baseline function amount to live ... so of course if you ate at yr basal burn rate you will stay the same weight
Sheila Wassenmiller agreed...I ate SAD foods at 1000 calories for over 12 years ...gained a kilogram each year since 26 years old...now I eat only 1-3 pounds of meat per day which can be anywhere from 800 calories to 1600 or 2400 calories....but usually 800 calories and I am losing fat every week 1-2 lbs...quality of food counts more...it enables healing and hormones to do their job in the body properly.
if you do heavy manual labour intensive work you have to have more calorific intake than a seditary office worker. if you take on more calories than you need it becomes fat. so its wise to keep a check on intake
Thankfully, Fung, and others, explain that it is the daily restricted calorie intake that trigger a slower metabolism. Even when people exercize for many hours a day, as on The Biggest Loser TV show. Even YEARS later, the contestants' metabolism remains damaged. When we eat frequently, especially foods that trigger insulin release - sugar and starch - that makes the body store fat. As Fung says, people used to know this. No eating between meals. No sugary or starchy foods if you want to lose weight. Simple.
@@Jefferdaughter its calories in calories out. insulin doesnt make a meaningful difference. only thing that all these eating styles do is make the calorie restriction easier. intermittent fasting, low carb, make you more satiated by eating more protein. and not eating that much carbs/limiting eating time affects insulin levels which makes the sugar cravings go away etc... ie EASIER. FASTING in itself is not the weight losing trick. its the calorie restriction. which is made easier by fasting. without people even noticing it they are eating less calories. for example the every other day fasting: of course it will lose weight since your weekly calories will be a lot lower than they would be if you ate everyday. all other mental things like cravings etc should not be taken into account when speaking of what makes you lose weight. its the calorie restriction. everything else will make it easier.
Fasting is one of the BEST things I am doing. LIBERATING not to have to think about food three times a day, More time, more energy, more good health, more good moods, simple to follow and can do it anywhere and anytime. Dr Fung is saving a lot of lives and life styles. he explains it so well and makes so much sense to non medical public.
When you eat 3 meals per day or more, your body is always producing the storage hormone Insulin. When Insulin is up, Glucagon (the fat and sugar releasing hormone ) is down. Eating fewer meals each day is advantageous because it will put you in a better fat burning state. When you are in a fasted state your body is burning stored energy like fat. Intermittent fasting is a great way to keep Glucagon up and Insulin down.

av chimay and the breakfast industry!!! That is my theory as to why it's so under promoted. I never was a breakfast person, however all the massive marketing for it made me feel like I was wrong or unhealthy for not eating "the most important meal of the day"...but no matter what they try and push on you, your body knows what's best, it sends you signals point blank period, i dont get the signals for hunger in the mornings when i wake up so i dont eat, and im just fine, I'm in a super healthy place with my weight because i basically don't force feed myself when my body simply isn't hungry.
av chimay Bahahaha. This is true 🤣

I don’t know what to say to them, like being from a different world 😎 Peace.

no but really, many times, the poorer people I see have better health, probably because they don't over eat , and eat crap.
danpt2000 It seems to be the opposite to me.
Finally, all the questions answered by a REAL DOCTOR. Not some schmuck with an agenda.

Anyone selling books has an agenda.
JG Harris ~ Sometimes people write books to share information first and foremost....just a thought.
I didn't even know he had a book. He's clearly passionate about this, he doesn't keep going on about his book and he's a real doctor, I think his agenda is to get people healthy. Some people's agenda is to sell books, they are the people who I wouldn't trust. This guy wants you to be healthy he's not too bothered if you don't read his book.
you don't think doctors are schmucks with agendas? hahahahahahahahahahaha
John Wick's pencil yes but most doctors agenda is to treat your illness. Not cure it. Funds agenda is to cure type 2 diabetes and obesity.

Pharma Industry and Government will HATE this video! I think Jason is fantastic. I only eat once a day and feel great since starting.
Kinda makes you think Jason should watch his back. Spreading the truth is dangerous.
I used to say, eating three meals a day is too time consuming and costly. I was on to something and didn’t realize it😊
@Pun Jab I really? Wow didn't know that
Omg. You're soooo smart.
I'd rather have one leisurely meal that I can enjoy mindfully, than 2 or 3 where I feel rushed.
I used to complain that food was a poor investment and thought it was stupid to spend so much money on it. Guess I found the right lifestyle, then.

Been doing OMAD or 23:1 for three months and I've lost 50 pounds. Fasting works!
Have you ever done several days of fasting in a row? I'm kind of curious about that ;)
Hi Brett,
I sometimes fast for up to 48 hours. Was there anything in particular you were wondering about?
XerophSerenade just about how difficult it was though much easier being fat adapted i hear
XerophSerenade thanks I'm actually looking forward to the challenge!
Congrats that's great.
I do this too (OMAD). From 165lbs now down to 140lbs. My abs started showing and my mind is more focused in what I'm doing (mostly music arrangement and composition). I get more productive and get the body that I always wanted in just a couple of months.
What issues did/do you have apart from irregular periods may I ask? Sufferer of PCOS here.
Thank you!
Amazing! Thanks Melonie!
Mike

I’ve been using this. I’ve worked up to a 21-22 hour fast mostly days and have lost 63 lbs in less than a year. It’s the easiest thing I’ve ever done. I exercise on 20 hour fasts and feel great. My friend has started it and loves it too. I still have a ways to go but am confident I will reach my goals. ♥️
Colleen A really happy for you
That’s great!
Of course you will reach your goal 👏
So, what kind of diet you follow with if?
Ur not doing it right

Explosive interview. The kiss of death for the Food Corporations.
Not just that, whole approach to medicine will change in future, Dr. Fung also thinks fasting has effect on cancer.
Maybe, but imagine food corps adapting to produce better quality food, all organic, no added sugar, grass fed meat. It could force them to up their game.
Bashnja1 ... and the pharmaceutical ones
Mustakrakish I want to begin fasting. I weigh 220 and am 5’11. How is your fasting routine? Is it water only and how many days straight have you fast

It took me 1 year to go from 196 lbs to 178, just by trying to eat less, and now in 1 month i came down to 167 with IF 20:4. So im pretty happy with the result...
eating less works. should be done steadily but the fasting craze is because it gives fast results to the people who have no patience or will power
Real boxing Fan1 you’re a troll idiot. Eating less meals doesn’t mean eating less calories. I eat 16:8 window and hit all my macros for the day. He talks about cutting calories in his book causing slowing metabolism. Get a clue moron.
Those are actually not good results at all.
Are you exercising?
@Real boxing Fan1 ,,,,
Started intermittent fasting a week ago. Already lost 6 pounds!!👊🏻🤣👊🏻....its the way to go!!
I am in day 3 of a water fast and I've lost 6# in the last two days.
I posted a few videos about my journey with pictures, heres the most recent one I posted 2 weeks ago. th-cam.com/video/SqvBZjaEXuY/w-d-xo.html
I hope you will find the information helpful. I gave some of my tips and things I have learned with OMAD.

Tommy Huynh I'm eating one meal and I'm in plateau what to do
Dr Fung cracks me up, "if you're obese you don't need any more nutrients" 57:30. 😂 Good point, nicely said.
Lmao 😂
But having extra fat in your body means that you have nutrients?
@@carold8 being fat means your body has so much food it just places the nutrients on top your muscles and skins for safe keeping .
The good Doctor Fung broke my irrational fear of not eating!
Fasting is great and such an amazing freeing up time tool.
Love hearing that, Ramiel!
Thanks for sharing,
Mike
Hey thank you for sharing this interview!
Best thing about fasting: you can eat quite well in one big meal. It's much harder to eat (well) 3 times over a day in my opinion.
Went from 197 to 161 and FEEEL AMAZING!!!
Can’t wait to fast for 5 days!
Well done!
What did u do exactly?
Manny Quacioua what did u do exactly?
Manny Quacioua you'll go hyperglycaemic 😂
Manny how many days do you fast for at a time?
The food industry would lose billions, possibly trillions with intermittent fasting alone.
So would doctors and the drug companies.
Real boxing Fan1 if is very sustainable 😂
Real boxing Fan1 if 5% of the population incorporate I.F., they would lose billions. Don’t underestimate the politics that corporations pull behind closed doors. Why do you think bread and cheese have a major section in the food pyramid?
It might be a good thing as the world population grows the need for food and farming will need to increase dramatically so if might balance things out until the next cycle
@@carlossalaises7 I absolutely agree.
After having a baby while working two jobs, I barely had time to eat more than one meal per day. Overtime I became used to it and alot of people looked at me like I was crazy.
Son of Liberty congratulations!
You mean water fast or intermittent fast?
That's awesome!
AMAZING PRAISE GOD. WELL DONE!!
Son of Liberty sorry but i can assure you that you did not fast for 40 days nor 30 days - wake up from your dream buddy
Did u water fast?
Cheers,
Mike
Uh, i dont think waking up mid sleep is any good..

Does it work ? I mean your husband's condition does it get better ?
I always listen to Dr. Fung when doing longer fasts. Because of the mind-body connection, it seems to make the process of fasting easier for me when I’m being reminded of how much good this does for my body with the increase in HGH and autophagy.
"theres no money in fasting" doctors will say it's not healthy
I read a comment from some doctor a while ago that there should be drugs created that mimic the effects of fasting. that approach sums up big pharma.
Actually your generalization about even USA doctors is incorrect. Some of are are in the business to heal.

Except for your arteries, those were clogged with no carbohydrate to bond toxins to.

@Ayinde Mitchell
the BMR increases in lean pple maybe in the first 1-2 days (not so much in obese pple), then it starts to plummet. it goes down ~ 10-15% after 5-10 days and after 30 days to > 25%.
you start losing protein immediately - but not significantly in the first day or 2, maybe 1-3%. however after 5 days it's greater than 5%. After 10 days it's ~10%
you lose vital minerals in long fasts. that intermittent fasting replenishes

If you're really lean, then you are starving. Eat more animal fats.

@@luckycharms797 yes so long your calories out > in. I've been doing IF for 2.5 months still eating kfc and mcd. Still down 27.5 pounds.
Inspiring recount of your experience.
Unfortunately its the Food industry passing on false truths about risks of fasting. Amazingly insightful interview.
I like how many times this guy says ''stupid''. I feel him. And I would like to see how excess skin disappears over time. Because I didn't realize autophagy can make it go away. Excess skin is the one thing that freaks people out.
It's true. I've lost around 150 lbs and my skin has very little excess. It all just shrunk with the rest of me.
Jo Hunter sadly many morbidly obese people who manage to lose weight with low to zero carb diets don’t do the long fasts...and end up paying tens of thousands of dollars on skin removal surgery..wish they would have had the discipline and knowledge of fasting.
@@AyindesSeacret So how much did you fast to avoid the excess skin. I'm currently aiming for OMAD (one meal a day).
@@Butmunch666 I fast in some form or fashion everyday. The constant walking I do for my business helped with the skin.

Dead truth - "there's no money in it" - I love this, it's so true on so many levels!
I fast one to two weeks every season. It's wonderful. Really helps with my arthritis and keeps my weight way down.
I even like that by current standards he's somewhat socially inappropriate by using the word "stupid" a lot. It's refreshing. It wakes you up.
Mean what you say
Say what you mean. Only a fool follows the leader. Stupid is Stupid

Exactly, he explained it, it is very pervasive.
david graham I stopped going to Weight watchers when they told people if they exercise they need to eat more to it effect weight loss? 🤔also the women at the meeting blatantly said well Weight Watchers is a business first which means our profits come first... not your customers? 🤔

How many hours was your intermittent fast or did you fast for entire days?

@@Jefferdaughter try raw sea salt
People always say "if you miss a meal your body will think you're starving and you'll go into starvation mode & store fat"
Yes. I've heard this alot. I'm glad I learned the truth early 🤗

Ari P Its been almost a month now, and Im already used to eatong 16/8 Fasting.
Intermittent fasting is a great way to keep Glucagon up and Insulin down.
so much wrong with this.
