  • After 5 years of planning and collecting parts we build a gravity tram at the Yankee Boy Mine. Come see it for yourself. exploringabandonedmines.com
This is a fast paced and exciting Mine Exploration Channel. We have been in hundreds of abandoned mines in Canada, United States and Mexico. Recently we have purchased our own abandoned mine the Yankee Boy Mine! We are rehabilitating the mine so the public can explore an abandoned mine for themselves safely. Join us underground and we will show you things no human has seen for decades! A fast paced, exciting channel that will not bore you. Visit our website exploringabando... for directions to our mine, exciting pictures and merch.
For more information on the history of the Yankee Boy Mine go to minfile.gov.bc...
    Visit our mine exploringabando...
Mines are being filled in, demolished, and/or collapsing at an alarming rate, so it is crucial to document them and save these artifacts while it is still possible.
This is all about mining and mining exploration. We have produced over 350 videos for you to enjoy. Join us for our adventures as we go deep underground into historic abandoned hard rock Gold, Silver and Copper mines. We relive the Prospecting, Gold Rush days, going back in history with every expedition. Visiting abandoned and forgotten places, climbing down mine shafts into dangerous mines, finding treasures, seeing antique heavy equipment such as ore carts, crushers, milling machines, ball mills, explosives and other mining equipment.
We have a new website site exploringabando... once there you can see how the mine is doing, support the channel and buy merch, we have stickers, hats, hoodies, t shirts and mugs. New items being added.

hello again! I am 80 years old and have a bit of dementia, and have lost touch with you guys and I’m delighted that at long last TH-cam has decided to reunite us! I have been a subscriber for many years long before Frank met Sharon, but you make a lovely team these days, I love the way that Sharon calls Frank “Franklin“ so cute. Now we’re back together again I will stay in touch and I’ve got so many back videos to watch. Thank you for all the pleasure you give me, cheers from Peter in the UK.

@6:08 It is so refreshing to see Frank's attention to detail on this build. From re-using parts to the Folgers Coffee can to hold screws in. I doubt there is a mine in the world without a Folgers Coffee can in it.

The cable trams also existed in the Norwegian copper mines, and some remnants can still be admired today (Røros). However, these could also be decoupled from the pull rope, which involved a sophisticated technology...the beginnings of today's modern cable car technology...

Well done Sharon and Frank on a job well done. Here we had something similar on the West Coast of the South Island here in New Zealand called the Denniston Incline that was used to bring the coal down from the Denniston mine. I remember back when I actually saw it operating. An incredibal piece of enginnering in extremely challeging terrain.

Suggestions in comments should not be ignored. Tensions and forces in aerial trams can be extreme… and not evident by visual observation.
With all the old trams (and brand new ones) the weight of the station anchors was HUGE! Anchoring to your museum’s foundation… you may lose the museum.
Well, building a tram is a wonderful idea… but it’s not like assembling and old stamp mill or something.
    Good luck.

@@exploringabandonedmines With all the ones laying scattered in ruin you could probably piece one together for at least one battery. If anyone can do it you could do it Frank. I have enjoyed and appreciated everything you have done throughout the years. I'm grateful that you are preserving history. It would be lost if it weren't for restoration and preservation. Who is going to educate our future younger generations? Men and women like yourselves, thank you.

Please do not take what I write as cajoling you; I am not. This is basic engineering and would have been used on trams of the period. I want you to succeed and present a good correct story.
The bearings for the bull wheel are on the wrong side of the beam. They should be in compression instead of tension which will tend to push the bearings into the beam instead of trying to pull the bolts out.
Install a new longer cross beam on the middle tower above the existing one to raise the track cables and install 2 angles of 4 X 4 X 3/8 X 8 inches separated by spacers so the track cable will rest on the connecting bolts and the cable will be above the angles. Locate the angles so the cable is far enough out that the bucket does not hit the tower legs. A piece of pipe, flat bar, or small angle shaped similar to a bow attached to the tower legs will keep the bucket from hitting the legs on each side.
For the top station, add a beam supported by 2 supports in the middle of the "wall" to support the track cables with cable supports like at the tower to raise the track cables for added elevation but now higher than at the bull wheel.
You may need to build a new tower at the bottom station to install pulleys to direct the track cables vertically down to a counterweight box to take the tension of the track cables. These pulleys will need to be in the order of 12 inches or at least whatever the minimum radius the track cables are listed to go around.

    • @exploringabandonedmines

These are all valid comments. But consider this is a short tram with a small load and minimal rise. There is no handbook on tram construction we are figuring it out as we go along!

    • @royreynolds108
      @royreynolds108 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@exploringabandonedmines What I am trying to say is the 2 anchors in the foundation of the museum building are going to fail. The tighter the track cables get to prevent sagging, they will pull against the achors far more than the increase in load on the buckets are increased which then will tighten those cables. It is simple statics, an engineering term. That is why the counterweights on those old trams were so big. One of those anchors is very bent in the video.
