Seen the video about gold mining in Homestake mine. Wonderful, respect all who took to working in such places. Learning this late in life. Wow America was built on the backs of such men.

There probably will be lodes of gold still in that ore but the new mine would have been richer. They were looking for a lot more gold then than what people are happy with this day and age that's why most mines were left or there was a collapse and people were trapped and they deemed the mine too unsafe! 👍❤️💛💚
Smoke's brother !!! Sure glad you're safe ! Who else is going to get this thing cleaned up, so that we can see what these miners were up to ??? , Thank goodness for the mine god's ! 😁☠️

@@exploringabandonedmines Once the mine's cleaned out, maybe rent a LiDAR? You're not trying to find lost ancient cities in a jungle, so a small, backpack sized unit should be pretty cheap to rent and operate inside the mine. My personal advice, if you do decide to do it, speak with the renting outfit to find out what the unit needs to be used, IE tripod, placement etc. And through the mine, install some brackets where you'll just place the unit once obtained to streamline the process and make the costs smaller. For new people, renting equipment money is lost in the time spent learning and setting up the machine, so getting informed and setup in advance is a neat bypass of that. jm2c
Hey frank nice episode. Unfortunatly the more waste rock you take out the more collapse there will be. The muck is holding those old stoppe since god knows when. There is a mine law in quebec that mines have to fill up the stoppe after they mined it out so it holds the back and the bench so you can’t have big collapse in the under level due to a stoppe failing above. I work at 1.3 km underground and the terrain constraint are intense
Yeah, but there's a limit to how much there is up there and he's going to pull most of it out. It's certainly much better than when you're actually mining it. Now he's just moving the stuff through the way it was sealed in. Kinda like those old multiple ball pinball games where you'd get balls stuck on a ledge and to clear them you'd carefully aim for the moving part of the ledge. One would always get stuck there in the mechanism, but it would release all the rest and you'd score big points.
We always back filled old stopes for support. Once it’s removed collapse will become more common. Plus the addition of fresh air on exposed rock surface will cause issues.
Found out they built the haul levels on about a 2% grade so the carts would roll easily, but not too fast. Was going to take my clinometer in there, but don't have to now.
Bound to happen. I'm happy you didn't get injured or stuck. It's like a Isle of Man TT racer said once: "the more seat time you get, the greater the chances of dying on it are". Sidenote: i put it in another comment, but i'm unsure if TH-cam comment notifications even work anymore, i never get them so here's my suggestion again: once the mine's cleanup is complete, and you're confident that you can start the conversion to museum, maybe rent a LiDAR unit to map out the mine in 3D. This isn't a map that needs high precision or amazing detail, so you'll do just fine with a small, low to mid level capacity unit that's cheaper to rent too as a result. From experience, if you decide this is a good idea, speak with the outfit that rents the unit and ask them what method of mounting it has, and my advice is to go around the mine and preset places where you can fix a jig that will hold this device static whilst it's doing its job. That way, the time spent setting it up won't carry to rent costs in time. You just go around the mine, plop it where it needs to be and start it, then switch to the next location. For inexperienced users, these kinds of costs in renting are those that bite the most, if you streamline the process, you'll pay less. IMO, mapping the mine that way is a fast, simple and useful tool. The level of precision provided in this map will also serve you when you'll want to make "furniture" and you'll work less too, because you'll be able to plan the whole setup without having to move heavy items here and there all that much. Jm2c.
Wow, Frank. Hope you have a decent life insurance policy and a will for Sharon’s sake. Super video and I know you’re trying to be safe. Just crazy how much muck was left in that mine.

Hey frank and Sharon just wondering why you don’t run some led lights through out the adit . Amazon has led bendable lighting roles 150 ft each and they go from 120volts to low voltage 12 volts . Think it would really light up the mine
I went down to the 7,000 ft level of a working hard rock gold mine once with a buddy of mine . Once is the operative word , one and done . Not my thing at all . Nothing but respect for you doing what you do . There's nothing on earth that would get me in that tight spot or up that ladder where you went with all that loose . Not saying I'm right and you're wrong just we're way different . Keep safe .
I have been wondering about the muck, I was curious if it was just suff that miners where dumping in old shafts so they didn't have to take it all the way out or if it came from somewhere else.
Too close for comfort Frank , the possibility of getting trapped would definitely be scary especially since you had no digging tools , improperly dressed and no cell service for rescue . Best Friday night entertainment around !
Cats don't have anything on Frank. Cats have nine lives, but Frank has ninety lives. Actually this was quite tame considering what you've done in other episodes. There is no sense in telling you to be careful but then again if I had ninety lives I would live life on the edge also. Have fun you two and enjoy your life to the fullest.
Frank, I was taking to you during the most hairy adventure yet. “Get out, Frank. Stuff on your right looks unstable. Back out now, Frank”. Etcetera. Nearly bent the arms off my recliner.
Hi Frank, you don't need to listen to anybody but yourself. I could tell from your live comments you knew it was super sketchy, but you let curiosity overcome your own safety. Just watching you pull out all that muck makes me wonder how many miners were killed or injured cleaning out rocks from clogged ore chutes? Be safe!

I have been wondering about the muck, I was curious if it was just suff that miners where dumping in old shafts so they didn't have to take it all the way out or if it came from somewhere else.
It came fem the stopes. The quartz was in narrow bands they took that and left everything else behind
Need to be more cautious Frank. Don't be scarring Sharon. Can't show off your mine if you don't come out.
Seems I made a comment being concerned about this very thing a few weeks ago....
Too close for comfort Frank , the possibility of getting trapped would definitely be scary especially since you had no digging tools , improperly dressed and no cell service for rescue . Best Friday night entertainment around !
Sharon would dig me out!
@@exploringabandonedmines
Maybe. 😆
Frank, so glad it worked out for the best
That's why i don't hang out with you anymore. Be Safe Franklin! HI Sharron!!!
Yeah no slackers on our crew. Hi Scott!
Who needs a gym, just be a mine opener !!!
Speak a little louder next time....I didn't hear you!
Be safe!
Is there any air flow through the new stope?
Yes lots of air flow.
👍🍀👌
Frank & Sharron, what gets me is none of the miners, have ever seen the mine the way Sharron and yourself have. frank have you & sharron found any cool artifact you have'nt shown on video. And talking about cool things, When the weather warms up, is there much of a temperature change or is it all the same through out The Yankee Boy Mine
The temperature remains fairly constant year round
Build or buy a 5 stamp mill.
That only crushes the ore. It is still a long ways from Gold bars!
@@exploringabandonedmines I realize that, it would be for the museum! and fun !
create ur own stope
We would need dynamite!
