None of these people need money, they can get a job, and there are plenty of programs in the city that help people, don’t give money to any “homeless” person, you only add to the problem by giving them money.
One time I tried to give someone food I literally bought and they got pissed off and wanted money.

I remember one woman walked up to me when I came out of a Chipotle in the parking lot and she asked me if I had a few dollars to spare. I kindly said no. She replied, "So you don't care that my kids go hungry?" I respond with, "Well clearly you don't care because you won't even work a regular job and didn't prepare to have kids properly." She didn't know what to say and walked away. She walked to the other side of the parking lot and got into her Hyundai Palisade. A 40,000 more expensive car then I had. I pulled up to her said she should sell the car if she really cared about her kids and she gave me the finger. WTF is wrong with these entitled lazy brat people.

Many of these people are lying. I can recall a few years back when my church had cleared property to expanded for an activity center. We were cutting up the scrap wood after the loggers had finished, I had my two sons helping me because we were cutting up the wood and delivering it to the elderly members so they can have firewood. I saw a 6 guys holding signs claiming they’re homeless so as I pulled up I told them I need a few hands to help cut and haul firewood, I told them I’d feed them lunch and dinner and pay them $50 a piece. Only one of them stepped up and he did a good, I kept my word and fed him lunch and dinner and I gave him $100 instead. He thanked me and he said he wanted a job and I helped him find a job one of my fellow members at the church owns a concrete finishing company and hired him. He’s doing good and has gotten back on his feet.

Went to Walmart with my dad and saw a older man looking a little scruffy we both gave him 20$ each cause we literally thought he probably really needed it. We went to Arby’s and bought him a gift card so he could eat. As we were leaving we saw him walking up to a brand new Honda with Maryland plates we approached him to give him the gift card to get food he had like 5 or 6 Walmart bags filled with cash we were shocked. When he saw us he tried to quickly hide all the bags of cash. We turned around and said never again. My dad lives off of social security and I had won 100$ at bingo and felt blessed to win that so I wanted to help someone else out.

I stopped giving to these groups long ago. Last time I gave money to someone, he came up to me and offered to clean the wheels and windshield of my car. I told him he didn't need to do that, gave him $5, and told him I respected him for trying to earn it and not just begging for a hand out. It brought him to tears and I could see how grateful he was. Some people really do need money. Unfortunately scumbags like these Walmart panhandlers make people weary of giving money.

Anybody can fly a sign on public property to get money it is legal it is not against the law. I was unfortunately homeless for 6 years and had to live in my car and I had to fly a sign and got treated like shit from many people. They lied about me to other people, they spit at me, threw things at me, threatened me, called the cops on me everyday several times a day because I was less than them. They harassed me bullied me and stalked me and I was unable to work because of a medical problem and couldn't work couldn't get disability ran out of unemployment and when I get better so that I could work those same people caused me to get fired from those jobs. So who the Hell on God's Green Earth do you think you are? You have no right to do or say anything about anyone doing this. Maybe they fell on hard times maybe they can't work maybe they lost everything and all they have is a car and a sign to fly to survive day by day. You and everybody else who say negative things or bully harrass and stalk these people are violating every right they have. How would you like it if you where there and people did you that way? You wouldn't survive one damn day out there doing what these people do in order to survive. Leave them alone and worry about yourself and what your gonna tell God when you stand before him to be judged.

And nothing has changed. In 2022 my girl bought about 35 dollars of groceries and a nice insulated cooler bag and gave it to a woman holding one of these same signs.
My girl told me that she had a feeling this woman was legit and her heart went out to her. The woman said she had no car and was staying in a cheap hotel with her kids. The lady looked bummed when my girl handed her groceries.
The next day I dropped a relative off on front of the same grocery store BUT 5 CITIES AWAY ANS HARD TO ACCESS. The same lady was there and didn't want anything to do with us and tried to hide.

A while back I had a long 1on1 talk with a panhandler on the bus. He told me that other panhandlers own “spots” around the town, and for a fee they’ll let you hold it down for a a day or two.
The hotter the spot the larger the fee. He pointed to one intersection and stated that he knew the guy who ran that spot and he’s known to do $200 a day give or take. He told me he worked that spot and made about $160 with the fee being about $20.
When I asked him why he does this, he stated that he enjoyed being able to move freely across the country without being tied down to a job.
I enjoyed our conversation. He was a coo dude. I wouldn’t give him money but it was insightful into the whole thing.

Literally today, as I was leaving Walmart there was a couple sitting by the side of the exit holding a sign saying the same stuff and waving at cars. Both looked clean and well dressed. This act still continues to this day and will continue to happen as long as people keep falling for it. Just don't give them anything. If your conscience feels bad thinking maybe they really do need help... you have to realize that there are MANY ways that they can help themselves. There is no job shortage, they can find a job. If they really need help, they can go to the department of social services. If you really feel like helping the less fortunate, donate your money or your time to local charities that actually do help people in actual need. But please, STOP giving panhandlers money. Don't even give them food honestly because they are not starving and they don't even want it, they just want your money.

If someone just became homeless, they might still have decent clothing, etc., but nowhere to go. People end up there from all different walks of life and for a variety of reasons. One of the first guys I met on the streets years ago when I was doing some supplies distribution wasn't panhandling at the time but had lost his home and family to rulings in a divorce and custody scenario. He was still working but couldn't make the ordered support payments _and_ pay for his own place to live, so he chose to make the payments for his kids no matter what and survive on the streets as long as he had to. It's not common, but knowing the individual / couple's story is important rather than treating the homeless as a monolith. This particular guy I met was probably a more upright person in many respects than others around me who are well-housed, well-fed, and well-traveled.

For some people, the freedom, the lawlessness, the hedonism, and the drugs that the homeless life provides is all they need. Some of these folks don’t have anything to live for. Lots of people simply don’t want to work, they prefer the streets, the fast life, and the quick money that comes with it. I’ve seen interviews with homeless women who sell their bodies in the street and say they’d rather make money upfront by the night to spend the next day than wait on a paycheck every two weeks or at the end of the month. It’s wild, man. As crazy as it sounds… standing in the heat humiliating yourself is preferable to a job for some. Some people just don’t like getting told what do I guess.

I was eating breakfast at a Taco Bell this winter when a man with a scraggly grey beard and unkempt hair, rumpled, dirty clothes, unlaced leather boots, and a Taco bell soda cup entered and asked the cashier if he could get some water, she said yes and he went over and filled up the cup with soda, not water. After getting his soda, he walked back outside and I expected him to resume panhandling at the intersection just outside the parking lot. Instead, he walked to his late model Chevy SUV parked in the Taco Bell parking lot, opened the front passenger door, did some things in the car while standing in the doorway, then walked to the intersection after retrieving his "Homeless" panhandling sign from the car. The lowest I ever got, I was down to renting a room by the week because I could not afford to pay deposits for an apartment. I took a cashier's job at a box store and worked any possible extra hours and overtime that they offered, no exceptions. The room was $52 a week and I generally netted at least $108/week and lived on it. (This was the early 1980's.) Wendy's had a 99-cents salad buffet promotion at the time and that was my main meal each day. I quit driving my very old beater car (bought as a student, with $800 cash from working while at college) except to work, which was maybe 5 miles away. I WALKED everywhere else or just stayed "home" in the rental room and read free library books. Young people today may find it hard to believe that I actually was able to SAVE some money while living like this. So, when I finally got a much higher-paying job with a salary, I was in a good position to transition with some saved expense money on hand.
Another time in life, when I was "low income" once again (the ups and downs of life), I just counter-attacked: I took THREE JOBS; one full-time and two part-time, seven days a week, and worked my way out of it fairly quickly. The biggest help you can do for people is to show them that WORK is their answer. Not government. Not panhandling. Not lottery or some "luck." WORK. Hard work is their answer. If you work 3 jobs, like I have, you will NOT be "homeless" for very long, rest assured!

I asked if she went to social services and she said.."They wouldn't do anything for me!"
So I went to the convenient store at the gas station and got $20 cash back...as I was she said.."Can you please make it $40?".
I said.."Nah..I got kids too to take care of.", and she thanked me and went on her way.
A few minutes later(still at the gas station) , I seen her and her child get in a van with 3-4 other women.
    I got setup!😕
I can't even believe they use CHILDREN to gain a high-level of sympathy from people passing by!

It's a crying shame, these crooks MAKES it extremely difficult for people who are truly in dire straits. One fellow asked me for money, I replied, buddy it's time for you to get a JOB!🤬

One time I went inside of a Carl’s and some lady, looked homeless and maybe into drugs, asked me for money. I wasn’t going to give her money because I assumed that she was probably going to use the money for drugs or something that wasn’t for food. So I go in and order my food and an extra burger for her. I got out and gave her a burger and she said “oh I could have gotten it myself ” something along those lines. When she said that it struck a nerve and irritated me. I really wanted to say “are you going to take it or not?”, but I knew that wasn’t a nice thing to say. I think I said “ here just take it anyway.” The way I saw it was that she was asking for money outside of a fast food chain, so she must be hungry, but I guess not.

Our local news years back did a story on it. They had 2 reporters pan handle. They would then thank the people and give them their $ back record the amount and let them know who they were. The guy made a lot of $$ in one day but the cute girl made 3-4xs as much. lol Many times when they are young they are often serious drug addicts and trying to make it from fix to fix.

I was homeless temporary I realized from the experience that people panhandle they do it cause they know people will give them the money for their drugs and food. The youth you see homeless I talk to and they say that life is way easier than getting a job and paying bills.

It really irks me when people take advantage of people’s kindness. It makes me not want to be kind or giving, because I don’t want to be a sucker. I would give so much more and help so much more if I could trust people, but people like this just completely ruin it for so many people.

    • @axx012
      @axx012 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Trust me, the willing person is not losing much compared to the swindler in these situations. Far more people pass them up than stop to help, so if they want to spend all day doing that then go ahead. A person can be helpful but not to the point of it being a detriment to their own lives. If you are willing to give up the money, regardless of what the person you are giving it to wants or needs it for, then that says you can afford to give it, even if this person is a phony. Basically, it's the thought that counts and you will be Blessed down the road.

Does this make anyone else think of Cher's big hit "Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves"? There's a family of them that hang out in front of Target Menifee on Haun Road on weekday nights now & again. The same woman has approached me 5 times asking me to "Please go buy diapers for my poor babies! We have nothing!". Meanwhile, the first time she asked me, her poor babies were sitting in a fairly new SUV. 2 in the front, 3 in the back seat. The woman was in her mid 50's or so, her oldest "poor baby" looked to be in his late 30's & the youngest girl looked about 22 or so. The 3 men in the car wouldn't look at me but the youngest tried her best to put on a 'sad face' The last 2 times she approached me & I said "no", she grabbed my arm. The last time, she left marks on my arm so I called 911 once I got to my car & gave them a description of her, the car & even the license plate of her SUV. There was a cop car in the center's parking lot roaming around. Imagine my surprise when, after telling 911 the situation for the 5th or 6th time (she didn't seem to understand what I meant by the term 'gypsy" or "I'm disabled & this woman grabbed my arm hard enough to leave marks", I watched the cop car leave the parking lot with the cops laughing. How much of a description do they really need? Did they think they were looking for someone with a scarf on her head, big hoop earrings & carrying a crystal ball?

Good job! I called the menifee on the same gypsy, we’ll know who’s if it’s the same since there are so many. But yes I am familiar with that target in menifee. I called the sheriffs on that gypsy and cops only came and talked to her and asked her to leave. She most likely came back later. I hate them

Hubby and I were dining in downtown Salt Lake City. We gave $20 to a Pan Handler, (young man) strictly as a experiment in Human Behavior. We watched him walk away, started our vehicle and proceeded to follow him. Just as we suspected, he walked into a nearby parking garage, whippped out his cell phone, and ordered his next $20 score. It was worth $20 just to prove to ourselves that we were right!

To be honest I’d work for my money if I was in a situation where I needed money and had no job. In Mexico you have people hustling cleaning windows in mid traffic trying to make a buck. If I urgently was desperate for some change I’d stand at a gas station & fill people’s tanks or clean there windshields. Hey man, there is plenty of ways to come up with money. People need to stop being lazy

True story... on August 21st, I am walking to work (1.5miles) and I get heat exhaustion. I go past a group of men that are drinking in the alley behind a grocery store. I keep walking past them when all the sudden they began to run in my direction. From around the corner comes the police and they are close enough to me that I then get "associated" with those individuals as homeless/ panhandlers. When each of those individuals was asked to empty out their pocket, each one of them had more money in hard cash than I did in both of my accounts put together... and I hold 2 jobs!
