    I'm about to attempt this with a 4 foot tall super spiky San Pedro. the spikes are 3 inches so I dont think bubble wrap is enough. I have to break the pot it will not come loose.. im scared. 😂 I have a new fantastic pot that I hope will keep it for another couple years. I've never uses support but it sure does sway in the wind so I'm thinking about support. I've had this from seed for 10 years. love the videos thanks for sharing.

    You’re really highlighting how neglected the poor cactuses are at my Mum’s house. They both share a plastic pot that is a little longer but a lot shallower than either of these. They have probably been there at least a decade and the dirt has never been changed. One has grown literally 6 foot tall and it toppled over because the pot couldn’t hold it upright. It has to be leaned against the wall and propped up to even stay upright. And it’s covered in cobwebs. And it shares the pot with another large cactus too.
    We’ve been too chicken to repot them due to the spines but the bubble wrap is a great idea. I just hope I don’t kill them in the process!

    I have that exact cactus. We call him Phil and he is close to 6 ft tall. Is it possible to cut him down without killing him. If so, how and were do we cut?

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A couple of weeks before Spring is the best time to do this. You can cut anywhere as long as it's not too low. Let it dry up or callous over for a couple of weeks, and then plant in moist but not wet soil. When summer comes, it should be rooted and the babies should start showing on the mother plant.

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK

      I wasn't given a name but possible a Saguaro. I was given one cutting and upon planting it in the soil, it produced a baby; while the mother plant it was taken from did not give off a baby. Some can even take years before having offsets.

    Hi. I just repotted a Silver torch that was way too large for it's pot and root bound. After cleaning the roots and letting dry for a few days I just repotted it. The new soil is bone dry. Being that it's October should I hold off on watering for now? Thanks for any info.

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Would have been better if you've waited till spring to repot since they're slowly going into dormancy. I would leave it dry and water it in spring unless you can take it indoors where it's warm and keep it in a place with plenty of sunlight.

    • @tashalousdadful
      @tashalousdadful ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GrowingSucculentswithLizK thanks for responding. Yeah it's my first cactus and it'll be kept indoors. The roots were so matted under the drainage holes after i bought it that I cut the plastic pot it was in with very little damage to the roots. I have a very bright SW facing window it'll be in. The room temp is approx 72° all year long. Should I still hold off watering for a bit or just water sparingly? Thanks again... it's just a gorgeous little cactus and don't want to make anymore mistakes.

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tashalousdadful I know it's a little scary to not water it, but they can handle no watering for a long time. With fresh open wounds from the roots, its best to let them callous off for a while and that would take at least a week. Since you only have a month to go before winter, I would hold off watering. In Springtime, I would give it a good soaking overnight in cactus fertilizer and then water it again when soil is dry or check every 6 weeks; depending on the size of the pot. Rule of thumb is to water heavily(soak) but less often. Wishing you all the very best.

    Love the bubble wrap, but a few questions...
    1) why didnt you remove the wet soild that it came with before potting into your mix?
    2) Do you use your master soil mix with cactus? Or something different?
    3) i really want to make your master soil. Can you please tell me which brand of non-fertilized potting mix you buy from Bunnings? Almost all of them I see in Brisbane Bunnings has some level of slow-release fertilisers in it.
    - thank you!
