      You just have to get past the first step every day: getting out of bed and out of your house. Trust me, I couldn't do it at first, but over time you get used to it, and you'll be WAY happier. Plus, you sleep much better at night knowing that you got some stuff done. Also, I learned that ONLY laying in bed when you're going to sleep actually leads to much better sleep, which in turn leads to a better mood + more energy during the day. Baby steps, trust the process, and know that it gets WAY easier the more you do it.

    What helped me overcome my laziness little by little was the 1-minute challenge. I would time myself for a minute and attempt to do something (wash dishes, sweep, and even walk outside) for only a minute. You'd be surprised how much you can get done in 1 minute alone. I'd then increment the time more and more until I didn't even notice how much had passed. It's an interesting way that helped me manage and grasp time rather than waste time.

    The term ,"Laziness", can be objective too.
    I remember, before my parents divorce, my mother would often say that my father was "lazy". But as I grew and watched him I found that, my father, was one of the hardest working people I knew.
    Ironically... my father would later tell me (and others I suspect) that I was lazy... even though most people I knew called me "hard working".
    Awww.... the sins of the father are hard to cast aside. But I still loved him anyway :)*

    What do you have against laziness? As I see it, laziness is one of the driving forces of your Earthling civilization. Would you have vehicles without laziness? Remote controls? Mathematics? Printing? Pizza taxis? Microwaves? Computers?
    Sports, on the other side, pushed development of... what? Indoor rowers? Sneakers with air chambers? Yay.

    • @0dious
      @0dious 10 ปีที่แล้ว +82

      Zogg from Betelgeuse is this some kind of alien propaganda, to make us ready-for-conquer, basic-level-difficulty civilization?
      All things you mention were meant to speed up processes, so other (or more) things would be possible. Many of us are lazy, but i don't think individuals responsible for those inventions, were also lazy. Actually, they wanted to do even more. Sadly, most of us are not really shaping tomorrow. Wait, pizza taxi?
      Laziness is a driving force towards the oceans. Look how many humans in first world countries resemble small whales. If we continue this way, soon gravity will be unbearable and land locomotion will became thing of a past. Life will be naval again.
      As for sports, I get your point, but we have to remember, that without it, there would be a lot of unchanneled energy. With current social and intellectual development of our species, i would fear the consequences. Indoor rowing, and sports in general, might be irrational, but for now it spawns only minor threats. And hey, my back doesn't hurt when i run with air chambered sneakers on.

I am 29 and look 21 and it has completely transformed my life, all vices like over eating, being lazy and procrastinating, day dreaming about "success" has been replaced by productivity. Anyone who says adderall is bad, or it's just like Meth or it could be dangerous, my only response is "where is the proof?" Unlike oxycotin or other prescription drugs, when is the last time you met an adderall addict? The drug has been around for like 70 years, it's safe to say all of those news pieces about the "adderall epidemic on campus" has been an annual oped for the past 20 years.

    Maybe laziness is an evolutionary survival tactic passed down through genetics.
    Running around, hunting animals and such takes alot of energy, but maybe the somewhat lazier hominids survived because they saved up their energy and when it came time to finally use it (like having to run from a bear) they were able to survive.
    I dunno, just a theory. I had 4 beers.

      Both the sports gene and the couch potato gene probably had their advantages and disadvantages in paleolithic times.
      The couch potato gene may have been advantageous in hunting in heavily wooded regions or in fishing as this requires a lot of just sitting around and waiting.
      It also would have tended to allow it's owner to conserve energy.
      The sports gene would have been more advantageous in situations that required actively searching out things like nuts and berries or chasing prey in open areas.

      Trees are incredibly active and not at all lazy. Trees are busy growing all day and night plus photosynthesizing using sunlight and making air with Oxygen in it for us to breathe plus creating homes for animals and places for kids to climb. They're surviving long cold winters even when deer chew on them and they lose some of their essential bodily fluids such as tree sap. Plus using the hardened tree sap like a scab to cover their injury every time an animal bites them or a person cuts them or breaks off their limbs or a storm hits them. Xylem and phloem flowing up and down their bodies all day and night, working hard to get that water out of the ground using their roots all the way to the very top of their leaves and branches because you can't have healthy leaves without getting water up to them. Growing new leaves. Processing soil minerals and incorporating them into their bodies. Sending out chemical signals to attract soil bacteria to help them get Nitrogen they need from the soil. Sending out chemical signals to communicate with other nearby trees that an animal or an insect is eating them so other trees in the tree grove can increase their production of toxic chemicals to protect them all against the bugs. Working hard to produce good smelling flowers so they can be pollinated and turn into fruits. Making just the right hormones so the fruits will be ripe at the exact time that the seeds are ready to be carried somewhere far away from the parent tree to be planted by a fruit eating animal that is gonna poop them out. So that the baby trees don't die from not having enough sunlight or water, they have to be carried some distance away from the mom/dad tree, otherwise there will be too much shade and the baby trees will die. So that piece of fruit needs to taste really good for seed dispersal to happen. So as you can see trees are not lazy, they are constantly doing things. It is just a different way of being alive.

    TV and internet make it phenomenally easy to stay in rather than go out (netflix instead of a movie date, amazon instead of the mall, kindle instead of the library). For people in the suburbs, the only way to get anywhere is by car. In fact, walking or biking can be highly dangerous and difficult. For poor people, time and money constraints make eating healthy extremely taxing. Speaking of food, the virtually unlimited availability of the stuff makes it all too easy to go get that satisfying feeling of eating, whether that's going to the corner fast food joint or just reaching into your pantry for a snack. And lets not forget advertising that encourages consumption, as well as the increases in portion sizes at restaurants (a kind of spectacle creep phenomenon with everyone trying to one-up each other).
    And of course, the less healthy you are, the harder it is to change. Especially if your bad habits are culturally and filially ingrained from childhood, making a change means not only paying attention to what you eat, but changing the way you bond with loved ones, cope with hardship, and even the way you self-identify. With all of this, overcoming a natural predisposition to be lazy becomes a Stygian task.
    This is why I don't condone fat shaming. Shit's just hard to fix. If you're already healthy, it's probably hard for you to understand the difficulties of changing your lifestyle. I kinda get it if you yourself have lost a lot of weight, but not everyone's journey is like yours. Rather than picking on obese people, we should acknowledge the struggle of living in a society that demands fitness while simultaneously making it obnoxiously inconvenient to be healthy. Encouragement and understanding will go farther to make people healthier and happier, and all we'd have to give up is the smug self-superiority that comes with demeaning others.

      How the hell is walking dangerous and difficult? What one has to do to change lifestyle and be healthier is really not that much. 30 minutes of walking a day does ALOT for the body.

      There are no sidewalks out here. You either have to walk in the road or right next to it (dangerous), or go traipsing through a bunch of knee high grass, ditches, briers and shit (difficult). And everything is far away, like 2 miles to the nearest anything. Sure, if you're just walking in a neighborhood to get exercise, that's not bad, but my point is that you have to do that as a dedicated activity.
      When I lived in the city I walked everywhere because it was easier (even quicker sometimes), so I got exercise without even thinking about it. To get a similar amount of walking in the suburbs, you have to take extra time out of your day to walk in circles around your neighborhood just for the sake of walking. It's frustrating. It's not like that can't be overcome, but I'm trying to paint a picture of the large number of small pressures and incentives that make it so living healthy is not default. The changes you have to make are small, sure, but they are many, and they're all in competition with much easier, more natural feeling choices.

      I'm pretty sure that the greater statistical likelihood is due to the much greater number of people driving than walking. But now that I think about it, I don't think *perceived* danger can be discounted here. We're talking about incentives here, after all. Cars passing you at 45mph *seem* a lot more dangerous when you're not in a car yourself.

    Be careful not too confuse laziness with depression.
    Some people can move because they cant see the point of even being alive.
    They dont enjoy or even like being alive so actually getting even out of bed takes vast amounts of will power.
    I think most healthy people can have a little episode of laziness just to relax,but if they are healthy they will eventually be unable to just keep staying still.

However, I really don't like that she doesn't accept the way me and my brother are; we simply don't have the motivation or need to exercise. It gets very frustrating, because she won't understand it. I know that it's good to exercise, but I wish she would just accept it.

    • @startchiro
      @startchiro 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you're missing the point of this video. It's not that you're genetically coded to not want to do something such as exercise and eating. It goes more along the lines of if you're lazy and don't do anything about it you'll stay lazy and reap everything that goes along with it... Shorter life, unable to jog a 100 yards without being winded, getting injured more often as you age and so on. If you don't have the desire to want to change the result of any of those then that's your choice but will give your children a predisposition for those as well. All of it can be changed though through action... Your genes will change based on your activities of daily living. I challenge you to re-watch this with that mind set and then maybe you'll understand your mom's motherly concern for her children and for them to be active.

    • @imelectraxheart
      @imelectraxheart 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eric Start I understand that. What I wanted to understand was why my mom has such a need to exercise. It's not just motherly concern for us, it's more than that, trust me. She just cannot be happy if she doesn't exercise and she refuses to even try to undestand that we aren't like that. I'm not the happiest person and she thinks that my lack of exercise is the reason, while the reasons are so much different and more complicated than that.

    Very interesting! You might be interested in a book I've been reading that describes why those with more fat have lower activity level, i.e. lazy. It's a book called "The Fat Switch" and it basically says that it's not being lazy that makes one fat, it's being fat that makes you lazy. Those that have turned on the "Fat Switch" (*like many organisms in nature storing fat in preparation for winter), makes that organism produce less ATP (as that energy is going into storing more fat), which makes one lazy, allowing one to not burn off that fat the body is accumulating. This is good for times of famine, but not so good for us as we have an overabundance of food. :) I highly recommend the book and maybe it'll give you an idea for a future video. Thanks, AsapSCIENCE!

      mareeyo1 Well, if I remember correctly, when you sleep, your body paralyzes itself so that you don't physically enact your dreams and potentially hurt yourself. Sometimes our bodies neglect to turn off the paralysis. There are some disorders where too much of whatever paralysis inducing chemical is released and it takes longer to wear off. There are also disorders with the opposite problem where too little or no paralysis inducing chemical is released. These people act out whatever their dream is and often sleep walk/talk.

      I have no clue what these kids are telling you here, but the reason the "reward system" doesnt apply to your PE class in school or wherever, is because you are NOT doing it for a reward. You are merely in your PE class as a curriculum of school, a required class, and therefore you treat it with as much hate as the hate towards other classes. IF you worked out regularly for a self-reward like say "lose weight goal", then you will feel rewarded having done so, but to do something forcefully is not going to make you feel any better, mentally or psychologically, although it can help physically.

    • @AhidoMikaro
      @AhidoMikaro 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      copjing robbbyyy25
      When physical actives are for you, you hate them. If they are not, you wouldn't be hating them. You would find them annoying at most. And you do get rewards. When you do them properly you get stronger, faster, etc. And that does feel good, even if you are the biggest nerd on the planet. It pays off and you can clearly see it. It's simple rewarding.
      Also there is very rarely a kid that doesn't love PE the most during elementary grade. Until/during that age kids are very active, so they are good at being active. Eventually some stop being as active as before, so it gets harder for them to do it, they are bad at it now. And then you see them just sitting somewhere during PE, while everyone else is enjoying themselves. That happens especially to girls, since until a certain age they love to play just like the boys do, but then suddenly playing with the boys and/or like them stops being something that a girl does, so they don't do it, get bad. Even most teachers agree with this by saying how normal is for girl to not do any physical actives and so they give them good grades, without wanting anything in return.
      It's a combination of mindset and what you do because of it. And when you do (not do) something, there are consequence, results. And these results get out even more in this mindset. For example: "Playing video games all day is a lot more fun that playing football." -> you get better at playing videos games, worse and worse at playing football -> "Video games are tons of fun (and have a lots people to play them with). Football is stupid."
