- Blue Tit fledglings in our garden. Never been able to film this before (or since). I was not going to reply to comments about this video but as some people seem to think every thing in nature is only 'one way' and I am in someway a 'bad person' I would like to put them straight.
Just because our two cats were in the garden for some of the time with these chicks you should not assume that they would automatically attack them, the proof is on the video - the cats were far more curious and were on the receiveing end of the chicks beaks and claws on more than one occassion as can be seen.
In fact the brown one kept his distance except for one or two instances, the other cat (sadly no longer with us) was younger and far more interested but she was 'attacked' by the chicks a couple of times, eventually the cats got bored and wander off to 'rest' in another area of the garden. I stayed out as I was fascinated by the way they ate everything their parents brought and slowly lost the fluffy down and eventually flew off safely one by one.
Our neighbours cat would quite happily have taken all four plus mum & dad but he never comes on our garden when our cats are about as he is liable to get a battering, you could say that our cats were like feline security guards in this instance.
I was in the garden all day from before 9am until 5pm by which time all four chicks had flown away quite safely, I shot over 4 hours of video of which you have seen about 12 minutes.
To those who's comments indicate they 'know better' without having the facts to hand, there are plenty of instances where cats and birds happily co-exist together, check google and youtube and you'll see plenty but I guarantee there will be many more you never hear about.
The fact is some animals accept others where you may expect them not to. Do not ass-u-me that all animals who you'd think to be 'enemies' will always revert to type because they don't. There is plenty in this world of ours that can still astound and amaze us when it turns common belief on its' head.
