I am a small used car dealer. I passed out 25 business cards to people holding signs saying ANYTHING HELPS and told them to call me tomorrow and I would put them to work. Not one person called. I no longer give money to beggars.
As a 34yo man who has been homeless 3x growing up even living in a car, faced foreclosure 2x, I'd NEVER give money to another man. There's too many jobs and opportunities out there, been there myself so this opinion comes from experience.
Thank you for speaking up on this. I know a guy who works at Dennys in the state of Indiana who lives behind the store in his tent trying to save up money to find a better house.

That won’t always work. Where I live and work, there was a man who panhandled nearby, and he was offered a job by the manager of a nearby wireless store. The manager told the man all he had to do was sweep the front walkway of the store, and he would not ask him to do anything else. The panhandler turned down the offer, saying he got more money by panhandling. That’s honestly why these people do it. That, and because unlike working they don’t have to pay taxes.

Ive met ppl who do this,as part of a very organized scam. The " boss" picks them up and distributes them along the highway exits,then takes his cut at the end of the day. Homeless,so get pregnant. Thats an excellent,mature, responsible decision.

Amazon is always hiring and they start at $17.50 an hour with full medical benefits. They'll even let you park your vehicle in their huge parking lots. They don't offer showers, but will make arrangements in certain instances.
Yesterday a guy walked up to me at the gas station and asked for $4 so he could call an Uber to get to a job interview. I gave him the $4 (he offered to wash my windows but I declined) and when I left the gas station I seen him walking into a Taco Bell. On one hand I like helping people, on the other I hate being lied to.

They’re well aware that jobs are out there, but in many cases they get more money by panhandling, so that’s what they will continue to do until the well runs dry, so to speak.
It’s simple, you give it don’t, I choose not to. In my town you’ll see the same homeless people & you’ll see some of things they do to gain more sympathy. We have plenty of hiring agencies, if someone wants a job they can truly find one.

I tried pan handling one time, asking for money to get Propane gas with no-one wanting to help and I live off social security and what tiny amount of food stamps the government wants to give me, have also had to go to food banks and beg for help, no one seems to care about the actually truly poor people anymore cause these scammers driving away in good vehicles or maybe own fancy homes. I got myself and two dogs to feed, yet no-one acts like they care about the poor cause of these scammers. We poor people get treated like criminals cause of the actual criminals out there doing these schemes, it's not right or fair to the actually truly poor people. I have been out of Propane like five years now, been cooking on hotplates, bought a water kettle and microwave, just to cook with or heat water, I have no inside water, so I have to go collect water from a spout or wash dishes outside and no money to get new pipes put in the house. Social security doesn't give me enough money to fix the house or move away. Electric so old that it has a asphalt or vinyl coated fabric jacket and no money to replace it. I also checked in on seeing about getting natural gas and was told it would cost $1500, that is two social security checks plus part of a third one. I love propane, I love it because I am paying one price unlike natural gas where you have to pay every month and propane you don't have to pay monthly, cause I am on social security, you never know if you have money to pay your monthly bills especially when they are extremely high, I used two electric heaters for winter last year cause after that incident of overloading the power and almost causing a fire in other than the outlet, could of burned the house down cause of having to use electric heaters, I can't have more than two electric heaters and two will not heat the home and it cost almost $200 on my electric bill and with price increases everywhere, I will have to pay alot more this year, maybe $300 or more. Poor people like myself can't make it and it's like the system is rigged against poor people especially when you got scammers and schemers making it hard on poor people. There is too much paperwork for the truly poor to get food stamps and for what, just $20, pathetic, people have messed things up for the truly poor person. SAD, VERY VERY SAD! JUST TERRIBLE HOW THINGS GOT FOR THE TRULY POOR WHO ARE NOT SCAMMERS!
Some panhandlers are fake (they're not even homeless). Some will actually get *aggressive* if you don't give them enough money. Some are legit though. If you feel generous, just give them food.

The fact is it is not lying or fraud for a panhandler to get money by simply having a person hand them money. They never communicate whether they are rich or poor or even are desperate. Unless they communicate something like I need money for food or clothes because I am poor they are not lying. Most people do not interrogate them they just hand money over.

I know people are down and out. And we don't know their stories. But a lot of the panhandlers can get jobs there healthy men and women. In my town of Indiana. So I tell them you're strong and you're healthy I don't mind I'll buy you something to eat but come to my job I'll get you a job. And I can. This just my opinion now if I got in a situation like that I would spend from 9-5 looking for a job walking and if it got to the point where I could no longer afford cell phone that allows me to look for a job online I will be at the library on their computer. After I finish my day of job hunting I would then result to asking for money on the streets. I remember when I was a teenager and my aunt wasnt buying food I would go to soup kitchens and eat. I mean all those hours being invested on a corner asking for money could be time spent job hunting. I know some people have criminal records but you cant afford to pick and choose what you want to do when you have kids. What about food stamps. I think that would be a good time to apply if you lost your job so it can atleast help you eat until you find work and then when you get a job you dont need the food stamps no more. I'm just saying does anyone else see where I'm coming from?

I refuse to open my wallet to anyone on the side of the road. That is a safety issues. Donating to churches and pantries are the best way to make sure people get help.

I've worked with lazy coworkers who quit after 1 or 2 days because they can make more off the streets from begging! I've also encountered a constant & perstant begger once leave in an expensive SUV when I threatened to call police! I was driving a little Chevy Cavalier. I should have been the one begging. Panhandlelers are a very big problem. There are making it hard on the people who are actually down on their luck.
It should be illegal to pan handle in every city. I see them off the freeway and I’ve seen it cause accidents. I agree to help one another in need and to give to charity. I give money and help people but give to Charitable events. And donations. I don't like doing it. It is actually humiliating. And the first time you do it, there is actually fear. There are lots of scammers. Lots of people who have been going to the same corner and calling it theirs. I have worked and panhandle at the same time because my new job wouldn't get me my first check for 2 weeks. In that situation I woke up very very early to get on a good spot. Made what I needed for the day or next, and went to work. Because of scammers and because of news going around telling everyone not to give, some days were worthless. But some were good and worth the humiliation. Just pray you never have to be in that situation, literally in fear because you don't have even a dollar. Because of all the speculation, the police looking your way, and all the Karen's, it's humiliating and scary. It shouldn't be like that. I'm practicing my first amendment right. No American should tell someone they can't hold a sign with words on it. So yeah, I still do it when I need to. Just because you're not brave enough to face the heat so you can pay your bills, doesn't mean I can't. I'll go get help immediately and quickly rather than some nice words from some homeless help center that takes most of its donations and pays their own employees with it. That's insane. Donating to some homeless coalition is nuts. I've been to them. Most can't even provide shelter for months. All the money you donate to these places...most doesn't make it to anyone in need. It goes to all paper pushers and workers...operating costs. Those signs on corners that say don't give to panhandlers, they are evil, criminal even. The homeless coalitions lobby local governments to put them up. Using your donation money and tax money to pay for signs that tell people not to give to someone in need. Rather give it to them, to some local nonsense help center that has never provided me with anything useful. If you see a panhandler and don't want to give away your money, THEN DONT. What is so hard about that. Their sign saying please help bothers you so much you just want it to go away. Too bad, it's my right. Saying otherwise is straight up un-American.
These people never heard of social services. They provide temporary shelter, free food, free bus passes, free clothing, and job leads. But some people are just too ashamed to accept help from the state/city. They think they are "earning money" by panhandling. That's not a job! Get a job sweeping floors or putting trash away... I was homeless and pregnant. Its really hard. It was all about my now husband and I getting money to survive. We barely got enough money to survive day to day and if we were lucky we could get a hotel room.
One of my family members told us that a couple years ago she was homeless and even had her baby in the streets. She didn't ask us for help because she was embarrassed. I've never been homeless but it does not look like a good situation to be with. It's why I sometimes spare a couple of dollars to people. You never know when they actually do need it.

Why can he not work?
I know people are down and out. And we don't know their stories. But a lot of the panhandlers can get jobs there healthy men and women. In my town of Indiana. So I tell them you're strong and you're healthy I don't mind I'll buy you something to eat but come to my job I'll get you a job. And I can. My family member said I can't believe you just said that I said no I'll buy him a burger but they want to work out get him a job they did not want to talk to me. God Bless the people that do need the money.
This just my opinion now if I got in a situation like that I would spend from 9-5 looking for a job walking and if it got to the point where I could no longer afford cell phone that allows me to look for a job online I will be at the library on their computer. After I finish my day of job hunting I would then result to asking for money on the streets. I remember when I was a teenager and my aunt wasnt buying food I would go to soup kitchens and eat. I mean all those hours being invested on a corner asking for money could be time spent job hunting. I know some people have criminal records but you cant afford to pick and choose what you want to do when you have kids. What about food stamps. I think that would be a good time to apply if you lost your job so it can atleast help you eat until you find work and then when you get a job you dont need the food stamps no more. I'm just saying does anyone else see where I'm coming from?
So because a couple of these people made bad choices(committing crimes/career criminals) to where they cannot be hired, we have to pay their way? I don't think so.
I refuse to open my wallet to anyone on the side of the road. That is a safety issues. Donating to churches and pantries are the best way to make sure people get help.
I just read that panhandlers are required to pay taxes since the IRS looks at it as an occupation. Does anyone know where these moochers can be reported?

I've worked with lazy coworkers who quit after 1 or 2 days because they can make more off the streets from begging! I've also encountered a constant & perstant begger once leave in an expensive SUV when I threatened to call police! I was driving a little Chevy Cavalier. I should have been the one begging. Panhandlelers are a very big problem. There are making it hard on the people who are actually down on their luck.
It should be illegal to pan handle in every city. I see them off the freeway and I’ve seen it cause accidents. I agree to help one another in need and to give to charity. I give money and help people but give to Charitable events. And donations. But again a lot of scams and it should not be allowed near freeways, streets, and roads, because it can cause traffic accidents and it does
I always feel guilt .. thats hard so i always give at least a dollar.. dang the panhandlers for irritating our inner good & yet we want to help! Scammers be out there yes, they deny the truly needs of those whom truly need getting real help..

I don't like doing it. It is actually humiliating. And the first time you do it, there is actually fear. There are lots of scammers. Lots of people who have been going to the same corner and calling it theirs. I have worked and panhandle at the same time because my new job wouldn't get me my first check for 2 weeks. In that situation I woke up very very early to get on a good spot. Made what I needed for the day or next, and went to work. Because of scammers and because of news going around telling everyone not to give, some days were worthless. But some were good and worth the humiliation. Just pray you never have to be in that situation, literally in fear because you don't have even a dollar. Because of all the speculation, the police looking your way, and all the Karen's, it's humiliating and scary. It shouldn't be like that. I'm practicing my first amendment right. No American should tell someone they can't hold a sign with words on it. So yeah, I still do it when I need to. Just because you're not brave enough to face the heat so you can pay your bills, doesn't mean I can't. I'll go get help immediately and quickly rather than some nice words from some homeless help center that takes most of its donations and pays their own employees with it. That's insane. Donating to some homeless coalition is nuts. I've been to them. Most can't even provide shelter for months. All the money you donate to these places...most doesn't make it to anyone in need. It goes to all paper pushers and workers...operating costs. Those signs on corners that say don't give to panhandlers, they are evil, criminal even. The homeless coalitions lobby local governments to put them up. Using your donation money and tax money to pay for signs that tell people not to give to someone in need. Rather give it to them, to some local nonsense help center that has never provided me with anything useful. If you see a panhandler and don't want to give away your money, THEN DONT. What is so hard about that. Their sign saying please help bothers you so much you just want it to go away. Too bad, it's my right. Saying otherwise is straight up un-American.

These people never heard of social services.
They provide temporary shelter, free food, free bus passes, free clothing, and job leads.
But some people are just too ashamed to accept help from the state/city.
They think they are "earning money" by panhandling. That's not a job! Get a job sweeping floors or putting trash away... ANYTHING!
When are you going to hire them then?

I was homeless and pregnant. Its really hard. It was all about my now husband and I getting money to survive. We barely got enough money to survive day to day and if we were lucky we could get a hotel room.
One of my family members told us that a couple years ago she was homeless and even had her baby in the streets. She didn't ask us for help because she was embarrassed. I've never been homeless but it does not look like a good situation to be with. It's why I sometimes spare a couple of dollars to people. You never know when they actually do need it.
If he was able bodied he can earn money, people will give him work. The question is will he be sober or not. That is his decision
