I know a guy who exploits peoples kindness in this same manner. He panhandles at intersections/round a bouts near Indian casinos. He has bought electric bicycle, electric car, and a new Indian motorcycle. Good people have empathy and are emotionally gullible to this.
Problem with panhandlers are you don’t know if that person is homeless or not. You don’t know if they’re honest or using the money for drugs alcohol or using it for food and shelter
@@kidclassic1534 How about you can give from your precious little holy-than-thou heart all you want. Empty your bank account even since you're so generous and better than everyone. But stop telling other people what to fucking do
To a lot of people it's much less awkward asking strangers for money than it is asking family, because if a stranger is mean to you it's like you'll never see them again, but you don't want to annoy, or have someone you see at Thanksgiving every year think your being inappropriate!
It is easy to say housing is the answer but for more then half of the homeless in America they are not eligible for the housing because of their legal history and jobs are hard to get if you have a felony so all that is left is panhandling
I have felony convictions from years ago. I served over 11 years in prison. Now I work everyday and I've held some decent jobs. I also own my own house. Life is all what you make of it.
A lot of people hire ex felons to do dirty work like manufacturing for near minimum wage, and you do get felony expunged after 8 years. It's the opportunity cost of making more money panhandling compared to that is the problem
I once knew a Gentleman in Adelaide, (South Australia) who every morning (Monday to Friday) went into the city and begged for two dollars for Coffee. After three hundred people had each donated him two dollars, he took his six hundred dollars and went home. On every Friday afternoon he would take his three thousand dollars in two dollar coins into his bank and deposit his money into his bank account. Thus he made in one week of casual ‘employment’ more money than I made in a fortnight as a full time employee of the Australian Commonwealth Government.
I see panhandlers at Walmart all the time but I never give them money for obvious reasons. One thing that pissed me off is seeing this guy sitting up on a rock holding his sign and eating out of a pizza box. Next day he wasn't there but that box sure was. That's not the kind of person who deserves free money.
I live in Spokane Washington and there’s a huge homeless camp here with more than 600 people. They don’t want to work and nearby homes and businesses are broken into on a regular basis and they interfere with Police business. The Department of Commerce has given Catholic Charities $6.5 million dollars to renovate an old hotel to house some of the homeless where they will get 3 free meals a day to boot. Many people in Spokane are angry including me. Absolutely insane!
The last city I lived in had a law banning pan handling because of public safety concerns. I do feel bad though. not a lot is being done for homeless people in this country.
@@rocpet3theres plenty being done for homeless people. I feel like the seniors(65 years old and up), veterans, physically disabled and families (mom dad and child or baby) should be prioritized for housing.
Yeah in Oklahoma City Oklahoma you're supposed to have a permit in other words go down to the city and pay them about $25 only the cops say they've got too many other things to take care of instead of checking to see if you have a permit
You are right I told some police officers and judges this(the USA supreme court cases and article 6 section 2 of the constitution)and they say it didn't matter because of a city ordinance...I wonder what law college accredited these people
In Tampa the homeless coalition does 0 to help the homeless but those in charge of the homeless coalition drive new exotic cars have beach front homes and have toys that cost more than the average home. RACQUET!

I was listening to her response. A home does not solve homelessness or hunger. Many with a subsidized room or home still are at risk of hunger or on the verge of homelessness. There are no simple answers and anyone who think it is as simple and clear as they state it, is out of touch.
I remember visting my sister in PA with my family and my best friend, my parents went up to their hotel room while my best friend and I, who were both about 18yrs old at the time, spent time in the restaurant area, and a extremely well dressed gentleman saw us and came in telling us that he was on a date and he literally ran out of gas money and how embarrassed he was. Ignorantly, I gave this man $10 and my best friend gave him $20. The next day, my friend and I told my parents and sister what happened, and they said we both got scammed. Looking back, I realize it now
I mean it could be true what evidence would go to show it’s a scam. Just because you have a suit on doesn’t mean he’s rich and didn’t forget his wallet. Idk why someone would even find it lucrative to wear a suit and try to defraud people for 30 bucks. It’s plausible.
Iam a trucker ,today I seen the Hatiens have learned how to panhandle in the Phoenix, Ariz area. Have not been here a month and begging. They are not going to work. The govr gave Thema place to live So the government creates another problem
A couple of years ago San Francisco, was donated 30 Million. By an anonymous donor, I read in my local paper. To help, house the homeless. The paper said, I quote. They would use the money to STUDY,HOW THEY BECAME HOMELESS. UNQUOTE. No lie. I thought that cash, we'll go to the top people as perks.🙄
On SSI and disabled, I live on $800 a month. I have an apartment but am forced to panhandle to make things work. The money goes to bills. I don't smoke, drink, or do drugs.
I ran from a court case back in the mid 2000’s. I became a drifter, I had over 300$ in a week and made it from phoenix az to Hartford Connecticut. I then made it to Texas then to Louisiana. I had 2200$ by now in change and cash. I just walked around Louisiana getting drunk and partying. Slept on the side of the highway. Put plastic down, then cardboard, a jail like blanket, then my blanket and pillow. I then was asked to if I wanted a job for a week painting barns. Sure! They got me a cheap motel room and bought me cigarettes and beer, food and a small fee for the day. I did that for a month. I then left and went into the oilfield, no questions asked, they didn’t care about what you did on your time. Just be ready to work. I did that for 3 years. Made 210$ a day and was fed, clothed and housed. Obama became president and homeland security took over the ports. I was soon arrested by the us marshals and brought back to AZ. I ended up doing 4 months in tent city. Man! I had a freaking blast on the run.
I knew a guy who was a professional bum. This guy straight up said he wasn't going to work. The reason was his ex wife was going to get him for child support payments.
Occasionally I see a panhandler right outside the Walmart I shop at. Just saw one today. And my husband and I had one come up to our car at a Wendy’s drive through of all places. I mean, these places are always hiring and a lot of them are offering a daily pay option. We never give these people money anymore. If it’s more lucrative to panhandle than work a job then somethings wrong.
I see them all the time standing in front of Walmart in Chillicothe Ohio. I had one trying to bum money off of me at Krispy Kreme donut shop in Chillicothe. He said he needed money to get something to eat and I just gave him a donut. I'll give a food item but I won't give any money.

I work at Walmart and there's always panhandler's nearby. When me and my coworkers tell them we're hiring and offer a reference, they flip us off. These people dont want to work unless they have a "Need work" sign. And thats a rarity.

I feel most people in the US are pretty hard workers, these people are just ridiculous if they think going three years without a job is acceptable. Especially over the last seven or eight years where many cities can’t find enough employees and pay well above minimum wage. For many it is a choice and I feel the percentage is much higher than most want to believe.

@@sanchezs7614 Exactly, I used to be involved in charity work for the homeless as well and still do work with people actively looking for work and getting the help to get there. I’m happy to help anyone who’s willing to help themselves but it’s shocking how many people purely want the handout and that’s it, they turn their nose up at any prospects of employment and responsibility. It’s why I still try to help anyone who’s actually trying because they are trying to lift themselves up and to me it doesn’t matter how you got there I respect the fact they’ve decided it’s time for change. I work with someone who used to be homeless and they told me the hardest part about getting clean and back on their feet was that there were so many programs that catered to them that they didn’t need to change. They said there’s an abundance of help and programs if you’re truly looking but when you can get free food, clothing, tents and sleeping bags, phones and monetary assistance that the necessity to change just isn’t there so the desire to wanes as well. Even though I’ve worked in that area for years it was shocking to hear it from someone who lived it.
Nowadays there are some people who think that working hard is considered overrated. With that mentality it’s no wonder why those people think that society owes them something in return.
There is no housing for men...no one does hotel voucher anymore.the only one making money is the lady behind the desk .ask her what she makes a year, from people's donations. That's why those organizations want to give to them.they keep most of the money.why do you think people hold signs.there really isn't help that maters.

@Adventures of Mia Wallace 🤣 i'm kinda starting to like you the more i see your comments 👍 Most of these ignorant people have never truly been on the bottom or lived 2 seconds of the lives that some of these other people deal with every day.... but they are still the loudest and the first to cast stones. 🤦♂️ Talk about pathetic.
Well, i just found my new job. Wow! $80.00 for 2 hours standing on the street. Since i don't have a drug habit nor do i drink or smoke i should be setting pretty by the end of the week. Lets see 80 x's 5 is 400 a week. So $1,200.00 a month. Yeah why work weekends if you don't have to. Ha ha I'm kidding but WOW! Where can I go and do this. I will wear a hat and shades and a mask if it gets me $80.00 a day for 2 short hours. Can i say I'm self employed and take off hat shoes and markers and signs and clothing as a uniform business expense? Just wondering.. That's my only overhead.. Clothing shoes hat marker and sign. What about water bottles or canteens? Might have to look into this. Lucrative business like on John Wick.
Panhandling is the only way to be able to stay in a motel if you are homeless. It's impossible to sleep in shelters since the drug addicts talk all night. Plus, most shelters have bed bugs and lice infestations, and it's really easy to catch diseases like Mersa and TB in those places. People with pets can't go to shelters, and families get split up if they go to a family shelter, since only women and little ones are allowed in those shelters. Husband's, grandparents and children over 18 aren't allowed in. Half of all panhandlers don't want to sleep outside because it can be dangerous. They beg so they can buy a room for the night.
See my problem with panhandlers is you don't know if you can trust them. In both areas I've worked I see panhandlers begging for money, most of which are returnees. I want to believe they aren't actually homeless, but doing it because its easier to beg for money on the street then it is to get a job. As a delivery driver in my area that also lives in the area, I see one particular person always on the street asking for money and seen them walk back and forth. I can't say for certain they are homeless, I believe they live nearby and are just trying to avoid getting an actual job, but again like they say, you don't know. I agree that we should help people on the streets, but this isn't the right way. The best way is to give to supplies and donations to shelters that need them period. If you see a homeless person not begging and is carrying everything with them, by all means don't hesitate to give them something. It's more so that we live in a day and age where "trust" is a big problem and you don't know how honest the person is with a sign truly is.

The other year Oakland California spent over $72 million on talking about homelessness, paying subcontractors to write about homelessness and in the end, no homeless people received any benefits and the state stepped with trustee state prisoners and "cleaned" up the homeless camps. Meanwhile the real estate speculation was brutally ended when the virus closed down Oakland and the even the Oakland Raiders moved out...the skyscrapers are mostly empty, grocery stores and big box merchants left, the military bases were closed, schools are closing, teachers are on strike every year, the police have only 10 police officer to patrol over a million people.., now in comparison across the bay in San Francisco, the city smells like urine, feces and irony, cars windows being smashed, businesses robbed, shoplifters running in massive groups Back to Oakland, I like saying based on what I witness, this is the city where technology and drama come to die, Borders is gone, Bed, Bath & Beyond is gone. At night, there is nowhere for any tourist to eat nor to shop for groceries The city of dreams is now the city of blight and economic collapse, persecution for the homeless is not conducive to economic growth, that is how blight starts when the economy gets tight, and working capital land are gone.....
A lot of these people have mental health issues and addictions and forcing them to have payees for their ssi checks certainly doesn't help reduce the panhandling problem, now they're really mad they can't buy what they want and getting more aggressive, our government never does anything right!
I was a wheelchair bound homeless person. It's hard to buy things you need without money. Bur fare cost money. I was too proud to ask for help but I'm over that. The problem is drugs. Almost all are dependent. We need better drug rehabs. In the mean time instead of money ask them what items they need. Backpacks are a necessity on the streets. Please help, but in a responsible way. Thank you
Don't really work like that in the real world,,,my productivity in the economy and the amount of money in my possession from such work is like a feather balanced against a boulder
If this is honest journalism over $80 in 2 hours is better than what I have mostly gotten...I'll be lucky to see a few dollars in the time you stood out there,,, people form tons of unjustified prejudice when they see me
I used to keep a stack of $1 bills in my glove compartment and each time I passed a panhandler I'd give him/her a dollar. Here in the Pacific Northwest, I was handing out a LOT of $1's. I used to just think of it as a road toll and it didn't bother me a single bit....... Until, I got chased down in my car from a panhandler because I didn't give him ENOUGH money! Chased me through stop-n-go traffic for blocks until I could get away. Never again. That was the last time I've given to a panhandler.
Or not homeless, there's countless possibilities of why someone may have a home and still be hungry, broke after paying bills, parents don't give them any money and can't get anyone to hire them no matter how hard they try.
Same person, same place. You see a collapsible wagon, a folding chair close by. They're running a route and collecting. One reason I turn my head most times.
Im American and 69 years old. I weld as my trade of profession. I was ran up to at a Trader Joes by a young woman of about 33 or so. She asked me to buy her groceries. I told her that it looked as if the teaching. That begging was for those who can not work due to physical injury or sickness. Of which she wasnt able to claim. She was in great health. Plus she ran up to me. So i told her that she cane to this country to work and live. That American people work for thiers . American people dont beg for food. They work for everything they own. Its a sin by Gods laws I will help those i see truly need but those who are perfectly able are not getting my sympathy. God bless us all. Jesus Christ is Lord Amen
There is a reason for skepticism about those who ask. There are programs that make an effort to help and that should be the first option folks consider when they are considering helping those who are asking.
Those programs are frauds. Its activists and politicians trying to grow their budgets. Doubt that? Name one city that has fewer bums after spending millions of dollars. In Denver, the city Homeless coordinator is paid over $300K/year. Do you think he wants to end/reduce homelessness? His retirement pension will be $300/year. no way he endangers that pension. BTW, Denver "homelessness" is up 25% in 2022.
Knew a guy back in the 90's who did this for a living. He would make $10-20k in November/December alone. Not to mention the bags upon bags of groceries.
After Learning that a panhandler was using the money to buy Lotto Tickets it killed giving for me . I don't help anyone out anymore. I'll buy em a meal and that's about it . SMH 🙄🙄

🚨 when I was an alcoholic I would panhandle and go buy more alcohol. Sometimes giving to a panhandler is more of a downfall then helping. I'm no longer an alcoholic. Some panhandlers just use the money for drugs
Every day I see the same people in the same places begging for money. I don't give to them because I have seen people leave the corner and go get into a better car than I drive. There are too many scammers getting in on panhandling. Unfortunately you can't tell who is a scammer and who actually needs help.
Let’s hear Grandma’s side of the story I bet she would say they’ve stolen my stuff, dumped their 3 kids on me to support and spend all their panhandling money on drugs. Total losers!
I used to give $ here and there to panhandlers. I also used to feed wildlife. Sometimes what feels compassionate is actually reinforcing unhealthy behavior.
40 bucks is 40 bucks. The tax part is irrelevant. You cant just make an extra 20 dollars appear......that's like saying you can make 10 out of 8 + 5......which is 13.....so...not 10.
@@ER-uy7ct It's not irrelevant. If I get paid %100 by my employer, 30% comes off the top for taxes. So I only actually see $70. If you give a homeless person $100, they actually get $100. It's not debatable. You can't disagree with it. Math doesn't care about your feelings.
I went undercover in my community 10 years ago just to see how much the panhandlers in my community were making. I made between $80-$120 PER HOUR! I gave the money back after counting it as some people gave wads of money. The sign I held up said, “ I work for a living, I am not a drug addict, I am not a alcoholic, I don’t beg. Please don’t give to those who do. Their are other ways of helping.” PEOPLE NEVER READ THE SIGN. They just kept handing over money. I know all the panhandlers in my community. All are there on the same corner I was under false pretenses. Except one. She was the working poor and a single mother. Still so many ways to get help without panhandling.
Just remember the money they get is tax free. I would rather give out pamphlet information on places they can go to get help.. why give a fish when they can learn how to fish..
Never give panhandlers money - they should be going to agencies that help people it’s safer - there are people out there who are not in need - we should be helping the agencies that help people. Panhandling should be illegal- some time the money just goes to get themselves more drugs
The problem with donating to non-profit organizations is the high salaries of the officers holding top management positions within those organizations. Most of the money go to pay the high salaries/administrative expenses and only a small portion are actually being used to help the needy in the community. Churches are classical examples as most of the money received from their donors are being used to pay the pastors’ salaries. A large percentage is also being used to pay the salaries of other church employees and to maintain church buildings.
There is something deeper going on when your kids can stay with Grandma but you are not allowed to. I know if my grandkids ever have to move in with me their momma and daddy movingly in too. I'm not taking care of my grandkids by myself.
Y'all tell college kids that socialism never works... Only capitalism and freedom is the answer ... Until it's about homelessness... Then socialism is the only answer. But the homeless non profits don't ever solve the problem. They are part of the problem. You could give them billions more and they wouldn't put themselves out of work.
If you really want to help homeless people and have the ability to offer them a job, that is essential. You can't just go give everybody a free apartment. I used to work rehabbing the section 8 apartments. Some of them they move in and out in a few months and totally wreck the place.

Panhandling pays $40/hr? Let me know where this is because I was unaware of that. Either way I wouldn't resort to that because I have a few things I admire...Self respect, pride and a willingness to give back to society. I EARN my money sir.
Go to any charity and ask them for a hundred dollars to do whatever u choose 2 do with it. U know what none that I know of gives the poor cash, they want it all for themselves. In fact every charity spends more money on themselves, on payroll, they pay themselves well at the same time thier poor client's remain in poverty ,deep poverty do to every charity .
When you give to a charity that cash goes payroll, bills, expenses, maintenance, gas, transportation and what cash is given to the poor and homeless. Don't give to a charity give your money to a poor person that really needs it,and then you've done something u know is right.
I make about 40 a day for 8 or 9 hours. I'm not aggressive at all. I don't go up to people's car windows because I know I hated that before I became homeless. It's hard. People throw rocks at you and homeless people have been stabbed every year sleeping on the train
There's a whole crew of these guys at the intersection where they stay at nearby motels/ hotels they're not hurting for money or food. They go out in rotations
Panhandling is NOT a crime, it's first amendment protected free speech. Seeking a charitable appeal for funds. It may be a city ordinance, but the constitution says it's protected free speech. You should tell the guy that's been arrested to get a civil rights attorney and sue under 18- USC 242, deprivation of rights.
You are right and a lot of these police officers/"law enforcement" don't know the law because this is a pay check to them and they get to harass people and people on the higher end who know this are directing these street officers to break the law because they personally don't like it or certain communities don't like it...they throw away the law when it is not supporting agendas but when they are right law and order they cry
London is the place where a panhandler could make 3x more than the prime minister gets annually, which is roughly $180k per annum. Some accept Buymeacoffee, PayPal, even Patreon, some have card machines and accept Amex which tourists are willing to give. A Korean couple recently given £100 to a Falklands war veteran who my dad served with in the same conflict who “pro panned” at Paddington Station since discharge in 1983.

Well I have a felony myself and I working as a normal person.

They should help the hard working low income families so they don’t become homeless. The homeless are a lost case. Prevention is the key
Don't be mad at the people, be mad at the system.
Panhandling is not a crime anywhere in the USA it is first amendment protected
The last city I lived in had a law banning pan handling because of public safety concerns. I do feel bad though. not a lot is being done for homeless people in this country.
@@rocpet3theres plenty being done for homeless people. I feel like the seniors(65 years old and up), veterans, physically disabled and families (mom dad and child or baby) should be prioritized for housing.

I had 2200$ by now in change and cash. I just walked around Louisiana getting drunk and partying. Slept on the side of the highway.

Each panhandler his their own reason for being out there. Alcohol and drugs put most of them out there and they gonna get high before they get a room.
Also, many homeless shelters are cults.
It's more so that we live in a day and age where "trust" is a big problem and you don't know how honest the person is with a sign truly is.
sometimes, the shelters are not the safest places for a homelesss person.

Why be a sucker and get a REAL job!
@@R.Oates7902 It’s all about morals.
Just remember the money they get is tax free. I would rather give out pamphlet information on places they can go to get help.. why give a fish when they can learn how to fish..
I never donate money to anyone, not to bums and not to the homeless coalition who is stealing the money from the bums.

Man got all day to help himself get a job
There is something deeper going on when your kids can stay with Grandma but you are not allowed to. I know if my grandkids ever have to move in with me their momma and daddy movingly in too. I'm not taking care of my grandkids by myself.
Y'all tell college kids that socialism never works... Only capitalism and freedom is the answer ...
Until it's about homelessness...
Then socialism is the only answer.
But the homeless non profits don't ever solve the problem. They are part of the problem.
You could give them billions more and they wouldn't put themselves out of work.
Jobs and housing stops homelessness. Donation to these organizations goes to pay their wages and very little goes to help anyone!
If you really want to help homeless people and have the ability to offer them a job, that is essential. You can't just go give everybody a free apartment. I used to work rehabbing the section 8 apartments. Some of them they move in and out in a few months and totally wreck the place.
This is me this week..why because I apply for a job .. and got a no go.. I didn't get hired and now this is the only solution to pay my rent.. this is new me.. im so interested in this position but no go.. for the job .. apply for a service in..
Connect them to services lmao like jobs that pay 14 dollars an hour why would they give up panhandling at 40 an hour
Panhandling pays $40/hr? Let me know where this is because I was unaware of that. Either way I wouldn't resort to that because I have a few things I admire...Self respect, pride and a willingness to give back to society. I EARN my money sir.
Keep helping the homeless
That one guy is panhandling yet can afford drugs.
I need help! My boss won't let me have light duty! So now my family and I are moneyless!
I wonder what law college accredited these "law enforcement" representatives
Guy in the orange shirt has nicer shoes than I do and I make 90k a year...
